Located just 20 minutes to Creede's historic main street with its world-renowned repertory theater, shops, galleries, and dining, 10 minutes to South Fork, home to the Rio Grande Club and Resort, ranked as one of Colorado's top golf courses, and 30 minutes to Wolf Creek Ski Area. Cancellations or changes to stay dates, including changes that result in a shortened stay, are not permitted within 30 days of arrival, and any will result in a penalty. Cancellations or changes made within thirty (30) days of the arrival date forfeit the entire reservation amount. In contrast, cancellations made more than thirty (30) days before your arrival only forfeit the $300 payment made at the time of booking. For reservations that are at least thirty (30) nights, the cancellation policy above increases to sixty (60) days before the arrival date. We do offer travel insurance.

This listing is for the "Master Cabin" it is the cabin to the right of the largest building seen in the main picture of this listing. It literally sits just feet from the banks of the Rio Grande River. Along with all of our cabins it has access to the river and all outside living and recreational areas including picnic areas, outdoor fire pits, hot tub, hammock, tree swing and river swimming hole. The Master Cabin is a 350 square foot Norwegian style hand hewn dovetail log cabin which we built ourselves. All the cabins sit on 8 1/2 secluded acres along the banks of the Rio Grande River, a "Gold Medal River" fishery as designated by the state of Colorado. There are 4 other cabins located on this property; we live in one (the 2-story cabin in the middle) the other 2 cabins are also available on VRBO individually or as a group, the Guest cabin (on the left) VRBO listing #953542 and the Studio VRBO listing # 953410 (it sits behind the cabins in the main picture). All 3 cabins are available to be rented as a group look for VRBO listing #422090.

This Master Cabin includes a queen size bed, leather chairs, full bathroom, gas fireplace, flat screen TV, Wi-Fi, small fridge, coffee and coffee pot. This cabin does not include a kitchen but has an outdoor picnic table with sail shades, gas grill and sits by the main fire pit area which has grill grates and a fire pit wok.

We have inflatable kayaks, a raft and innertubes available for our guests to use free of charge (with waiver and damage deposit) to float in the river on a nice sunny day, 2-night minimum stay required. We will also shuttle guests for float trips when available and prearranged. In winter we also have snowshoes available for our guests to use and get out and explore the area.

Kayaks, rafts, tubes and snowshoes are all seasonal activities.

A stay at the Lost Elk Lodge in the heart of historic Jasper, Colorado, offers a unique, off-grid wilderness experience for young and old alike. From hiking to ATVing, hunting to fishing, wildlife viewing to just kicking back, there's a little something for everyone.

Built on the location of the old Cherokee Trading Post of a bygone era, the Lodge sits on an acre of commercial resort/tourist (CRT) land, with 300 feet of frontage on Forest Service Road 250 and a seasonal creek running next to it. It's powered by solar and propane with a gasoline generator as back-up. An artesian well supplies the cabin with fresh spring water.

The Lodge itself is approximately 1100 square feet with an additional 720 square feet of wood decks complete with outdoor furniture. Inside there are 2 bedrooms with room for cots, 2 bathrooms, and an open-plan living and dining area. The place is fully furnished with everything you would need for a comfortable stay including bedding, towels, and all of the basic dry goods. Satellite internet and WiFi is also available for you to connect with the outside world whenever you so desire.

A short hike from the property takes you in to the Rio Grande National Forest where elk, deer, bear, big horn sheep, coyotes, game birds and countless other game are readily available. The property borders the Cumbres & Toltec Railway with a front porch view of the train during train season! Its a short walk to fishing and hiking in the Rio Grande National Forest. This four-season cabin can be especially enjoyable as a cozy retreat once snow flies and can be accessed by snowmobile, XC skis or snowshoes!

The cabin includes two bedrooms, one bathroom, one living/kitchen area, and two outdoor porches. Sleeps 4. Guests can use the inflatable queen-sized air mattress to sleep an additional 2. Snow sport enthusiasts will appreciate sturdy coat hooks, helmet hooks, and drying rack.

IMPORTANT: During the winter months, parking at the property is not guaranteed. Guests can access the cabin by snowshoes, XC skis, snowmobile, etc.

The cabin is in a remote area out of cell service. Guests may use the cabin Wi-Fi.

To our winter guests: be prepared to park in the public lot off the highway 500 yards from the cabin. Snowshoes/XC skis/snowmobiles are absolutely necessary for winter stays. We try to keep a plowed parking space directly at the cabin, however we don’t guarantee any specific timeframe for plowing. Guests are welcome to park at the cabin if plowed, but please don’t get snowed in! Good neighbor house rules: Pets must be approved and pet fee applies. All pet waste must be disposed of.

