Enjoy a 2 bedroom, 2 bath upstairs barndominium apartment on 107 acres of pristine Desert wilderness, nestled in a valley between awe-inspiring mountains. See the Milky Way in all it's glory in our "dark skies" territory and from the brand new 6-person hot tub ("hot" in the winter - a "cooling pool" in the summer - you adjust the temperature to meet your preferences).

This location (45 min from BBNP) allows the enjoyment of a huge assortment of wildlife viewing - migratory birds of all colors, shapes and forms, dove, quail, ravens, red-tail hawks, mule deer, javelina, rabbits, fox, wolves, and even an occasional black bear, bobcat or mountain lion. In addition to the wildlife, visitors have enjoyed marveling at the wide and diverse array of plant and cactus life!

Another bonus is that this location provides miles of primitive walking/hiking/biking/ATV opportunities. Be sure and inquire about special excursions offered by the hosts.

If visitors choose to fly-in, to the nearby landing strip, the hosts will gladly assist with transportation (please inquire ahead-of-time).

The apartment is rustically furnished with brand new custom ordered furnishings, including queen-size beds/mattresses. Also, found in the apartment is a TV in each bedroom and living room, on-site Fiber Optic 5G WIFI, outside lounging furniture on a viewing deck as well as on the ground floor patio. A full-size stove/oven, refrigerator, counter-top ice maker, microwave, filtered drinking water, coffee pot, dishes, pots & pans, linens, towels, washer & dryer (bring your own laundry soap) and an outdoor gas grill are all provided. Tabletop heater and a fire pit are also available to ensure the enjoyment of the outdoors, even on cooler evenings. The apartment comes equipped with a sophisticated mini-split heating and air conditioning system as well as a back-up generator for any unexpected power outage.

The apartment, currently, sleeps 4 but can sleep 6 with the use of 2 new, large, heavy-duty cots with thick cot mattresses, upon request. In addition, if additional space is needed for additional guests, the hosts' original property is also available near by - an RV that can accommodate 4 more guests (please inquire).

The hosts live near, but a bit removed, on the acreage, and are readily available for information/advice and/or socialization (previous guests have remarked how much they enjoyed "happy hour" on the porch with the hosts!) and if any need arises.

The hosts continue to take great pains to insure that our facilities meet and exceed recommended sanitation guidelines.

Please be aware that this is a non-smoking property (due to allergies - both inside and outside) and that no pets are allowed (for your pet's safety). There is a $250 fine for the violation of either of these policies.

Absolutely no hunting or discharge of firearms allowed.

Area attractions include but are not limited to: Big Bend National Park (be sure and see the Chisos Basin, the Boquillas Overlook, the Hot Springs, the Dinosaur Exhibit, Santa Elena Canyon and river tours among others), Big Band Ranch State Park (be sure and enjoy the Hoo Doo's and Closed Canyon Trails), the Terlingua Ghost Town (enjoy dinner at the famous Starlight Theatre, LaKiva, DB's Rustic Iron BarBQ or Long Draw Pizza restaurants), the Lajitas Golf Resort (enjoy a prickly pear margarita at the Thirsty Goat Saloon), the "River Road" following alongside the Rio Grande River (Highway 170 - considered one of the top 10 scenic drives in America) and the casual and quaint, local Bad Rabbit cafe' located just 1 mile away.

Also, and closer to home you'll find the Terlingua Ranch Headquarters office (they sell ice, snacks and trinkets), the crystal clear, cool and refreshing swimming pool and bath house.

Note that the hosts value and support military personnel, veterans and first responders by offering a 10% discount on the nightly rate. This discount is offered only when the qualifying person is present (please notify hosts, at time of booking, and be prepared to present ID card). We will text you specific driving instructions to the property just prior to your arrival but please be aware that the last 3 miles is a well maintained gravel road.

Studio 410 is a tiny hideaway mere blocks from downtown. You feel like batman as you drive down the alley and pull into your own secret covered parking! Enjoy your shaded outdoor area surrounded by a privacy fence or chill out in the studio’s living area. There’s a small kitchen with everything you need for light cooking as well as a charcoal grill. The cozy sleeping loft is up a ladder, it has windows, a window unit ac and a queen-sized bed.
It’s cute but funky, y’all!

