I didn’t get the code for the cabin and the welcome info text until well after 4:30pm, and my sister and young family arrived first at 3:45pm and had to sit outside until we received the welcome text and code. There are also public parks in the area as well as golf courses, wineries, breweries, theaters, shopping, and the Four Winds Casino in Dowagiac. This cute cottage gave our family the opportunity to spend time together, relax, and have some fun before the wedding day on Sunday. House was clean, in great condition, and was stocked with everything you might need from dishes, cooking items, bedding, kayaks, paddle boards, bug spray, sunscreen, and more! The lake is beautiful and so quiet! No motorized boats on the lake was fabulous! It was so peaceful! We saw some of the other lakes and we’re so happy we were on this one! Unwind at this fun family-friendly cabin in the Glenn Shores beach community. The house was lovingly renovated in 2021 including a brand new bathroom, kitchen, and outdoor shower. Located equidistant from downtown South Haven and Saugatuck, offering families a wealth of local attractions to explore. Nestled on over an acre of secluded property, this cabin is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy all that Southwest Michigan has to offer.

About the house:
The house has two main structures - the main house and then a bonus bunk house (bedroom #2 pictured) which is about 15 yards away from the main house. The bunk house is only available seasonally (May - Sept).

Bunk House (Bedroom #2 pictured):
The bunk house is a large space with a queen size bed, living area with a pull out couch (sheets and extra pillows available in the closet of the main house bedroom), large desk facing the woods, and its own deck. The bunk house is a perfect private space for a couple or for kids to stay and feel like they have their own space. The bunk house is only available seasonally (May - Sept) as it is not winterized.

Main House:
The main house has the primary bedroom with a queen sized bed, a full kitchen, a full bathroom, a living room, dining area, wood burning fireplace, screened in porch, and large deck off the back. Details about each space below.

Kitchen:
The kitchen is newly renovated and fully stocked with a retro refrigerator, full size electric range oven, farm house sink, and dish washer. All cooking utensils and spices you may need are provided as well as dish ware, pots and pans, microwave, and a Keurig coffee maker (Coffee and Tea K-cups provided).

Dining area:
The dining area is just off the kitchen and includes a large built in bench and table that can seat six. It is a perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee.

Bathroom:
The bathroom is newly renovated with a large glass shower, new vanity, and washer dryer. It is fully stocked with hair dryer, towels, toilet paper, and dove soap. Guests will need to bring their own toiletries (shampoo/conditioner).

Wood burning fireplace:
The main house has a huge wood burning fireplace that is not functional at this time. We kindly ask that guests refrain from using it.

Screened in porch:
The main house has a front screened in porch that seasonally includes a small bistro table and a sitting area perfect for enjoying morning coffee or an evening meal.

Bar area:
The main house includes a small entryway/bar area which includes a cocktail shaker, wine opener, wine glasses, and copper mugs.

Outdoor shower:
There is an outdoor shower off the bathroom of the main house. This is a great spot for washing off after a trip to the beach.

The yard:
The houses sit on just over an acre of property which backs into what used to be an old golf course where there is a ton of wildlife (deer, turkey, an occasional fox) that can be seen trotting through. There are two decks on the property--one off the main house and one off the bunk house. The main house deck includes an outdoor seating area (available seasonally) and a gas grill. There is a fire pit and chairs in the back yard. Guests can help themselves to the firewood that is piled in the yard. A lighter can be found in the long drawer in the kitchen. There are a few yard games available for guests to use. These games can be found in the bin off the back deck.

Beach access: (seasonally)
The Glenn Shores community has a water lookout point that is about a 5-7 minute walk from the house. This is a great spot to go watch the sunsets. The stairs to the water have been removed due to high water levels. The beach is an additional 5 minute walk from the lookout point. A community map is available in the guestbook. To drive down to the beach (4 min drive) you'll need to bring the key to unlock the beach gate. In the summer months, the key can be found attached to a small shovel on top of the microwave. The beach has picnic tables and a sandy area. It is a smaller beach due to higher water levels but usually guests can find a spot. Note, there are no lifeguards on duty.

Water toys:
During the summer months, guests can access beach towels, floaties, life vests, and beach chairs. Beach towels can be found in the main house bathroom. All other items can be found in a large bin off the back deck.

Parking:
The house has ample parking in front of the house (3+ cars). Guests can pull in next to the shed. Please do not pull in all the way to the house as the well is located there.

Both the main house and the bunk house have keypad entry. The codes to each house will be provided via text before your stay. These codes are updated after each stay.

