Fowey is a delightful old seaside town with many attractions. Fowey Museum, an Aquarium, as well as local shops, there are Galleries showing the work of local artists and craftspeople, a wonderful Book Shop, gift shops, riverside cafes and bistros, all within walking distance of The Square Rig apartments. Home to a Royal Yacht Club, Fowey holds a Royal Regatta every August, a week-long festival which takes place both on and off the water.

Every May there is also a Cultural Festival. Authors Daphne du Maurier and Arthur Quiller Couch lived in Fowey and the town also has links with Kenneth Grahame’s Wind in the Willows, which is loosely based on the River Fowey and uses local landmarks in the story. On the river and the estuary there is a wide variety of birds, as well as seals and even dolphins which sometimes venture close to the shore. Sightseeing boat trips offer the opportunity not only to spot the wildlife but also to see this dramatic coastline from a different perspective. If you fancy exploring further afield there is the Fowey to Mevagissey boat that runs throughout the season (weather permitting), or you can take one of the Square Rig’s kayaks or the rowing boat (strictly at guests own risk, limited range of buoyancy aids, guests are advised to bring their own or hire locally) up the river and see the small waterside villages with their quaint churches and lively pubs.

If you feel like a walk, ferries cross the estuary at both ends of the town, going to Bodinnick and Polruan. Once on the other side, there is the famous Hall Walk that follows the estuary, taking you through wooded valley, past hidden creeks and offering amazing views from the cliffs.

Other activities such as cycling, golf, horse riding and walking can all be enjoyed locally. Visits can be made to historic country houses and castles such as Lanhydrock House and Restormel Castle, as well as the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and other National Trust and private gardens found in Cornwall.

This property doesn’t have amenities on the doorstep but there is a lovely walk along public footpaths (under 20mins at a reasonable pace but you have to be prepared for some hills) across fields which takes you to the Boddinick Ferry where there is a great pub. Alternatively you can catch the ferry across to Fowey (very pretty) - ferry runs back & forth all day, takes cars & foot passengers and takes about 5 mins. Had a wonderful time exploring the area knowing we had such a lovely property to return to!"

- "A real home from home and absolute gem of a place. Fantastic location with wonderful views and just a 5 minute walk to Readymoney Cove and Whitehouse Beach and a 10 minute walk (at the most) to the shops and pubs/restaurants in beautiful Fowey. The Wheelhouse is cosy and warm with good sized accommodation. The furnishings are beautifully done and the kitchen has an extremely good range of appliances and utensils. The bathroom and shower room are modern and the showers are great! The beds are really comfortable too. The whole place is clean and tidy and very well decorated and maintained. There's a good range of books and board games, and even a pair of binoculars to look at the wonderful views! There's also an extensive range of information provided in the property by way of books, maps and leaflets about Fowey and the local area. I can thoroughly recommend staying here and can honestly say I will be re-booking."

The historic seafaring town of Fowey is famous as the home of the writer Daphne Du Maurier and the location of the annual Fowey Royal Regatta. It is a magnet for watersports enthusiasts from sailing and sea fishing, to kayaking on the river. Fowey has it all; coastal walks and boat trips out to sea to spot dolphins and seals can be taken from the quay, as can a ferry across the bay. There are many National Trust gardens and houses in the area, as well as the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan which are both must do destinations. There are numerous walks that can be started right from your door. The Hall Walk is a particular favourite with locals, and visitors, as it hugs the estuary as it tracks through the wooded banks along its shore, with sea and town views along the way. The Esplanade is part of the South West Coastal Path and you can walk around the point to Polkerris and past Daphne Du Maurier’s family home at Menabilly. - "This lovely family home is nestled in the little village of Bodinnick, a steep but short walk to the ferry to Fowey. The house itself is comfy and welcoming with a perfect outdoor balcony area above the garage with amazing views. The beds are comfy and the towels are fluffy and with an abundance of facilities and utensils etc. Fowey has upmarket shops, restaurants as well as a Boots and Post Office. Boat trips and hire, paddle board and kayak hire. Ferry crossing every ten minutes until 8:30pm then a foot ferry late into the evening.(cost). Half an hour from Looe. Polperro, Eden Project, Adrenalin Quarry and Par Beach. Lantic beach a little gem of a beach down a very steep incline but worth it. Ready Money Cove is not dog friendly but we swam and did crabbing off a boat ramp. On Ferry to Mervagissey saw dolphins. Football golf nearby. Premier grocer ten minutes away, Morrison’s and Tesco half hour away. The seafood was amazing from crab sandwiches to mussels and freshly caught fish. Bookings not always necessary. The Gallion in Fowey was our favourite. Drank too much cider and ate too many Cornish pasties, ice cream and fudge. All of this area very dog friendly. Bowls of water all over the area and many restaurants happy to have dogs also. We loved this place so much and were very sad to leave. Thank you for a holiday never to be forgotten."

