We are thrilled to offer Camellia Cottage as a beautiful and homely harbourside cottage, just 2 minute walk to Portreath beach.
We have just completed a full upstairs refurb for the 2025 sesason and look forward to welcoming guests to a refreshed Camellia Cottage with sleek new bathroom and tasteful coastal decoration throughout the bedrooms.
We are now in our tenth year of holiday letting having hosted many happy guests and enjoyed a good number of wonderful weeks in Cornwall ourselves. We succesfully navigated Covid and ensured that all affected guests had the choice of a full refund or transfer to alternative dates.
This 3 bedroom property sleeps 6 guests (plus 1 infant) in a double, twin and bunk room. Both the double and bunk room overlook the harbour. For your comfort the double room features a king size bed and the twin beds are extra long (6'6"). There is a travel cot, highchair and stairgate available if you are bringing an infant. The bathroom completes the upstairs accomodation and includes a shower enclosure above the bath. For the convenience of guests bath and hand towels are provided for use during your stay, however guests must bring their own towels for use on the beach.
Downstairs there is a spacious lounge with beamed ceiling and bow window to take full advantage of the harbour views. The lounge includes a wood-burning stove that makes it extra cosy in the winter. Adjoining the lounge is a fully equipped kitchen/diner in which you will find all the usual kitchen equipment as well as: dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge, freezer, table and chairs for 6.
Outside, with the harbour located immediately beyond, the front patio area provides a lovely spot to enjoy your morning coffee while taking in the views of boats bobbing and indulging in some people spotting - including watching people jumping into the water from the harbour wall or cliffs! Where the enclosed back patio proves to be a sun trap in the evening to ensure you can enjoy the last of the day while listening to the sound of the sea. In practical terms there are airers for drying your beach wear ready for your next day of adventure. There is unrestricted on-road parking to the rear of the property and a private parking area to the side.

Puffin Cottage Portreath is a luxury 3 bed holiday home in the lovely village of Portreath on the north coast of Cornwall, half way between St Ives and Newquay.
The cottage has a large modern kitchen/diner which catches the morning sun, making it a wonderful space to have a relaxing breakfast, that is if you are not outside in the courtyard garden, tucking into a delicious breakfast of fresh pastries, or maybe a traditional saffron bun from the local Portreath Bakery, only a couple of minutes walk away. At the end of an active day the contemporary lounge, which catches the evening sun, is the perfect place to relax, chat with family or friends or watch a spot of tv, and, in the winter it takes on a very cosy feel with the multi fuel burner giving additional warmth and a focal point to the room. On the first floor there are two double bedrooms, one of which can be set up as a twin, and a third which has a bunk bed, perfect for the children. The bedrooms are themed 'Woodland Retreat', 'Silver Sea' and 'Beach Days' and have been decorated to be relaxing spaces to aid a good night's sleep. There is also a modern, relaxing bathroom which has a bath with shower above.
Puffin Cottage also has a large porch, a garage for storing bikes, surf boards etc and off road parking to the rear. There is a paved front garden and an enclosed courtyard garden to the rear which has some relaxing chairs and also a six seater dining set, perfect for those warm summer evenings of al fresco dining.
Being situated in Portreath, Puffin Cottage benefits from being in a fantastic location, only 2 minutes walk from Portreath's wonderful sandy beach, which is manned by lifeguards all summer. Within a minutes walk is 'Baby Beach' which is perfect for young children. The beach has numerous rock pools and one, 'Rocky Pool'which is large enough to swim in if you don't fancy the open water! In summer look out for seals and dolphins which can often be seen!
There are also some beautiful walks from the village, taking in the magnificent coastal views of the north cliffs, as well as wooded areas full of bird life.
If you like getting out on a bike, then the coast to coast off road cycle trail may be for you which starts in Portreath and treks cross country to a nice pub stop by the estuary!
Portreath has a couple of pubs which serve good food, Portreath Bakery, a village store, a hairdressers, a chinese takeaway, a fish & chip takeaway and several cafes, as well as bike and surf board hire.
Portreath is only a 10 min drive from the A30, the main dual carriageway through Cornwall, and this makes it easy to tour the various attractions across the county, but to stay in a lovely 'base' village on the coast.
So, whether you are a couple looking for a romantic break, or a family looking for something for everyone, come and stay at the lovely Puffin Cottage for your perfect home away holiday.

