The Artist's Beach House is situated on the Antigonish Harbour just ten minutes from the lovely university town of Antigonish This private and quiet retreat feels like it’s worlds away. The house is surrounded by water – and 6 acres of land. The beach goes on forever and is nicely secluded – swimming is excellent in the warmest waters north of the Carolina's. So is canoeing and kayaking on the harbour where there’s so much to discover. The grounds are spectacular with gardens everywhere. In season, the best lobster in the world can be had fresh off the boats nearby.

This architect designed house is ideal for entertaining with wrap around decks and porches complete with ample outdoor eating areas. We have a wheel chair ramp (available on request) on the back deck which makes the whole first floor with two bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms accessible. Indoors you’ll be greeted with warm cherry wood throughout, walls full of original contemporary art, oriental rugs on the floors and sumptuous furnishings everywhere. All the amenities are there to pamper you during your stay. When the nights are cool there’s nothing better than curling up in front of one of two fireplaces with a good book or movie. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, colourful and artistic.

We can make the office available upon request, for those who will need to do some work during their stay. It's a private room with desks and a printer plus a good library.

Overall it's a rare and special property with many features such as private trails throughout the woods, a firepit at the beach and lovely gardens. All of our guests tell us that the photos don’t do it justice. It truly is a beautiful place!

- "This property is beautiful, relaxing, and quiet. There are extensive lawns and a long stretch of private rocky beach with many shorebirds. The house itself is large, with four enclosed bedrooms and one living area downstairs that can be converted to sleeping space. As described, the house is home to an artist, who lives next door to the property during the summertime. There are many works of art and items of unique character throughout the house. There were extensive instructions in the welcome binder regarding cleaning, using the dishwasher and washing machine, recycling regulations, and conserving water in the event that the hand-dug well begins to go dry during a hot summer. (As this was a wet summer, we had no issues with water during our stay.) It is important to carefully read the detailed instructions and to adhere to them, as additional fees or charges may apply if the instructions are disregarded. The house was well-stocked with dishes and cookware, toilet paper, paper towels, pantry items, and hand soap. The heat pump that provided cool air on humid days was much appreciated. There is ample seating, and linens and towels are provided. If we could suggest one thing it would be to add a clothesline for bathing suits and towels, or for more eco-friendly drying of clothing. Our interactions with our host were positive and friendly and she was quick to welcome us to the property."

We are 15 minutes from the town of Antigonish, where you will find St. Francis Xavier University, well-stocked stores, and an assortment of restaurants..

For those seeking more beach time, you will find several beaches close by: rugged Dunn's Beach (30 min walk), 2 miles of sandy beach at Pomquet Provincial Park (10 minute drive), Mahoney's Beach (30 min).

Keppoch Mountain, a recreational site for biking, hiking, disc golf, and winter sports is 25 minutes away.

We are located 10 minutes off the Trans Canada Highway, making it a perfect spot to take a rest on the way to Cape Breton or the Newfoundland Ferry.

Lobster season here is May and June. The wharf is just down the road.

If you want to sit even closer to the water, head down to the cottage's own wharf and make yourself comfortable on one of the typical Canadian wooden chairs. In the mood for some exercise? At the boathouse you will find a canoe, two single kayaks, a double kayak and life jackets.
Afterwards, treat yourself to something tasty from the grill. This is located on the upper floor in a so-called "Screenporch". This is a covered outdoor area, which was completely sealed with mosquito netting, so that you have -even after sunset- peace from small pests.

The weather doesn't play along or it's just too cold to stay outside longer?
An outside staircase leads to the main entrance of the house. After taking off your shoes and jackets, you'll enter a great room, which features a fully equipped kitchen, a spacious dining area with seating for 6, and a cozy living room.
Light the fireplace and enjoy the quick and cozy warmth, as well as the fantastic view through the large panoramic windows.
Behind the living/dining area are two bedrooms (a master bedroom and a room with two single beds) and a bathroom with shower tub.
As part of the modernization work, the master bedroom received a new king-size bed and a new mattress.

Via a staircase at the kitchen you reach the ground floor. There you first enter our lovingly named "cinema room". If you don't like the smaller TV set in the living room, you will find it here; a huge TV and a surround system provide real movie enjoyment; a leather couch for coziness.
Furthermore, the third bedroom with a queen-size bed and new mattress and another bathroom with shower are located on this floor.
A washer and dryer are also available for use on the ground floor.
You are still not really warm? Then use the sauna, also on the ground floor of the house. Also in the sauna and the adjoining small relaxation room, the views of the estuary through the built-in panoramic windows are a delight.

The house, built in 2006, is situated in a secluded location in the middle of nature and yet so central that you can reach the nearest town of Antigonish in 10-15 minutes by car.

Our property is surrounded by 24 acres of beautiful lawn that is right on the ocean. Your front door is less then two minutes walk to the beach.

Guests are welcome to invite friends (max of 4 at a time), however due to our use of a well we cannot accommodate more then six people staying or using the facilities.

We provide extra bath towels, extra linens for a mid-week change (if requested). Lawn chairs to take to the beach, as well as large beach towels.

We provide coffee, tea and condiments. We have a full kitchen including all the dishes, pots and silverware. Kayaks are available (at your own risk) and there are large closets in each bedroom with hangers.

The house has two bedrooms, a large bathroom, a fully appointed kitchen and a small living room.

One bedroom has a queen and a single bed. The other bedroom has a double bed that sleeps two people. It sleep five adults comfortably. There is a queen pull out sofa bed in the small living room that sleeps 2 more people, but the pull out sofa restricts the space.

The home is winterized and available year round. It is close to several beaches and is located along a scenic coastal drive on the Sunrise Trail. You may see rabbits and deer as it is surrounded by forest. There is a picnic table and a bbq to dine outside. It has a large wooden back deck. A beautiful ocean beach and waterfall are 2km away. It is a short drive to the Arisaig beach and lighthouse.

The cottage has a dishwasher, a clothes washer and dryer, outside calling via Skype calling, a smart television with Netflix and excellent wifi.

It is self check in so guests can arrive at their leisure.

- "We liked the grounds. They were private, surrounded by trees. Adirondack chairs surrounding the fire pit were nice. The cottage was well-stocked with the basics (condiments, coffee, etc.). Communications from the property manager were complete, leaving us no surprises. All four of us thought that the cottage was good for our needs. A suggestion for an easy improvement would be more available closet space. There were adequate closets, but they were nearly full of items that probably belonged to the owner, something that wouldn't be expected for a rental property. We appreciated having a clothes washer and dryer. The washer was tricky to operate, but instructions were clear. It would also help to replace the outside steps to the cottage entrance. They were deteriorating."

- "The house is, technically, as described but there are a few design issues that made it hard to use. The ladder, which is needed to access the loft, blocks the bathroom door. So if you have it in place for climbing, it has to be moved to open the loo door, then moved back to climb back up again.
