Pennan is a gorgeous little seaside village made famous from the eighties film - Local Hero where a business man falls for the charm and the pace of life the village has to offer. This is still true today, you will feel yourself relax as you wind down the steep road towards the village with breath-taking views of the sea in front of you. The Stables is set on a working farm in Lumsden between the towns of nearby Alford and Huntly.
The cottage which is all set on one level comprises of 1 double bedroom and 1 bedroom that has a zip and link king size bed that can be converted to 2 singles. Each room has its own en-suite shower. Through the hallway you enter the open plan kitchen, lounge/dining room and here you can relax and look out onto the views of the stunning countryside. The property is double glazed with a wood burning stove and under floor heating with all the rooms having their own thermostats so you can set the temperature just how you like it. There is a patio area with a small lawn just outside the Lounge where you can sit out, relax, and enjoy the fields of animals and wildlife on the farm and the views of the surrounding hills.

Please note Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement but must not be left in the cottage on their own during your stay and be kept on a lead at all times when outside the property due to the proximity of our livestock. Please note there is no enclosed area adjoining the cottage.

The cottage very comfortably sleeps four in two bedrooms: both with Super King sized beds (one of which can be made into twin beds if required so please let us know at time of booking. Unfortunately we cannot do this on the arrival day or thereafter). There's lots of room for your clothes as both bedrooms have a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables. There's also a hairdryer in each bedroom. There is a z-bed which is suitable for a young child (up to age 6 only) but please note this will reduce floor space considerably in the second bedroom.

The cottage has a step free ensuite shower room in the end bedroom and there is a bathroom which has a shower over the bath next to the second bedroom.

You have privacy to enjoy the exclusive cottage garden as well as the summer house overlooking the large pond. Outside on the patio there's a table with 4 chairs and bbq, 2 loungers, a wooden bench with outside toys stored in the seat as well as a couple of Adirondack chairs and a wooden picnic table by the firepit - and if you're bringing bikes we have plenty of dry secure storage for them next to the cottage in the outhouses. Please note: in the Winter months the garden furniture, loungers & bbq will be stored in the outhouse.

Linen, towels, electricity and wifi are all INCLUDED in the price and the recent installation of an environmentally friendly biomass boiler means this detached cottage is wonderfully warm 24/7. We will also pop in a small starter pack of food items.

Garden Cottage is just a couple of miles from the small villages of New Pitsligo, Cumminestown and Strichen with small local food stores. Turriff is 8 miles away and this is where the larger supermarkets such as Tesco, Costcutter and The CoOp are. There are several superb local bakeries including Murdoch Allan and Yamba Rose, restaurants including The Rustic Grill for fantastic brunch, lunch and evening meals, takeaways, hairdressers, doctors, a dentist and many local independent shops are all located in Turriff.

If you plan on eating out while in the area you've lots of choice in Turriff and Banff but also the lovely little cafes and pubs in nearby Pennan, MacDuff, Portsoy, Fordyce, Gardenstown, Whitehills and Cullen.

We are very Pet Friendly, and welcome two well behaved dogs, but you MUST let us know at time of booking if any pets are accompanying you. Also, we do our very best to keep your costs down by not charging a pet fee, or ask for an additional pet cleaning deposit, and in return we ask that you respect our house request to keep dogs within the kitchen/living area only.

This is a private family farmhouse surrounding by fields and rolling hills, which means nicely secluded. There are 4 double bedrooms but only 3 double bedrooms available as one is kept locked as owner storage. The entire house is bookable. Bedrooms are not en-suite. Upstairs is a private cloakroom toilet, a separate large family bathroom (bath, shower, basin and toilet), downstairs a large family bathroom (shower, bath, hand basin and toilet). The house is maintained to a high standard. Central heating, x 3 functioning wood burning fires, electric induction cooker and electric oven, open plan kitchen and lounge area, 3 downstairs reception rooms (office, TV lounge, dining room). All reception rooms available for guests. The nearest landmark to the property is the Glendronach Distillery (10 min walk or 4 min drive). When you book, we will provide detailed directions and a location pin and there are plenty of tourism information leaflets available for you at the house. Full use of the property, with a few private areas are locked away, this does not affect you still having full access to the main house and all facilities. 4 reception rooms, three double bedrooms, two large bathrooms (both with baths, showers and toilets). Guests have full use of the kitchen and dining room but must ensure house rules for the kitchen is applied. This is a home from home experience and guests are to be able to feel relaxed and just blend in and be comfortable:
- You will need to fend for yourselves, as you do in your own home. There will be plenty of cupboard space in the kitchen, there is a freestanding tall fridge, a separate freestanding freezer. A fully equipped kitchen. Any breakages will be re-claimed from the holding deposit.
- You are fully responsible for your own catering arrangements. Fully equipped kitchen provides you with the ability to cook as if you were in your own home.
Bring slippers as we have slate kitchen floor and many areas not carpeted.. We recycle and details for this is provided in the house guidelines, for you to comply with. We are an eco-friendly property.