It’s the sort of place where breakfast drifts into daydreams as boats glide past like lazy brushstrokes.

The house sits along the Esplanade, just a short walk from the town centre, the harbour, shops, restaurants and cafes. Wander the other way for ten to fifteen minutes and you’ll reach the sandy curve of Readymoney Cove. It’s an easy pick for a family holiday or for couples sharing who want river light and coastal wandering at their doorstep.

The town adds its own rhythm through the year. In May, the Literary Festival of Books and Music fills the streets with stories and song, along with open days at local art galleries and gardens. August brings the annual Sailing Regatta, a bright tangle of masts and friendly rivalry on the water. As the year cools, late November into early December hosts a cheerful Christmas Market, with the scent of spices and pine drifting through the lanes. And only fifteen minutes away by car, the Eden Project offers its otherworldly biomes for days when you want to step into a different climate entirely.

The cottage is in a superb location in Fowey, right on the water's edge it has a great view down the estuary. Everything is within easy walking distance. the town centre with its great shops, pubs and restaurants is a 5 minute walk away. A further 15 minute scenic walk and you are at Readymoney Cove. There are numerous walks from the cottage and car parking is very close by. Riverside, being away from the town centre is also relatively quiet, so after a busy day exploring you can get a good nights rest.

It features a hand made bespoke kitchen with quartz worktops Miele appliances include integrated oven and dishwasher, there is also an integrated fridge and wine cooler. A freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer is provided in the basement.

We have also installed top quality bathrooms with Hansgrohe rain showers and Duravit sanitaryware.

The lounge has exposed beams, woodburning stove, and bi fold door with a superb view. It also features quality furnishings, beautiful fabrics and a large smart tv.

Town: Par village is located on the South Cornwall coast offering a sandy family and dog-friendly beach (dogs allowed all year round) on St. Austell Bay. The village is only 2.5 miles away from the internationally renowned Eden Project, which can be reached on foot through the leafy green Luxulyan Valley. Between Par and the picturesque harbour of Fowey, is the Gribbin Peninsula, which has magnificent views of the surrounding coastline and makes for an excellent walk. Close to Par are many places connected to the author Daphne du Maurier, including the small cove at Polkerris which boasts the Rashleigh Arms and which takes its name from a local landowner whose house was frequented by the author. There are many attractions in the area including the China Clay Country Park, Charlestown Shipwreck Museum and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Seashells is an end of terrace cottage, overlooking the harbour, and situated in the heart of the pretty village of Polruan. The cottage has been lovingly renovated by the present owners. It is ideally placed for exploring the area, as well as visiting nearby landmarks such as the Eden Project.
The cottage is dog friendly and is equipped so that they too can enjoy their stay. Fabulous walks to be enjoyed all around.

The space
On entering, there is a porch area, ideal for washing muddy boots and doggies, with the house to the left and utility room to the right. The utility room, which has its own separate toilet, has a washing machine and sink, and provides good space for storage of walking boots and other wet and marine gear. The well equipped kitchen–diner leads on into the lounge which has a wood-burning effect electric fire, Free-view TV, Wi-Fi, 2 comfortable sofas and a window seat overlooking the estuary. Upstairs consists of the master bedroom which also has a window seat overlooking the estuary, a second bedroom and modern shower room with toilet. There is a small patio at the front of the house for sitting out and enjoying the view over the harbour and estuary, the patio in the back garden is ideal for sitting and enjoying a glass of wine!