Complete in 2021, Max's Cabin is our first site-built cabin/tiny home! This cabin was designed, with our help, by a Pagosa Springs architect to include interesting and rustic features. The footprint is 420 sq. feet, but this tiny home has a 200 sq. ft. standing-height sleeping loft for a total of 620 sq. ft. The tall ceiling makes the cabin feel very spacious!

This cabin is ADA accessible, but every effort was made to make it comfortable and functional for all guests. This cabin has a small kitchen, with an electric cooktop, refrigerator, large sink and eating bar. Outside there is a gorgeous covered patio, which is very private looking up toward Del Norte Peak.

Stay in one of our newly refurbished cabins located in the Rio Grande National Forest, just 4 miles west of Terrace Reservoir in the Alamosa Canyon. 4 individual cabins with 8 built in twin bunk beds and 1 Duplex cabin with 12 built in twin bunk beds. Each cabin is furnished with mattress pads, sheets, blanket, comforter and pillow. There is a bathhouse (includes 4 toilets, 3 sinks and 4 showers), approximately 75 yards from the cabins. The Alamosa River runs through the AIYM Camp property, where the cabins are located. The camp is in a wilderness setting with electricity supplied by a diesel generator that operates from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. No cell service in the canyon but the camp does have a regular phone for special usage and satellite Wi-Fi for $10 per person. The most unique quality is the beauty and cleanliness of the forest. The quiet peaceful atmosphere of the canyon is hard to believe. This is the perfect place for families to unplug, get outside but still have some of the comforts we all enjoy!

Our dog was comfortable and happy, and they provided a pooper scooper so we didn't have to use plastic baggies. My husband and youngest son were able to attend their Sunday church service and said between the view and the sermon there were no words to explain how nice it was. I HIGHLY recommend this property to anyone wanting to get away and see some amazing views!"

Our 600-square foot cabin is the ideal getaway from city-life. Life is slower at the cabin. There is no internet and little cell service. Come to UNPLUG. Puzzles, quiet and nature are commonplace. There is a radio with an AUX cord. Blocks from 300+ acres of National Forest land, 1.4 miles from the Rio Grande and 3 miles north of all South Fork has to offer. The historic mining town of Creede is about 30 minutes away too.

The space
Our cozy cabin is heated exclusively by a small wood stove. Wood will be provided, although likely not needed in the summer months. We do not rent in the winter.
Also our hot water tank is small, so showers are short. :)

Our water is not safe to drink. It is well water, but it sat unused for a couple years before we purchased the cabin. We plan to get it tested soon. Hiking is available alongside nearby Cottonwood Creek, and there is National Forest close by as well as the Liberty Trail which allows you to hike directly to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. The Great Stupa of Dharmakaya is an approximately 30 minute hike away. Property backs to Green Belt, and then Cottonwood Creek, with undeveloped lots on both sides affording plenty of privacy.

THE SPACE:

The light filled kitchenette is stocked with cooking basics: electric kettle, french press, nice sized fridge and freezer, full sized sink, Aquasana water filter, microwave, counter top toaster, single hot plate, salt/pepper, tea/coffee, dishes, flatware, pots/pans, nice sharp knives. (Please do not cut anything on the countertops, use the provided cutting boards)

The full bathroom has a tub and shower, heater, windows for ventilation (no fan). Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap and fluffy towels.

There is one queen bed (organic latex mattress) with comfy cotton bedding, plenty of pillows and a gorgeous view.

This home offers a healthier stay with all-natural, non-toxic products, including eco-friendly dish soap, allergy-free laundry detergent and an organic latex bed, ensuring a cleaner, more mindful environment.

Like most homes in this mountain area, this property does not have air conditioning, although we do provide fans. The 2 electric heaters work well in winter and for cool fall and spring nights.

There is a fold down desk making a perfect spot for remote work or creative projects.

The space is compact, but there is a spot for a yoga mat on the floor.

All windows have linen curtains, and main window in the bedroom has a black out curtain. Due to the absence of city lights and the high elevation of Crestone, the stars are exceptionally bright in the night sky. Crestone is a Dark Sky Community.

The Location:

This home is located in the Baca Grande, just 5 minutes to the Town of Crestone where you will find 3 restaurants, 2 very good small grocery stores, a liquor store, post office, gas station, bank with ATM, hardware store, and a few assorted shops and cafe's.

You may enjoy visiting the nearby spiritual centers, hiking and biking or soaking in one of the three nearby hot springs. Take a drive to see the Sand Dunes National Monument or simply stay put, meditate and enjoy the views.

