- "Really nice spot and activities on site. Cottage was a little underwhelming but comfortable enough. No tv in cabin but wifi worked well. Really nice view and dock is just a few meters from cabin." - "It was absolutely gorgeous and so fun the owner was very friendly cottages whete so beautiful scenery was breathtaking not many mosquitos i woild definitely go again" - "These cottages are wonderful, beautiful and peaceful. Perfect for a weekend get away from the city. I read the reviews and I don’t know how people can complain about no TV when your surrounded by such beauty, also only having 2 toilet rolls, this is a family run business not a chain hotel with unlimited supplies. Our only complaints are the stranded boat on the beach - it’s not safe for small children or dogs and just doesn’t look nice, there was also a stray nail on the deck I have to move. Also the main road is very close to the cottages so quite noisy and not great if you want to let your dog or children run free. Lastly, there was no warning about wild animals at night, they ate our food outside and if people leave their dog outside to sleep that wouldn’t be good at all ! "

Explore an Off-Grid Waterfront Yurt Getaway on 11 Private Acres!
Cabin
Huntsville, Ontario, Canada

If you are seeking restitution away from the pressures of everyday living, enjoy "glamping" without the fuss. Our lakefront yurt & cabin is sure to re-connect you back to nature and explore the ultimate Algonquin experience.

This “wonderfully, amazing, peaceful & secluded natural oasis” is in the heart of one of Ontario's top tourist areas, just minutes away from internationally renowned Algonquin Provincial Park & Arrowhead Provincial Park & precisely 12 minutes from Muskoka's cultured town of Huntsville. We provide a complimentary day pass to both local provincial parks :)

Pets with up-to-date vet shots are welcome at no extra charge :)

The thought of sitting around a campfire under a clear sky, gazing up at the stars and listening to the sounds of the night can pacify your minds and rejuvenate your soul!

During late Spring, Summer and Fall the adjacent cabin compliments the yurt in giving you an additional screened-in porch overlooking the dock. They are both located within meters of each other and you will be assured full privacy on the 11 acres of private property.

Each booking comes complete with a full supply of wood for both the firepit and the woodstove.

Check out this website pictures of our unique outdoor washroom which our guests fondly call " Muskoka's finest privy" It even features art work! OUR LATEST UPGRADE: Seasonally, Spring into Fall, we provide a propane heated outdoor shower!

Our guests are impressed with the vast 85 acre spring fed lake and waterfall just a few meters from the yurt. The lake is virtually undeveloped surrounded with crown land and private ownership with only one other small cottage on the entire lake.

When you arrive to this 100% Canadian made yurt /cabin will be clean & setup with basic pots and pans to cook on either the propane bbq c/w side burner or wood stove.

For a perfect night's sleep, we provide a cozy deluxe queen size bed. Guests would only need to bring their own personal queen size sheet set (or sleeping bag), pillows, blankets, and towels.

This off grid package also includes: unique outdoor privy, open fire pit, private dock, waterfall, stream, Muskoka chairs, ample selection of games & reading material (for quieter moments), and a solar power pack to operate small appliances such as your cells..

Seasonally, we supply a complimentary canoe from Spring into early Fall and 2 pairs of high-tech snowshoes during the snow months. NEW: We've now added two kayaks to explore Benson Lake - guests would need to bring their own lifejackets.

You can safely dive off the T shaped dock (c/w canoe). Its 40 ft in length with a recently added 8 ft x16 ft. pontoon deck section. The dock is conveniently located only 300 ft away from the Yurt and only 40 ft. from the cabin.

During the cooler seasons, you will be kept snuggly warm even during the coldest of wintery nights inside Yurt's wool lined interior and our new high-functioning wood stove. Its large 17' diameter and 4' skylight makes it the perfect size for a couples getaway!

Yurts have developed into great popularity over the past decade, where campers/cottagers can experience a high end upgrade to traditional camping without the work, lately referenced as “glamping”. The sounds of nature is purely therapeutic : )

Muskoka is just a 2 1/4 hour drive north of Toronto. We are located just minutes from historical Huntsville and 30 minutes from the gateway to Algonquin Park, right in the heart of Muskoka District with its vast 2500 square miles of stunning pine and maple forests, 1600 lakes, waterfalls, cliffs and breathtaking scenery!

Here are just a few of our many 5 star REVIEWS!

