- "Lovely and quaint cabin. Perfectly located in a very peaceful and quiet street, steps to the park and lake. The cabin itself was quite small but perfectly fine for a lakeside getaway. BBQ on the back deck saved cooking inside ( although stove, toaster, coffee pot, microwave were available... along with pots/pans and dishes). Lovely firepit with Muskoka chairs surrounding and bonus firewood supplied. A couple of comfy swing seats around the property to relax on. Property owner was very pleasant and helpful. It's not "fancy" ... but a lovely place for a very reasonable price."

Feel good knowing that you’re choosing a low-carbon, eco-friendly getaway. As an off-grid cabin, energy conservation is key. DRIVE IN ACCESS

FAQs
What makes this location awesome?
This Cabinscape is located on Kirkfield Lake, a body of water sustained by 3 underground fresh water springs. This gorgeous lake is clean and crystal clear with a blueness seldom seen anywhere in Ontario.
This geologically unique property (the site of a former limestone quarry) offers ample opportunities to connect with nature. Snowshoe, hike or run the trails on-site that meander through forests and wildflower meadows. Swim, paddleboard, snorkel or get out and cycle the roads and rail trails in the area.
Our property is adjacent to the Trent Severn Waterway system which connects to several larger lakes in the Kawartha Lakes region, making it an excellent basecamp for day-long expeditions on the water.
How far apart are the cabins?
Each cabin is approximately 150 meters away from its neighbouring cabin(s). Our cabins have been strategically placed to provide as much privacy as possible, however, you will likely hear others out and about on the lake and property. Sites are big, beautiful and protected, neighboring guests are not permitted on your private site.
When is check-in and check-out?
Entry is by lock-box and key. Check in time is 3 pm. Check-out is 11 am.
What if I need assistance during my stay?
We are always a phone call or text away for any questions or assistance. Our on-call property manager lives nearby and can be available on-site when needed.
What should I bring?
Your own food & drink
Your own towels, sheets, pillows, pillow cases and blankets
Firewood
Bug repellent
Hand sanitizer
Does this cabin have running water or a shower?
Our water is pumped from the lake. Running water is shut off when temperatures dip below freezing. This normally happens mid-October but can vary each year. When running water is shut off, we provide 40L of water for dish washing and drinking. All taps (including shower taps) are turned off. Water is turned back on before the May Long Weekend.
**Please note that running water will be shut off on October 15th.**
Can I bring additional guests?
This cabin can accommodate up to 3 guests. The base rental rate includes 2 guests. A third guest is an additional $25/per night.
Is there WIFI/Cell Service?
There is NO WIFI access at this cabin. There is reliable cell reception. However, access to data is slow and spotty. Don’t plan on having a Zoom meeting here.
What electronics can I use at the cabin?
There is one outlet in the kitchen for charging your phone and laptop but charging multiple phones / laptops will drain the cabin’s battery quickly. We DO NOT recommend using the outlet for high voltage items like hairdryers, coffee makers, kitchen appliances, etc. This is a low voltage outlet and power outages will result. Health-related items like CPAP machines cannot be accommodated at our cabins. Feel free to message us for clarification on what machines/electronics can be used at our cabins.
Are there bugs or critters?!
You bet. Depending on the season, you’ll encounter bugs of all sorts. Bugs, rodents and wildlife are a reality of the wilderness. Guests should come prepared with bug spray and proper protective attire. Ticks have also been a major issue across Ontario. Please do your research ahead of time and learn how to properly check yourself for ticks.
While we do our best to protect our cabins from pesky critters by having them seasonally sprayed, critters can sometimes find their way into the cabin. That’s why it’s important to keep your food sealed and stored. If you’re squeamish around bugs or critters, you may want to consider another kind of getaway.
Why are children under 6 not recommended here?
This location may pose several safety hazards for young children, including steep cliff faces without barriers, rocky pathways, and deep water. Unfortunately, this can be a dangerous site for young children. Parents must take full responsibility for their little ones at all times when outdoors at this site.
Is this cabin pup friendly?
In order to keep noise levels to a minimum and to consider all our guests on-site, we only allow pups at a few sites on this property. If you are looking to bring your pup, check out our Bluebell Cabin.
Is the paddleboard available to use year round?
No. In an effort to ensure safe paddling practices at our cabins, we only offer our paddleboards when the water is at safe temperature (especially important in the event of an unexpected fall). When it is safe to paddle, typically between mid-April and early-November, this cabin comes with a complimentary rental paddleboard, a paddle, and two adult PFDs for our guests to enjoy during their stay.
**Please note that the paddleboard will be put away on November 1st, marking the end of the paddling season until May **