"The Smugglers Blues” is a traditional eighteenth century former fisherman's cottage situated in the quiet heart of the famous, picturesque, and vibrant fishing village of Fowey; one of the most renowned and beautiful riverside villages in Cornwall.

The space
Ideally situated on Rose Hill, it gives quick access; just 4/5 minutes’ walk; to the bustling village, yet is set back enough to maintain a quiet and tranquil setting for those moments of relaxation and rest which is an essential part of any holiday.

The village offers everything you could want; a wide and varied selection of shops from clothing, arts and craft, food/wine, and souvenirs; an extensive selection of pubs, bistros, and restaurants offering standard pub fayre all the way up to award winning fine cuisine. (word of warning; from experience the walk back up the hill can be a tad longer than the 4/5 minute walk down; not least depending on how much nightlife you sample ?)

The charming quayside offers a variety of ferry rides; including the five minute ride over to Polruan, fishing cruises, and self-drive motor boat hire… as well the opportunity to try your hand at crabbing and shrimping off the harbour wall. The beautiful Readymoney beach is a sight inspiring 10 minute walk from the village centre taking in some of the fantastic harbour and sea views that Fowey offers.

And for those not so great days; which our great country does “occasionally” experience, there is a great selection of books and board games. For the more visual minded, there is an extensive DVD collection; ranging from children’s movies, romantic comedies, action movies, box sets, thrillers, B/W classics, naturally there are a few James Bond’s to be found, and for any rugby fans; well there’s enough to keep you busy for a few days, especially if you’re a Lions fan. For any budding surfers, you have the benefits of some true classics..

There are two outside areas with a high walled, private courtyard garden for relaxing afternoons in the sun, BBQ’s and the essential evening sundowners. The rear garden is fully decked and includes a full dinning table set for six people, sun parasol, sun-lounger's, an extended purpose built sun bathing deck, and BBQ area. Through the nature of the aspect of the cottage, the rear garden has the benefit of sun all day round, from the moment the sun comes up over the estuary until the sun sets over Fowey Hill; at which point, it should be time to hit the village and sample the nightlife.

Sky Cottage is a beautifully restored vernacular Cornish cottage built as one of a pair in around 1850, it is the perfect sanctuary from the stresses of work and responsibility and a great central place from which to explore all of Cornwall. Located in the pretty riverside village of Golant-by-Fowey, Sky Cottage is furnished to a very high standard with a large comfy leather sofa and tub chair in the lounge, oak floors, wood-burning stove and unlimited dry logs, fire-lighters, matches etc are provided. The beautiful airy bedroom with exposed beams and twinkle lighting has a king-sized 5' bedstead with excellent mattress, topper, and quality 100% cotton bed-linen, it has a view over the village rooftops to the river. Lovely soft towels are also provided. Pillow and mattress protectors are of course laundered for every guest. The lounge has a 'smart' digital 40" TV with Free View and Netflix (logged in ready for you). One of the plug sockets has four USB charging points. There is a European plug converter available. The bedroom 32" TV is digital with Free View . There is free Wi-Fi in the cottage, and an ethernet cable should you need one. A well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave and large fridge with separate freezer above, and a worktop for food preparation. (There is no washing machine - local laundry only 3 miles, details in the information file at the cottage.)
Within the village there is Kayak hire from 'Encounter Cornwall' for private hire or guided river tours (see our Sky Cottage discount code in the information file) they also have a tea shop/cafe by the river. Golant was the home of EV Thompson who wrote the wonderful Retallick series of novels set in Cornwall, well worth a read. To dine in, cook at the cottage or order a takeaway from the local Fisherman's Arms pub (200m) on the water-front or treat yourselves for a special occasion at one of the many superb restaurants nearby. Swim in the sea at Polkerris Beach (4 miles) or Readymoney beach in Fowey (4 miles) or at Trenython Manor (when open) where you get lunch and a swim in their indoor pool.
With such fantastic walking all around you could easily park the car for a week and just walk. The Saints Way passes right through the village so join it in either direction to Fowey or Lanlivery (The Crown Inn) or divert to Lostwithiel for more great eateries and mooching places! Trips to Padstow, Truro and Plymouth are all only an hour or less. St Austell, Mevagissey (a very pretty fishing town), Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are all less than 30 minutes. A couple of miles up the road are The Hidden Valley Gardens and a little further to Duchy Nursery (Lostwithiel) a wonderful shop, garden centre and superb restaurant. Our family all love St Wyllow which sits in the heart of Polruan across the river from Fowey. The sunny terrace is perfect for a rest after enjoying a rugged SW Coast Path walk or simply messing about on the river. Cornish charm away from it all