Feb 17th
GREAT time of the grid! We came here for peace, relaxation, and the great outdoors. This property met those requirements and more. The yurt was well-equipped, cozy (thanks to the woodstove) and secluded enough that you felt away from everything, yet because it was only a short hike and 10 minute drive into town it was still convenient for us to get around and explore Huntsville. Thank you to our wonderful hosts Doug and Orla, we will definitely be back and recommend it to others! All the best, Lauren

We had a wonderful time. The winter experience was truly a memorable one. It's definitely something that we can cross off our list now. We took advantage of the Arrowhead pass and explored the park. We particularly enjoyed skating through the forest. Meeting Doug and Orla was a complete pleasure as well. They were so sweet and welcoming, it made the experience more special.
We were pleased with the two nights and the urge of accomplishing something new was satisfied. Doug was generous enough to extend the third night to the next time we visit at which we were pleasantly surprised by. On our way home Emily and I discussed coming back. Hopefully in October to take advantage of the leaves changing.Thank you for everything and look forward to booking more adventures with you, Carla

Hi Doug and Orla: Stephanie and I had an absolutely amazing time at the yurt. We could not have imagined a better location and trip over all. As far as feedback I can honestly say I would not change a single thing. From the very first contact to the moment we drove away was perfect. Meeting Doug to show us the place was very nice and of course the property speaks for itself. We have many pictures and memories that will last a lifetime. Over the next few weeks we are going to plan a time to visit again, this time in the warmer days of summer and hope to make this a yearly trip. Thanks again for everything. All the best, Randy and Stephanie

Thanks so much Susan for arranging our visit - we had a great time!! We had a great visit - despite a day of rain - and want to return for sure. Thanks, Krista

Guest Reviews:

- "Clean, quiet and relaxing" - "Very large and private wooded area to get away and relax. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay." - "What a beautiful spot to stay at. The sound of the waterfall, the trees, the sunsets, the quietness, the sounds of frogs and birds, the loons, all is unmatched. We can’t say enough good things about this spot. You will not be disappointed. If you stay here, you must try the outdoor shower. That was the best feeling, especially after a swim in the lake. Thank you Doug and Orla, for sharing this beauty with others. Sincerely Courtney and Ian"

- "Beautiful and quiet property. Host had impeccable attention to detail and space was clean and welcoming. They answered any questions we had and we look forward to returning in the summer time. " - "We very much enjoyed an impromptu weekend escape to this adorable little cabin. If we had wanted to cook more there was everything we needed. But we ate out and Bracebridge is nice and close. There was nothing we felt was missing. The weather wasn’t great so we ended up exploring up to Huntsville too. The cabin was immaculately clean. We would definitely stay again. Maybe next time the weather will cooperate and we can have a fire. The only recommendation I have is that more detail be included in the listing. If I had been planning a longer stay or was concerned about some amenities being available I might have passed the listing over. It was all available, but not all listed on the listing that I could see."

Guest Reviews:

- "Really had a wonderful time staying 2 nites, and visited the lake many times, spent the majority of our time down there. Took the canoe out each day, wonderful quiet and private lake, and never saw anyone else on it. ATV trails close by, but did not disrupt or trip. The cabin had a lot of really sweet touches, making it a step up (and more comfortable) that basic camping. Would love to visit again in another season!!" - "Overall we had a great stay! The area is beautiful and the cabin in surrounded by trees. The site is fairly big and it was very clean. The lake access is shared with the other cabin, but there are two docks set up so it would be easy to share the space. It was so quiet and peaceful, I definitely recommend staying here! Some important things to note: you have to carry your stuff from the car through a trail in the woods to get to the cabin. We didn't realize this and we arrived after dark which made it difficult, but we managed. Also due to being in a forest, the mosquitoes were the worst I've ever experienced. Bug spray alone did not help us. So I definitely recommend bringing additional bug repellent products if you stay here."

- "Super cute cabin with lots of thoughtful little touches done by the host. Would definitely recommend!" - "This was perfect." - "My wife, two dogs and I stayed in this tranquil cabin in Katrine for a week in July. It was our first time staying in an energy efficient eco cabin and it was a really good experience. The cabin is really well kept, you can tell that the owners have pride in this cabin. It was clean, it had everything you needed, it was beautifully decorated, quaint, cute, and warm and inviting. The surrounding area is peaceful, we walked down to the lake almost every day which was a nice walk, particularly early in the morning. We also explored the area from Burks Falls down to Huntsville which was easy to do in Katrine. The weather was very hot during our stay, with the fans, some windows, and some cold drinks we managed well. Even the dogs, we had our two Shelties with us, and they had a fantastic vacation as well. I would stay here again."