Other things to note
This is a very quiet and rural location, which means secluded, with excellent walks so bring walking boots, mountain bike, fishing equipment (some of the best Trout fishing in Scotland). If you want an urban or semi-urban stay, this will not be the property for you. The Scottish weather is extremely changeable going from stormy weather into bright clear sunshine in a matter of hours. Pack layers and bring a warm outdoor jacket, hat (beanie),Use of a vehicle is essential as public transport is not available to the property. We have private off-road parking in the driveway area. We are a 10/15 minute walk from Glendronach Distillery, 4 min drive, you can arrange a Whisky tour directly with them on their website (highly recommended). Nearest shops 20 mins in nearby small towns of Huntly (Tesco or Asda) or Turriff (Tesco) (easy access with a Map App) and we are only 30 mins from the Moray coast.
Load up your Map App info whilst you are on Wi-Fi, then once you leave the house it will be live on your phone. If you wait to do this outside of Wi-Fi access, Map Apps will not work for you.
If you are travelling from abroad, always remember to switch off your data roaming! When you arrive at the International Airport, enquiry for a local sim card (our network is Vodaphone), but check with them the data service in the area of AB54

The Bothy is situated on a 3 acre site, adjacent to the owners property at Little Beggshill. There is a secure Dog Paddock which guests are welcome to use free, along with our own small area of woods.

The Castle Trail and Malt Whisky Trail are on our doorstep and the coast just a 35 minute drive away, there is something for everyone.

The space
Originally a farm worker's cottage, Beggshill Bothy was completely renovated in 2006 to create a compact modern cosy retreat, ideal for a relaxing holiday in a peaceful rural location, yet only 2 miles from a main road.
Multiple dogs are welcome at no extra cost, and use of the Dog Paddock is included for our guests.

Other things to note
A car is essential at Beggshill Bothy. The nearest amenities are 10 minutes drive away.

The Bothy doesn not have a secure garden - dogs must be kept on lead in all outdoor areas other than the dog paddock. This is to ensure everyone's safety; we have 4 dogs including 2 reactive sighthounds who are kept on lead.

Whilst we accept winter bookings please be conscious of our location! There are approximately 2 miles of single track roads to negotiate, which are rarely gritted. Our driveway is also fairly steep. If you have a 4x4 you will be ok unless its extreme - the farmer does come along with the snow plough!!! Winter tyres are a big help. We will always advise on weather conditions when it is looking bad.

A traditional fisherman's cottage tastefully restored and nestled in the seaside town of St Comb, first laid out in 1784.

The cottage has a south facing garden and is located only one house away from the stunning golden sands of the St Combs beach stretching in both directions. You can see seals from here and sometimes if you are lucky killer whales.

This dog friendly property welcomes guests into a beautiful holiday home, sympathetically restored with contemporary touches and set over two floors. Explore the fishing port of Fraserburgh, less than a ten-minute drive which is filled with fantastic amenities including most well known supermarkets, shops, pubs and eateries.

Attractions include The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses and Fraserburgh Heritage Centre next door. Our old fishing boat the ‘Gowanhill’ now donated to the attraction used to reside in our garden. The first lighthouse built by the Northern Lighthouse Board in 1787 is also located here on top of a castle! This is also the start of The Formartine and Buchan Way one of Scotland’s Great Trails, an impressive safe pathway suitable for all abilities of walkers, cyclist and horse-riders. It is entirely off road and relatively flat, however it passes through such varied and interesting landscapes that are constantly changing.

Fraserburgh Golf Club is the 5th oldest club in Scotland and the 7th oldest in the World. ‘Fraserburgh Golf Club’ is oldest golf club in the World still operating under its original name.

Other great are attractions are the Macduff Marine Aquarium, Sandends Surf School, Loch of Strathbegfor maintained by the RSPB and around the loch there are hides from which to watch the birds, Aden Country Park, and Maggie's Hoosie Museum.

The space
Paula's cottage is a traditional old cottage but has modern amenities. The stairs are quite steep and the WiFi may not down load movies. But, if you want a comfortable quiet escape and enjoy the countryside, coast and walking it's ideal. Logs for the fire are provided so you can have a cosy evening in. On arrival we will leave you milk etc and a few breakfast essentials just in case you are too busy exploring to pop to the shop.

The cottage is yours to enjoy. Kitchen with oven and microwave, sitting/dining room with log burner, bedroom, bathroom (with shower), rear courtyard, parking on street. The stairs are quite steep so may not suit if you have mobility issues.

