Guest Reviews:

- "Amazing" - "Beautiful Location, Stunning Views and great walks for the dogs. Very relaxing. We also met the owners of the property. They could see that we were having difficulty with the garden gates and we had 3 small dogs who could get underneath them. They very kindly fixed this problem for us by applying some wire to the bottom so that they could not get out. Overall a brilliant stay and will be booking for next year. Thanks Canovi Family Maybe a small washing line to hang washing to dry. We did use a clothes rack but had to bring it in when out as the breeze would blow it over"

The Watchtower at Western Watch
Cottage
Pendeen, United Kingdom

Welcome to The Watchtower at Western Watch in Pendeen, Cornwall. This charming holiday property is a small and unique watchtower, perfect for two guests seeking a memorable getaway. The Watchtower offers breath-taking panoramic views of the surrounding fields towards the sea, and the iconic Pendeen Lighthouse.

Originally a single-storey granite barn predating the main house, this historic structure underwent a remarkable transformation thanks to the ingenuity of William Waters, a local man who served as a ship's radio operator during the Second World War. Mr. Waters, with his access to nearby shipyards, skilfully incorporated authentic maritime elements such as portholes, railings, and various ship parts, creating an enchanting atmosphere reminiscent of a seafaring vessel.

During his time in The Watchtower, Mr. Waters amassed an impressive collection of early radios, including some of the pioneering Marconi models. These radios, along with his extensive collection, are now housed in a museum in Suffolk, preserving his legacy and contribution to maritime history. Step back in time as you explore this unique space, where history and maritime nostalgia intertwine.

Ideal for up to two guests, step inside to discover the open plan living area with self-catering kitchenette facilities, including fridge-freezer, countertop double hob, kettle, combi microwave, conventional oven and grill and toaster. The ground floor bathroom includes an electric shower, basin, heated towel rail and WC.

Head up the staircase to the upper floor, with double bed and original low beams (watch your head!), where you can head out through the ‘hatch’ and onto the The Lookout to enjoy the far-reaching views across the Cornish coast. Guests can enjoy a morning coffee on the sofa inside or evening glass of wine on the wraparound balcony. The Lookout can also be accessed via an external spiral staircase, and leads back down to the garden, including an outdoor seating area, two large areas of gardens both enjoying spectacular sea views. Although the garden is enclosed, guests are responsible for ensuring dogs remain supervised at all times.

The white lighthouse of Pendeen Watch is an easy downhill mile away for walkers and from there it's just 10 minutes' walk down a track to the sandy inlet of Beach Cove, which is good for swimming. A further 15 minute walk along the coast path will take you to the hidden beach of Portheras Cove, which was recently voted ‘Best Secret Beach’ by The Times newspaper. Intrepid adventurers can reach Portheras in around 20 minutes via the more challenging track behind the house.

In more recent years, The Watchtower became the art studio of Cornish painter and printmaker Angela Annesley. As you wander through the tower, you'll have the opportunity to admire Angela's artworks on display. As a guest, you'll enjoy exclusive access to Angela's collection, with the chance to purchase any of the pieces at discounted prices. For a broader selection of her work, you can visit her website at www.angelaannesley.co.uk.

Guest Reviews:

- "Beautiful cottage with such a fun and interesting design and the most incredible views of the ocean (with stunning sunsets). Everything I needed on a working trip, including quiet and a comfortable bed. I could have sat in the Watchtower room til the end of days. The access to the coastline and footpaths was ideal to wind down at the end of the day, too. And I loved the decor, especially the beautiful artwork. Owners left me to privacy but were quick to respond to texts when I had any queries. Excellent! I’d recommended to anyone looking for a bit of peace in a rural setting."

Beautiful, comfortable, pet friendly cottage - Sleeps 4/5. Great reviews.
Cottage
Pendeen, England, United Kingdom

Trevow was lovingly renovated and refurbished in 2014 providing a holiday home from home to an exceptional standard. Set in a terrace of cottages and less than one minute walk to a winner of the CAMRA pub of the year, The North Inn Pub.

We bought Trevow in June 2014. We spent six months carefully overseeing its transformation from a beautiful, but tired, damp, cold miner’s cottage into the comfortable home you find today. The entire house was gutted down to the original granite stone and then bit by bit, rebuilt and refurbished.

We wanted some luxuries and a lot of comfort. We hope you find everything you need, but are always looking out for ideas. The cottage includes super broadband wifi, HD Smart TV, central heating, sumptuous honeymoon shower, a log burning stove, king sized sleigh bed in the master room, recently landscaped rear garden space, along with many, many more touches.

Downstairs finds the living room, kitchen, and bathroom to the rear of the property, whilst upstairs brings you two singles and a master bedroom. We provide a cot, high chair and additional bed to sleep 5.

