Located 300m outside Whitegate Village, this self-catering property is situated on a large garden the shores of Cregg Lake, a small yet tranquil lake that is ideal for fishing or simply for watching the beautiful sunset each evening on the lake. The lake is home to swans and ducks, and sometimes early morning or evening a family of deer can be spotted by the waters edge. The village itself is 500m away where you will find shops and the local pub and restaurant.
Lough Derg, Irelands second largest lake is just 3 miles away and is popular for both fishing, sailing and cruisers. Boats can be rented to take out on the lake or you can avail of boat tours to places such as such as the Monastic settlement of Holy Island. You can be back on the Wild Atlantic Way within one hour and drive through the Burren which is famous for its beautiful limestone landscapes. Located at the Southwestern edge of the Burren and running for 14km are the famous Cliffs of Moher. A 10 minute drive away is the lovely Georgian market town of Nenagh, with bars, coffee shops, boutiques, restaurants, cinema and a farmers market. Also, a Norman castle, a heritage and genealogy centre to search for your ancestors.

In the surrounding area, there are many wonderful "way-marked" loop trails for walking and biking. Search irishtrails ie , location - Tipperary and look the Nenagh area

There are other outdoor activities, such as horse riding, a mountain bike forest, the stunning Lough Derg for Fishing, sailing, various other watersports, golf, tennis, and lots more. The golden sandy beach of Kilkee is a 1.30 hour drive, which also has a dive centre and the best diving in Ireland.

History of Castle on the grounds of Stormont House: Built on a rocky outcrop overlooking a bend in the river the castle was much prized for its strategic location. The all-powerful O’Briens of Thomond laid claim to the place and took up residence there for a few centuries.

During the sieges of Limerick in 1690/91 it drew the attention of William of Orange and his lieutenant-general, Godert de Ginkel. The ‘grim Dutch gunner’ trained his ordnance on the castle destroying it. The ruins are just inside the gate of Stormont while behind the house is an area of old woodland.

This is a beautiful single storey period house on the banks of the River Shannon. It has strong links to the O'Brien chieftains, being built by the son of the Young Ireland Leader, William Smith O'Brien, himself a direct descendant of Brian Boru, the High King of Ireland and passed on down through his direct family line since.
Apart from the significant history associated with this house, it is a unique architectural gem, built by the eccentric Donough O'Brien and has inspired famous artists from the O'Brien family, such as Dermot O'Brien whose art dominates the National Gallery, Cicely O'Brien and Geraldine O'Brien who painted from her studio in the house.
The House is sandwiched between the tail race from the Ardnacrusher Power Station and the River Shannon, and is protected from sight of Limerick City Centre - less than 1 mile away - by St Thomas's Island. It is possible to walk to the point where the two water courses meet and picnic. We are also within walking distance of Thomond Park Stadium, (30 minutes). Fishing is also available on the River Shannon, where Salmon, Trout and Pike are popular catches.
St Patrick's is a de-consecrated Church of Ireland church that served the Parteen community until the 1950s. It was sold to the O'Briens in the 1990s and is under renovation.
The gardens and grounds are currently being renovated. The house was neglected for a while and work is underway to restore the estate to its former splendour.

It is a town house situated in a small residential area off the main road, that overlooks the lake. It is an upside down house with the bedrooms downstairs and the living room and kitchen upstairs. It has a balcony upstairs off the living room that you can sit out on while enjoying your morning coffee and the stunning views.

Guests are welcome to come upstairs until 11 each day. Tea and instant coffee will be available.
If I am not using the space in the afternoon or evening then guests are welcome to sit upstairs to enjoy the views, read a book etc.