- "Small but clean what I needed for the week!" - "The property was everything we needed and more. The communication with the property managers was efficient and timely, the house was adorable, reliable, and quiet. We were staying out of town for a wedding and the rental provided everything we needed with the bonus of being near the water. Afforfable and definitely worth it. Highly recommend and definitely would go back again!" - "It was a nice area but not quite as close as we'd hoped to St Joseph and other attractions. I'd like to give it a better rating but it was very dirty in some areas and definitely needed some repairs and updating. Accessing the house during any and all hours is simple thanks to our keypad entry on site. So don't sweat that late night arrival!

To get to the house, you’ll turn off of Red Arrow Hwy and head down a steep gravel road called Willow Road that takes you back into our long wooded lot.

We recommend keeping your Prius at home if you're visiting us in the winter. The steep road down to our home can occasionally be a challenge in the snowy months, but typically an SUV can conquer it.

Please note that property is secluded but not far from a major interstate. So road noise can be heard. Most people never notice. Some love it, some don’t. There are sound machines in each bedroom just in case.

There is an open staircase with no handrails that can be very dangerous for babies/toddlers. Please keep them close if you do decide to visit.

- "Clean, comfortable cottage with everything you need for a short stay. We just used the cottage for overflow sleeping and it was perfect." - "Adorable!! Cute town, nice people, great accommodations. The only downside was that we were unaware the property was pet-friendly and there was a LOT of dog hair in the cottage, in the corners, all over the fabric sofa in living room and even woven into the bed sheets (not just the bedspread, but the actual sheets) we had to wash the linens before use, but no big deal, we love animals, we just weren't expecting the animal hair to be left behind. All in all though, phenomenal property & great communication w/prop mgr, we would go back and highly recommend others give it a go!!"

- "We absolutely loved it" - "I needed some time away from life, a patch of quiet ground and some solitude to really get re-grounded and recharged. I found it here. The host gave a friendly wave as I drove back to my little cottage. She was available as needed but left me to my own peace and quiet given that my stay went off without a hitch. The inside of the cottage is cozy and charming. Since the night was going to be a cold one and I haven’t been camping in years, I wondered if I would end up wishing for a hotel. What I found is that having a space heater and a thick pile of warm blankets to keep the cold away was infinitely better for deep sleep than a furnace. All the essentials for a starter fire were provided, plus everything you’d need to stylishly rough it for a spell. The best part of it all for me were the two tiki torches on either side of the front door. They provided light for a surprising number of hours. As I lay in bed and took a leisurely time falling asleep, I would glance up at the door and see the orange glow from the lamps flickering through the curtains. They almost seemed to get brighter the later it got. On the way out, I took a snapshot of the old blue bus that’s parked near the road, and felt a little wave of emotion go through me. I have found inspiration for my life in both the book and movie versions of Into the Wild, and this bus could almost be the other’s twin (in spirit at least). I hope to come back and bring my wife some day. It’s a wonderful little escape. "

- "The property was great, and very clean. We were given clear instructions on where the house was located on the street, and where to avoid parking. The location was good from Three Oaks and downtown New Buffalo, and we were able to get an Uber. Overall, we enjoyed our stay! " - "Loved the space " - "Decor was cute. Kitchen very nice! My only negative would be that the room we rented had no closet or hooks for dresses and nice shirts. Plenty of spots for hooks to be installed or add a rod to the entry closet. We didn’t have access to the back bedrooms or the bedroom closets. Also the a/c window unit is just ok. To be fair, we stayed on an incredibly hot humid extreme heat warning weather and the a/c window unit could not keep up. Fans were available but it was a stuffy 2 nights. Had the weather not been extreme, I’m sure the unit would be fine. Check in smooth and communication great. Backyard tree is very cool, we spent the evening architecting an amazing treehouse!!! Had really nice meals and did wine tasting in the area. "

- "Fun time with four of our grands…ages 9, 6, 4 &4. Kids slept on pull out couches & chairs. Loved the fire pit, a little pickle ball & short ride to South Beach. Kids Corner was a big hit. A few issues but manager was quickly responsive. Would like to go back with grown kids along too!" - "We stayed here with our 2 dogs, and it was very lovely. The amenities were great, and our dogs loved all the open space on the property to run around, take walks, and play. The location is as described and in close distance to South Haven and all its attractions. One thing I will note is that if you are taller (5’8 or above), be aware that the space can get a bit cramped. The bathroom was not pictured on the listing, and we found a very small and short shower that was difficult to maneuver. The kitchen is also much tighter than we anticipated from the pictures. There were also a few spots in the flooring where it seemed to be caving in (there was even a crack in one spot from people walking in the hole so much). Overall, it was a great stay, and I’m sure we will be back someday!"

