Breathtaking 2 Bedroom Luxury Cornish Cottage with Panoramic Sea and Harbour Views with Hot Tub - Featured on Channel 4's George Clarke's Amazing Spaces Series 6 Episode 8
Harbour Lights - be the star of your very own atmospheric love story in this unique luxury sea sanctuary, set along the sweeping south coast of Cornwall.
The beautiful village port of Charlestown has played host to many famous figures in its time, from Poldark to Alice in Wonderland...and most recently George Clarke, who featured Harbour Lights, formerly known as the ‘Loo with a View', on his hugely popular ‘Amazing Spaces' TV programme.
It's not hard to see why George was so captivated by the intricate work lovingly carried out on this imaginative and elegantly restored property. Built in 1771 as a fish and net cellar, the building was later renovated into public conveniences before being rescued from its ramshackle state in 2015. The building has now been fully renovated into a truly luxurious pet-friendly two-bedroomed holiday hideaway, full of natural character and marine-inspired style, featuring truly unsurpassed sea views from the cliff top.
Great care and attention has been taken with the design and furnishing of every room to ensure perfect harmony with the beautiful coastal surroundings. Ancient reclaimed timber décor and solid oak doors add chic touches of time-honoured style, alongside the more contemporary pure white Italian marble worktops and soft grey backgrounds that perfectly complement the magnificent bay and harbour views from the windows.
The ground floor encompasses a spacious open-plan living area, described by George Clarke as fabulously "light and airy", featuring a fully furnished designer kitchen that looks out across the harbour. Fire up the stylish log burner and watch the ships as they glide languidly by!
Take the stairs and discover two exquisite bedrooms, one large double featuring glorious views over the harbour and Charlestown Bay - with a luxurious Heritage bath right at the bottom of the bed. The second, small bedroom features a mural with a beautiful view of the garden area.
You'll also find a stunning Italian marble and stainless steel furnished en-suite, and a utility area and walk-in wardrobe featuring fitted storage and a washer-dryer.
Underfloor heating and a Sonos sound system with three independent zones runs throughout, so that wherever you happen to be, you'll be effortlessly able to set the perfect mood!
The views become even better outside, when experienced with a glass of bubbles from the lavish four-seater hot tub looking out across the sea! There's a slate patio with shower area that's particularly lovely after a sandy day on the beach, and a beautiful garden with decked terraces and colourfully lush flowers and plants that have been carefully selected to make the most of their surroundings.
Discover Harbour Lights' namesake at the end of the garden...a quaint little lookout shed which in times past was home to the searchlight that guided the Tall Ships safely into harbour. Here you'll find two benches carved from the old roof timbers, creating the perfect romantic hideaway.
Oh - and just in case you're wondering whether any remnants of the building's former history remain, hanging proudly above the downstairs bathroom are the original ‘ladies' and ‘gentlemen' signs...the Cornish born-and-bred owners just couldn't bring themselves to flush those away!
You'll find it extremely difficult to tear yourself away from this sea sanctuary, but if you decide to venture out and about, why not take your dog to Charlestown beach for a run, perhaps with some seal and dolphin-spotting along the way?
There's also a large and friendly selection of local restaurants, bars and ice-cream parlours just five minutes' walk away, including the locally renowned Pier House Hotel. The ancient Grade 2 listed port is steeped in historical architecture...along with a glittering touch of celebrity from its regular use as a film set.
So set sail to Harbour Lights and take a punt on a invigorating and relaxing break with genuinely breathtaking sea views you won't forget in a hurry!
- "Really enjoyed our stay at Harbour Lights. Amazing location overlooking the beach and harbour. Our favourite thing was to take the short walk down to the beach, swim in the sea and then back to the hot tub... magical! Also enjoyed the short stroll into Charlestown to the Pier House and many restaurants around the harbour (Charlestown Fish, Dough Buoys, HBQ are all good). Then there is the Coastal Path which goes from outside the property. Going east up the hill is a great walk, but going west over to Duporth Beach was our favourite!"

Come and enjoy a relaxing break in this pretty and traditional Cornish cottage. Nantuat Stables sits in the grounds of the village Rectory, close to the centre of St Ewe, a small Cornish village close to The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Three double bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms mean that everyone has their own space and large communal areas mean there is plenty of space to socialise with friends and family. A large, well equipped kitchen and two living rooms mean that there is plenty of space for everyone to enjoy each other's company. A private garden with lawn and a covered hideaway mean there is space for evening BBQs and outdoor relaxation. Nantaut Stables has been recently updated with modern bathrooms and a beautiful interior that you can relax in away from the cares of the world. The Stables are independent but next door to the old rectory in which the owners live.
- "This was our second visit to Nantuat Stables (which speaks for itself), and it didn’t disappoint. It is an absolutely beautiful property, equipped with everything you will need for a comfortable and relaxing holiday (we were a party of 6, spanning 3 generations ranging from 9 to nearly 80). It is situated in beautiful, peaceful countryside with a great pub on your doorstep serving fantastic food, with the convenience of being less than 10 minutes to several lovely beaches, and other major attractions nearby. Sue is a welcoming and helpful host and I couldn’t recommend this property more."

The ceilings have exposed beams, and there is a cosy woodburning stove, as well as gas central heating.
The quirky layout hints at the unique history of this Grade II listed building, with features including a wooden stable-style door to the rear of the property, and a gothic arched wooden front door.
Tollgate is on a main road near a railway.
The space
Guests have a living room with radiator, wood-burner and smart TV (you will need to sign into your own streaming accounts). There is a small separate dining room, kitchen with gas cooker, washing dryer, dishwasher and fridge freezer.
Upstairs is a good sized bathroom, with toilet, sink and electric shower.
Main bedroom is very spacious, with gorgeous gothic windows, beamed ceiling, radiator, king sized bed, and ample hanging and drawer space.
Second bedroom is a cozy twin, and has a radiator, wardrobe with hanging space, and a chest of drawers.
Outside, guests have access to a patio area, with seating. There is also a rotary washing line. This is an old cottage with dry stone walls around the patio which may have loose stones. Guests use this area with caution and at their own risk.
Please note that the upper garden is private, can be unsafe and is not available to guests.
Tollgate is our home when we don't have guests, but you are welcome to borrow our books, games etc during your stay.

Guests have access to the entire property and patio area. The chairs and table on the upper patio may be covered when you arrive - please feel free to take off the cover and use the furniture. We would appreciate you replacing the cover if it rains.

You'll find a folder of useful information in the living room.
The cottage is easily accessible by road, but do be aware that it is situated on a bend, and entering and exiting the parking space should be done with caution.
The parking area is very narrow, and we only recommend that confident drivers with small cars park here, and reverse park only. You will need to drop any passengers before parking, and manoeuvre (with care) close to the left side to allow enough space for the driver to get out.
Alternative parking near the cottage may be available by prior arrangement. Please do not park opposite the cottage unless you have made prior arrangements, as that space belongs to our neighbours and is in regular use.
