- "We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Balsam Resort and plan to go back! Our room was on the second floor of the main (old) building and had a terrace with a beautiful view of the lake. The terrace faced away from all the cottages and was wonderfully quiet and private. The room was a little shabby but was clean and had a well-equipped kitchen with everything we needed for a long weekend stay. The beach was steps away with plenty of lounge chairs and picnic tables and lots of room to relax in the shade when the sun gets too hot. Our Canada Day long weekend visit included a performance by a live band (!) and a terrific fireworks display. I would totally recommend this place to anyone looking for a getaway within 2 hours of the city - and no Hwy 400 traffic!"

Michael was a terrific host and gave excellent directions for the final portion of getting to the cottage. The cottage was much larger than expected. Lots of bathrooms and enough beds to sleep six comfortably. Lots of extra goodies left if wanted. Beautiful lake and mostly peaceful but it is the time of year for cleanup for winter so some activity. Met Michael and his son and his lively dog who had a stare off with our cat. Our cat won that and loved being outdoors and walking along the edge looking into the water. Was her first experience at a cottage. Internet reception was great also. One suggestion would be to make sure to only come during daylight hours as a bit tricky on the twisting gravel roads and easy to get turned around. Used Google maps on phone and it was spot on to find the cottage. Would definitely book it again. One other suggestion would be to put something under the mattresses to add a bit more support. Otherwise the amenities in the cottage and outside lacked for nothing."

During winter months the area and property get significant snow falls. We cannot guarantee that the driveway will be freshly plowed.

The kitchen flows seamlessly into the living room which showcases a leather couch, two chairs, two bar stools and 65' Apple TV.

5. No additional guests on the property unless pre-arranged and approved by hosts. Additional guests will result in a $100 fee per guest, per day.

6. Check-in and check-out times are firm unless alternative arrangements have been previously arranged. $50/hour fee for late check-outs will be applied otherwise.

7. If any property is damaged, lost or stolen, guests will be charged for replacement.

Please note this cabin is COMPLETELY OFF GRID. NO RUNNING WATER, NO SHOWER. Endless potable water is provided for cooking and drinking. Generator and battery powered lanterns throughout the cabin for light at night. Pretty outside outhouse (bathroom) steps from cabin.

You will arrive at the main house and will need to be escorted down a 1/2 km trail (accessible by car May-Nov) behind the house to your lakeside cabin. A quick review of all the cabin amenities and how to use them (sometimes off grid can be intimidating but rest assured you will feel comfortable with it when we leave you!) will be provided by the owners and any questions answered.

PLEASE NOTE: NOV-MAY car access may not be possible if you do not have snow tires AND all wheel drive. In these cases, we leave your vehicle at the main house and transport you and your gear to the cabin by 4x4. You are always also welcome to hike in should you prefer.

There is a woodstove in the cabin (your heat source) and wood is provided for that.

Check in is any time after 3pm.

We kindly ask that you give us a heads up as to your estimated time of arrival so we can be here to meet you at the main house and guide you down the back path to the cabin.

If you're up for shopping we are 5 minutes walking distance to downtown. The Oasis suite does not include use of the main house or the pool area.
Our portable and window Air conditioning units are installed every year on June 10th.

• Please use the 3 large bins in the front - Blue bin: recycle items - Green bin: Organics, food - Black bin: non recycle and non-organics. Please check the garbage collection schedule online and remember to leave the bins in front for collection by the city on the designated days.
• Please do not move the appliances’ plugs including toaster, kettle and etc, please leave them plugged where they are as you check-in.
• No parties or events allowed.

• Please operate the Laundry only after 7:00 Pm and before 11:00 Pm during the weekdays and all hours of the weekend. This will allow saving energy during the peak load and help having a greener environment.

The property is a single-floor setup with one large bedroom, one small bedroom, and then the kitchen/living/dining areas are all open so it feels roomy and comfortable. Lots of natural light all day. The neighbourhood is charming and quiet with friendly neighbours (if you have a dog you'll make lots of friends). The beautiful Trans Canada Trail is a short walk away. Downtown is a 5 minute drive. This is an off-grid solar-powered cottage with an automatic backup generator providing more power than you will need. The kitchen stove and fridge run on propane. The interior features an open kitchen, living and eating area with a cathedral ceiling, and two lofts looking down to the living area.

A covered deck looks out to the lake and beautiful Canadian Shield landscape as well as the dock and swimming area. There is approx. 1800 feet of shoreline on this 2-acre lot and the lot is mainly natural vegetation with granite outcrops.

This a lovely place to go for a canoe ride or enjoy the beauty of nature in this classic cottage landscape.

Note from Cottage Owner/Architect:
Drive off the main road, surrounded by Crown land, and deeper into the forest you enter a granite peninsula containing 2 acres of forest and surrounded on all sides by water; effectively dividing the lake into a smaller deep lake and a larger shallow lake. The built solution called for a cottage that enjoys water, rock, forest, sky, sun, and rain. Nestled in the forest and perched overlooking the granite slope into the lake; this cottage provides a different view and experience to be enjoyed from all sides with a cozy centralized space that provides visual enjoyment of the secluded surroundings. The cottage is built on a heated slab on grade providing all the comforts of home with 2 bedrooms on the main floor at one end and the open kitchen on the other end. Additionally, 2 loft spaces look down from the high ceiling above for additional space and a sense of grandeur and airiness. The plan is centralized around family activity in the main space and open to the kitchen. The property is completely off-grid making use of solar panels for electricity and propane for heat. The spine of the building lines up with the length of the peninsula and large dormers are placed on the roof oriented to the solar south to maximize solar gain. Additionally, these dormers allow natural light into the lofted spaces and create an eccentric volume in the roof which translates into some interesting visual effects of space and light.

Bright, clean, quiet, private walkout basement studio with full kitchen and bathroom, pullout sofa for sleeping. Conveniently located north of downtown Peterborough close to Catharine Parr Traill College campus of Trent University and beside a recreational trail; walking distance to the river, downtown's bus station, grocery shopping. The space
The guest suite is located in the lower level of the house, a walkout basement with a separate entrance through the patio door in the back yard. There is an outdoor walkway along the side of the house with 10 steps down to the back yard.

The main part of the guest suite is behind the rest of the house with nothing above it; there are two steps up to the guest bathroom which is located below the first floor of the house. The ceiling height is approximately 6'7" throughout most of the space, and 6' in the shower.

Guests may be sharing the back yard and patio area with the host for use as a meeting place while observing physical distancing measures. Patio furniture is typically available to guests in the summer months (June through September).

This beautiful large room is located in a house that is approximately 3000 square feet. We have modern but minimalist furniture to make the place very open and also very clean. We take great pride in having a spotless living environment. This room comes with a shared bathroom, its large, spacious and comes with a tub and shower, sink and toilet. We provide fresh towels to our guest at request.

This room has a Double Bed. good for two people.