A Cornish cottage overlooking Fowey estuary at the Castle end of West Street and restored to a high standard. The two bedrooms and bathroom are downstairs, while the comfortable sitting room/dining area and kitchen are upstairs to take advantage of the views across the harbour to Fowey and Readymoney Cove. The coastal path is 50 yards from the door and Fowey is 5 mins away by ferry. The Mevagisey ferry will take you to the Lost Gardens of Heligan usually from April to Oct. Visit Eden Project.

The space
Both bedrooms have King size beds. Bedroom 1 overlooks the estuary and Bedroom 2 overlooks a small footpath. There are no cars driving past the cottage. The King size bed in Bedroom 2 also splits into 2 singles which gives greater flexibility. The bathroom has a small bath with a good power shower overhead. The cleaning fee set by our housekeeper includes cleaning the cottage thoroughly when you leave and providing, washing/drying/ironing the white cotton bed linen and towels as appropriate.

We have a designated space in a private car park with 10 spaces, about 100 metres from the cottage and is included in the rental. Unloading is about 20 yards from the cottage. The cottage is South facing with French windows out onto the patio where you can sit and relax. Modern, en-suite bathroom with free standing roll top bath and large stone floored shower.

The space
The whole cottage is beautifully kept with both the bathroom and the kitchen fitted with brand new fixtures and fittings as well as a new oven, hob, full size diishwasher, fridge and freezer. The bathroom is also brand new with a free-standing roll-top bath, large shower and basin. The bed/sitting room is also spacious and there is a place for working as well as relaxing with a sofa and large coffee table. The bed faces the TV as well as the patio, so has has a lovely view. The cottage is surrounded by an acre of pretty garden in the countryside and is a quiet and secluded retreat whilst also being next door to the owner if help is required at any time.

Guest access
There is easy guest access with private off-road parking inside the property and is very safe. The cottage itself is completely independent and detached within the grounds and has its own front door. The little village of Golant is quiet, picturesque and on the river Fowey. There are lots of wood, river and field walks straight out of the property without having to drive to get to them. The sea and lovely beaches are only a couple of miles in two directions - one way to Par and the other to Fowey - these can be reached by bus, cycling or by car. At Par there is a train station with very regular trains travelling directly to Truro and Newquay or Plymouth, Exeter and Paddington, London.

Other things to note
Golant has Kayaking boats for hire, fishing and mooring as well as a little playground, picnic area and a nice local pub which also serves hot food. Par has some lovely beaches, as does nearby Polkerris, which also has a very popular pub and a restaurant on the beach, as well as a beach shop with boat hire and sailing lessons available. Fowey is a famous and very pretty harbour town with lots of shops and cafes, restaurants and pubs to visit. There is also a Tourist Information Centre there.

The space
As you enter Grace cottage you’ll find yourself in the lounge which has an open fireplace perfect for those long winter evenings. Logs are provided for guests staying during months October to March.

The dinning room leads into the well equipped kitchen, which has a cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer & fridge with freezer compartment. For those longer stays there is an additional freezer in the store just outside the kitchen.

From the kitchen you can access the secluded courtyard via a short set of steps. Here you’ll find garden furniture & BBQ.

On the first floor there is a double bedroom, bunk bed room & family bathroom, with bath & shower.