This pristine lake is home to 5 lakeside cabins and 6 canvas tents, each on its own big, beautiful and secluded lot – with dreamy desert-like vistas. Later this spring, we are launching a handful of canvas rental tents, as well as a large communal shore dock, to take advantage of this truly epic location. More cabins will be added to the meadows and forested grounds in autumn 2022, and a sheltered lakeside pavilion will be added in 2023 for meals and gatherings.
All lakeside cabins are identical in design and come with their own fire pit, paddle board, BBQ, picnic table, two Muskoka chairs, and a private dock at the water’s edge. Paddleboards are swapped out for two complimentary adult-sized pairs of snowshoes in the winter months.

Equipped with kayaks + paddleboat. Fully equipped kitchen + shed with games/activities for adults + kids. Air conditioning. No large boats due to small lake. Public boat launch 20 min away.

The space
Pets:
- The cottage is pet friendly. Our dogs love it up there as there’s lots of room in the backyard for them to play and the water is a shallow entry point.
- Please note we do not have a fence there and we kindly ask for guests to please keep their dogs off the neighbour’s property as they are sensitive to people/dogs on their lot.
Air Conditioning:
- We have central air conditioning located by the front door. We keep it on during the summer so guests can enjoy. Please let us know if you’d like to adjust the temperature.
Quiet Hours:
- Sebright has “quiet hours” from 11PM to 8AM. Please no parties on the property.
Designated Workspace:
- All cottage lamps (including on desks and on bedside tables are touch-lamps. To turn them on, touch the base of the lamp to get light).
Living Room:
- Guide for how to use smart TV is in grey box under the white stand

- BBQ tools are provided in pull out drawer in the island
- Propane is provided near the BBQ.
Campfire:
- Wood can be purchased at the General Store ~2 drive min away
- Campfire sticks are available to guests and are by the back door (near TV)
Laundry:
- If the child lock is put on the washer, it will not let you open the door after finishing washing. To unlock it, simply hold “extra rinse” and “pre wash” to open the door
- To avoid the child lock error, ensure the wash is fully completed and says “end”

- Mariposa Market (lattes and baked goods) ~25 min away
Guest access
Guests have the entire property to themselves for their stay.
Other things to note
*Please do not use the neighbour’s backyard / lot*
- The lake is a soft bottom (grass all the way to the lake) and great for swimming / non-motorized water sports
- In the spring and early summer the grass close to the water does get quite wet (might be good to wear water shoes or rubber boots if worried about the texture) when going all the way to the lake
- We kindly ask that guests not use the motor boat that is currently on the property (fishing boat), however, kayaks, stand up inflatable paddle board (located in shed) are free to use.
- There is NO official boat launch on the property. The lake is very small and any boats owned by guest that are desired to be used on the water will need to be carried down (please no driving your car on the lawn). The cottage is within driving distance to larger lakes (such as Simcoe & Couchiching if fishing and public boat launch amenities are desired)