Very quaint Cornish cottage, many original features & redecorated to a nautical / shabby chic style. Cosy in winter and cool in summer. 100m to a white sand & clear blue water beach, perfect for body boarding/swimming, rock pools for kids. Coastal path on your doorstep as well as great places to eat/drink. 20 mins to St ives and a short journey to the south coast. The house consists of 2 bedrooms, both with double beds, a bathroom including bath and over head shower. Gallery style well equipt kitchen, good sized living room including a double sofa bed. The conservatory doubles as a dining room. Ideal for a couple or family.
If you wait for the tide to go out at portreath beach there is a natural swimming pool in the rocks to the right and you can explore all the caves to the left.
There are lifeguards on the beach through high season.
For places to go we would recommend:
the little cafe on the beach for a snack/hot drinks/ breakfast bap etc, eating out at the Atlantic cafe, & Basset arms (they have a quiz night). The hub has bike hire and a delightful cafe, if you’re lucky you’ll catch one of their themed nights (ticket only) every 2 weeks through the summer. Portreath arms has recently had a makeover and looks amazing, food great. Best pasties are from the local bakery (sell out by lunch time) and there is a local shop 2 mins from the cottage & they do cash back. In porthtowen the blue bar is a great spot, in st ives - porthmeor cafe and blas burger are amazing. Carbis bay is a beautiful beach if you go to st ives & we normally park at the station. For surfing or a long walk - Gwithian beach is stunning. Trip to trebah gardens and helford river (stopping at the ferry boat inn) is a great day out. You can book a river cruise that picks up at the Budock vean hotel.
- "House was great, close to the beach, pub and the local amenities- probably one of the best beaches for swimming or bodyboarding and the local rental shop were friendly and really helpful 👍 the local pubs are fantastic- Portreath arms serves excellent food in the restaurant or great pub food in the bar - and the Basset Arms is everything a proper pub should be ;) the cottage was the perfect base with its cosy private garden and flexible sleeping - also positioned perfectly for exploring the SW coastal path - the walk to Porthowan was superb and the Unicorn on the beach a great pub to stop and eat 👍👍👍"

Beachside is probably the closest house to the beach on the north Cornish coast! Nestled into a romantic cove in Portreath with the accommodation being both flexible and generous, and is presented to a luxuriously high standard.
Sleep in luxurious beds with only the sound of the ocean to soothe you all into blissful rest.
Situated in an ideal spot to explore everything beautiful Cornwall has to offer, with the main A30 road less than three miles away, enabling easy access within a 45 minute drive at most.
The South West Coast path runs straight through our private car park, with access to truly incredible seafront walks in either direction.
- "This is a very well designed luxury house with all possible comforts, amenities and extras provided. I cannot think of a better location for watersports requiring waves, beach walks, swimming and simply sitting and watching the waves. The outdoor hot shower was a real luxury after spending time in the water. For dog owners (during hours in the summer when dogs are not allowed on the beach) and walkers in general the coastal path can be picked up right by the top door - we attempted walks to St Ives (going west) and to St Agnes (going east) - this is a protected AONB which is well deserved both for the vegetation and the views. The owner was very accommodating to our requests, provided a lovely welcome pack with local produce and the caretaker fixed any (very minor) issues very quickly. We stayed for 2 weeks and had a mid-stay clean provided which was very much appreciated. We would definitely like to return here in years to come!"

- "Back to reality with a manic first week since our October half term break, we definitely realised how much the Beach House at Smugglers Cove was such the perfect place to get away to enjoy a much needed change of pace and scenery. Beach House was perfectly located and set up with great access to the beach, scenic walks and amazing views. The house was more than comfortable for two families, with the different living areas and gated deck/lawn areas making for a very family- and dog- friendly property. It was also fully equipped with all the amenities and necessities - both in and outside - needed to make our stay easy, entertaining and relaxing. We love to cook so self catered for most of our stay and then treated ourselves one evening to a delicious meal by Cornwall Chef Dave Sargent. The house offered so much to everyone in our group, and even better to each in their own time. Charlotte was an excellent host... welcoming with her pre-arrival info pack and surprise hamper and doggie treats, professional with her quick responses and lovely nature. Thank you Charlotte for our great holiday and wonderful stay your Beach House!"