On the second floor is a further double bedroom which overlooks the courtyard garden.

In the cupboard under the stairs you’ll find iron/ ironing board, high chair, clothes airer, hover, dog crate & shopping bags for your convenience.

Located in the top bedroom wardrobe is a fan & additional stair gate.
The travel cot is located under the beds in the bunk room.
You’ll find hairdryers in both the double bedrooms.

Grace cottage is situated on a steep hill & spans over three levels.

On arrival & departure guests can pull up outside the property to load & unload their vehicle, before heading to their parking destination.

Due to the steep hill previous guests have found it useful to transport luggage via a camping trolley or wheeled suitcase.

Access to the courtyard garden is via a short set of concrete steps.

We welcome furry friends at Grace, but in the interest of hygiene we respectfully ask that dogs remain downstairs at all times.

The space
The cottage is the middle of a terrace of three and is laid out on three floors connected by a fairly steep, narrow staircase. For this reason and because we have not ‘childproofed’ the cottage with stairgates, cupboard locks etc, the cottage is unfortunately unsuitable for families with small children or for the infirm due to the number of stairs.
The large lounge with woodburner and bay window occupies the whole lower ground floor; above that there is a kitchen with a dining table for 4, a modern bathroom and a small bedroom and on the top floor is the main bedroom with king size bed, en-suite shower room and a further small bedroom. All rooms have panoramic views over the harbour.

Guest access
Polruan is an historic fishing village with houses tumbling down the cliffs and hillside to the water's edge. Most of the visitor parking is at the very top of the hill and properties close to the water (like 'Waves") do have magnificent views, but no parking outside. We have a dedicated parking space about 150m from the cottage. You will need to trundle your luggage to/from your car. We have a self check-in system with a key code. Local support is available if you have any problems/questions.

Due to the three storey design and narrow stairwell (without stairgates), 'Waves' is not suited to guests with very small children or the infirm.

Other things to note
Outside school holidays you can book for 3 nights minimum. During February and October half term there is a five night minimum stay and during the school summer holidays a four night minimum stay. We offer a discount for 7 nights or more (up to 14 nights maximum) which should be calculated automatically by Airbnb. Check-in any day except a Sunday.

You cannot park right outside the cottage to unload as all the cottages close to the water in Polruan have limited access. There is a private parking space 150m from the cottage that you can use free of charge.

Fowey and its harbour is a deservedly popular tourist destination, especially in summer. Fowey, across the harbour, gets especially busy, but Polruan has remained quaint and peaceful - like Cornwall used to be several decades ago. This is perhaps because Polruan is not on a main road, so once in and settled, it is best to explore locally rather than try to use Polruan as a base to explore wider Cornwall. There is lots to see and do in and around the harbour during the season - with a ferry running between Polruan and Fowey on a constant basis - and the working harbour and sail boats provides all day entertainment in itself. A post office, local bakery, coffee shop and village stores, two pubs are just minutes walk from the front door are open year-round.
Fowey is a deep water harbour with a commercial boatyard, visiting cruise ships, china clay boats and a vibrant dinghy sailing community. There is always something happening on the water! Being a harbour though, there are no big sandy beaches, just relatively small ones that appear as the tide goes out.

Rose Cottage is our beautiful two-bedroom Cornish cottage based in the picturesque harbour town of Fowey. The property is full of character and just a few minutes stroll from the waterfront, beach and Fowey's selection of independently owned shops and eateries. Rose Cottage has a delightful enclosed patio garden that’s a real sun trap providing a truly relaxing and cosy retreat within easy reach of beaches, ferries and more, providing a potentially car free stay! Children and dogs are welcome.

The space
The sheltered harbour of Fowey is a truly magical destination, and Rose Cottage is just a short stroll up the hill from the centre of this quintessential Cornish fishing village. Open the gate to the property and you’ll discover the private, enclosed patio garden. It’s such a sun trap that in the spring and summer months you’re bound to spend some time here simply enjoying the Cornish sun.