This casita was originally an adobe single story structure that was remodeled, and an addition was built to house the former tenant’s mother-in-law. In 2020 the home was purchased by local businesswoman Jenny Hatch who had just started a record label and the little casita became a studio for Ross Fleming, her label’s only artist. Ross wrote songs and practiced guitar in the little house without interruption or bothering anyone. It’s completely private and very secure.

The Loft - the queen bed is up the ladder in the loft with only 5”3” ceilings. It's super cozy for reading or sleeping but not great for walking around! Back down the ladder is 8’ ceilings, plenty of room to stretch.

WARNING: The studio is only for those who can climb steep ladders and watch their heads under a low ceiling! Not for children under 12.

The carport is yours exclusively, as well as the outdoor fenced area.

We provide microwave, Keurig style coffee maker with 6 K cups. and mini fridge w/freezer. Wifi and smart TV w/roku (need own streaming account). Outside is a private patio with picnic table, chairs and hammock. Luxury bathroom is shared with one other rental - Explorers Hideout.

If you’re not used to desert camping, we recommend booking one of our other vacation rentals during the hot summer months. At the tipi, we provide 1-2 tower fans to keep it cooler inside. Although it is much cooler than a tent would be, it is still warmer than the outside in the summer, during the day. Because we are located at 5,250 ft in elevation, we typically cool to around 60-65° at night. Great for sleeping!! This can vary. Check weather forecast before booking.

CHECK WEATHER FORECAST BEFORE YOU ARRIVE. PACK WARM CLOTHING and EXTRA BLANKETS, IF NEEDED. During the colder months: one heated mattress pad on queen bed, 2 electric blankets, 1 electric fireplace and 1 tower heaters are available in tipi. Loft 1 and 2 have a Jack and Jill bathroom (you get both lofts in this listing), featuring two bedrooms, private bath, fridge and microwave. Park up to 8 vehicles. Covered motorcycle parking. Additional lofts available for groups.

Stargaze at night, bird watch by day, from your own balcony. Or, take a short jaunt to Big Bend National Park, Fort Davis, Marfa, Marathon, or down to Ojinaga Mexico for shopping, as Alpine happens the be the hub for the Big Bend area. Bring your small dogs and your motorcycles- we have an outdoor pen and covered bike parking! We're a few blocks from the University, making the Lofts the ideal place to stay for short term visiting lecturers and academics. The neighborhood is quiet, and we take up half the city block.

Owners live on site, in the main house. There are four lofts with adjoining bathrooms between #1 & 2 and #3 & 4, so you'll actually get use of two lofts, depending in which side you select. We can sleep a total of seven in #1/2, and a total of ten in #3/4 if you're bringing a group. Lofts have access to a shared outdoor kitchen and bathroom, making this a fantastic venue for weddings and special events, with tons of off street parking!

Guests provided with linens, shampoo/ conditioner, lotion, towels and washcloths, grilling utensils. Due to the shared spaces , concrete steps, fall hazards and courtyard water feature, we strongly discourage children.

Neighborhood is residential (so please be mindful of noise levels after 10:00 p.m.), with easy access to the golf course, City Park, Kokernot Field (Home of the O6 Cowboys!), Sul Ross State University and scenic Loop Road. Abundant wildlife, including numerous deer, quiet neighborhood and awesome views.

Enter property through the alleyway to the left of the house. Parking available on north end of the property, off street. Use this entrance to access courtyard. If you're coming on a motorcycle, you should park in the covered front driveway to avoid the gravel. Owners have bikes too, so we understand!

We LOVE pets! But, please know that there are expectations when you bring your furbabies. There is a $100/ dog pet fee, 2 dogs maximum.

Please bring pets into the courtyard on a leash. We have inside dogs that may be outside when you arrive, and will put them in after they do their business. Small dogs only unless you contact me ahead of time and we agree. Big Bend National Park highly discourages pets in the park due to bear and wildlife attacks.

If you're going to leave your dog in the room while you're gone, please leave them in a crate. We reserve the right to move your pets to the dog run if they are barking and disturbing other guests. I'll message you before we do that, but know that you may not have cell service, depending on where in this area you are travelling. If we cannot reach you via email or on your cell phone, we may opt to go ahead and move them.
Parking- Pull in on Cockrell Street between East Avenue A and East Nations St. Take the alley to the left of the front door and park in front if the garages, pulling straight in as a courtesy to owners and guests. You'll see a doorway between the garages and main house that says "Welcome". Enter there and follow signs up the stairs and to your vacation Loft! Check in by simply letting us know you've arrived in your app. Doors will be unlocked when you arrive. Keys to Lofts will be on your chalkboard. When you leave, simply leave the keys right back where they were when you got here, and send me a quick message via your app. That's it!