Guest access
There is parking for one car in the driveway. An additional vehicle can park on the street. A short walk of about 100 feet through the garden takes you to the private entrance of the studio. The terrain is a bit uneven, made of dirt and flagstone, and there are steps. It is not wheelchair accessible.

The studio has a small semi private patio area that extends into the garden and is close to the greenhouse. You may see me or my helpers working in the garden.

Other things to note
*This is a “Granny Unit” located about 100 feet from where you will park. You will need to walk on a dirt and flagstone path to arrive at the studio.

*The studio is located within the garden, about 30 feet from the main house. It has a private entrance, small semi private patio and a privacy fence between the two houses, but we are close. You may see or hear me watering, weeding or harvesting during gardening season (June- October) This also means your space will have fresh flowers when you arrive!

*To support the retreat environment, there is no TV provided, but there is good WIFI

*We cannot allow pets of any kind. There is a cat on the property and much wildlife around.

*The space is only enough for two guests who want to share a bed.

*We ask guests to respect quiet hours after 10 pm both inside and outside. Noise travels and we want to keep our neighbors happy so we can continue to make this space available for guests like you!

*There is not a washer or dryer in the studio. For stays longer than a week we can discuss using the machines in the main house for a small fee. The town of Crestone has a laundromat behind the Crestone Mercantile.

Amenities include: Wi-Fi, central BBG grill, fire pit, shared hot tub, and laundry facility. Grandview is nestled among tall pines away from highway noise and traffic, along the Silver Thread Scenic Byway right in the center of the largest outdoor playground in southern Colorado. Outdoor activities include fishing, hiking, biking, rafting, horse back riding, ATV riding, golfing, skiing, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, ice fishing, and cross country skiing. Gold medal fishing on the Rio Grande river is just a 10 minute walk away. ATV's can access several trails directly from the cabins so they don't have to trailer everywhere. Wolf Creek Ski Area is located just 18 miles away. We offer a walk-in cooler and cleaning station for hunters in the fall.

Check in/check out: The cabin will be unlocked and porch light on so make yourself at home. Guests can also check in at our office. Guests can return keys to the office when they check out or leave them on the table in the cabin and we will take care of everything from there.

Pets: $80.00 pet fee per trip. Maximum of 1 pet per cabin.
Pets are not allowed on furniture or bedding. All pets must be kept on a leash and crated if left unattended. Owners must pick up after their pets. Any damages to cabins or additional pet cleaning is the guests responsibility.

Supplies: Cabin guests may request additional paper products, trash bags, etc in the office. Dirty towels can be exchanged for clean in the office.

Parking: Each cabin is allowed to park one vehicle or OHV. Please park your vehicle or OHV in front of this cabin. Secondary vehicles and trailers should be parked in the storage area near the dog walk. We do have plenty of parking for snowmobile trailers next to the cabins during the winter season.

Off-road Vehicles: Guests are allowed to park Off-road vehicles next to their cabin if room allows. Off-road vehicle trailers must be parked in the storage area unless permission is granted by management. Off-road vehicles must not be left running while at your cabin. No riding in the park is allowed except when entering and leaving the property to access trails.

Trailer Rental: We do offer a 16' trailer to rent to haul your ATV to the trails.

The space
Cabin is located on 37 acres that border the San Antonio River. Property is close to Antonito, where you can eat at the two restaurants, check out the train station, pop over to the oldest church in Colorado, or drive up to the Great Sand Dunes Park. Either way, you will enjoy the quiet, where you will feel like you are remote, but still within quick distance to amenities. Sunsets, stargazing, and wildlife abound. If you are here for a hunting trip, San Antonio Mountain is about 5 miles away.
There's a good chance you'll hear horses, see cows, maybe a few elk or deer, and listen to owls hooting in the dark.

You are free to visit the river and trails, but it is a shared property with two other rentals. The cabin is separated by a tall privacy fence and there is space between the two buildings.
Other than that, there is a garage and storage building that is not accessible to guests.
That's it. Property is fenced to the river, so no danger of wandering onto neighboring properties.

Other things to note
This cabin has a loft bed, with low headroom and a steep staircase. If you have difficulties with maneuvering or are not comfortable with this layout, please consider our other listings, which are more accessible.

Cancellation Policy: A non-refundable payment of $300 is required at the time of booking. Cancellations or changes to stay dates, including changes that result in a shortened stay, are not permitted within 30 days of arrival, and any will result in a penalty. Cancellations or changes made within thirty (30) days of the arrival date forfeit the entire reservation amount. Cancellations made more than thirty (30) days before your arrival only lose the $300 payment made at the time of booking. For reservations that are at least thirty (30) nights, the cancellation policy above increases to sixty (60) days before the arrival date. We do offer travel insurance.
