Belmont House, built in 1820 is located in scenic West Cork. This lovingly restored exclusive country house in Innishannon is a dream. Belmont House sits overlooking the River Bandon that flows from West Cork to Kinsale Harbour. This historic house is full of originality with windows that showcase gothic revival character. Outside, there is a spacious garden with Irish wild flowers and hedgerows that are overlooked by a spectacular 300 year old cedar tree.

Belmont House can accommodate up to 10 guests. There are five bedrooms and five bathrooms that comprise of:

A Master Suite with a king bed, walk in wardrobe and dressing table that open into an ensuite bathroom which includes a bathtub.

The second bedroom has a four poster king bed.

The third bedroom has a super king bed and is ensuite.

HEATING - The two upper floors are heated by cast iron rads from a biomass woodchip boiler. There are thermostats throughout the house so you can control the temperature during your stay. The basement has underfloor heating throughout. There are two stoves in the house and logs are provided.

The house is split over three levels. The entrance hall, dining room, drawing room, kitchen and one bedroom are on the first floor. The master suite and the main bathroom are a level below and in the basement are the remaining three bedrooms, gym and utility room.

LOCATION - Innishannon village is the perfect location to stay and explore the best that Cork has to offer. It is the gateway to West Cork and we are 15 minutes from Kinsale, 20 minutes from Cork Airport and 30 minutes from Cork City or Blarney.

Unfortunately as situated near a working farm and due to safety reasons, Belmont House is unsuitable for children under 9 years of age.

The Old mill was brought back to life by the explorer and writer Tim Severin in 1990. He lived in Lodge 1 for many years and wrote numerous novels from his office across the way. It offers simple living with the Irish warmth of a woodburning stove, a perfect place to share a drink with friends or observe the wildlife in the meander down by the river.

For those who like to fish, you have direct access to the Argideen River, rated one of the best sea trout rivers in south-west Ireland, a great place to test your skill with a fly. Licenses for the river can be provided as well as details for national licenses to cover your stay.

The Wild Atlantic Way can be reached in a couple of minutes with a trip into Timoleague and it's famous Abbey, from there you can visit some of Irelands spectacular beaches or soak up some live music in Cloakilty or Kinsale.

All the living areas are downstairs and lend themselves to gathering collectively or taking time away depending on your needs. The main drawing room features gorgeous high ceilings, sweeping full length drapes and has cosy deep pile carpet underfoot. It is a lovely place to gather together in the evening around the wood burning stove.

The dining room is an extension of the drawing room and houses a magnificent dining table and upholstered chairs fit to host a banquet.The cosy open fire really lends itself to intimate gatherings over a good meal. We can arrange for an excellent private chef to come in and cook for you or to deliver dishes directly to you during your stay. What a fitting way to celebrate a special birthday or simply just delight in spending precious time together with loved ones and friends.

Doors from the dining room lead through to the library area. This is a lovely little space to read a book or your newspaper or to watch the news on the TV in peace beside an open fire. The kitchen is spacious and well designed and has everything you will need during your stay. The dining table is perfect for a relaxed breakfast and the aga exudes warmth and homeliness. Our home is located in downtown Bandon, the gateway to West Cork. Just a short 5 minute walk to all amenities such as shopping, restaurants and bars. Bandon is only a 15 min drive to Kinsale, Clonakilty and to Harbour View Beach and Timoleague on the Wild Atlantic Way. Cork City and Airport are only a 25 minute drive away and public transport links are very regular to Cork City and all surrounding towns. There is no better centrally located accommodation than here to explore the county of Cork.

This is a home that invites you to kick back and relax in a period house with all the old-fashioned luxuries modernised for up to date family living.

No matter the season, The Retreat holds enormous appeal. With the Spring comes the re-awakening of the wonderful gardens in vibrant hues. The Summer holds countless opportunities for outdoor living with terrace dining options, a game of croquet on the lawn or simply to find a small little nook in the garden to relax and soak up some sun while enjoying a good book. Ideal for families, the gardens are a delight to explore and there is plenty of space to kick a ball.

Driving up to the house from the electric security gates, you will be treated to an unfolding view of the front of the house through glimpses between the gaps in the impressive tree-lined driveway. The Retreat is a traditional country house which was once home to the Duchess of Westminster! There is ample space for parking for a number of cars.

Steps lead to the front door which invite you in the impressive hallway with an eclectic mix of old and new and giving an immediate sense of the warmth, peace, hospitality and fun that awaits you in the beautiful home.

All the living areas are downstairs and lend themselves to gathering collectively or taking time away. The main drawing room features gorgeous high ceilings and sweeping full length drapes. It is a lovely place to gather together in the evening around the wood burning stove.

The dining room is an extension of the drawing room and houses a magnificent dining table and upholstered chairs fit to host a banquet. You can arrange for an excellent private chef to come in and cook for you or to deliver dishes directly to you during your stay. A perfect way to celebrate a special birthday or simply just delight in spending precious time together with loved ones and friends.

Doors from the dining room lead through to the library area. This is a lovely little space to read a book or your newspaper or to watch the news on the TV in peace beside an open fire. Perfect if you feel you need a little bit of peace and quiet.

There is also a second sitting room with a cosy wood burning stove and TV. Ideal as a break out room for the youngsters. Tucked into the corner is a lovely piano – perfect for a late night sing-song after dinner!

The kitchen is spacious and well designed. It is a proper functioning kitchen with an aga, which has catered to the needs of the owner’s family for years so it has everything you will need during your stay. The dining table is perfect for a relaxed breakfast.

The utility room is almost like a second kitchen as it has a full electric over and hob, the fridge/ freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher. There is also a guest toilet downstairs.

In all, The Retreat can welcome up to 12 guests in six bedrooms and the impressive sweeping staircase will bring you up to them. The master bedroom is to the front of the house and overlooks the wonderful gardens below. It has a king sized bed which can be made into two single beds if required. This bedroom is ensuite.

Next door is another king sized bedroom which can also be made up as two single beds. This bedroom has a bathroom attached which it shares with the twin bedroom next door. This is ideal as a family suite.

There is another bedroom with a king sized bed and a bathroom attached and the fifth bedroom is a zip’n link so can be made up as one large king bed or two singles, depending on your requirements. Again, there is a bathroom for this bedroom.

ENERGY CHARGES - The heating and hot water are set to come on for two hours each morning and two hours evening which should be more than sufficient for your needs. Should you require additional heating then you will be charged according to the number of units used for both electricity and gas based on the most recent utility bills. This will be payable on departure

FIRES/ WOOD BURNING STOVES - Should you wish, we can arrange for the fires and wood burning stoves to be set and lit for you each morning to ensure the house is always at its cosiest. Please note that an extra onsite charge will apply for this additional service.