There is ample parking to the front and to the rear of the cottage. The cottage is the perfect base for you to explore this beautiful part of Western Cornwall. Trevow is steeped in history, but many modern comforts and extra special features are provided to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible. Visit Geevor or Levant Tin & Copper mine, Cornwall's No1 Mining Centre, both within walking distance, where many scenes from the BBC Series 'Poldark' were shot. At Geevor you can take an underground tour, at Levant, experience the Beam steam engine. Pendeen has its very own lighthouse and you can walk to it from the cottage, on misty days you can even hear it boom. Ancient Monuments are easily found. Just 10 mins drive from the cottage, will bring you two of the most well known – Men-an-Tol and Lanyon Quoit, up on the moors where you can get the most wonderful views too. National Trust properties abound, particularly Trengwainton Gardens at Madron and magical St Michael’s Mount in Mount’s Bay, Penzance, are nearby and wonderful places to explore. Galleries everywhere, painting, ceramics, sculpture, jewellery and more. Penlee House Museum in Penzance, features work from the famous ‘Newlyn School’ and Lamorna group of artists (1800-1930). Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum house exciting Contemporary Art collections, and are just another reason to visit the fascinating harbour-town of St Ives, a jewel in the rugged north coast. A must is a visit to the atmospheric cliff-top Minack Theatre at Porthcurno (a beautiful beach here too). Experience Shakespeare, a musical or even a Roald Dahl story, in the open air, under the stars. And of course coves, beaches and harbours, what Cornwall is famous for. Portheras Cove is the nearest, a secluded sandy cove only accessible by foot. Sennen beach in Whitesand Bay, a world renowned perfect place for surfing the waves. Mousehole, just over to the south is a picture-perfect harbour, not to be missed. Pendeen, has an excellent Village Stores, Cafe, Fish and Chip Shop, Post Office, Pottery and a Farmer's Market held the first and third Saturday every month, all within three minutes walking distance of the cottage. further information at www.cornish-holiday-cottage.co.uk

Guest Reviews:

- "Excellent location. Very close to all you could wish for beaches, shopping, walks etc. We stayed for a week and were never short on things to see and explore. The house was perfect for our needs with a shop a minutes walk to get the necessities and a pub metres away for those days you just couldn't be bothered. We had a wonderful time and would reccomend highly to others." - "Lovely quiet location. Cottage was perfect for myself, wife and two teenage sons. The North Inn pub a mere 25 metres away was a friendly pub with excellent food and beer, would be my local if I lived nearby. Helen left a brilliant guide about the cottage and what to do in the surrounding area which we made full use of. We will be coming back in the future."

The space

For a broader selection of her work, you can visit her website at www. angelaannesley. co. uk.

Inside the bungalow, guests will love the characterful interiors with the vintage-style kitchen, original artwork adorning the walls and the cosy lounge with its wood-burning stove for the cooler autumn evenings. The owner is a local artist. Her woodcuts and paintings can be found in every room and can be bought by guests.

Both the kitchen/diner and the living room have concertina doors which open on to the large garden which has the incredible sea views. The garden is enclosed making it ideal for guests bringing young children and/or pets. Guests will love sitting out on warm evenings and enjoying a glass of wine watching the sun set over the sea.

All three of the double bedrooms are on the ground floor along with the family bathroom which has both a fabulous roll-top bath and a walk-in shower. There is an additional WC.

Guests can enjoy off-road parking with space for up to two cars, as well as wireless internet available throughout the property. Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome.

Western Watch is ideally located for West Cornwall’s incredible coastline and beaches. There are pubs, restaurants and cafes within easy reach. Pendeen itself has an attractive church and three pubs within walking distance, a chip shop, restaurant, corner shop, tapas cafe and a community hub. Every other Saturday there is a farmers' market in the centre of the town and another at Chypraze farm, which also has a farm shop, just down the road every Monday. Geevor and Levant Mines are popular tourist attractions only a short distance away.

The white lighthouse of Pendeen Watch is an easy downhill mile away for walkers and from here it's just 10 minutes' walk down a track to the sandy inlet of Beach Cove, which is good for swimming. A further 15 minute walk along the coast path will take you to the hidden beach of Portheras Cove, which was recently voted ‘Best Secret Beach’ by The Times newspaper. Intrepid adventurers can reach Portheras in around 20 minutes via the more challenging track behind the house.

HESKEN COTTAGE, BOSCASWELL

Full of style and detail, this delightful home is ideal for those seeking a chic yet cosy getaway. Set high above the Atlantic, sits the exceptional Hesken Cottage. With ever-changing views of the stunning, surrounding landscape and coast, this meticulously designed and decorated home is the perfect base for exploring all that ‘Poldark Country’ has to offer.

Ideally located deep in the rugged Far West of Cornwall, Hesken Cottage is aptly named after the well that used to run by the cottage. With views of Geevor Tin Mine, which was at one time at the heart of the Cornish mining industry and old mine shaft relics dotted along the coastline, you really feel among Cornwall’s rich history here.

The house itself offers a comfortable, homely retreat to escape to at the end of the day with plush interiors and plentiful amenities. Neutral shades of blue, grey and white make the cottage an invitingly calm space throughout and the ultimate escape from the pace of modern-day life.

LOCATION

Hesken Cottage is wonderfully located at the end of a private lane within a small village in the heart of the far west of Cornwall. The area around Pendeen is a really magical place, often referred to as ‘Poldark Country’, it is in many ways untouched by modern-day life with its tin mining relics and unspoiled coastline. If you’re looking for a walker’s paradise to explore off the beaten track then the comfort of this wonderful home is the perfect spot to do so.

From the doorstep you can see and walk straight to the outstanding Pendeen Lighthouse, historic Geevor mine, or peaceful Portheras Cove, a stunning locals beach. For surfers, hop in the car and you can be down on Sennen or Gwenver beaches, both a short drive away. You won’t be disappointed by the stretch of golden sands, dunes and crystal-clear water and popular surf break.

At the end of a day of beaching, head to one of the local pubs: The North Inn is lovely for a sundowner in the garden or good pub grub. Maria Chica’s is a small independent café serving up exceptional tapas style dishes and there’s Lil's Chippy for fish & chips.

The wonder of Pendeen is that you’re never far from some of Cornwall’s best bits - grab an ice cream from the Moomaids Café in St Just square only 10 minutes away, or dine out in St Ives in less than 30 minutes or spend the day on the magical St Michaels Mount.
