Unique clean log cabin on private 5 acre spring fed lake. Very quiet and private. Boating, fishing, hiking. 80 acres of forests and meadow to hike and explore. All modern amenities, large modern bathroom. Guest cabin for kids. There is only one cabin on lake. Canoe and kayak at dock. Large 1899 cast iron cauldron for safe pit fires. Free firewood supplied. Fantastic swimming right at cabin.
- "The hosts are friendly and made us feel welcomed. The cabin was very cozy, the area was very quiet. The perfect getaway for the weekend. Hope to rent it again." - "Beautiful, well maintained property, very clean spacious cabin. Highly recommend and would come back again in a heart beat." - "The cabin is tucked away deep down the driveway, nestled right by the lake. Incredibly scenic, private and tons of land to hike and explore. There are trails all over the place (bring your mosquito gear). The lake itself was crystal clear, clean, perfect for swimming (and Im not much of a swimmer). The dock was excellent for lounging and wating the sunsets and stars. Fishing looked amazing, i can say the local osprey was enjoying it! The grounds were well kept, grassy and wide. The firepit is an exceptional cauldron and definitely a highlight. It keeps very warm, but you might need taller chairs to view in to it. The cabin itself is cute and cozy. All the very basics are at your fingertips. Just remember to bring what you need just incase its not there. The wood is warm, the place is clean. The main bedroom is great. Leave the one curtain open so you can wake up to the mist/fog over the water. Main cabin has 1 bedroom, and living room has space for an air mattress if needed. The bunkie is great and has 2 (single?) beds in it. No power yet, but for sleeping its A-OK. 10/10 recommended. We will very happily be back! Thank you for an excellent long weekend!"

- "The cabin had great views, everything provided to enjoy a lovely stay. Bathrooms were clean and spotless, very good value for the money. We really enjoyed our vacation!" - "Beautiful property, lovely sunsets! Cottage was new, clean, and comfortable. Property was as described, and we had a great time!" - "This property is perfect to relax and unwind. Very quiet and excellent communication with the owner" - "Cottage is small but clean and has most of what you would need. A couple minor things that could be better, the central washrooms are recently renovated but the showers did not have warm water during our stay. In addition, the unit lacks a screen door on the sliding patio door. It is not entirely clear in the listing but the actual cottage does not have any running water. Neighbouring cottages are very close as well. A nice place for a couple of days but would not want to stay too long. Closer to camping than to a cottage, but overall for what it is it’s not bad. "

