Designed with a 'slow' pace in mind, our hope is that you enjoy every part of your stay; sipping coffee on the updated lanai in the mornings with a book in hand, or by relaxing on the beach surrounded by sunshine and ocean breezes on the beautiful garden isle of Kauai.

THE SPACE:

Completely restored and remodeled, it features a new fully-equipped kitchen, new bath, two spacious bedrooms, comfortable living room, lanai, bedroom air conditioning and landscaped garden. Its nine and a half foot ceilings, giant airy windows, original crown moldings and wainscoting, original wood floors, and tropical ceiling fans in each room give you the feeling of 'paradise of old.'

The home is in Kekaha, the sunniest area of Kauai boasting the longest white sand beach in the Hawaiian Islands. This is true Hawaii, away from the tourist-filled beaches and stores, where church services and grocery-store conversations are still heard in the Hawaiian language. Yet great restaurants, grocery, farmers market, shops, art galleries, and great Kauai outdoor activities are minutes away. Kekaha is at the doorway to Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, famous for its hiking opportunities and vistas of the Napoli coastline.

- "This is a great property and accurately described in the listing. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking. There are beach towels, chairs, boogie boards a cooler and umbrella for your beach days. The beds were very comfortable and the neighborhood felt safe. You can walk directly down to the beach from the home. There is also a larger beach a bit up the road. Salt Pond State Park is also close and has a nice swimming area with lifeguards on duty. Close in proximity to the cute little town of Waimea. Also not a far drive to Waimea Canyon or Port Allen. We appreciated the location of the home and the daily visits from the rooster next door. I would highly recommend this property and we would definitely stay again!"

- "Perfect place to stay. Amazing home; amazing views." - "We loved being across the street from the roaring sound of the ocean waves, crashing onto the rock wall. We sat out on the deck at night just to hear that sound. So awesome! We only stayed here at night because we were gone all day seeing the island and exploring. There are two additional bedrooms on the first floor. A second master bedroom with a king size bed which walks out to the lower ocean side, and a full ocean view. The downstairs also features an additional full bath, a combined living/dining room area, a lanai dining table with seating for 4, and plenty of room for lounging. The unique design of this house allows groups traveling together to still have their own separate living and sleeping areas, offering much more privacy than most vacation homes.

The sandy beach typically starts directly in front of the house, but depending on the direction of the ocean swells, the starting point of the sandy beach can fluctuate by a few hundred feet. From that point on, however, the beach is over 15 miles long, and the longest in the entire state of Hawaii

Blue Lotus Cottage is a special beach cottage, custom built in 2005, and only one short block back from the ocean with a wide and direct ocean view.
A short walk (100+ steps) takes you to a small sandy beach area. Kekaha is small residential town, away from the crowds and major resorts, situated at the base of the Waimea Canyon. You will definitely get the island experience in this people friendly town, with Hawaiian neighbors. Kick back on the shaded ocean view lanai, in comfy lounge chairs, and enjoy the ocean breeze and look for whales. Enjoy the best sunsets the island has to offer, and get the least amount of rain and humidity on your vacation. With less than 15 inches of rain a year, this is the place to be when the rain is falling on other parts of the island.

The open floor plan incorporates the kitchen, great room, and dining area....all with a great ocean view. Walls of windows capture the trade winds, keeping the cottage comfortable.
The kitchen has a large island with stools and granite countertops. The kitchen is fully equipped with newer appliances, including a glass top range, fridge, dishwasher, oven, and microwave. Cooking meals at home is a pleasure. Every kitchen small appliance is here from coffee grinder to rice cooker, food processor, and a blender to make that island drink.
Beautifully furnished with wicker, sea grass, teak wood, island decor and art. Maple wood floors and fans in every room. A master bedroom with it's own bath, newer King bedroom furniture and mattress. There is also a second TV in the master bedroom. The second bedroom has NOVA MEMORY FOAM KING BED, and lots of soft pillows for added comfort. This room can also be made into a twin room upon request. There is a trundle bed in the 3rd bedroom, also with memory foam. All of the linens are new 500 ct. cotton sateen, and the towels are thick and thirsty. The personality and charm of this cottage will make your vacation one of the best experiences ever.