- "We had an excellent stay in this property, it looked lovely on the website but it was even better than I was expecting. We had good weather for our stay in December but I would have been happy to see some stormy weather as the views were fantastic." - "We really enjoyed our week, the house is excellent, well furnished, and it is in a lovely location overlooking the bay, it was an easy place to relax and we enjoyed spending time out on the balcony. As you can tell from the website it is up on a hill but is a short walk down to the beach (where there is a great fish and chip shop) or further up in the opposite direction onto the wonderful cliff top walk of Godrevy. Ample space for our party of 6 adults. Well-equipped kitchen, welcome pack of tea, coffee and milk provided. Beds comfortable and everywhere clean. Well described on the website with very useful floor plan. A guest book in the house would be nice for guests to add comments and useful info about visits in the area. We did have some negative comments - the carpet in the kitchen is a trip hazard and needs replacing or removing. We rolled it up and put it out of the way. The Keysafe is a good idea but was quite stiff and awkward to operate. Two of the showers were rather slow draining (wet room was great, really liked that). Top oven/grill did not look very clean, we did not use it. One of the oven pans was greasy we left it cleaner than we found it! None of the above spoiled our holiday."

At certain times of the year, at high tide when there is a big swell, the beach is very popular with the keen body boarders who come to surf the harbour wall to ride 'The Vortex'. - "We were originally booked into another property but moved to SeaEsta after a problem with our original booking. SeaEsta is lovely. Well appointed with nice personal touches. There is a small rear garden for pet needs. There is a great ground floor garage facility that will take two medium sized cars. My large SUV just fitted in. The first floor open plan living space is great for a family. Balconies on all floors look out to the beach and sea. The two front bedrooms also have full length bifold doors that give you a view of the sea from your bed if you so desire. There is a wide range of walks from the door from a mile or two to six or eight miles. With at least two great pubs and restaurants too there is no real need to manoeuvre the car out of that garage all week if you don’t want to. Could not recommend it more strongly."

- "This was a great stay in a nice cottage set in an excellent location. Portreath has a lovely beach, a nice bakery and cracking pub which serves excellent food. The bed was very comfortable, as was the cottage generally, and was also very clean. Only two minor downsides - there was no hot water in the cottage until we found the boiler and a switch marked (turn on if more hot water required) but this wasn’t in the cottage guide book and we were on the verge of calling for assistance as we found the switch, but it was perfectly fine once it was switched on. Secondly the parking isn’t ideal, it’s on a first come first served basis and there are a lot of cars on the street. However there is always somewhere to park within a minute or two’s walk so never a disaster, but you need to drop lucky to get a space outside the cottage. Turning the front garden into a driveway would be a great move as it would take away this problem and be extremely handy. Overall though we were very happy with our stay and would be more than happy to stay again. We have already recommended it to family and friends and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a week in Cornwall. Thank you!"

- "It was the location that attracted us to Seagull Cottage, and it certainly didn't disappoint. We are a family of 4, and our 4 and 6 yr old absolutely loved the fact that they could just go out of the front door and play safely on the sand on the small harbour beach. Looking forward to the tide coming in so that they could paddle and play on their bodyboards in the calm and clear water in the harbour beach was perfect. The main beach just a few steps over the wall was spectacular, clean and not crowded. The house itself was comfortable (lovely mattresses and bedding), and completely fully functional for our needs. The porch provided an excellent de-sanding area and storage for beach paraphernalia. The garage was very tight for our car- s max) and we couldn't shut the garage door, but this seemed to be the norm with the other cars down the street and wasn't a problem. There was a lack of recycling facilities at the house which was frustrating as it meant we had to put all our waste into the general collection bin, which is not ideal. Portreath has a lovely bakers, general store, pubs and restaurants and great fish and chips. Ice creams on the beach too. So we were very well catered for. We also did loads of exploring to other nearby beaches and generally had a lovely week staying here."

