Enjoy this unique and tranquil getaway, where all you will hear is a cacophony of birdsong. Enjoy the 2 mile walking trail that meanders through the exquisite 60 acres of secluded woods and pristine prairie. Just a one minute walk away is a beautiful 1 acre pond with canoe. Overlooking a small, organic, sustainable hobby farm, it is located just 4 miles north of Fairfield Iowa, where Oprah visited and declared it to be "America's most unusual town". Your place to relax and recharge.
The property has an East entrance as does the house. You are first greeted with a view of the beautiful lotus pond which is in full bloom from June - August. The driveway takes you across the dam, around the garage and up the hill to the "cottage".
The cottage has an open layout for the living room, dining and kitchen. Hardwood floors throughout.
There are 3 bedrooms; the master with a queen bed and half bath, the second bedroom with another queen and the third bedroom has a double bed. The full bath is shared by all.
The brand new stackable washer and dryer works great, and the washer prefers less than more detergent.
Dine inside while watching deer and other wildlife through the six foot windows, or enjoy your morning coffee outside on the deck listening to the myriad of birds. We once had an ornithologist visit the property and she said she had never seen so many different types of birds in one location!
The kitchen has pretty much anything you need to make a decent meal, including blender, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, dishwasher, stove, refrigerator...
The living room has a smart TV, so please remember to bring your passwords for Netflix, Prime, Disney, Hulu... A small desk has a an ethernet cord for direct connection, and of course WIFI is available.
There is also a wood burning stove in the living room. This stove is actually a wood burning furnace which is extremely efficient and effective. Not really for casual fires or summertime use, it is intended as a heat source in fall and winter.
Outside there is a wooden sandbox with sand toys, and a very cool tree swing. In the back of the cottage is access to the 2 mile walking trail that meanders through forest and then opens onto an exquisite, private prairie. This property is really magnificent.

This is the smallest of 4 apartments in a beautifully restored, turn of the century home that was turned into apartments in the 1920s. Three huge sycamore trees surround the house. The fully fenced back yard is a nature retreat complete with pond and sometimes frogs. Large decks surround the back of the house with each tenant having their own share of deck and a BBQ. Everything has been thought of to make your stay as easy as being home but also special and different. This luxury loft apartment has french doors opening onto a large treetop level deck overlooking a garden with pond and stream. It is in the heart of downtown Fairfield, a block away from the grocery store and 5 blocks from the town square. I (the owner of this 4 apartment building) am an artist and I designed this apartment for myself. It is both wonderful and a bit eccentric. The space is entirely open. but there is a part of the loft that forms a second room that is quite private; both visually and aurally separate from the rest of the space. The deck on the back was large enough for many to gather around and socialize. We used the grill several times. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and large enough for many to help. Appliances were very efficient . The two large sinks were wonderful to space out prep. Plenty of serving dishes. The beds were comfortable. I didn’t hear any complaints. There is a porch screened in with a fire table. The 20 year olds enjoyed talking into the night there and not disturbing everyone sleep. Everyone enjoyed the basketball hoop. The kids enjoyed the play structure in the back. We had one issue with the internet and it was taken care of very quickly. The upstairs bedroom is set apart with its own bathroom. It had two rocking chairs. Wonderful place for the family with a new baby. The layout of the house severed our multi generational group well. Fairfield was not too far away. The Sauce Bbq was so yummy. We’d book again"

- "I used the room as a place to sleep- I was attending Old Threshers in Mount Pleasant. It was 1/2 hr drive, and this vrbo was extremely reasonable. Everything was clean and free from clutter. The bathroom was also clean and easily accessible. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful as well. The host was friendly and was very easy to communicate with as I was making reservations. LIVING - Our main floor great room is configured to comfortably accommodate a large number of people. The sitting areas in our spacious rooms have been outfitted with substantial furnishings in warm finishes. The placement creates relaxed groupings for conversation, lavishly furnished with elegant accents, and decorated as though it were your home. The great room features a remote controlled large screen tv with DISH network. Seasonal sport channels available upon request. The true charm of the lodge is in the little details.

The lower level has the perfect recreation area. An expansive rec room has comfortable seating with another large screen tv. A large table lends itself to cards or shuffle board. The space houses billiards, ping pong, pool, and foosball tables. There is room to spread out for other activities as well. When the weather is nice, the wrap around deck is a great place to congregate. We provide casual seating, tables for fresh air meals, and gas grills for your convenience. There are also picnic tables interspersed in the surrounding woods and any number of paths and trails that meander to a variety of scenic riverside views.

DINING - Our modern kitchen features electric appliances and many gadgets necessary to create meals for a sizable crowd, but is open to the great room so the cook isn’t isolated. The space features a formal dining area with seating for 10, as well as casual eating nooks. TV trays and tables are conveniently available for serving snacks.

SLEEPING - Three generous suites each feature two queen beds and each have a private en suite bath with his and her sinks and a spacious walk-in shower. Another suite features 3 sets of twin bunk beds to sleep six and has its own bath with walk- in shower. Laundry facilities are conveniently located with detergent / softener supplied. The lower level has a generous camp-style sleeping barrack furnished with nine twin beds, which is close to two restrooms with showers, perfect for a group of young people.

We want your visit to the lodge to be an exceptional experience. We offer a chance to escape from outside distractions with limited access to cell towers & satellites. Escape from the bustle and be our guest.

- "Went with 6 adults and 6 children. Each couple had their own room with private bathroom. The cousins all slept in the same room together, with bunk beds and their own bathroom. The family room was spacious and the basement offers a place for kids to go and play, giving the adults a chance to relax on their own. Basement offers pool, ping pong, foosball, an entertainment center and dining. The basement also walks out to a great patio with fire pit next to the woods. The deck out back was a wonderful place to grill and relax. The lodge itself could easily, and comfortably, house another 10 people. The lodge sits on 300 acres of wooded land and the topography is diverse and offers plenty of hiking and exploration. It used to be a church campground and many of the buildings remain. The grounds are very well maintained, and there was a fun little pond to take the fishing. The old barn is beautiful. If you are an outdoor family, this place is perfect. Having said that, the lodge has a great indoor space too. If one was inclined, there is river access for canoeing too. The folks running the facility and grounds are top notch. Whenever we needed something we called and they were right on it. They kept the garbage bins outside empty, they brang us ice, and they brought out dry firewood for the pit more than once. They were super friendly folks and gave the kids and adults a couple great tours of the grounds. Mt pleasant is only 20 min away, and makes getting your food for grilling, and whatever else you want easy to access. I plan on coming back, and would not hesitate recommending this tucked away gem to anybody."

The Artist’s Secret Garden
This luxuriously appointed mid century home opens onto a private deck and parklike garden. It feels like being in the country even though it is just a few blocks to the town square and similarly close to the university.
It has a large classic living room, dining room and bedroom and a small kitchen and bathroom. It has an outdoor living room on an ample deck opening onto a lovely garden and pond. The property is surrounded by trees and feels like being in the country even though it is only 5 blocks from the town square.
There is a couch that can be made into a bed for a child. On request we can add a blow up bed, for a fee.
This is one of 4 apartments in an old building and there is ample soundproofing but it is a poor choice for loud partying. Pleasant gatherings on the deck are encouraged.
The local grocery store is two blocks down an alley that feel like a country road. A truly tranquil retreat. You will be surrounded by a good people and a beauty