Kekaha Beach Park, about 1 mile away, offes lifeguard safety. Salt Pond Beach Park, about 15 minutes away, is a perfect crescent shaped beach park, which is ideal for small children with small waves. Polihale State Beach is for the adventurous beach goer, looking for that wild dune backed beach. After a bumpy 5 mile dirt road, you are rewarded with a secluded beach that is, to many, the most beautiful on the island.

At the base of the Waimea Canyon, you have direct access to fantastic scenery, and miles of hiking opportunities. It is often been called the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific'.

Hanapepe Art Night, every Friday night, is for the art lover and only 10 minutes away. It's restored galleries have many art treasures for viewing and purchase.

Waimea, only two miles away, has a grocery store, restaurants, and a movie theater. Don't miss the fresh shrimp from the nearby Sunrise Shrimp Farm. Within minutes, there are several restaurants for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. For a special night out, the Poipu Resort area offers you numerous upscale dining and shopping opportunities.
Fifteen minutes to Port Allen marina, this is the starting point for the Na Pali Coast boat tours. Also nearby by, the Kauai Coffee offers taste testing and tours. - "This house was perfect for our group. Beautiful home, great setup for our family plus a family friend (master upstairs and another large bedroom with en suite on the first floor). Lots of areas to sit and recharge (multiple lanais). The beach view was amazing. Lots of amenities in the home to use (condiments, spices, beach toys, snorkels, other beach accessories). This side of the island is much less touristy but that is what we were looking for. Close to lots of Waimea Canyon hiking and several really great restaurants in the town of Waimea. The beach was beautiful but not a swimming beach for kids but our kids really enjoyed playing in the sand and watching the waves. Overall, great place and would choose to stay again."

We are glad to say that in our 16 years of ownership of this property, we have not experienced any damage from a Hurricane or Tsunami at this location. It is good practice, however, to have an emergency plan in place as this property is located in a Tsunami Evacuation Zone. In essence, Hurricane Shelter is provided at the Kekaha Neighborhood Center, one block West; and in case of Tsunami Warning, local residents drive up the close by Highway 552 towards Waimea Canyon / Koke`e Park. Most experts say that once you are at least 100 feet above sea level, you are out of Tsunami danger. This can be accomplished in approximately a five-minute drive from the house. - "This home is located right at the ocean with easy access to the beach. We had some unforeseen upon arrival but working closely with Patrick and Jules they were able to resolve things in a few days and really went the extra mile. On your way from the airport, stop at Costco for bulk items (eggs, bacon, liquor, chips, etc.) There is a Safeway near Costco so get things that perish quicker from here and in reasonable quantity. There is also a local market in Waimea if you need emergency items you missed. Waimea Canyon is a short drive from the house and absolutely do not miss Polihale Beach. The road is not paved and quite bumpy but you will not regret the adventure. It's a very short distance from the house. There is some road noise when sitting on the Lanai, but honestly, you won't even mind it because you're looking out at the ocean all day. Kekaha is much more quiet than many of the other locations on Kauai; and it's the dry side of the island so it doesn't get a ton of rain which is great if you enjoy the sunny weather. However, any short drive on the island you'll likely enjoy a pop up rain shower every now and then. Overall a great visit and we looking forward to visiting the island again. We really enjoyed this quiet side of the island, being able to walk or bike to convenience stores and the fruit stand, and it's a very short drive to restaurants in Waimea. It had plenty of space for four adults and the beds and linens are very comfortable. We did not use the A/C, just opened the windows as this area feels very safe. The kitchen is well-equipped with cooking utensils, but there are no pantry staples like oil, salt, pepper, etc. Therefore heating up and cooking store-bought items is totally doable, but you would need to purchase a lot to really prepare a meal. Again, this worked great for our family, but just letting others know! I would guess that food spoils quite easily in the Hawaiian climate, and that is likely why they can't keep a pantry as some other VRBO's do. Overall, a wonderful stay, Scott was an amazing host and very communicative. Checkin and checkout were totally seamless as well as all of the information he gave us prior to arriving!"