- "A cozy cottage with a well-stocked kitchen, spotless bedsheets and towels, and an inviting outdoor area. We couldn't make use of the patio furniture due to the weather, but did enjoy the view and the sounds of the rushing water. The large covered porch came in very handy as we could still sit outside and use the barbeque while it rained. We appreciated having chopped wood on hand for the stove, and also the Ontario Parks permit. We did manage to go hiking in Arrowhead one of the days. Thank you for a wonderful Canada Day weekend!"

This particular cabin was small but perfect for the 2 of us it doesn't have a full kitchen but we brought a slow cooker along just incase and it was perfect! The good thing about this cabin is your right at the end so your firepit is in the back and it alittle more private! We will definitely go back."

Guest Reviews:

- "Beautiful cabin!" - "It was clean and well organize. After years I played table tennis, volley ball, went kayaking. The BBQ was a joy to do!" - "Here's the revised version without the first sentence: --- **"A Lovely Location but Communication and Amenities Could Be Improved"** The overall experience had potential. However, we were disappointed with some aspects of our stay. The listing gave the impression of a private cabin, but it was actually part of a resort with shared amenities, including a BBQ, which we were not informed about in advance. The cabin could benefit from some maintenance, as we had issues with broken lights and a faulty shower tap. Additionally, basic supplies like a cleaning sponge were missing. The communication throughout our stay was also lacking. We reached out to the personnel regarding canoe and boat rentals, but unfortunately, we did not receive a response. Considering the conditions and the value offered, we felt the price could be more reasonable. Overall, it was a good base for exploring the area, but there is room for improvement in terms of communication and maintenance."

Muskoka Lake Cottages

Guest Reviews:

- "The property and cottage were well maintained and overall we enjoyed our stay. The ad stated that there would be an additional charge for pets without a value. Upon reaching out it was not clarified and ended up being $75 per dog on arrival. It would be appreciated if that was communicated prior. Our initial greetings with the host were rushed and there were errors with the wifi connection effecting our payment. The host persisted that I must use another form of payment while standing outside getting eaten by mosquitoes when my card information was already processed earlier for the reservation. I think that this encounter could have been handled more professionally."

- "We had a peaceful and memorable stay at this cozy cabin. The natural setting was beautiful and our older child loved the outdoor space and stargazing. The cabin was clean, well-stocked, and the host was kind and responsive. That said, for families with babies or toddlers, it’s good to know there’s no AC (it got quite warm during our 30 C stay) and the indoor staircase is steep, which may require extra care with young kids.Overall, it’s a lovely spot to unplug and enjoy nature — we’re grateful for the experience!"

Please read ALL of the details to ensure this is the right fit for you! If you are unsure...I am HAPPY to answer any of your questions.

Garbage and Recycling
Our landfill site is VERY strict when it comes to recyclables being mixed with garbage. They require us to use clear garbage bags. We provide these at each location. If you need clear garbage bags please let us know. If you put recyclables in your garbage bag we have to sort through your garbage to separate them. Please help us by recycling all paper, glass, cans and plastic (even plastic bags are recycled). The bins are located near Cabin #8. See the camp map in the profile photos.

Composting
Near the communal kitchen we have a compost heap. Please only add fruit/vegetable scraps, coffee grounds and eggshells. No meat please.

Drinking-Water
We have a spring-fed well that is treated and tested every day. The water from every tap in the camp is drinkable. Please DO NOT bring bottled water. Also, there is a nearby spring to fill up your water bottles. From the camp turn right onto Highway 520. Take your first left (Horner Rd). Drive until you see a black pipe coming from the ground. Here you will find ice-cold spring water.

WIFI
We have 8 cabins spread across 20 acres and have considered making wifi available at each location. However, after much consultation with our guests they have almost always requested no wifi access in their cabins so it is easier to stay disconnected to truly enjoy their stay. At the communal kitchen you will find reliable wifi (but slow) which is no more than a 3-minute walk from your cabin. There is a cellular tower nearby so reception is perfect.

Other things to note
Below are a few of our favorite FREE local sites.
1. Thompson Rapids (20 minute drive) – named after the inspiration for the Group of Seven Artist, Tom Thompson. This scene is straight out of a Muskoka magazine or Group of Seven canvas. There is a grassy area to spread out a picnic blanket, a picnic table and an outhouse. Bring your camera because the views are spectacular. There is a small trail near the parking area which takes you to the best views.