- "Everything was wonderful about the cottage. The only drawback is the lack of lake access. The public waterway is narrow and between two close houses. We didn’t feel comfortable using it. Otherwise it was very clean and nice. It is close to Roadside Beach on Lake Michigan so that was a bonus!" - "My family rented this home, and my sister’s family rented affiliate homes across the street. The space was fully renovated winter of 2022 with the Scandi-Rustic mentality of creating a warm and cozy atmosphere to be enjoyed with friends & family. While updated and modernized, the cottage maintains its rustic 1920s beachside character. Utilizing natural materials and vintage finds, the space has a relaxed, airy vibe. There are two bedrooms - one queen and the other with a full-size bed. The beds are super comfortable with premium mattresses, crisp cotton sheets, organic cotton duvets and vintage finds. The front porch has two additional twin daybeds - the porch does not have heat or a/c but with the windows open there is a good cross breeze and there is a box fan stored for use if desired .The kitchen is equipped with a four-burner stove, oven, full size fridge/freezer, farmhouse sink, coffee maker, dishwasher, and all the essentials (plus some extras) to prepare and enjoy a home-cooked meal. This cottage comes with a private pergola covered with mature grape vines. The outdoor dining table sits six and there also is a gas grill. The front yard has 2 Adirondacks to relax in. Nearly everything contained in these cabins has been handmade on site. From the knotty pine paneling throughout, to the queen headboards, to the buffet, and the shoeracks (several cabins also have our handmade farmhouse tables/benches), we have placed our best foot forward in showing our guests true Southwest Michigan hospitality. The 6 cabins are located on our 50 acre property just 5 minutes from downtown South Haven. The adjoining Kal-Haven Trail also offers a scenic ride into the downtown!

The space
Each cabin has three queen beds and one queen sofa sleeper. They also have their own private handmade picnic table, handmade charcoal grill, and fire ring. In the center of the six cabins is a large community fire pit for larger groups or a gathering place to meet new friends!
There are no bathrooms in any of the cabins; however, just a short walk away is our beautiful bathhouse which contains all of the space everyone might need a men's and women's restroom, 4 lockable showers, and 1 fully accessible ADA compliant restroom/shower. Throughout the property we have utilized thousands of feet of locally harvested, sawn, and kiln-dried hickory/red oak from our Amish neighbors. This is readily apparent in the bathhouse and many fixtures that you will come across during your stay!

Guests may access any part of the 50 acre property aside from the manager's home and the privately rented duplex (also on Airbnb). There are 20 acres of woods, a stream, and plenty of walking paths throughout the property. You will love watching the sunrises, the sunsets, and stargazing each time you visit--there aren't many places like this!

Other things to note
One common question that we get is "Do you rent bicycles?" The answer is yes, we have a great partnership with Rock n' Road, the local bike shop. Their rentals are reasonably priced and will drop off/pick up for free. They have many sizes of bikes as well as supplemental equipment that you and your guests require. Simply let us know ahead of time and they will be waiting by the door!

The space
The Wonder Woods of the Sister Lakes "Glamping Cabin" #3 provides the perfect balance of camping and comfort! The cabin consists of one large space (~300 sq ft). The sleeping arrangements include a full-sized bed, a bunk bed with two twin beds, and a sleeping pad in the loft area. There is electricity, a ceiling fan, and an air conditioner. In the kitchen space, there is a coffee bar, microwave, and refrigerator. Outside, there is a gas grill with grilling utensils as well as a picnic table and fire pit. The recently remodeled shower house and restrooms (no water in the cabin) are just a few steps from the front of the cabin. There are plenty of things to do for fun, both in the game barn as well as in the area!

LAKE FUN - We have nine kayaks available for rent. You can rent them for either 1/2 a day or a whole day. We have (2) 10' sit-in kayaks, (5) 8' sit-in kayaks, and (2) sit-on kid kayaks. We recommend booking your kayak rentals well in advance! Just give us a call.

Other things to note
The "Glamping Cabins" do not have running water in the cabins. Beautiful, clean, private restrooms and showers are just a few steps from the front door of the cabin.

Giant trees welcome you down the drive back to the cabin in the woods. The cabin, along with my house and a small cottage reside on the 2 1/2 acre property. A contemporary cabin of steel and pine with vaulted ceiling and sky lights. Open living space, inviting queen size bed, luxury rain shower, full kitchen but no stove. A wood burning fireplace- fall through end of March and outside fire pit. Public beach a 5 minute drive away. Couples check out the cabin for anniversaries & special days.