Small dogs allowed- please be sure their owners are well behaved and clean up messes. Walk and potty dogs in the alley please.

Accessibility- This is a first floor unit.

Kitchen is downstairs in the courtyard. Guests share this kitchen; we have another in the main house for us.

This is a non smoking property, with exception of the far corner of the parking lot.

Televisions are Smart Roku TVs. You can access your Nerflix, Hulu, etc.

There is motion sensor lighting in the entry corridor, downstairs breezeway and stairwell. You have the ability to turn on the balcony lights from your Loft- but please be mindful of the stargazers around you. This part of the country is Certified Dark Skies, so most of us spend time outdoors looking upward- trust us, you'll be amazed!

You are in a residential neighborhood. Although the courtyard is very private, please be mindful of our neighbors and our grandchildren. There are yard games for your enjoyment. Feel free to use the kitchen, there are pots and pans in the cupboards, utensils and a grill under the pergola. No spices, oils, etc. so bring them or make a run to the grocery store. Other than that, you're set!

Marfa and Fort Davis are an easy drive from Alpine. The property was great, and the hosts were quick to respond to the one issue we had, a minor plumbing problem in the shared kitchen. we had to wash some of the kitchen items before using them because they didn't look like they'd been thoroughly cleaned after the prior use. the rooms, bathrooms, beds, etc. were all comfortable, and we had plenty of space to stretch out and visit."

Adorable Tallie's Camp is located to the rear, off the foyer, with one large bedroom; bath with large walk-in shower, full kitchen & breakfast nook. The back door opens to the carport where there is covered parking available. There is a beautiful backyard area with a porch. Across the street from the property is the city's two mile walking path which travels around "the loop." Downtown Alpine is less than a mile away!
The space
The entrance to Tallie's Camp is off of a shared main foyer/lobby area, but the Suite is private and shares no walls with the two other Suites in the building. The lobby is keyed with a keypad, and the Suite also has an additional keypad entry.
Tallie's Camp is perfect for those who want longer stays, with a parking space in the carport, and a desk area. There is a fully equipped kitchen, and it is located in one of the few areas in Alpine with high speed fiber internet.
Guest access
There is a supply closet which is kept locked in the bedroom, but otherwise there are no access restrictions.

Situated in the heart of Alpine, this 7400+/- square foot complex sits on over a half-acre in the foothills of Sul Ross State University, offering spectacular views from the balcony right outside your loft door!

Owners live on site, in the main house. Loft is suitable for up to 10 people. There is another loft next to yours that suites up to 7 people.

Loft 1 features two bedrooms, private bath, fridge and microwave. Park up to 8 vehicles. Additional lofts available for groups.

Stargaze at night, bird watch by day, from your own balcony. Or take a short jaunt to Big Bend National Park, Fort Davis, Marfa, Marathon, or down to Ojinaga Mexico for shopping, as Alpine happens the be the hub for the Big Bend area. We`re a few blocks from the University, making the Lofts the ideal place to stay for short-term visiting lecturers and academics. The neighborhood is quiet, and we take up half the city block.

- "We loved the property. Outside was beautiful and my children enjoyed it. There was someone for my 8 and 10 year old to play and my 15 year old to enjoy being outside and reading. Inside was nice. I liked that both of the lots were connecting but still gave us our own space. The kids liked being able to have their own side. We also like the idea of the guest book and seeing how long it has been going. Wish we could hsbe stayed more than one night. We definitely would like to come back."

- "Upon arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome. Monica explained how to access our rooms and told us if we needed anything to ask. Access to the rooms were by digital locks. The door from the street to let you up the hallway and then to our room. Don’t let the name Big Bend Biker Hotel fool you! It was beautifully decorated and immaculate clean. There is a garage area if you have a bike to park. We were in our truck and parked on the street side. The Old Gringo Bar was fun and the staff were very friendly and provided excellent service. We were in Alpine for a college football game and stayed one night. After the game we came back and sat in the bar and listened to a live band that was really fun and had a great sound/. Bar service and food was excellent once again. They carry only the best alcohol which was nice to have that choice. We stayed in the bar until midnight then slipped back to our room. If you are a light sleeper bring your earplugs. The band was still rocking for another hour. (Bar closes at 2:00am). Basic amenities in the room. A lounge area upstairs had a Keurig coffee maker and a mini fridge if you needed to keep something cool. We enjoyed our stay and the hospitality by all the wonderful people in the community. Thank you for making our first trip easy and enjoyable!"