Cottage, Bunkie and wood-fired Sauna Cabin- rustic, private, unspoiled landscapes, off the grid- the original cottage experience. On the historic Burnt River with a waterfall view, perfect for relaxing or paddling. Soak in the views of High Falls out your window or fall asleep to sounds of falling water. After your sauna, swim off the rock to the swim raft, or float downriver on your paddleboard. Enjoy screened porch conversations, or roast marshmallows at the firepit. 2.5 hrs from Toronto
The space
Main cottage hosts the kitchen, living room, screened porch, 3 decks, bathroom, 2 bedrooms. The adjacent bunkie and wood-fired sauna cabin add more sleeping capacity. Remember to bring your own towels and bedding (blankets provided) The cottage electricity is generated by solar, and stove, refrigerator, and hot water are propane.
The bunkie has a small private deck to enjoy river views, along with 2 bedrooms (Double + 2 bunks). Great space for kids to hang out.
The main cottage is traditionally wood-finished in pine and birch, with a cozy wood burning fireplace, and 2 bedrooms (Queen + 2 bunks). The solid pine kitchen is outfitted with dishes, pots, and a large pantry unit to store your supplies. Small appliances are limited due to electricity consumption. Make your coffee by pouring boiling water over the pour over carafe. Toast is made via an old fashioned grille on the stove top burner. Hand mixer is available. Our trusty vintage "Danby Diplomat" range is not much to look at, but it works quite well, with even oven temperature and super hot stove top burners. The propane refrigerator works very well.
No wifi or TV, and good cell reception. There are books, games, comfortable seating, and a retro dining table. A funky feature is the jazz piano "Burnt River Boogie Band" - it may not be in tune, but it's iconic. The lazy boy couch has 2 recliners built in. A glider rocker and reclining leather chair complete the seating area. The stone clad fireplace insert provides wonderful heat for those chilly mornings or evenings. Firewood is provided.
Outside there is a picnic table for alfesco dining, and an exterior firepit for enjoying long summer evenings. Lots of exterior deck spaces to relax in, with lounge chairs and a view to the river. If the mosquitoes are too much, then take to the screened porch. Rockers, swings and Hudsons Bay patterned fleece throws will keep you cozy.
The sauna cabin has 2 rooms - the cedar lined sauna with woodfired wet sauna stove, and a front changing area with 2 extra bunkbeds. Fire up the stove, and you'll have a sauna experience in an hour! The sauna cabin is not wired for electricity - but there are battery powered lights supplied. Remember to bring your own towels and bedding.
A few steps down to the river leads you to a gravel beach, and a rocky point for swimming or canoe launching- or just gazing at the falls from the red Muskoka Chairs. This is somewhat rugged and not suitable for persons with physical challenges. The river bottom is rocky and uneven - water shoes are a good idea. A swimming raft is anchored offshore. NO diving is allowed from either rocky point or raft. One canoe and two paddleboards are provided for your use, but you must bring your own personal flotation devices. The Burnt River levels tend to be stable in the summer unless it rains quite a bit - then you may see rising water levels. There are river currents - so paddling downstream is easy but remember you have to get back ! Always be confident of your own abilities to negotiate river turns, water levels, currents and the "unexpected" before heading out.
Guest access
Access is provided to all areas-waterfront, main cottage, bunkie and sauna cabin.
Woodlands around the cottage are private land - so those trails are not public. Walking our private road is fun ! Local trails include the Kawartha Rail Trail- 5 minutes away - and others in the Kinmount/Minden/ Haliburton areas.
The waterfront is the place to launch the canoe or paddleboards that are provided. You are also free to bring your own. Enjoy a leisurely near-wilderness paddle down river to the next set of falls (about 1 hour downriver) Or paddle across to the portage trail at the falls and go upstream to Kinmount.
Kinmount is 15 minutes away and has a grocery store, LCBO, small cafe's and a laundromat.
MInden, Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls and Haliburton are all within 30-45 min drive and offer lots of attractions and shopping.
Other things to note
We have a roadside trail-cam which will notify us of your arrival - please do not change or remove this.
Remember to bring your own towels and bedding (blankets supplied)
Bring your own fishing gear, watercraft (non motorized) and PFD's.
Not suitable for persons with physical challenges.
