He checked us in both times (when we arrived). It was lovely to be greeted and cared for, by such a kind person. And Vlad gave us a parting gift in the form of a big smile the next day! We appreciate the staff there who helped to make our stay special. Also, the continental breakfast is simple yet delightful. While, tbh, I’d enjoy a non-egg protein option (maybe a bowl of almonds and walnuts or something like that?), it sure beats the basic coffee and carbs offered by some establishments. Lastly, we found our rooms (both were on the second floor facing toward the “pool side” of the hotel), to be quiet — which was a needed respite from city living. We also appreciated the view into an open marsh on the backside of the hotel, which provided our eyes and minds with a replenishing mental health break. My wife and I have lived in Guilford all of our lives. Guilford has it all. Visit our historic town green lined with quaint shops or hike through many miles of trails that run throughout town. If you want to wander further away there is much to do throughout Connecticut and we are about 3 hrs from Boston, 2.5 hours from the Cape, 2 hrs from NYC, less than an hour from Hartford and Bradley Airport and less than half an hour from New Haven and Tweed Airport. Blocks from downtown New Haven, the nutmeg room crashpad is a private room in a 3 bedroom apartment used solely for Air bnb.
The Nutmeg Room crashpad is right where downtown starts becoming residential, however, because it's so close, there's still lots of people and noise. New Haven is known as the "mini New York" and there is a wide variety of people, places, and things to do.

The space
This is a private room in a shared 3 bedroom apartment. The room has a private closet, desk, and chair for your use. The shared common area is a kitchen and bathroom only.
This is an old building. To set your expectations for this particular old building, many things have to be made especially for this building as modern items do not always fit historic structures. You may find doors that do not fit precisely, or perhaps window screens that had to be hand made and do not fit as well as brand new screens do, and things along that nature. During your stay, these old properties often have new things that come up that need a repair. We simply ask that if that happens to you, that you let us know so that we can resolve it.
As it is an old building, we also have it treated regularly for rodents and bugs, however, that does not mean that there is a magical barrier that absolutely prevents you from ever seeing a rodent or bug.
Prior to reserving a room from us, you need to be realistic and comfortable with the above. If not, we do not recommend that you reserve this listing. Thank you.

Other than your room, you will have access to the kitchen, the hallway, and the bathroom.

Other things to note
The Nutmeg Room is in an apartment of a 10 apartment colonial home. It is the smallest crashpad that we have available, (thus the less expensive price). There is parking in the rear of the home. Usually parking is available in the back, however, if it is isn't, street parking in front of the property is available for free as well.

For guests that are staying longer: Guest prep prepares the room prior to your stay with toilet paper, clean linens, etc. However that is it. The price does not accommodate for hotel services to send people in every day to clean after you and others which is why it is of the utmost importance that you clean after yourself immediately. After the initial preparation, any further toiletries, washing of linens and cleanliness is your responsibility. This is both for your sake and the sake of others in the event you are in a shared apartment.
Should we find that you are not being clean or should you request refills of initials toiletries of kleenex, soap, etc, you may be charged for it.
Of note: for laundry, there are laundromats in the area that pick up, wash, dry & fold your laundry, typically for very reasonable prices. Feedback from guests say that it seems to average around 30.00. A good laundromat that does this is 5 Star Laundromat. Note- they only take cash, however, there are other laundromats as well.

Mail/Package: If you wish to receive a package and to ensure the security of your mail and packages, we kindly request that you refrain from having deliveries or mail sent directly to our property address. Box provides a secure and convenient alternative, helping to protect your deliveries and personal information.

Snow: maintenance comes to plow within 24 hours after snow has stopped. They do not dig out your car however, so if you are staying at a time there is snow, we recommend perhaps parking your car in a paid garage where you will not have to remove snow and ice from your car.

If you are staying during the winter, we recommend bringing warm clothing as the properties are old, do have heat, however, in the event that it is not warm to your expectations.

Please be mindful that all guests are responsible for their own belongings. In the event that food or personal items go missing, we do not offer reimbursement. We recommend labeling your items and storing them securely when possible.

The space
Lilly Pad has 6 rooms, is for students and is no frills. If you are a party of 2, select 2 guests. So you share common space with others. Plus we have Bengal Cats that live outside the house in their own housing chambers, but you will see their supplies around the back or front yard. The cats are never let inside the house because of allergy concerns. Other student guests staying here may make your stay good, great or not so good. It depends who books. So if you are not a student, or have a problem putting on your own bedsheets, or stripping them at checkout, or have a problem with students storing their luggage or me crashing out in living room at times, or have any issues with the detailed  instructions I send after you book, talk to me first or do not book. I do not want a 4 star review because you were not made aware of what to expect here. Skip the review or please do not book if your expectations are different.

Check in anytime. Just follow self checkin process. Any questions or anything pls feel free to call or text. We have lot of guests and its difficult to manage expectations especially for non yalie visitors as house is really geared for no frill Yalies.

Cosy, ideal for Yale visitors. The room is part of a victorian home that has been a welcoming spot for Yalies for last 4 years. It is not a hotel. It is a lived-in space and has many visitors. Therefore if you are expecting a hotel, this is not it. Cleanliness and organization is important for me the host and I hope it is important to you as well but please keep in mind sometimes because of people checking in, checking out, cooking, studying, typing, printing assignments, house gives a "lived-in" look.

Price is lower than what comparable homes ask for on Airbnb. Amenities and proximity to Yale is comparable if not better than a lot, if not most, of the options on Airbnb. But if you are for immaculate cleanliness a hotel is probably a better option (at three times the price in downtown New Haven).

House has a lived-in look. You will see residents luggage in living room or people coming in and out.

