The Patillo Home, built around 1846 and used primarily for rental property, was named after Trenton A. Patillo, a pioneer lawyer, county judge, and co-founder of the Texas Republican. According to early deed and probate records, the site of the Patillo House was part of the Richardson Addition, one of the oldest sections of Marshall, and owned by Mrs. Lavenia Richardson.
Colonial William S. Richardson came from Alabama to Bastrop County, Texas in 1840, and then moved to Marshall with his family in 1842. After he died in 1850, Col. Richardson left his wife Lavenia with one grown son and four daughters. In 1859, when she was unable to secure sufficient funds to meet the bond requirements for the guardianship of her minor children, Trenton A. Patillo was appointed by the Country Court as guardian of the estates of Frances A. and Emily V. Richardson. Eventually Lavenia had to mortgage her homestead and other properties to Mr. Patillo, although she never lost the title to the original 5 acre purchased two of the lots between North Washington Avenue and the Marshall Cemetery on April 18, 1877, from their mother's estate. The Patillo House occupies the south half of this property, while a frame house of identical design occupies the north half. But according to public records, the sisters lived in neither of these houses. After the death of her sister, Mrs. Sanders moved to El Paso and sold her home and the remaining lots of the original 5 acre plot. Although a complete abstract exists on Outlot 27, N-E, it does not show conclusively whether the Patillo House was built by the Richardson sisters or by the subsequent owner, William Hugh Lane. William Hugh Lane, from an Irish immigrant family, came to Harrison County where he established a law practice with Isaac Van Zandt and Judge William B. Ochiltree. According to Deed Records, William Lane purchased the property from J.E. Davis. (Harrison County Deed Records, Vol. 49, Pg. 44, filed May 17, 1902). The Patillo house represents the change that took place in the neighborhood adjacent to the railroad yards after the construction of the Texas and Pacific shops in the early 1970's. In 1963, Commander Hobart Key, Jr USNR acquired all of Out-lot 27 from Bertha Davis, the widowed wife of J.E. Davis. (Harrison County Deed Records, Vol. 587, Pg. 86, filed June 18, 1963.) The Patillo House is the third Texas Medallion structure to be preserved by Mr. Key, who also owned the Ginocchio Hotel and the Key Log Cabin. The Key family came to East Texas in the 1840's, thirty-seven years after their relative Francis Scott Key, wrote the "Star-Spangled Banner." When Mr. Key purchased the Patillo Home he restored it to its original state. The home staid in the Key family until Thomas Fisher Key and Richard Garrett Key sold it to Wayne and Michelle Fontenot in 2000. (Harrison County Deed Records, Vol. 2146, Pg. 43, filed September 22, 2000.)The Fontenots sold the structure to the current owners Lee H. Hardy Jr. and his wife Carolyn H. in 2003. (Harrison County Deed Records, Vol. 2604, Pg. 139, filed April 14, 2003). It is interesting to note that when the Patillo Home was built, very few people in Marshall lived in brick homes. As late as 1894, it was the only brick residence on North Bolivar Street, according to the Sanborn-Perris Insurance Maps.

Book this entire house for your next trip to Marshall. You will find that this homey 3-bedroom 1.5 bath place was designed with your comfort in mind. We tried to provide all the necessities as well as a few luxuries for your enjoyment. And if you need anything, Marshall is so small you can get almost anywhere in town within 10-15 minutes. Welcome to the Piney Woods.

This is my 2-story brick house. You will find that the lower level houses the living and dining rooms, sitting room, half-bath, full kitchen and laundry/office. It is easy to get a good night's rest upstairs as the upper level has three comfortably furnished bedrooms. Choose from two queen-sized beds and one king-sized bed. For additional sleeping space, the couch pulls out into a full bed. Featuring hardwood floors throughout, the home has separate thermostats for the living areas downstairs and the sleeping areas upstairs. The upstairs thermostat is located in the largest bedroom adjacent to the full bathroom. The downstairs thermostat is located in the living room, just adjacent to the bookshelf.