Summary:
Sea views can be enjoyed from the entire living space of this beach shack, and you've even got a private path that leads straight down to Portreath Beach! The property is split across one level, and there's ample room for everyone to spread out and relax.
The Space:
There's all the mod cons you need to cook up hearty meals: find a modern oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and coffee machine. After busy days out on the beach, you can retreat to the terrace for an evening BBQ (The BBQ is available for use from April to October) or, on cooler nights, to the comfortable corner sofa for a film night with the Smart TV.
There are 4 bedrooms in total, and each one is as welcoming as the next. The two largest come with double beds, while the further 2 are equipped with a twin room with two singles and a bunkbed. Please note, the bunk bed is only suitable for children. Each room has storage, so you can unpack for the week and make yourself at home. The rooms all share a stylish family bathroom with beautiful moroccan-style tiles, a roll top bath tub and a large shower with a luxury waterfall head and brass fittings. The position of the house cannot be rivalled in the area, and with private parking for 2 vehicles you're in the prime spot for a fun-filled holiday by the sea!
Dogs are welcome with a fee of £20/dog (max 2). It is on the condition they are not allowed on the soft furnishings or in the bedrooms.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the entire property.
The Neighborhood:
The property is located in a prime spot overlooking Portreath Beach, and there is a private path that leads from the terrace right down to the sand. Portreath itself is known as a hidden gem of a village in Cornwall, tucked away on the North Coast between St Agnes and Godrevy. It's a quiet haven away from the busier resorts, but still boasts handy amenities, including a few pubs and shops. For dining options, try The Basset Arms (located 3 minutes walk), The Terrace (3 mins drive or 15 minute walk) or Blue Bar (12 mins drive). The local beach is large, sandy and popular with bodyboarders and surfers. As an RNLI lifeguarded beach, it is very safe for children! There are bodyboards and buckets and spades at the property, which of course you are welcome to use.
You can easily join the South West Coast Path as it follows the hemline of the jagged cliff-gilded countryside around Portreath. You can also follow a long-distance bike trail from there to Devoran on the south coast. Remnants of Portreath’s industrial past can be seen throughout the village making it a fascinating place for those with an interest in history too.
For days out, we'd recommend heading to Tehidy Country Park, which spans an area of 250 acres with over 9 miles of nature trails. The park is also a haven for birds – there are a number of hides around the lakes in the park where you can observe the birdlife feeding and interacting. Nearby Porthtowan is picturesque and boasts an even larger beach to enjoy! You can walk all the way to Chapel Porth Beach at low tide by the cliff base. St Agnes and Godrevy are also around 15-20 minutes drive - visit for stunning beaches, good walks and excellent food choices. Gwithian Beach (12 mins drive) is one of our favourite spots for a summer sundowner! Further afield, St Ives is 30 minutes drive whilst Falmouth and Newquay are a little further at 40 minutes.
Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of Cornwall, a vehicle is recommended for getting the most out of your time here. Free parking is available for two cars.
Other Things to Note:
Please note, whilst we welcome dogs at the property, they are unfortunately not allowed on the beach from 1st July to 31st August between 10am and 6pm. However, it is is dog friendly outside these hours and from 1st September to 30th June.
We would like to share that our water pressure has been rectified since the latest reviews. We look forward to welcoming you!
The BBQ is available for use from April to October.
Interaction with Guests:
We will be available via message, email and phone during your stay. Any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch!

