- "We‘ve had a wonderful stay in a great retreat in a lovely town!" - "My family and I had an excellent stay in Porthleven. The house was lovely, very clean, and it had everything we needed for a week away from home. The location is excellent and it was just a few minutes walk to the harbour. We couldn’t always get parked on the street that the house is on, but we did manage to park each night in the street behind if needed which wasn’t a big deal. We messaged the hosts a couple of times and I have to say that they were excellent. They replied quickly each time and they were super accommodating. Overall we had an excellent stay, and I would highly recommend this property and hosts."

The only thing we would improve would be to maybe have a bench/small table and chairs in the yard area to enjoy a glass of wine on warmer evenings as with a small child it’s difficult for us to stay out late"

Coral Cottage
Cottage
Porthleven, England, United Kingdom

A cozy traditional fisherman's cottage in the heart of Porthleven. Within walking distance to an abundance of independent shops, award-winning cafes/restaurants plus characterful pubs & the beach. Porthleven has retained its character of an unspoilt fishing village with its granite harbor and pier & famous clock tower. A perfect eating, walking, beach holiday.

Coral Cottage is arranged on three floors. The kitchen, utility room, shower room and rear entrance on the ground floor, living room on the first floor and two bedrooms on the second floor.

The main bedroom has a double bed with built in wardrobe and chest of drawers while the second bedroom offers a single bed with hanging rail and storage.

The living room offers comfortable sofas, smart TV and a multi-fuel log burning stove for those cozy Autumn/Winter evenings. From here, you go down some stairs to the kitchen, utility and shower room all with traditional beams and full of character.

The utility area houses the washing machine, ironing board etc. Here is a perfect safe space for your bikes/surfboards etc.

We recommend children from the age of 5 upwards for our cottage, mainly due to the open staircases. The stairs are traditionally steep and there is limited headroom in places. The quirks of Coral Cottage is what makes it so special.

One small dog allowed (under 10kg). We ask that you bring your own blanket and towel for your pet please.

Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the whole property.

The Neighborhood:
Porthleven is one of Cornwall's prettiest fishing villages and the most southerly working port in the UK. Come for some of the best food in all of Cornwall - Michael Caines has a restaurant here. Seafood lovers will be in total heaven at The Mussel Shoal, a kiosk on the quay. The real fun part is that diners can book to be taken out to eat on their very own pontoon! In summer, the whole town is taken over by a free three-day food festival where the streets are lined with fragrant stalls and the pubs sprawling with happy punters. In under a 20-minute drive, you will find the wonderful Flora at New Yard restaurant, this is the crème de la crème of Cornish cuisine. Aside from its culinary offering, this picturesque boat-filled harbour is brilliant for nature lovers too. It’s possible to surf at the town’s beaches, but with some of the most testing waves in Cornwall, beginners may like to try the nearby Praa Sands instead. Walkers can enjoy hikes straight from the front door, taking off in either direction along the renowned South West Coast Path. Head one way and you’ll enter the magnificent Lizard Peninsula (which boasts some of the region’s best and quietest beaches). Meanwhile, the other way takes you to Rinsey and onto Praa Sands - which is fabulous all year round. There’s so much to do and see in this corner of Cornwall and we’ve shared more of our local tips and tricks in our Guest Guide - available upon booking.

It's not just restaurants that are in plenty here, you'll find a handful of welcoming pubs within walking distance of the cottage. Head to The Ship for beautiful views and live music or The Harbour Inn for a pint or two on a sunny day. As if that wasn't enough, you can enjoy long rambles along the coastal path from Looe Bar for stunning views of the gnarly Cornish cliffs and stop at Origin Coffee to refuel before browsing the independent galleries, jewellers and art shops that line the harbour. We highly recommend making bookings in advance to avoid disappointment!

From Porthleven you can take the A394 towards Penzance, stopping off at the beaches along the way. Praa Sands is a wide sandy beach perfect for families, but try the more secluded bay of Prussia Cove a little further along down a single track road if you want something quieter. There are also lovely walks along this part of the coast if you have time, such as the route from Perranuthnoe to Cudden Point; around two miles of scenic trail along the clifftops. A busy day is always best finished with food, and locals love heading to New Yard Restaurant for innovative dining in a rustic alfresco setting. Only a 25 minute drive and you are in the popular towns of Carbis Bay and St Ives.

Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of Cornwall we would highly recommend bringing a car to make the most of your time here. That said, the cottage is ideally located within a short walk of Porthleven's harbour, shops and restaurants. There is a private parking behind the cottage with space for one vehicle.

Other Things to Note:
Please let us know how you would like the 3rd bedroom made up for your stay.

Dogs welcome with fee of £20/dog (max 2).

Interaction with Guests:
We will be available via message, email and phone during your stay. Any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch!

Guest Reviews:

- "Great property and location , we had street light out side bedroom window and curtains could have been thicker and the light was shining in all times apart from that great" - "Excellent cottage, very clean and we were welcomed with tea bags, milk, scones, clotted cream and jam. Loved the cottage, and it was so quiet, although very close to main area. Loved this cottage and everything was perfect." - "The cottage is located in a small quiet terraced street close to the harbour and we were able to park here for the week we stayed. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. We had a lovely week in the cottage and really enjoyed being in the heart of Porthleven which has a variety of places to eat and drink, and is a very attractive place to walk around. We hadn’t appreciated from the listing that the kitchen was on a lower level or how low and steep the staircase was to access it. We are mobile and could manage but this would be a problem for people with more restricted mobility."