For your convenience we have provided High speed wifi, Smart TVs in each bedroom and the living area, a full-sized washer and dryer and stainless steel kitchen appliances. Kitchenware, towels, sheets, bathroom, paper towels, detergent, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel are all provided for you.

There is off-road parking for two vehicles. Additional cars can park on the road. You have access to the entire house, with the exception of the garage which we are using for storage. We provide a hair dryer and iron, and a built-in ironing board is ingeniously stored in a laundry closet that is original to the home.

While you are here, this is your home. I will not be on the premises, however I am available by cellphone. Should you need anything, please do not hesitate to call me. My home is located in a peaceful residential neighborhood with mature trees and quaint homes. The neighbors will be happy to meet you and get to know you. Like in many small towns, Marshall residents are hospitable and kind once they get to know you. Introduce yourself and you might get invited in for a cup of coffee or a soda.

Although there are no sidewalks, the streets are not busy, so neighbors take leisurely walks quite commonly. On a nice afternoon, it is not surprising to see several families walking or riding bikes through the streets. You will need a car in Marshall, as there is not a great public transit system. Cycling as a form of transportation may not be very safe, as there are no bike lanes. And I love walking in the neighborhood, both because there is little traffic, and also because you may run in to some of our friendly neighbors. There are several options for getting to Marshall. The Amtrak train has a depot in Marshall, located at 800 North Washington St. This information is accurate when I last checked, but you should verify times and prices when you plan your trip. As of the time I am writing, the train is scheduled to depart towards Longview and Dallas once everyday at 7:50AM. The fare to Dallas is $25 one way and takes approximately 3hrs and 40 minutes. The return trip is scheduled to leave Dallas' Union station at 3:40 PM daily and arrive in Marshall at 7:01PM. It is also possible to get to Marshall by Greyhound bus once daily. It is located at 304 Interstate Hwy 20 E. If you wish to fly to Marshall, you can take a convenient flight to Longview (GGG) or Tyler (TYR), TX or to Shreveport (SHV), LA. These regional airports are about 30 -50 minutes away, with Longview being closest. The last time I checked, American, Delta, Allegiant and United Airlines flew to Shreveport. Only American airlines flies to Tyler. And it appears that American is also the most popular airline to Longview. The local hospital is within 7 minutes walking distance. The local courthouse and square are within 15 minutes walk or 5 minutes drive. Wiley College, East Texas Baptist University and Texas Community College are all a short drive away.
Caddo Lake State Park and other state parks are less than an hour away, and afford a wonderful day trip for boating, fishing, hiking, or just relaxing in the Piney Woods. In the Christmas season, enjoy the iconic Wonderland of Lights festival, complete with Santa's workshop, Ice Skating, Clydesdale Horses, festive music and of course, the dazzling Christmas Lights. Remember all of the bedrooms are upstairs, so if you have mobility issues, this needs to be kept in mind.

We have taken the extra step of ensuring that our Clean Team disinfects all frequenty touched surfaces, including doornobs, light switches, and handles. And all hard surfaces are also deep cleaned to kill 99.9% of germs. Our home is professionally cleaned and disinfected after each guest checks out, so you can rest assured that every effort has been made to assure safety.

Vanessa also went above and beyond with a request I had made involving the TV (I was trying to purchase a pay-per-view event), although when I called her she was unable to help, she would later call me to let me know she found a solution and I was able to enjoy the event in time. Her efforts to help her guest really enjoy their stays and provide beyond what is expected is commendable and makes her a great host! I would definitely recommend a stay here and will be looking forward to staying here in my future visits to Marshall!"

Beautiful home nestled in the heart of Marshall. Close to downtown federal courthouse, ETBU, Christus Hospital and only 20 minutes to Jefferson. Cozy, pet friendly 3 bedroom, 2 bath is perfect for a family getaway or a business trip. Wifi is provided and printer with dedicated workspace and a minimal amount of office supplies. Home has two covered porches to relax and enjoy the breezy mornings and evenings. Fenced in back yard for your fur babies. Roku television in living room. Kitchen has pots, pans, dishes and coffee is provided for the Keurig. If you would like creamer just request it when you book and it will be waiting for you when you arrive.