Set back on a quiet road on over half an acre, Hindman House, just 20 minutes north of Owen Sound, invites you to relax and recharge in any season. The house is a cherished historic gem fully-equipped with all the amenities for 21st century comfort and function.
A fully-equipped, chef-approved kitchen, comfortable seating areas for relaxing with a book or Netflix, beautiful rural surroundings inviting you out on the porch or for a walk. Close to the Bruce Trail & Sauble Beach and an hour's drive to Tobermory.
THE SPACE
Rustic on the outside, charming and welcoming on the inside is the best description of this place.
The house can easily accommodate 4 adults, and with the use of the comfortable memory foam sofa bed, up to 6. The efficient and fully equipped kitchen has island seating and an adjoining conversation area. The living/dining room, with windows on three sides, has a comfortable sectional, reading chairs, a TV with streaming services, a Bluray player and assorted games and puzzles. The dining table seats 8.
The stairway opens into the 'loft' master bedroom, which has a California king bed and a curtain that can be pulled for privacy. The second bedroom is equipped with a queen bed and a futon that opens into a double bed. Both bedrooms have hutches and dressers for unpacking and good bedside lamps for night-time reading sessions. Each bedroom also has a well-equipped desk for remote work.
The west-facing rustic front porch has Muskoka chairs and a dining set for breakfast or lunch al fresco. A new south-side entrance and 3-season sunroom is a nice spot to read on a rainy day or catch some early spring sun. A patio door opens onto the back deck with comfortable seating, a propane BBQ, a dining table and chiminea for evenings under the stars.
Bird-feeders at both the front and the back of the house draw chickadees, goldfinches, nuthatches, woodpeckers, bluejays and more. During migration season a wide variety of birds can be seen. Sandhill cranes are frequent visitors in nearby fields and often fly over, sounding their distinctive bugle. (It's a special treat to see hundreds of sandhill cranes gather in the late fall in preparation for migration.)
ABOUT US
Ray and Heather bought this property in 2016 as an unexpected retirement project. The house was built circa 1868 and was owned by the Hindman family for over 65 years. Ray's grandparents, Robert and Pearl Hindman, raised their six children (the middle child, Norma, was Ray's mom) in this house so we just couldn't resist bringing this amazing treasure back into the family. We rent to allow us to continue to improve the property so we very much appreciate your visit.
While we are currently not living locally, we're available throughout your stay by phone or email as your first point of contact. We have a network of family and friends we can call on should something arise that requires hands-on help.
THE AREA
The house is rural and is surrounded by farm fields, with grazing cattle in the spring, summer and fall. The neighbourhood is very quiet and a haven for birds and animals all year round. Georgian Bluffs township is heavily forested, providing habitat and movement corridors for wildlife. Black bears, sandhill cranes and eagles have begun moving back into the area in the last number of years.
Two access points to the Bruce Trail with parking are within a 5 minute drive of the house, The Glen on Grey Road 17 and the Lindenwood access. We've had numerous guests stay who are walking the Sydenham section of the Bruce Trail and have found our place to be well situated. In addition to the Bruce Trail, the area has numerous conservation areas with public access operated by the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority, including Jones Falls, Inglis Falls and Indian Falls. The AllTrails app is an excellent source of information and rates trails by difficulty. If you love the outdoors, we truly have something for everyone.
We are minutes from the long sandy beach and spectacular sunsets at Sauble Beach, Bluewater Park on Colpoy's Bay in Wiarton and the crystal clear waters and stoney shores of Georgian Bay. Water, water everywhere. A local outfitter rents canoes and kayaks.
Local potters and other artisans abound in the area. The Owen Sound Artists' Co-op is a great place to find out who is where. The Saturday morning Farmer's Market in Owen Sound operates year-round and the huge Keady market runs on Tuesdays from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving. Excellent local restaurants, brew pubs and wineries will keep you well-fed. Choose your shopping experience: Big box stores and a reviving downtown? Owen Sound; A quaint main street minutes from Colpoy's Bay? Wiarton; A beach town vibe? Sauble Beach. The house is about a 20 minute drive from each town.
And then there's the Bruce Peninsula, part of the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve . We're about an hour from Tobermory and the Bruce Peninsula National Park, which includes the famous Grotto. We are also 40 minutes from Cape Croker Park, which is owned and operated by the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, offering "Anishinaabe Cultural Experiences ... [including] guided hikes, art, storytelling, hands-on learning and traditional plants." There truly is so much to discover "on The Bruce" you couldn't fit it all into one visit.
- "Hindman House is an incredible find! Whisper quiet. Peaceful and calming. The wood logs of the cabin, the updates to the kitchen and bathroom... it's all lovely. The kitchen is stellar, fully equipped, well stocked, a pleasure to cook in. Take your morning coffee out on to the front porch and you'll want to stay there all morning, with hummingbirds in the bush beside you, more birds at the feeders, and cheeky chipmunks coming up on the porch to panhandle. And, it's close to hiking, cycling, water on both sides of the peninsula, and restaurants in Owen Sound and Southampton if that's your thing. We highly recommend it. Enjoy!"

- "Beautiful view, nice and helpful staff!" - "We had a group of 8 and stayed in a cabin that sleeps 8. It was small but the outdoor space made up for it. We camp often as a group and by far these were the nicest, cleanest common bathrooms we’ve experienced. Newly renovated and easily accessible. I wouldn’t recommend the lake to swim in because the kids had leeches on them when they got out. However we did rent a boat and did some fishing. The sunset is directly infront of the cabins and was absolutely stunning. The staff was amazing. We love Bruce. They were very helpful and attentive and have everything you need. They even helped me pump a flat tire. I would recommend this property."

