The original front rooms of the house were built in 1936 by my husband's great-grandparents. Since it was built, it has been a place of rest for individuals and groups.

Our goal is to be an eco and family-friendly place to stay!

The house is over 3000 square feet of space with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The house has been intentionally designed with plenty of space for individual and group activities. There are lots of places to find space for solitude, but also large spaces to gather as a group.

The house is on a one-acre property in a rural area. In spring, the property bursts into bloom with irises, daffodils, and peonies originally planted by my husband's grandparents. In the summer, you will find yourself surrounded by corn fields or soybean fields (depending on crop rotation). If you take a morning walk, you will often pass pastured cattle. In fall, the surrounding woods are filled with gorgeous foliage. In winter, the house is the perfect place to relax with those you love!

Kitchen:

We love to cook and the kitchen reflects that! It is a fully stocked kitchen (we've cooked meals for twenty people using the kitchen!).

Dining Spaces

There is a formal dining room, a table in the kitchen, and a third table in the sunroom.

Living Spaces

There is a formal front living room, an informal television room, and a large sunroom that has gathering space. There is also an upstairs gathering area with an outdoor deck. The sun porch also has an area with toys for children.

Bedrooms

There are four bedrooms and each one has a queen-size bed.

Bathrooms

There is an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower and a central bathroom with a tub/shower combination.

Work from Home Space

Several areas in the house are convenient and comfortable for remote work. There is a designated desk area in the formal living room that includes a power strip and an additional monitor.

Laundry/Cleaning Supplies

There is a spacious laundry room with a modern washing machine, dryer, and basic cleaning supplies.

Family-friendly

We have the following to help make a stay with families as easy as possible: baby bathtub, crib with sheets, pack n play with sheets, stroller, toddler toilet, kids dishes/silverware, high chair, changing table, bottle drying rack, toys, and children's books. These are always available at the property.

Parking

There is plenty of space to park on the property.

Things to Note:

This is a rural home in the middle of a cornfield. The house has many antiques and original elements dating back to the 1930s. Because of this, there may be natural wear and patina to parts of the house and furniture. The rural setting is gorgeous and while every effort will be made to keep little critters and dust away, we cannot guarantee that you won't experience all of the joys of rural living.

If you do have any issues, please let us know and we will do everything we can to remedy any problems you have! We want your rural stay to be relaxing and amazing!

Property Access

You will access the house via a lockbox that holds the keys.

You will have access to the entire house, but please do not use the storage closet or the attic space. We are working on making these inaccessible to guests, but in the meantime, please do not use them.

You will not have access to the garage, but you can park your car under the roofed carport if you prefer a covered location.

You can use the one-acre property, but please do not use the other surrounding properties. If you would like hunting or hiking recommendations in the area, let us know!

There is a woodworking shop on the property that you will not have access to. It is not attached to the house. We might have a relative who works in there during your stay, but they will not impact your stay in any way!

Things to do:

We lived in the area for a long time (my husband grew up in the house!), so we have a lot of connections we'd love to share. If you are looking for something particular, just reach out!

Additionally, if you are planning any kind of retreat at our house or need group activities, we have connections that could help you. We know people who run cooking retreats, fiber art retreats, spiritual retreats, and yoga retreats. We'd be glad to help you create an amazing experience for your friends and family!

It is possible to stay in the house on one floor and there is a walk-in shower with no steps. If you need a place that is accessible with no stairs, please message us and we can give you more details about how accessible the house is.

The cabin includes three apartments located within the same building, which means you could bring several guests with you if you wanted to rent one, two or three units. Beside a 30 acre woods with road access on one side. The cabin has a gravel drive and one step up onto the porches. We can set up the ramp for wheelchair access.
The quarter-mile, woodswalk is a work in progress. Fishing in the pond is catch and eat or catch and release – no take-home.
The cabin has heating and air-conditioning, electric, a wood-burning fireplace, hot and cold water, a heated tile bathroom floor. Gas and charcoal grills bring your own charcoal.
There is a new patio with a fire ring if you want to do a hot dog roast.
Canoe + PFD along with paddles available.
Refrigerator, counter top oven, 2 burner hot plate and microwave coffee maker

“Major“ is our German Shepard who was born December 2020 moves around the property at will and loves swimming in the pond. He greets our guests and expects to make new friends. Though his time is spent mostly at our house - not at the cabin.
We have most all the pots and pans and utensils for cooking and preparing foods.

Construction completed in 1/2023, this "Barn-dominium" style two story home has a stunning three-tiered glass front that embraces the views of the lake, forest, and wildlife. Accomodating up to six guests, there are two upstairs bedrooms and a cozy loft with a panoramic view from above. Bedroom 1 has a Queen bed, Bedroom 2 has two Queen bunk beds, and the loft has a convertible euro-lounger. This peaceful retreat has all modern and top tier amenities to enjoy in total comfort and unique style. All-new furniture and mattresses, gas and electric appliances, gas fireplace, fiber optics internet w/mesh WiFi throughout. The forest is certified by Indiana's "Classified Forest & Wildlands" program. Enjoy the 3/4 mile hiking trail with benches at scenic stops along the way.

Guests are welcome to private enjoyment of the home and walking trail surrounding the aprox. 1.5 acre lake. Note that a downstairs bedroom (un-occupied) is not included in the rental.

Entrance is on ground level at the rear of the building adjoining the parking area.

Property is located adjacent to an old cemetery. Rural area, within 30 minutes hiking, canoeing and caving. French Lick Casino is a 15 minute drive. There is a Ring Doorbell with video recording at the door.

Two things that may or may not be deal-breakers (they certainly weren't for me); the adjacent road is a main drag in and out of town, and can be a bit noisy in the early AM. And there is a historic cemetery occupying the neighboring lot. Maybe an issue for some people, but I actually found it peaceful and reflective."

Stargazing with a midnight dip in the front patio jacuzzi was definitely one of our favorite relaxing memory. House is spacious, clean, had plenty of kitchenware & towels. Our large family had to use walkie-talkies to keep track of everyone. All the kiddos throughly enjoyed the indoor pool & game room. Although the home is private & secluded, it’s conveniently located about 3 streets up from the main road with multiple stores, gas stations, and a medical center. Quick trips to Walmart took care of groceries & snack runs! Luckily there are 2 fridges & a mini fridge to store all the food, drinks & ice cream. Thank you for providing a wonderful place for our family to take part in history- watching the solar eclipse. We would love to visit again soon, no eclipse needed!"

The room was very comfortable, and the home is cozy, with lots of places to sit and read, enjoy the beautiful grounds, rest, and relax. Tammy the caretaker was attentive when we needed her, and had suggestions for places to go while we were in the area. We'd consider going back, and maybe renting out the whole house with some friends. The hot tub wasn't super functional (only a few of the jets were working), and there aren't many restaurants in town with good food (Chicago's Pizza was great, though)!"