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. This 500 square foot cabin is conveniently located off 1-94 Exit 22, it seems like a world away from the hustle and bustle, yet close to everything. Built in the 1930's or 1940's I have kept the wonderful original woodwork, but updated the cottage with a new bathroom and a complete kitchen. Steps away from the Michigan State Park of Grande Mere known for its miles of trails through the woods, dunes, inland lakes, and access to Lake Michigan.

Welcome to Sister Lake Cottages!

Sister Lake Cottages are 7 cozy cottages located in Dowagiac, Michigan, and are perfect for water lovers! This listing is for unit 2. Big Crooked Lake and Little Crooked Lake are within 1 mile from the cottage and they are both all-sports lakes. They are nearly the same size - Little Crooked is 103 acres, Big Crooked 110 - their shape and the lay of the land leave Big Crooked with nearly twice as much shoreline.

Not only is this home conveniently located to tourist attractions but great restaurants as well. Take an evening stroll to the Sisters Lakes Brewing company of 14 microbrews produced by the owner's family or the Strand Brewery & Grill. Other dining and shopping are in Dowagiac and nearby towns. There are also public parks in the area as well as golf courses, wineries, breweries, theaters, shopping, and the Four Winds Casino in Dowagiac. The resort town of St. Joseph on Lake Michigan is only 20 minutes away. Looking for a little adventure outside of water sports. Check out the snowmobile trail that runs between Sister Lakes and Grand Rapids and a biking trail that runs between Sister Lakes and the airport in Dowagiac. The surrounding countryside is part of the Michigan fruit belt, with wineries and apple, strawberry, peach, and cherry farms with roadside stands or you-pick excursions.

The entire Sister Lake Cottage 2 is for your private use with an easy self-check-in process to accommodate various arrival times. There is a private entrance with your own access code that will function between your check-in and check-out times. Come back after a great day of exploring and enjoy access to a kitchen with a stovetop, toaster oven, microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker as well as dishes and utensils. Sleeps 4 comfortably. Enjoy relaxing by the waterfront or bring some kayaks or water toys and enjoy full access to the lake. Guests will find the space to be warm, comfortable, and inviting and the hosts to be responsive and diligent to provide an excellent stay for each guest. Here for a quick visit, enjoy resting in this budget-friendly option with all the needed amenities for a shorter or lengthier stay.  This cottage also features a Gigabit Fiber-Optic Internet connection.

If you would like to use the grill during your stay please bring a fire starter and charcoal. Also please bring your own wood for the fire pit.

Upon entering the first floor, you will find a full-service kitchen (sink, refrigerator, stove and large table with seating), bathroom (sink, toilet and roomy shower) and cozy sitting room that sports a queen sofa sleeper, rug, two swivel barrel accent chairs, an ottoman, two lamps and two end tables. At night, this cozy sitting room transforms into a private bedroom where you can pull out the queen sofa sleeper, close the door, and enjoy a good night's sleep. The second floor has one private bedroom with two full beds. Across the way from this private bedroom is an open loft with one queen bed and a twin bed. Want to pitch a tent for the kids outside? Go right ahead. There is plenty of room. Outside, you will also find a gas grill and picnic table. The space
Completely remodeled in 2020. Named after our favorite hotel in Switzerland, Huusli is Swiss-German for "little house." As Chicago residents we always looked for a small getaway with charming features, modern amenities and a strong design vibe, but couldn't find something that was within our price range. So we decided to buy the perfect couple's retreat of our dreams, completely remodel it, and share it with you.

The cabin was built in 1951 so please note that the walls are thin and not insulated, and even with the bedroom doors closed you can hear other people from nearly every room. This is why we promote it as a cabin for a couple. Of course you can certainly invite another couple to join, or your friends, but just note the sound issue.

Unfortunately, it's not not set up for toddlers or young children due to the narrow staircase.

We currently do not allow pets.

No keys to lose or to return! This property provides secure, keyless entry with a Yale Smart Lock. A personal entry code issued to you for the duration of your stay.

You will have full access to the cabin and decks. Beach access is 3 blocks away at “Stop 41.5” (map provided in listing photos and in house binder).

Other things to note
The cabin was built in 1951 so the staircase is narrow and the individual steps are "short." Please keep this in mind as both bedrooms are upstairs, bathroom is downstairs, and you will also be bringing your luggage up and down.

As mentioned before, walls are thin and noise carries.