Seaside, harbour, historic pubs, walks, galleries
Cottage
Cornwall

Our family cottage is a charming, 200-year-old, white-washed fisherman’s cottage nestled in the heart of Porthleven, West Cornwall. It is just two-minutes-walk from the fishing harbour - and an array of restaurants, cafes, pop-ups, boutiques and galleries. The cottage has two wood-stoves for you to enjoy, original artworks from Cornish artists, high quality furnishings and a secluded, pretty garden.

The space
Dai Mar cottage retains original features, giving it character and charm. The lounge has a stable-door, and fully working wood-fired stove; the kitchen also has a wood stove for guest use (logs can be bought in the local supermarket).
Elsewhere, I have tried to ensure that nearly everything in the cottage, from the furniture, fabrics, linens and wood stoves, to the crockery, cutlery and chestnut pan, is made in England and designed to last, to support the work of craftsmen and women in the UK. All the original art is from Cornish artists.
It's the extra little touches that gives the cottage its welcoming quirkiness: the wrought-iron fork for toasting crumpets over the fire, the chestnut pan for roasting chestnuts in winter, the natural fabrics and materials, and the sunny, secluded garden.
Our kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, grill, microwave and under the counter fridge with a small freezer compartment, as well as a full range of quality cooking utensils.
The lounge has a 32 inch Frame television by Samsung and an Evoke radio/bluetooth speaker for streaming music.
There is a new washer-dryer in an outhouse for guests to use.
You'll be reassured to know that the cottage has a strong BT internet connection.
Upstairs, the master bedroom has a queen-sized bed, hand-made in solid ash by the Natural Bed Company in Sheffield. The super-comfy queen-sized mattress is made by Vi-Spring, which has a 'His Majesty the King' award for their English craftsmanship.
Our second bedroom has a solid oak single bed, hand-crafted in East London, with roller-drawers for storage. It has a Vi-Spring mattress and natural bedding.
The bathroom has a bath and shower, grab bar, luxury towels and candles for those who like candle-lit baths.
I've recently had the cottage restored to its original state, by Oak Ridge, a local restoration company specialising in traditional methods. The outside of the cottage, and some of the rooms are now rendered in traditional Lyme render, to allow the cottage to breath, which is just how it would have been built 200-years-ago - before it was cemented up in the 1950s.
But there are a number of translucent patches, which are inevitable in a seaside cottage, I'm told. Thankfully, these imperfections have not affected the enjoyment of any of my guests, all of whom have been most kind in their appreciation of Dai Mar cottage.
I look forward, hopefully, to welcoming you!

Guest access
Guests have full, independent use of our cottage and garden. Guests also have access to The Outhouse, for the sole purpose of doing laundry. The Outhouse is located on the way to the garden, just outside the kitchen door.

Other information to note: our cottage is a non-smoking home. It has good, solid BT internet/Wifi.
I love pets, but our cottage is pet-free.
I love children (I have a teenager of my own) but the cottage is not suitable for children from ages one to twelve because of steep stairs, pale carpets, heavy lamps and an absence of child-friendly accessories such as high chair, window safety catches, cot or stair-gate. Thanks you for your understanding.

Perfect for families and groups of friends
A short walk from the beautiful Porthleven Harbour

Porthleven View is a luxurious, modern house that is perfect for a group holiday in a thriving location. With a fantastic open-plan living area, a bubbling hot tub and two south-facing balconies, you will have ample space to socialise and relax together. Should you wish to explore the area, Porthleven Harbour is just a short walk away and provides a range of shops, restaurants and cafes to peruse throughout your stay. Or you can head to Praa Sands Beach for a day at the seaside.

This stunning coastal home incorporates a fine balance of modern luxury and contemporary chic throughout. The property begins with a large stairway which leads to the modern entrance hall where you can store your shoes and coats after a day of exploring.

The modern kitchen is complete with a four-seater breakfast bar, two ovens, two fridges, an electric hob and a toaster, making it the perfect place to cater for large groups and celebrations.

When your delicious banquet is ready to serve, head over to the dining table for an evening of socialising and relaxing in front of the crackling log burner. In the warmer weather, you can open the bi-fold doors and spill out onto the south-facing terrace for a crisp glass of wine or a dip in the hot tub.

Off the kitchen, there is a handy utility room with a washing machine and dryer, plus a separate WC.

The sitting room is a particularly relaxing space, complete with a built-in entertainment system so you can stream your favourite movies with ease. There is also a six-seater corner sofa and an electric fireplace for cosy nights in.

There are five bedrooms, all featuring hotel-quality mattresses, Egyptian cotton bedding and a Smart TV. There are three bedrooms on the ground floor with en-suite shower rooms and two bedrooms with a shared shower room on the first floor.

Meanwhile, a comfortable snug/kitchen area divides the two upstairs bedrooms and provides a relaxing space for some peace and quiet. There is a coffee machine, a drinks fridge, a toaster, a kettle, a breakfast bar and a desk for remote working if required. Relax on the sofa bed for the ultimate movie night on the Smart TV or enjoy fresh coffee on the balcony which is complete with a comfortable rattan suite and stunning harbour views.

The outside space features a relaxing south-facing terrace with a hot tub, fire pit table and a BBQ for alfresco meals. When the sun starts to set, head to the landscaped tropical back garden for freshly made pizza from the pizza oven or an evening of chatter under the pergola seating area with the warmth of the fire pit.