- "Seahouse is simply beautiful. It was very clean on arrival & all of the finishing touches & accessories made our stay extremely comfortable & enjoyable." - "Had an amazing 2 week stay at The Seahouse. Really clean home that’s light, comfortable and has a lovely enclosed garden. We would highly recommend a stay here it was very relaxing and close to lots of places for days out. The lady who lived next door was really lovely too." - "We stayed for 2 weeks in the Seahouse, Portreath in June 2021 and had a fantastic holiday! The accommodation surpassed our expectations due to the tasteful decor and the fact that it was so well-equipped with lots of thoughtful touches such as wetsuits, bodyboards and beach equipment being left for us in the shed, an outside tap to wash out wetsuits, hooks on all the doors and lots of coat hangers to help with storage and useful under-stairs storage and an airing cupboard upstairs, to ensure the house didn't get cluttered during our stay. Portreath is a great base for exploring the South and West Cornwall and we made the most of this visiting St Ives and Seal Island, St Michael's Mount, Lands End, Porthcurno beach and the Minack Theatre, Lizard Point and Kynance Cove (fantastic walking around here); also the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Mevagissey. On days spent more locally, the children really enjoyed body boarding and surfing at Portreath and Gwithian/Godrevy beaches, walking and cycling in the Tehidy Country Park and walking on the SW coastal path. We particularly enjoyed the walk from North Cliffs to Godrevy Point to see the seals, then went to the Rockpool afterwards for brunch. My husband and son also played golf a couple of times at the Famous Nine course, which is literally next door to the property. We loved Portreath as it was not that commercialised and enjoyed our meals at the Portreath Arms, Basset Arms and the Terrace Restaurant at Gwel yr Mor. Would also recommend the Hub for lunches and coffee. Would highly recommend both the Seahouse and Portreath as a holiday destination."

- "We had a fantastic week in this cosy, well equipped 1970’s cottage on Portreath harbour front. It felt incredibly homely and was spotlessly clean. A great location for beach, cliffs, tin-mines and lots of other scenic places of interest. Watching the rhythm of the tides coming in and out, just outside the cottage window, was restful and mesmerising." - "A nice neat tidy house. Lots of equipment to self cater etc. The cleaner was helpful and also very clean and tidy on arrival. One thing I think the property would benefit from would be a 2nd large sofa which would offer more comfortable seating. Location to the beach was fab and we enjoyed our daily morning walks across the beautiful beach. Two super local pubs to eat we alway eat outside and enjoyed the food."

Portreath, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is surrounded by National Trust land. For its size it has a surprising amount to offer with its two beautiful, sandy beaches: watersports such as swimming, surfing, canoeing, fishing and surfing school; footpaths and cycle tracks connect with networks right across the peninsula through the old mining areas; a whole, rich, industrial history to be explored. The village has shops, including a bakery and a mini market, that provide for all daily needs: two beachside cafes and no less than three pubs with restaurant facilities and outdoor eating areas. Not far from the village is a golf course, riding stables, dry ski slope, skateboard and BMX trak
Portreath (Cornish: Porthtreth or Porth Treth)[2] is a civil parish, village and fishing port on the north coast of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The village is about three miles (5 km) northwest of Redruth.[3] The village extends along both sides of a stream valley and is centred on the harbour and beach. West of the harbour entrance and breakwater are two sandy beaches which are popular with holidaymakers and surfers.
Portreath lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Almost a third of Cornwall has AONB designation, with the same status and protection as a National Park. Separately, in early 2017, the village was looking to be a hedgehog friendly village.[4] It would join Burton Fleming in East Yorkshire as one of a handful of hedgehog friendly villages in the UK.[5]
History
The name Portreath (meaning "sandy cove") was first recorded in 1485 and tin streaming in the valley was recorded from 1602. Devon contractor Samuel Nott, was engaged to build the first mole (or quay) in 1713 on the western side of the beach, near Amy's Point.[6] The quay was destroyed by the sea before 1749 and the foundations are occasionally seen when the sea washes away the sand.[7][8] The village also had a fishing fleet, mainly for pilchards.[6] The harbour we see today was started in 1760 to service the expanding ore industry in the Camborne and Redruth area. The quay was extended and the inner basin constructed in 1846 and in the 1860s, New Dock, now known as Little Beach, was constructed.[8]
In the late 1770s, during the American Revolutionary War, lieutenant-colonel of the North Devon militia, Francis Basset, commanded local miners to fortify the port, which helped counter a Franco-Spanish invasion fleet gathered as part of the European theatre of the war, some of them still standing to this day.[9]
By 1827 Portreath was described as Cornwall's most important port and Portreath was, with Devoran on the south coast, one of the main ports for sending the copper ore mined in the Gwennap area to Swansea for smelting. The ships returned with Welsh coal to fire the steam engines used on the mines. The peak of this enterprise was around 1840, when some 100,000 tons of copper ore were shipped out each year.[10]
With a growing population a church was built in 1827, the Portreath Hotel (1856), Methodist Chapel (1858), Basset Arms (1878) and the School (1880) all followed.[11] A cholera outbreak in 1878 caused the death of almost half the population.[11] The copper trade collapsed by 1886 and the port was almost bankrupt, although trade of domestic coal, cement, slate and potatoes continued until after World War Two.[8] In June 1980 the owners, Beynon Shipping Company, donated the harbour to Kerrier District Council and it is now leased to the Portreath Harbour Association by the present owners, Cornwall Council.[8]
Tramroads and railways
The Portreath Tramroad, the first railway in Cornwall, was started in 1809 to link the harbour with the copper mines at Scorrier and St Day. By 1812 the tramroad reached Scorrier House, one of the financiers houses, and was completed by 1819. It was horse-drawn with wagons on an approximate 4 ft (1.2 m) gauge using L-shaped cast iron plates on square granite blocks. The line was little used after the Poldice mine closed in the 1860s and the tramroad was closed in 1865.[12]
The Portreath branch of the Hayle Railway was opened in 1838. To the south of the harbour, and on the west side of the valley, are the remains of the old cable-worked incline which linked the harbour to the mainline at Carn Brea.[13] The Portreath incline was, one of four on the Hayle Railway and was 1,716 ft (523 m) long with a rise of about 240 ft (73 m). It was worked by a stationary steam engine, used as the winding engine.[13] Part of the main line of the Hayle Railway was incorporated into the route of the West Cornwall Railway in 1852 and the branch line finally closed in 1936.
The railways and Portreath Tramroad associated with the minerals trade today form the Mineral Tramways Coast to Coast, a long distance cycleway and footpath extending 15 miles (24 km) from Portreath to the south coast.[10][14]
Nancekuke
Nance Wood, 1 mile to the south east of the village, is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its biological characteristics. The woods are one of only 2 sites in Britain to contain Irish spurge (Euphorbia hyberna), a Red Data Book of rare and endangered plant species.[15]

