- "Great staff" - "We had such a great time at this hotel, 30th and 31st December. It was a last minute decision booked on Xmas eve, to get away for New Years and it did not disappoint. The room we had (9) was opposite the cleaning cupboard which did not bother us much but might bother others as the cleaning ladies woke our dog up in the morning, however, we didn’t mind because they were absolutely lovely and loved to talk about our fur baby. The room was HUGE. USA size room with a twin bed, which was basically a super king. Next time we go we will ask them to zip link it together to make a super king, but it didn’t make a huge difference to me and my hubby. The staff are wonderful. Literally, so friendly, and so welcoming towards our nervous rescue dog. They told us the best table where to sit (in the alcove) so she could be calm, which worked a treat!! It was a lovely table, and could have sat 6 but they were happy to seat us there because of our fur baby; there were only 2 of us. I thought that was amazing. The girls behind the bar could not do enough for us, they were so friendly. The food was stunning, amazing. Somewhere that serves a roast dinner every day!! Delicious breakfast as well in the morning. Nice quiet lounge for residents to sit in, so if you wanted to get a takeaway or something, you could do one night. It was very wet when we went, but the grounds were great for walking the dog in the morning before venturing out to Ashbourne (20mins) and Blithfield Reservoir (17mins)"

Laburnum Lodge is located in a quiet area of the Marina, nestled amongst the mature and immaculately manicured planting but within walking distance of places to eat. Basque all day in the sunshine from our huge south-facing wrap-around deck or walk down to the Boardwalk for a drink whilst watching the sun set over the Marina. The lodge has no steps & wide doors. - "Very large well equipped cottage and friendly helpful owners set in a picturesque village." - "Brooklyn Barn was well equipped and very spacious. However, the attention to detail on cleaning could have been better. All windows had venetian blinds which were covered in dust and cobwebs, there were dead insects and fluff over the floor, the oven had grease and crumbs inside, the windows needed cleaning and we found snippets of electrical wiring on the kitchen table. The bathroom was clean, but needed re-grouting and re-sealing in places. The TV in the bedroom did not work, maybe new batteries required in the remote, but this should have been checked between guests. For the price we paid for the week I would have expected more."

Stroll along the raised wooden walkway to watch the colourful boats and the wildlife, stop for a coffee and cake, or treat yourself to a glass of wine. You’ll also discover nice walks within the Marina grounds with ideal spots to sit, relax and watch the world go by. If you fancy boating along the canal, the Mercia Swan runs trips in summer. The Marina has its own Community Bicycle scheme, which provides bicycles free to use for residents and visitors (bring your own helmet!).

Nestled in the award-winning largest inland marina in Europe this really is the perfect base to explore all that the local area has to offer. Why not take advantage of the Boardwalk, a promenade of six boutique retailers, centred around a fabulous two storey bar and restaurant. From here you front onto a raised wooden walkway offering terrific views of the water, boats, and wildlife. You will also discover a sensory garden at the end of The Boardwalk to sit and relax and watch the world go by. Close by Findern is a lovely village situated about six miles west of Derby. The village green is overlooked by All Saints Parish Church where a carved semi-circular stone or ’tympanum’ discovered when the previous Norman Church was demolished in 1862, is preserved. There are great walks in the area and It is a great base to explore the Peak District with its market towns of Bakewell and Ashbourne, as well as its many pretty villages.