The interior is lovely and bright, thanks to the neutral tones that make the most of all that seaside light. The spacious living room comes with a ‘rainy day cupboard,’ where you’ll find board games, books and DVDs to keep the little ones entertained. In the kitchen there’s a dining table and chairs to seat six, so plenty of room for you to enjoy meals together.

The story goes that Rose Cottage was originally the home of the local milliners and hatmakers of Fowey. It’s certainly ideally located for everything that the town has to offer. You can stroll down the hill to the beach at Ready Money Cove or to wander along the harbourside where you can take a ferry to Polruan on the other side of the river. As with most properties in Fowey, Rose Cottage doesn’t have its own parking. There’s space outside to load and unload, but for overnight and longer stays please use one of the town’s public car parks.

Attractions and nearby amenities
For a different view of the harbour, take the Polruan ferry over the River Fowey. The ferry departs every 10 or 15 minutes and it’s a delightful way to get started on the South West Coast Footpath.
During your stay in Fowey, you really should visit St Catherine’s Castle, one of two artillery forts that were built by Henry VIII to defend the harbour. It’s a bit of a climb, but the views are worth it. After coming back down, you’re in the perfect place for a spot of sunbathing at Ready Money Beach.
Narrow streets, steep hills, quaint fishing cottages and a working harbour – no, we’re not describing Fowey, but Mevagissey an equally charming Cornish destination. There are lots of seafood restaurants tucked away in the maze of lanes and streets here. Once you’ve enjoyed some fresh fish, why not spend the afternoon at The Lost Gardens of Heligan, a Victorian gem that was rediscovered and brought back to its former glory in the 1990s.
Further inland from Fowey is the town of Lostwithiel, This Norman town saw a lot of fighting in the Civil War, and much of it was rebuilt in the 17th century. There are plenty of antique shops to wander through – look out for a bargain! Not far from Lostwithiel is Restormel Castle, a perfectly round, 13th century ruin that stands proudly on a mound above the River Fowey. See if you can spot the famous black pheasants.
A short drive away is the Eden Project, a spectacular destination built in the heart of a disused clay pit, with unique ‘biomes’ filled with tropical and Mediterranean plants. This is a gardener’s paradise, and a fun and fascinating day out for all the family too.

At Fox Valley Cottages you will find the delightful cottage called Covey.
Covey is a 1 bedroom cottage which overlooks the lawns and boasts an open fireplace for cosy nights. You will find everything you need for your break and included in the price of your cottage is your electric, bed linen, towels, tea towels and free access to the heated indoor pool & hot tub and you will find a coin operated sauna, £1 for 20 minutes.

The space
Fox Valley Cottages is nestled in 7 acres of beautiful Cornish countryside near to the historic fishing villages of Looe and Polperro. On site there are 11 cottages which have been converted from the barns of Lanlawren Manor, each cottage has its own character, with exposed beams, open fires and all the comforts of home. We also have the luxury of an indoor heated pool, hot tub & coin operated sauna (£1 for 20 minutes) and games room for all ages.

For our four legged friends we have a dedicated dog field, warm outside shower & unlimited dog towels. We can provide dog crates & bowls if required.

The swimming pool & hot tub are free of charge but there is a small charge for the sauna (£1 for 25 minutes heat).

We have a recently updated children's play area with basket swing, inground trampoline, climbing frame with slide & firepole plus swing bars.

We have books & games to borrow in the guest laundry, please ensure they are returned.
There are 2 Washing machines (£1 for 1.5 hours) & a tumble dryer (£1 for 1 hour) plus washing lines & each cottage has a clothes airer.

The above areas are for shared use of all guests staying at Fox Valley Cottages.

Up to 2 dogs are welcome in each of our cottages & apartments. We have an enclosed dog exercise field, warm outside shower & unlimited dog towels plus items to borrow such as bowls, dog crates, stairgates etc. Dogs must be kept on a lead unless in the dog field.
Unfortunately, our insurance does not allow banned/dangerous dogs on site.
We are accessed via country lanes. We are around a 10 minute drive from Polperro & Pelynt. Looe is a 15 minute drive.