Pepperpot is a short walk to the harbour, which leads down to the Mole (the harbour wall) and out to the beautiful beach, flanked by dramatic cliffs, with rock pools, golden sand and some shingle. Pepperpot is a lovely little, dog friendly cottage, with a wood burning stove to warm up those cold evenings, a fully equipped galley kitchen, and a private parking spot outside the front door. It is perfect for a romantic getaway or as a base to explore the dramatic coast, feast on the rich mining heritage, or bask out on the glorious beaches.
Portreath has a rich heritage and the narrow harbour was originally used for exporting Copper from the mines around Chacewater and importing coal from South Wales. The harbour entrance was quite hazardous and tremendous skill must have been required to navigate sailing ships into the port, some of the ships carried well over a hundred tons of ore. The pretty, sandy beach has a stream running down to the sea on the left hand side. It is a popular family beach which, like many beaches on the north Cornish coast, is popular with surfers and in particular bodyboarders who turn up in force at high tide on big swells to surf the harbour wall, or Vortex as it is known.. During the season, the beach is cleaned daily, it is patrolled by RNLI lifeguards, and dogs are not allowed on the beach in July and August between 10am and 6pm. There are several shops, and cafés in Portreath. The village has a very friendly atmosphere and caters for most needs of tourists, whilst not being over-commercialised.
Accommodation
Ground Floor: Enter into living room with comfortable sofa, wood burning stove, separate electric fire, SMART TV, dining table and chairs, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, shower room with WC and hand basin. Stairs to first floor.
First floor: Stairs open into bedroom with 5' king size bed, storage. WC with hand basin.
External: Parking space, patio table and chairs.
- "Excellent location, very comfy cosy cottage big enough for two, has all the facilities you need. No complaints."

Portreath lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
- "When you find your apartment matches your expectations on arrival it is a good start to a holiday. A warm and friendly welcome from the owners coupled with a wealth of local knowledge and advice was most pleasing. The week disappeared too quickly."