2. Knoepfli (pronounced can-niff-o-lee) Rapids (10 minute drive) – these rapids are more intense than Thompson Rapids but there is a nice swimming spot at the very end. Bring a picnic lunch and a good book and lose yourself in the serenity of the rushing water.

3. Distress River Paddle (10 minute paddle from your cabin to the mouth of the river) – don’t let the name fool you. We think it should be called De-stress River. This meandering river takes you away from the open water for as far as your heart desires. If you are quiet you are almost guaranteed to see some wildlife – mallard or merganser ducks, the great blue heron, dozens of birds and maybe even a busy beaver or thirsty deer. Once in the early morning fog, a moose swam beside our canoe! There are also a plethora of wild water plants including a rare pink river orchid!

4. The Magnetawan Park and Dam Trail (3 minute drive, 30 minute walk or 40 minute paddle) – this park has it all! Tall shady trees, soft sandy beach, swimming docks and rafts, a covered pavilion, a playground equipment for the kids, and outdoor workout equipment for the adults. Follow the path to one of the few remaining hand-operated lock systems in Canada. Cross over the whole dam and there is a nice trail around a small island. Stroll it and check out the many variety of trees or jog a few laps for a fantastic trail run.

5. The Spring (2 minute drive, 20 minute walk) – this ain’t no “Himalayan Spring Water” sucked from the local municipal tap. This is the real deal. Ice cold, crystal clear spring water filtered by Mother Nature herself. Don’t forget your water bottle!

6. Screaming Heads (15 minute drive) – let's just say you would not want to be lost here at night on Halloween! Peter Camani is a local artist who has transformed his rolling hillside property into a work of art. Large concrete ghostly shapes emerge from the ground surrounding a medieval home complete with a two-headed dragon as a chimney. Stroll around lush ponds and organic gardens to capture some memorable snapshots. Bring your camera, some bug spray and an open mind.

7. Sundridge Park & Scenic Lookout (20 minute drive) – this is a must for families with young children! Nestled on the shores of Lake Bernard, Sundrige park has everything to keep the little ones entertained outdoors. A rockin' splash pad, huge jungle gym, covered pavilions and best of all the lake is knee-deep and sand bottom for at least 100 meters. This is also a great spot to have a game of knee-deep football with your friends. When you are all tuckered out jump back in the car for a short drive to a stunning lookout point high on the rocky cliffs of Lake Bernard.

8. Sunset Drift (1 minute from your dock) – one of our favorite things to do at the end of a beautiful day is to drift in a canoe or kayak, turn to the historic lighthouse and watch the sun set into the lake! Living the dream.

9. Echo Rock (3 hour round trip paddle) – this trip is not for the faint of heart, but the views are worth all of the effort! The paddle southeast up the lake will take you past grandiose cottages and tiny islands. Once there you can have a picnic lunch and swim on a miniature island facing the massive granite wall named Echo Rock (a-hem, this is where we were engaged). Paddle in front of the rock and shout out your dreams. TRAVEL THE WOR WOR wor wor wor world!

10. Local Trails and Walks – A.The Cornelia Levering Trail meanders through the forest surrounding the small local 9-hole golf course. Hunt for wild edible mushrooms and golf balls gone astray. The start of this trail is a short 5 minute drive from your cabin.        B.The Burk’s Falls Heritage walk takes you across an old covered bridge and down an easy walking trail ending at the fairground in the back of Burk’s Falls. The start of this trail is a 15-minute drive from your cabin.        C.The Group of Seven Mural Walk – this is not a trail but it is quite the adventure to find all 33 massive murals copied from Group of Seven masterpieces. During the artist scavenger hunt, stop off at one of the many shops in the bustling town of Huntsville. The start of this walk is a 45-minute drive from your cabin.

11. WE FOUND A NEW GEM!  We call it Old Man’s Creek Trail.  This is a BEAUTIFUL 1km trail.  Just a few meters in, the trail splits right and left.  Go to the right and you will be surprised by a beautiful waterfall perfect for taking pictures.  Be sure to swing back and take the left route as the entire trail is breathtaking.  Another bonus, chances are you will be the only one on the trail!  From the camp head into Magnetawan.  Turn left at the stop sign and head straight out of town for around 8km.  You will see The Cornball Store on your right-hand side where you can stop and get homemade baked goods or ice cream.  Continue past the Cornball store then turn right onto Ahmic Lake Road.  Continue on this road until you see a bridge.  Park on the shoulder RIGHT after the bridge.  You will see the entrance to the trail.