On the route of the North East 250, overlooking the Sands of Forvie nature reserve and Cotehill Loch and just 2 minutes from the seaside village of Collieston.
Underfloor heating, a family bathroom, en-suite in bed 1 and a double bed and single bed bunk in bed 2.
Fully equipped kitchen, spacious living area, wi-fi throughout, digital TV, a dining table, sofa and seating. Everything is provided to make a home away from home.

The space
A newly built house to latest building standards with double glazing and central heating completed in June 2016, within the grounds of Cotehill Steadings, our family home.
One bedroom has a double bed and en-suite, the second bedroom has a bunk bed with a double on the bottom and a single on top.
There is also a family bathroom.
The living space is well appointed with a leather sofa, large LED digital TV, dining table and chairs and a breakfast bar with bar stools. Broadband Wi-Fi throughout.
The cottage has all the benefits of a quiet rural location yet within 10 minutes of a large Tesco, 5 mins from the corner shop and 20 from the city of Aberdeen.
The cottage overlooks Cotehill Loch and the Sands of Forvie nature reserve which can be accessed on foot within 200 metres of the house, or a 1 minute drive to the visitor centre.
Collieston is 2 minutes drive away and has a family friendly beach and ice cream shop. Other beaches at Newburgh, Hackley Bay, Cruden Bay and of course Aberdeen are within easy reach.
Trump International Golf Links is 10 minutes drive away and being Aberdeenshire the locale is littered with other quality Golf courses.
Great location as a base for family cycling due to an extensive network of very quiet B roads, I can store bikes in my garage for you if you'd like to keep them out of the weather.
There are National Trust attractions close by, lots of castles, gardens and parks including Haddo House, Pitmedden Gardens, Aden Country Park, Crathes, Craigevar, Drum and Fraser Castles.
The town of Ellon is 10 minutes away and offers a selection of take-aways, restaurants, pubs and local amenities including a large Tesco.
Newburgh is 5 mins away and has a decent pub, corner shop etc.
Fine dining at award winning restaurants 'Eat on the Green' and the 'Cock and Bull' are both a short drive away.

Guest access
This is an entire self contained house, younger children are welcome to play in the garden and use the climbing frame, monkey bars and swings.
There is ample parking directly in front of the house and the property is situated well back from the road and secured by an automatic gate, we'll give you a plipper.

Other things to note
We have two young children so would please ask visitors to respect a strict 5mph speed limit on the driveway. We don't mind late comings and goings but please be respectful of the peace and quiet :-).

We live in the main farmhouse and your accommodation will be the annex on the right as you face the house.

You can walk down the drive, and at the first corner on the right at the end of the field, you can walk along the side of the fence, which takes you into an open grass field.

Please note that the cliff edge is nearby, especially if walking your dogs.

If you are lucky you will see the family of deer that live there.

Driftwood Cottage has a relaxed, seaside theme and a most amazing garden including a summer house and decking with spectacular views at the top of the hill!

The cottage sleeps 2 on the ground floor and 2 in an upstairs twin room. It has off road parking for 2 cars, an EV charger, good WiFi and your four legged friends are very welcome.

We hope you will visit Driftwood and discover historic Portsoy in this often overlooked corner of the North East of Scotland for yourselves!

The space
The cottage is cosy and comfortable, a real home from home. It is well equipped with everything we thought you might need - but we are open to suggestions if you think we've missed something! There is a king size double bedroom, walk in shower room, welcoming lounge and modern and fully equipped kitchen, all on the ground floor, with a twin room and play area (with low ceilings, so most suited to children) upstairs. There is a small enclosed courtyard from the back door, leading up to an amazing garden. At the top, there is a ‘sitooterie’ (a summer house!), where you can sit out, enjoy your G&T (or cup of tea!) and look out over the higgledy piggledy roof tops of the historic conservation area and beyond that, out to sea.

Portsoy is a close knit and friendly community, centred round it's two historic harbours, whose picturesque setting has featured both in Peaky Blinders and the remake of Whisky Galore. The coastline is craggy, interspersed with some beautiful beaches and you can walk for miles, past Sandend and Sunnyside beaches, the ruins of Findlater Castle, perched precariously on the cliffs edge, past Cullen beach and on to the Bow Fiddle Rock (tho' you may want to split that into sections!!!). The harbours face north, so if you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights from our beautiful dolphin statue or the milky way on a dark night. It's a wonderful spot to explore!

Guests have access to all areas of the cottage and the garden. There is a shed where they can store bikes out of sight.

We try to manage our all our cottages in as sustainable a manner as possible. We recycle everything and provide information so our guests can do the same. We are aiming to reduce our use of plastics, by refilling (handsoaps) or sourcing products without plastic packaging (toilet paper, detergents etc). We both drive electric vehicles. I try not to use the tumble dryer, whatever the weather, line drying sheets and towels outside whenever possible. And we have recommendations of local activites, food suppliers and attractions so you can reduce your carbon footprint once you are here. A small start perhaps, but a step in the right direction!