Noise: There may be 3 potential sources of noise. (1) Street people and downtown cars playing loud music. There is nothing that can be done about this. It comes with living downtown close to Yale. (2) Next door neighbors playing music. There is a New Haven City Ordinance that requires peace and quiet after 9 pm. Free Storage provided to guests on main floor adds to the clutter. Additionally there is always some element of improvements taking place on premises. There is no clutter on 2nd and 3rd floors, where the rooms are located. Also, if instructions on self checkin scare you, please do not book. You do get to watch the self checkin video after you book. Security process and Airbnb guidelines help all. Hence, the elaborate instructions you get when you book.

The space
Lilly Pad has 6 rooms, is for students and is no frills. If you are a party of 2, select 2 guests. So you share common space with others. Plus we have Bengal Cats that live outside the house in their own housing chambers, but you will see their supplies around the back or front yard. The cats are never let inside the house because of allergy concerns. Other student guests staying here may make your stay good, great or not so good. It depends who books. So if you are not a student, or have a problem putting on your own bedsheets, or stripping them at checkout, or have a problem with students storing their luggage or me crashing out in living room at times, or have any issues with the detailed  instructions I send after you book, talk to me first or do not book. I do not want a 4 star review because you were not made aware of what to expect here. Skip the review or please do not book if your expectations are different.

Check in anytime. Just follow self checkin process. Any questions or anything pls feel free to call or text. We have lot of guests and its difficult to manage expectations especially for non yalie visitors as house is really geared for no frill Yalies.

Cosy, ideal for Yale visitors. The room is part of a victorian home that has been a welcoming spot for Yalies for last 4 years. It is not a hotel. It is a lived-in space and has many visitors. Therefore if you are expecting a hotel, this is not it. Cleanliness and organization is important for me the host and I hope it is important to you as well but please keep in mind sometimes because of people checking in, checking out, cooking, studying, typing, printing assignments, house gives a "lived-in" look.

Price is lower than what comparable homes ask for on Airbnb. Amenities and proximity to Yale is comparable if not better than a lot, if not most, of the options on Airbnb. But if you are for immaculate cleanliness a hotel is probably a better option (at three times the price in downtown New Haven).

House has a lived-in look. You will see residents luggage in living room or people coming in and out.

Noise: There may be 3 potential sources of noise. (1) Street people and downtown cars playing loud music. There is nothing that can be done about this. It comes with living downtown close to Yale. (2) Next door neighbors playing music. There is a New Haven City Ordinance that requires peace and quiet after 9 pm. Blocks from downtown New Haven, the basil room crashpad with a wonderful tempurpedic foam mattress and is a private room in a 3 bedroom apartment used for Air bnb.
The basil room crashpad is right where downtown starts becoming residential, however, because it's so close, there's still lots of people and noise. New Haven is known as the "mini New York" and there is a wide variety of people, places, and things to do. We hope you enjoy your stay here and welcome to New Haven!

The space
This is a private room in a shared 3 bedroom apartment. The room has a private closet, desk, and chair for your use. The shared common area is a kitchen and bathroom only.
This is an old building. To set your expectations for this particular old building, many things have to be made especially for this building as modern items do not always fit historic structures. You may find doors that do not fit precisely, or perhaps window screens that had to be hand made and do not fit as well as brand new screens do, and things along that nature. During your stay, these old properties often have new things that come up that need a repair. We simply ask that if that happens to you, that you let us know so that we can resolve it.
As it is an old building, we also have it treated regularly for rodents and bugs, however, that does not mean that there is a magical barrier that absolutely prevents you from ever seeing a rodent or bug.
Prior to reserving a room from us, you need to be realistic and comfortable with the above. If not, we do not recommend that you reserve this listing. Thank you.

Guest access
Other than your room, you will have access to the kitchen, the hallway, and the bathroom.
However, should you use any of the common areas, you must clean any mess that you made. Do not leave it there for another guest.

During your stay
The basil room crashpad is a private room in a 3 bedroom apartment used for Air bnb. I will not be there, however, I will be available via messaging. In the event of an emergency and you are unable to get a hold of me, you are welcome to call the guest prep service.

Other things to note
Parking - there is free parking directly behind the property and free street parking. We just recommend to observe and follow any signs put up by city if they need the streets clear for street sweeping, snow plowing, etc.

Snow: maintenance comes to plow within 24 hours after snow has stopped. They do not dig out your car however, so if you are staying at a time there is snow, we recommend perhaps parking your car in a paid garage where you will not have to remove snow and ice from your car.

For guests that are staying longer: understand that guest prep prepares the room prior to your stay with toilet paper, clean linens, etc. However that is it. The price does not accommodate for hotel services to send people in every day to clean after you and others which is why it is of the utmost importance that you clean after yourself immediately. After the initial preparation, any further toiletries, washing of linens and cleanliness is your responsibility. This is both for your sake and the sake of others in the event you are in a shared apartment.
Should we find that you are not being clean or should you request refills of initials toiletries of kleenex, soap, etc, you may be charged for it.

Of note: for laundry, there are laundromats in the area that pick up, wash, dry & fold your laundry, typically for very reasonable prices. Feedback from guests say that it seems to average around 30.00.

Mail/Package: If you wish to receive a package and to ensure the security of your mail and packages, we kindly request that you refrain from having deliveries or mail sent directly to our property address. Instead, we recommend setting up a P.O. Box for any mail or packages you may expect during your stay. Setting up a P.O. Box provides a secure and convenient alternative, helping to protect your deliveries and personal information.

If you are staying during the winter, we recommend bringing warm clothing as the properties are old, do have heat, however, in the event that it is not warm to your expectations.

Please be mindful that all guests are responsible for their own belongings. In the event that food or personal items go missing, we do not offer reimbursement. We recommend labeling your items and storing them securely when possible.
