- "It was beautiful and very nice. Thanks " - "The parking was easy and the hotel is in a lovely position surrounded by blue sea. We were warmly welcomed with complimentary bottles of water and a welcome rum punch or beer. We were also given an upgrade to a front facing room which was much appreciated. The super king sized bed was really comfortable. There was a large fridge, kettle and mugs provided, just take your own coffee. The shower had plenty of hot water. The air con unit is quiet and works well, it is peaceful and we slept really well. You get a lovely sunset which we enjoyed from the gazebo which is lit with fairy lights. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent in quality and the menus are really nice, although some of the ingredients may be missing (Greek salad minus the feta) The callaloo parcels were just divine! I wanted the chefs signature herb crusted chicken but was warned off by the waitress saying it would take an hour to cook. Instead we ordered chicken pasta and goat curry which then took over an hour and a half to arrive. By the time our main course arrived 2h after we’d initially sat down we were past wanting to eat much. The locals seem to know to order in advance so it is ready when they arrive. If we had stayed longer, we would have done that for breakfast and dinner. It was the only thing that we didn’t like, you do want to wait over an hour for breakfast."

- "We had a delightful stay at this property. Its prime location right by the water is enhanced by beautifully maintained grounds. The exceptional cleanliness and brand-new mattresses added greatly to our comfort. There are several dogs on the property, all remarkably well-behaved. It took two days for the dogs to warm up to me as I tried to pet them, so concerns raised in previous reviews about a dog on a chain seem unfounded. Shakira and her family showed incredible hospitality, making our visit even more enjoyable."

The rental is spotless the owner Donna thought of everything that we would need including a basket of snacks and a case of water. The neighborhood is quiet and beautiful. There are route taxis that take you on an off the mountain, we also have our own vehicle which your welcome to jump aboard when we go to town or the beach. .We have a driver that will pick you up at the airport two hours away round trip 180 US

To bring walking shoes/tennis shoes for the nature trails, also take along with you long sleeves for the cool nights especially after the rain and sleeveless for the daytime. I might also note that you do not have to worry about local power company failures because we are totally off grid with solar panels and lithium batteries and cisterns for catching rain water, a lot of what you eat comes from our own gardens or our neighbors .we also get eggs, chicken, and even goat and pig from our neighbors when they butcher .We live in a good old fashion rural community with hard work in the day and a little jamaican rum and redstripe at the local shops at nite time..we also have a handfull of locally built churches for those who feel the vibe on sunday morning.

You live in a quiet cottage, so quiet that you can listen carefully to every sound of the jungle, at the same time you have a beautiful view at the ocean and are breathing the fresh mountain air. The hosts are very lovely and always help you out or give you some advice and knowledge about Jamaica. We somehow didnt meet as strangers, but as friends. And we laughed, played cards and even ate together. Btw I would definitely try Geneva’s dinner, she is an amazing cook and you always end up with something new and typical Jamaican on your plate. Bel Cove is a modern Caribbean villa with its own private beach on a lush 3/4 acre property nestled in the mangroves, with a private pool built into an old Lime mill. We had arranged most of our travel arrangements prior to arriving thru referrals from the owner, Bradley. Our Driver, Dexton, picked us up from the airport and we made the 90 minute trip to the house. We stopped along the way at a Mega Mart for supplies. It was a long but scenic trip from Montego Bay. When we arrived at the house is was better than expected! The house itself had a very spacious and open floor plan with the Primary Bedroom on one side of the house and the additional two bedrooms on the other. Nice sized Kitchen and (2) family/sitting room areas and Dining Area. Great Patio with beach view and direct access to the Pool and Gazebo. The Caretaker of the property and main contact during our stay was Garry. He was exceptional. When we needed something or had a question about the local community, culture, or where to find something--he was always there to respond! We enjoyed his positive attitude and appreciated that he enjoyed our humor! We decided to eat in for most of our meals and hired the in house chef, Soshanna. The menu was diverse--the food was authentic-- and delicious! We spent most of our time by the pool by day--and gazebo by night. We have all been to Jamaica before but stayed at a resort. We enjoyed this experience far more. If you're looking for a relaxing, not do much, peaceful and rejuvenating vacation, this home will certainly satisfy!"