The building is over 120 years old, and the ceilings are original wood. The fire system is connected to every guest space.

- "Lovely old building, with very friendly people. It's upstairs from a bar/restaurant like a classic Irish pub room, so not a traditional American lux hotel, it has an entirely different character. One design change I might suggest is heavier room doors that seal better to reduce noise from the common area and hallway; not that it is bad, but it could be better. Such doors also offer some advantage for fire safety, as they reduce smoke infiltration. But this is a great place, and truly awesome for people traveling by motorcycle. "

It`s old, it`s rustic, it leans a bit.... but it`s an awesome location in the center of downtown Alpine over looking the main street, train station, and is upstairs above the cutest little souvenir shop you`ve ever seen.

The building is one of Alpine’s original structures. Built in approximately 1898 as the Alpine Furniture Store, (we said it was old) the building housed the Valadez Grocer for many years in the mid- 1900’s.
After sitting vacant, the building saw a fresh start as Murphy Street Raspa in the early 2000’s (they had the best snow cones) and most recently as Murphy Street Provisions (that cute little souvenir shop we mentioned earlier).

The upstairs loft-style unit provides a rustic space with modern conveniences scattered throughout, including a king size bed. And that lean.... is about 2 1/2 degrees. The floors are the original hardwood so they can be a bit rough in some areas. Walking barefoot may cause some discomfort.

The kitchenette has a sink, microwave, coffee maker and a small refrigerator. It is not a fully equipped kitchen.

The cons: This listing (Loft 5) is usually an add on to Lofts 1 & 2. It has a sliding glass door. The bathroom is a few feet away from the door to loft 5; is nothing fancy but is fully functional. This is a basic, no-frills room, and is priced accordingly.

Studio 410 is a tiny hideaway mere blocks from downtown. You feel like batman as you drive down the alley and pull into your own secret covered parking! Enjoy your shaded outdoor area surrounded by a privacy fence or chill out in the studio’s living area. There’s a small kitchen with everything you need for light cooking as well as a charcoal grill. The cozy sleeping loft is up a ladder, it has windows, a window unit ac and a queen-sized bed.
It’s cute but funky, y’all!

The space
This casita was originally an adobe single story structure that was remodeled, and an addition was built to house the former tenant’s mother-in-law. In 2020 the home was purchased by local businesswoman Jenny Hatch who had just started a record label and the little casita became a studio for Ross Fleming, her label’s only artist. Ross wrote songs and practiced guitar in the little house without interruption or bothering anyone. It’s completely private and very secure.

The Loft - the queen bed is up the ladder in the loft with only 5”3” ceilings. It's super cozy for reading or sleeping but not great for walking around! Back down the ladder is 8’ ceilings, plenty of room to stretch.

WARNING: The studio is only for those who can climb steep ladders and watch their heads under a low ceiling! Not for children under 12.

The carport is yours exclusively, as well as the outdoor fenced area.

At the tipi, we provide some heaters but if the outside temperature is cold - pack warm clothes accordingly (don't expect the heating solutions to keep you fully warm); same in the heat of summer, even if 1-2 tower fans to keep it cooler inside. This is all part of the experience - we do not give refunds for weather related concerns.

During the colder months: one heated mattress pad on queen bed, 2 electric blankets, 1 electric fireplace & 1 tower heaters are available in tipi. Guest access
You will have access to almost 30 acres. Nearly 2 miles of nature trails. Enjoy bird and wildlife watching, geode/stone hunting, and meditation. Shared activity area with 4 hammocks, corn hole and tether ball setup. Nature trails and activity area are shared with other guests.

The outdoor bath and kitchen are shared with Explorer's Hideout guests when present.

Hosts live on property and are quickly available for any needs. Each space was created with privacy in mind - perfect space for secluded feel for R&R but close to city amenities when needed while in Big Bend.
