Big thumbs up for how quiet it was not a lot of traffic noise not a lot of other guest noise. Bed was very comfortable tub had jets. We didn’t use the fireplace, but it was great that it was there for the really cool nights. The grounds were as advertised all in all this property is great for a short stay. I don’t know that I would choose it for someplace where I was going to be for a week, but not disappointed at all with what I found when I got there . "

I found a half eaten fried chicken leg under the side of the bed, (Don't know how that was missed in the cleaning of the room because it was big) There was a weird smell in the room from the cleaning products, I believe that they use, and the coffee maker overfilled the cup spilling everywhere. (Good thing there was a tray under it to catch all the overflow.) The shower curtain was not wide enough to fully close thus letting water out all over the bathroom floor. The lounge restaurant was closed for a high school reunion so that was back luck for me. On the positive the bed was probably the most comfortable bed i have ever slept in. Over all it was a nice stay and would defiantly go back again"

The rooms are beautiful and calm, the second-floor deck is perfect for a sunrise coffee or cheese and wine sunset snack. There is a small contained fireplace to warm the room when the fog rolls up the peninsula. The fresh breakfast is delicious, and the guest services were very kind and helpful. - "My wife, two daughters (4 and 2), and I recently spent 4 days at West Cliff Hideaway. Simply put, this place has charm, attention to detail, and most importantly, location. Just a five minute walk down a scenic greenbelt (Bethany Curve), and you find yourself overlooking the legendary Santa Cruz coast along West Cliff Boulevard, arguably one of the premier walking/biking paths in the entire state. In regards to the unit, it sits in a quiet residential neighborhood on the west side of Santa Cruz. One thing we were worried about in renting in Santa Cruz was the knowledge that many homes are rented to UCSC students, and we didn't really want to be next to a "party" house. (My wife went to UCSC, and is a Slug alumni). Have no fear with this concern, as West Cliff Hideaway is quietly secluded, tucked behind Robin and Bill's (the owners') main house, just up a set of stairs. With the exception of walking down the driveway past the main house, you would never know the main house is even there. The outside patio, just adjacent to the entrance door, was an added bonus. It was perfect for us to store our bikes and bike trailer, which we had brought along for biking along West Cliff. Bill even offered us a tarp, if needed, as the weather couldn't really make up its mind on drizzling or having the sun shine through. Bill even gave me a call on our second day, noticing the weather might not cooperate, and offered us some suggestions that could accommodate the weather. While we already had planned some alternatives, we much appreciated the recommendations. We ended up biking down to Natural Bridges (from the Hideaway) on the first day to check out the tide pools with our girls. Past Natural Bridges there is also a great bike path that leads all the way over to Wilder Ranch, which is one of the premier mountain biking meccas in all of California. The following day we headed over to Roaring Camp Railroad in Felton for a ride on the vintage steam train, and a quick stop by the Bigfoot Museum. We also managed to squeeze in some hiking in the Pogonip Reserve, a quick stop by UCSC, a tad a of shopping in downtown, and obviously some excellent eating in the myriad of restaurants Santa Cruz has to offer. Without hesitation, I would recommend West Cliff Hideaway. Given the location, seclusion, amenities, and price, especially compared to other local hotels, do yourself and favor and experience the comfort and Santa Cruz vibe this Hideaway has to offer."

This is one of 2 master wings in a beautiful hand-built home on a 5-acre apple orchard. We are 4 miles from the ocean, but the last mile is our driveway, so there is a real sense of seclusion. We built the house with another couple, so the house has 2 private master wings. Our partners moved to be closer to their grandchildren, so their wing is now available.

The master bedroom is quite large. It has a king size bed and a couch that becomes a queen size bed. Separating the beds is a gas fireplace. The 2nd bedroom has a double bed and a large built-in desk. In the same space, but separated by a room divider, there is a partial kitchen, including an under-counter refrigerator, microwave, induction burner, toaster, and kitchenware.

The enormous bathroom is shared by the bedrooms. It has a double vanity, a private toilet room, a 6 foot by 6 foot walk-in shower and an over-size bath tub.

The bathroom and the 2nd bedroom open onto a private deck. There is a gravenstein apple tree over-hanging one end of the deck. If you come stay before mid-August, you can pick fresh apples from the deck!

This stylish, adorable, lovingly-maintained, Westside home is located in a central yet peaceful neighborhood. Ideally located on the corner of Bay & Lighthouse, it’s a short walk to: Cowell’s Beach, Steamer Lane, the lively Municipal Pier and the ever-entertaining Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Take one of our beach cruisers for a short bike ride Downtown, to Mission Street, New Leaf market, the Harbor and beyond. You'll never need to get into your car.

Our well-appointed, but simple home includes an outdoor area that feels very much like part of the home. For a small house, the two bedrooms, loft, kitchen and living room are all quite spacious with loads of natural light. The sunny kitchen is great for entertaining and is outfitted with new appliances, good knives, and stocked with basic supplies like olive oil and spices. The master bedroom has a wonderful King bed, and TV. The second bedroom has a double bed. The loft has a fold-out Queen bed and TV. The living area has comfortable seating and a desk with an iMac.

If it’s exercise you desire, you can clear your head with a 5-mile run on the gorgeous sea wall, winding along the secluded beaches and rocky outcroppings. Stroll out to West Cliff, where the world-class surf ranges from beginner to pro. I have a cat named Lala....she is a free range kitty....mostly outdoors but inside at night. Very friendly but independent like most cats. She does her bathroom duties outside so there is no litter box and no smell in the house. She is a short hair 'tabby' and I vacumn regularly so even people with cat allergies have not had any real problems so far.

This is a downstairs unit with a private entrance. There is one designated parking spot. The house is 1.5 flights of stairs up from the parking area. Inside there is a living area with a kitchenette, large bathroom and a bedroom. A shared laundry area is accessed through a door you can lock. Kitchen adventures are limited to what you can do with a portable induction cooktop, a microwave and a toaster oven. Other appliances may be available upon request. There is also a private outdoor patio for lounging and dining with a BBQ.

Guests will have the entire lower unit and the outdoor patio area to themselves. The small parking area is shared, but guests have a designated parking spot (trucks might be a tight fit; no long beds) and the staircase to/from the parking area is used by both the host and guest.

There are two cats and 15 chickens on the property (but no Roosters, thank goodness!). Cats are exclusively indoors and upstairs. Interaction with the chickens is voluntary. ; ) In the morning, laying hens can often be heard. The hens love kitchen scraps and in spring/summer we often have eggs to share!

The apartment is a fully furnished downstairs unit complete with living room, kitchen, full bath, laundry, and bedroom with a large closet and queen bed. The second bedroom is detached from the main unit and comes with a desk, Wi-Fi extender and a queen bed. Outside you will find a private yard with a lawn, patio, outdoor table with chairs and a shared hot tub/raised deck area. Please be advised that our rental is nestled in the heart of the redwoods which means it can be common for small bugs to find their way inside even with our best efforts at maintaining the highest level of cleanliness and maintenance.

The Redwood Retreat is accessible by car. For the last road on the drive, it is a one lane, two way road. It's steep at times, but this part of the drive is only around one minute.

Please note that while the apartment is private, there are people who live above. We have taken steps to reduce noice through sound proofing, but there's a possibility you could hear the folks above.

Once you park there are exterior stairs to then get to the front entrance of the apartment.