- "Had an oustanding time here. The cabin was very cute and clean. Perfect for 2 people. It was very quiet, as well as many things to go do day trips in the surrounding areas. The cabin was maybe 20 ft from the water, so watching the sun set wad incredible. Which also made it very romantic to watch while you have a camp fire. Looking forward to going back again." - "I was nervous to leave a review as it will not be very flattering. 😬 we were excited to spend a weekend here, we are easy going and don’t mind roughing it. We brought our 14’ bass boat, this body of water may or may not support such a boat but it was very weedy. We wouldn’t even chance launching the boat at their launch. We went to oliphant instead (was very nice) when we returned we were all ready to just enjoy the tranquility of the area but little did we know there was going to be a very, very loud “party” at the main house (right behind our cabin) until well after 11pm. We had to play our own music to help camouflage theirs. It was very “unique” music. Time for bed-oh good luck with that! The “security” light shining in our bedroom window all night (no blinds only rattan rolling blind that blocked out nothing.) and the mattress cover was so noisy (not removable) every time you move it was so loud now I know how toddlers feel. Also be aware there is no running water. This is mentioned in the ad that there can’t be grey water but I thought there’d be some sort of faucet with a system for it but that’s on me. It’s a very tight space and the cabins are very close to each other. The owner seemed nice enough but it didn’t make the stay any better. Also because we had our boat we parked in the little parking area and someone parked in our spot and no one asked or mentioned it to us so we had to squeeze by this strangers car to get through to go use the bathrooms. The bathrooms are ok, but the shower curtains were see through but they did fix that as soon as someone mentioned it (not us, we didn’t shower there) I didn’t want to leave this review but VRBO asked me three times and I notice no one had reviewed it so here it is. Not worth the money we spent on it."

- "Our family stayed here only two days. Cabins are basic but fit the needs. Getting water to the cabin was different, but doable. The host is very responsive to all needs and the manager on-site is also very accommodating and pleasant. Did not have a chance to take a boat or kayak on Sky Lake, but caught a couple pike off the dock, so it seems to be a good fishing lake!" - "good"

And the bonus is that Rita is amazing and really helpful. Why not try forest bathing. Simply taking a walk in the surrounding forest. Forest bathing is a trend which emerged in Japan that has made its way to North America. Studies in Japan have shown that "the scents of trees, the sounds of brooks and the feel of sunshine through forest leaves can have a calming effect" which reduces stress and makes people feel at ease. It can also strengthen the immune system. Kimberley Creek Cabin is the ideal spot to experience "forest therapy". You will be glad you stayed!
- "Cozy A-frame nestled in the woods, this place surpassed our expectations. The property is tucked back from the main road, and while the owner’s house is visible close by, the trees and the sound of the creek give excellent privacy. The house felt spacious for two of us and was very well equipped. We did not use the upper level but it’s adorable though definitely not suitable for anyone with mobility concerns (*very* steep stairs to access). "

- "The cottage was my better than we expected. The owners answered all our questions quickly. No issues at all. To say the place was perfect is an under statement. 5 stars are not enough. Loved it would love to go back and spend more time. I can't say enough how fantastic our stay was. The bed was super comfy. They provide shampoo and conditioner and body wash all great too. Honestly just awesome 😎👍" - "This pet-friendly cottage was as advertised and the check in process was a breeze. Very clean, the cottage was also equipped with all the conveniences of home as well as a few luxuries (like games, a turntable and coffee bar) and some welcoming treats. The sunsets were stunning while having a paddle or sitting by the fire. Our dogs likewise enjoyed exploring and hanging out by the water. The hosts were super friendly, responsive and accommodating. Highly recommend a stay if the features meet your requirements. "

Forest bathing, simply taking a walk in the forest, is a recent trend which emerged in Japan that has made its way to North America.
