A private and fully stocked pond can be seen from the balcony and is a few yards or a short walk from the lodge. There is a canoe on the property , you may enjoy time with your family fishing and riding a canoe. At night you may enjoy having a bonfire, making s'mores, and relaxing with your friends and family. There are numerous activities like ping-pong, volleyball, hiking and biking. Fun activities for all age groups! Railroad trips are offered by Texas State Railroad in Palestine all year round and about 20 minutes from lodge.

The private stocked lake doesn't require a fishing license and has an available fishing pier and mini-pontoon peddle boat with trolling motor. We even have basic fishing gear in case you'd like to try your hand at catching "the big one". There is a 1 1/2 acre fruit orchard with fig, peach and persimmon trees as well as blackberries, blueberries and raspberries you are welcome to sample if you are staying during fruiting season.

We are not the usual Bed and Breakfast in a Victorian Home. The Dogtrot House gives you the feel of a rustic cabin retreat with the charm of a B&B stay.

The Country Room is room is quaint and rustic, decorated with antiques in a vintage and primitive style. Most of our guests comment how this room just makes them feel so welcome and at home, just like visitin’ Grandma’s Place.

The Country Room offers a Queen size and a Full size bed; it can accommodate 4 guests. It has a small dining area, individually controlled air conditioning/heating, satellite television and free WIFI.

Guest Access:
Large horseshoe drive for easy entrance and exit - perfect spot to park your RV (no electric or sewer connection available).

You will enjoy access to the entire cottage and outdoor areas.

The Neighborhood:
The cottage is located in the most convenient area in town for proximity to food (fast food and sit down restaurants are less than 5 minutes away), shopping (Walmart is les than 5 minutes in one direction and downtown vintage boutiques are less than 5 miles in the other direction), and the railroad.

Getting Around:
If you're planning on visiting Palestine, TX, you'll probably want a vehicle. The city doesn't have public transportation. Ubers are available, but not that plentiful.

Other Things to Note:
The cottage is suitable for up to 6 six, which can include a family of 6 or 3 couples.

In an effort to maintain a secure premises, the home is equipped with two exterior cameras (one on the front door and one in back above the deck). The cameras are ONLY on the exterior, and there are NO cameras on the interior.

The Cowboy Room is the third of our B&B rooms. The Cowboy Room lets you escape back to the good ole days. The tin ceiling is adorned with stars to let you “sleep under the stars” just like the Cowboys did. Peaceful dreams await with in the rustic and cozy Cowboy Room.

The 450 sq ft Logged Cabin sleeps 9 with a double bed in a private bedroom and a sofa sleeper on the first floor, a double bed in one loft and three twin beds in the second loft.

Security cameras are around other parts of the property and petting zoo, not at the cabin.

A rustic cabin in the woods, halfway between Palestine and Athens, Tx. The property is a gated 57 acres with lots of wildlife, pond with catfish and lots of trails for exploring. This is prime hunting land with an abundance of deer, wild hogs, and squirrel and full of both pine, hardwood and native grasses. Visit us during Dogwood Trail days, the Dogwood Jamboree in Palestine or festivals throughout the year like the fiddlers reunion and the black-eyed pea festival in Athens.

Our cabins are the perfect place to call home away from home. The quiet country setting of our cabins is a great alternative to traditional hotel style lodging. Our guests can enjoy strolling around our 23 acres, fishing in our one acre spring fed lake, watching the chickens free range or the cows grazing in the field.

The Lonestar Duplex offers two well appointed efficiency units. Each offers a Queen size bed, dining/sitting/work area, and kitchenette. The kitchenette includes all you'll need for a quick meal: 2 burner cook top, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and basic kitchen wares. Or if you're not in the mood to cook, we are also a Bed and Breakfast so our amazing home cooked breakfast may be available for an additional fee.

The Lonestar cabin overlooks the lake; has access to the community firepit and BBQ picnic area. The Picnic area has a charcoal park-style grill and picnic table.

We are not the usual Bed and Breakfast in a Victorian Home. The Dogtrot House gives you the feel of a rustic cabin retreat with the charm of a B&B stay. The Dogtrot House has 3 private rooms, each with their own full bath, and The Pantry and porches as shared common areas.

The Shady Lady is our unique version of an Old West Style Brothel room. It’s a little shady and a little lady, and a unique and romantic stay.

This beautiful room offers a Queen size bed, sitting area with Victorian sofa, small dining area, individually controlled air conditioning/heating, satellite television, and free WIFI.

The full private bath has a clawfoot bathtub with shower; guest amenities include all
linens, hair dryer, and our hand crafted soaps, shampoo, and lotions (made
right here at The Ranch at Walston Springs).

All guests share the common areas of The Dogtrot House which include the breezeway, front/back porches, the garden area and The Pantry.

The Pantry is the kitchenette area located in the breezeway. It has a refrigerator, microwave, and Keurig Coffee Maker (coffee pods and condiments are provided) for our guests use. Other shared amenities include grill with picnic area in the garden and firepit.

Our delicious home cooked breakfast is included with your stay.

Don’t forget your fishing gear! You are welcome to enjoy our 1 acre, private spring fed spring lake. No license required.

The location is ideal for guests visiting Palestine for the Dogwood Festival, the Texas State Railroad or any of the special events in Palestine. It is not uncommon to see deer feeding in the fields. The property adjoins 70 acres which are open for your enjoyment for hiking, exploring or fishing in the pond. Sunsets and the starlit skies are spectacular year-round! And the peace and quiet you experience while relaxing on one of the outdoor patios will be an experience you won't want to leave. The bunkhouse is a cozy countryside retreat set on a Longhorn Cattle ranch. This charming home features 2 queen beds and 1 sofa bed. 2 covered porches with rockers & patio set for enjoying drinks or cooking meals on the outdoor grill. It has 2 ponds and 1 lake that you can fish in. Fish are fed 2 times daily. Ask for schedule if you want to observe the fish feeding. We have carts to reserve to rent for a daily rate. Perfect for bird watching. Space for hiking and enjoying the beautiful sunset & sunrises.