The villa is staffed by a cook who works Monday-Saturday from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Her salary is included in the cost of your booking, but guests are responsible for food costs. Guests have unfettered access to the kitchen, but WE DON'T OFFER FULL USE OF THE COOKING FACILITIES as part of our listing, except for Sundays or Jamaican holidays when our cook has off. Our cook developed a suggested menu that includes delicious local favorites, but guests are welcome to consult with the cook about items not listed on the menu. We are happy to pass on any dietary restrictions to the villa staff. The villa staff will be happy to grocery shop for you, but you may do the shopping if you wish. If you prefer villa staff to do the shopping, we recommend advising them of your budget and food/drink preferences. Staff will provide itemized receipts for all grocery purchases, including those made from informal vendors. Any costs incurred and not reimbursed to villa staff will be charged to guests. Before your arrival, you are welcome to send us an initial grocery list, and we will pass it on to the villa staff.

A full-time property caretaker resides on the property in separate quarters, and there is an entirely separate owner's apartment on the lower floor with its own entry. Owners may be residing on the property from time to time. When the owners are on the property, they are happy to be available when needed, but guests have full and exclusive access to the main upstairs residence. For the safety of our staff, we require a copy of a valid photo ID from the booking guest upon reserving the property.

The space
Justine's Harvey Suite is a Self-serving suite with a mini-refrigerator and coffee maker in the suite. Guests are welcome to store groceries and cook in the central house kitchen, just 40 steps away.

You can also hire Laga to prepare dinner for US$20 + grocery supplies OR choose from several eateries and jerk shacks, all within a 3-20 minute walk.

Justine's Harvey Suite is dedicated to the love story of Mary and Essua (previous, long-time Horizon owners) and in memory of Justine Taylor, one of the current owner's mum. It was initially started for her to visit because she was a bit of a poo-poo and needed more lux accommodations. In addition to the unique furnishings, this suite also comes with a marble bathroom, a beautiful indoor shower, and an outdoor rinse-off shower.

With it comes a private seafront gazebo and beach for you alone to enjoy. Sea Ranch and Rasta Ranch Cottages (on the other side of The Yard) have their own private porches and small shared beach.

If you want to cook for yourself, you can share Laga’s kitchen and store “brought-in” ingredients in his full-size refrigerator.

Budget about US$40-US$45/person/day for breakfast/lunch/dinner -- One can spend more or less, depending on shellfish, imported food buys, size of meals.

The ONLY obligatory staff gratuity is to your housekeeper: US$25 for a 3-night rental (US$8/day - please adjust based on number of rental nights). Please leave it under your pillow on departure day.

Additional tips to LAGA and SOPHIA at your discretion, depending on services provided -- provision sourcing, hiking up the mountain across the road, walking around town, etc.. Please make sure you give them something for their time away from The Yard.

This is the only little private boutique resort we know of that offers the opportunity to spend day after day taking in the beauty of a coral reef filled with a variety of marine life. Some guests even swim out and back; that is how close it is (distance 1 mile).

Sea Ranch Cottage sits directly on the water, and Rasta Ranch is just behind Sea Ranch -- a small sandy beach steps from your door.

Each furnished cottage features a spacious living/dining porch with privacy shades, a ceiling and table-fanned bedroom with a queen-size bed, a fully equipped kitchenette, a private bathroom, and unique open-air showers with reliable electric hot water outside in a walled garden of flowering vines.

A/C is an additional surcharge of US$15/night. You pay this directly on the island when you want to use it. We ask that you only use the A/C at night when getting ready for bed/sleeping.

Jamaican paintings, carvings, and books abound. CD/radio players. Sea kayaks and seabed/floats. An outside grill and separate cookhouse with freezer-fridge and oven should you wish to hire Laga to cook local meals for US$20 + supplies. Or dine out at a handful of good little places.

-The famous Peter Tosh is a son of Belmont. His monument is just down the road you can walk right over to it, the locals there will show you around -- you may find his CD's or t-shirt on sale as well

-You can hire Laga or Trevor to take you fishing for US$45/hr

-Kayak to the reef which is about 2.5 km out directly in front of Horizon, were you will see a lot of sea life

-A trip to Negril for some dinner and nightlife (you have to hire a driver)

-Walk to Mt Carey, straight up the hill across the road will take you past the playfield up to a beautiful view of the village and the sea. LAGA is happy to be your guide and introduce you to the locals; farmers riding their donkey or tending their gardens, children playing, etc (please give him a little for his time)

-Close by, the town of Savanna-la-Mar (20+ minutes away) for shopping can be arranged as well with hire driver

-Or you can just take in the sweetness of just doing nothing at all (one of my favorite tings to do on island)