This Kekaha estate was featured in the book the Hawaiian House Now and was one of only two houses from Kauai in the book published in 2007. Hawaii still lives in Kekaha said Gail Miller of the sleepy West Kauai town she lived in since 1998, when this publicized and well known designer purchased this Sugar Mill Manager home. Originally built in 1933, it was purchased by Miller after she first saw this beach side house. It was the original features, many of which were preserved during the extensive renovation, that attracted her to this house. Rich Douglas fir floors, gracious archways, ceilings fabricated from sugar cane, and large rooms that opened onto the outdoors provided the ingredients to create and preserve a piece of rich Hawaiian heritage. Neutral colors have been used to highlight the beauty of the outdoor ocean setting she said in describing the interior finishes. Surfers and tourists line the shore to watch the sun drop into the western horizon at an hour that used to bustle with workers returning from the fields to their homes here in Kekaha.

West Kauai is home to the longest, continuous stretch of white sand beach in the entire state of Hawaii. (over 15 miles long). Additionally, Kekaha is the closest town on the island to the world famous 'Polihale' Beach, which is arguably the most incredible beach in all of Hawaii. Polihale Beach has miles and Miles of pristine powder sand, 100 ft tall sand dunes, crystal blue water and a gorgeous backdrop with views of the 3000 ft cliffs of the Napali Coastline.

Salt Pond Beach is yet another choice within a few minutes of Kekaha for those days when you want extremely calm waters to swim in, or perhaps do a little snorkeling. Salt Pond beach is in a protected cove, so it's almost always calm enough for taking the 'little ones' in the water too.

Activities in West Kauai include surfing, sunbathing, swimming, body surfing, boogie boarding, wind surfing, whale watching and endless hiking opportunities. In the winter months, you can watch whales right from the lanai of the house, and year round you can enjoy the magnificent westward views over the ocean and the island of Nihau, which is the closest island out in front of you, approximately 18 miles off shore.

The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to prepare meals and we made use of the barbecue as well. Sometimes you stay in a house and the kitchen is really minimally supplied and it is hard to cook anything-that is not the case with this home, it has plenty of pots/pans, utensils and even spices in the cabinet. We also really liked the Waimea area and ate supper there several times. We found the location perfect and driving to activities was not a bother at all. If you are taking any of the Na Pali coast boat tours, you are less than 10 min away. Visiting Waimea Canyon (not to be missed) is only a few minutes away as well. I recommend visiting Salt Pond beach too-only about 15 min away and has a protected area that is perfect for swimming. We also need to sing the praises of Gary, the on-site caretaker who lives in the other house on the property. He was so nice and welcoming and provided an endless supply of mangos and bananas that we throughly enjoyed. We were sad to leave this Paradise and hope to return again! We completely recommend this property without hesitation."

Beach conditions:
As a note about the beach, directly in front of the property.
Due to Mother Nature, currents, and seasonal changes there is a changing dynamic of the amount of beach at any given time.
However, the beach is always in place, beginning just before MacArthur beach park, which is about 1/2 mile west. There are lifeguards, picnic shelters, and a shower located here.

The white sand beach goes west for many miles from there, making it one of the longest beaches on Kauai.

Fabulous 5 bedroom plus sunroom for 15 beachfront estate! Huge beachfront yard, is very popular for weddings! Made up of a home and guest cottage next door. Closest home is over 100 yards away! Every room leads to the ocean front patio just steps from the beach. The estate features a beautiful lawn and a lot of privacy as you do not have neighbors on either side of you.

- "The location was great and views of ocean were spectacular. It was a bit rough surf but calmed during the 9 days. The sand is very hot being black and it is hotter in general than other areas in Kauai. The house needs some general maintenance and there were no instructions left at house.The refrigerator never did really cool down, luckily we had the refer in cottage to store all the food. It is not what we were expecting for the price but we overlooked it an enjoyed the ocean and local venues."
