Adorable cottage with lots of character, in the middle of a splendid and very sunny, 5-10 min on foot from the road.
Although there are 4 beds, we recommend it for couples, because of its perfect size and its romantic side.
The wide open panorama offers exceptional views of the valley and all the mountains, and the village below.
The chalet is located slightly above the center of the village, in the fields. The neighborhood is ideal for people who appreciate having space and no direct access to a road (perfect for people with children!).
The cottage is very well equipped (kitchen, etc.) but aims for simplicity rather than luxury. Try our raclette oven or fondue pot!
Important notes:
1) Access between floors is via a steep staircase / ladder that may not be suitable for people with reduced mobility.
2) You reach the chalet on foot, approx. 12 min from the covered private parking place in the village (included in the rental price). We recommend appropriate bags for carrying your belongings.
3) Towels are never supplied, please bring your own

A hay barn that was no longer held together by more than a few shreds of wood has become a place to live and rest, while retaining the building's identity. The base was rebuilt in concrete and an underground extension was added, making it possible to comfortably increase the volume available. Above all, this new space made it possible to incorporate the domestic areas - kitchen, bathroom, etc. - with a huge icing on the cake: an all-glass opening as if carved directly from the mountain pasture. Aesthetically speaking, it can even be seen as a reinterpretation of the cow trough, which here feeds the basement with daylight. The interior almost gives the impression of being in an art gallery, with the work, for once, hanging outside.
The guiding principle behind the transformation was respect for the building's heritage. The whole of the stable barn has been kept in its original state. The base has been completely rebuilt, but the part that emerges from the ground is perfectly identical to the old stable. Here the architect is not trying to create something new, but to work with what already exists. Windows set into the back of the timbers, lighting that makes the old stable barn vibrate. The use of sandblasted concrete created a very mineral atmosphere inside the new underground volume. The flat concrete floors create a very special atmosphere in this building nestling at 1700 m.

In the Val d’Hérens, we rescued the ruins of 6 agricultural buildings destined to be demolished. They were restored in complete respect for local architectural tradition typical to the Valais region.
“2 Raccards” A raccard is an agricultural building made of larch wood beams which stands on wooden posts, based on granite stones to prevent mice climbing up. Families used to store grain, hay and animals in raccards. They would dry the corn in the sun on the balcony for use in winter. The area underneath the raccard used to be a stable for the Hérens cattle.
“3 Granges” A grange is an agricultural building made from larch beams and set on top of a dry stone stable. Families used to store hay in the granges for use in winter with the livestock underneath in the stable. Granges were scattered all over the plains to avoid needlessly having to transport hay. In winter, cows were moved from grange to grange as and when the hay was depleted.
“2 Greniers” A grenier is an agricultural building constructed from larch beams and laid on wooden posts atop granite stones to prevent mice from gaining access. Welcome to Chalet la Tza!
Located at the entrance to Arolla, this former Mayen of 1863 has been completely renovated and guarantees you a comfortable stay with its modern amenities (underfloor heating/heat pump, dishwasher...), just a 5-10 minute walk from the slopes and the center of Arolla.
Spread over 3 floors, our family cottage is as suitable for couples looking for rest as it is for families (no cars around the cottage).
The space
The layout and comfort of the cottage give it a particularly cozy atmosphere.
Games and books are available for all ages. Two bobsleighs are also available for children.
The top floor is a dormitory consisting of a large double bed and two single beds.
On the ground floor (main entrance) is the kitchen, dining room and living room as well as a powder room.
The lower floor has a secondary entrance with a place to store ski equipment, a double bedroom, a shower/WC room and a laundry room.
The chalet is equipped with underfloor heating, distributed by means of a geothermal heat pump. Tenants cannot change the temperature themselves but we can adjust it remotely if necessary.
For stairs, we recommend slippers with non-slip soles on the stairs especially for children under 3 years old.
Guest access
In summer: at the Hôtel Mont-Collon, take the forest road on the right. The road is accessible in the summer (without snow) by any vehicle.
In winter, park the vehicle at the Mont-Collon parking lot and walk 5 minutes.
Bus stop: Arolla, Mt-Collon (a few minutes walk from the chalet)

Not suitable for people with reduced mobility (3 floors/stairs)
We want to make tenants aware of adopting eco-friendly practices: use of bio-degradable products (septic tank, no sewage treatment plant in Arolla), turn off all lights when the chalet is empty, promote responsible use of water etc...
