Good food. " - "Great property with so much cool history. The javalinas wander around in the morning looking for food and are unbothered by the guests. The food at the bad rabbit was great and staff very friendly. One small negative was that the cabins have thin walls so you can hear your snoring neighbors. That won’t deter me from coming back though. "

A newly-built guesthouse with the feel of the Old West.
We are located far enough out of Alpine to give you a rural feel, but in reality being just minutes from downtown, this studio guesthouse gives you the best of both worlds. This is our guesthouse, and sits approximately 30 feet from our house. The patio shown is part of our house, and is therefore a shared space with the owners. However, we are very respectful of your privacy, and all of the facilities are yours to use during your stay.
Sit out on the large covered porch and enjoy watching the quail and other wildlife, or visit with our own assortment of livestock. We are pet-friendly, and can even board horses for a small fee.
After you have enjoyed your day, relax around a fire in the fire pit, or soak in the hot tub while watching the sky for shooting stars and satellites. If you feel like cooking outside, there is a gas grill available, or you can BBQ over the fire in the fire pit.
Inside the guesthouse, you will experience the warmth of rustic and the comfort of modern from the custom-built cedar furniture and cabinetry to the knotty-pine vaulted ceiling, along with the wall of windows opening onto a fantastic view of Alpine against the mountains. The kitchen has a full-size refrigerator, sink, cook-top, and pantry. It is equipped with a microwave, toaster oven, automatic coffee-maker, toaster, and cooking utensils.
The queen-size custom-built bed has plenty of storage space under it in case you want to stay awhile. There is also a couch that also serves as a twin XL bed, with the linens stored under the couch.
The television is a 42-inch flat screen with satellite service.
The guesthouse is climate-controlled with a whisper-quiet heating and cooling system.
The modern, spacious bathroom includes a large walk-in shower, and a vanity with plenty of counter space. There is also a hair dryer, and an iron and ironing board.
If we are booked, or you are looking for something a little bigger, please check out our sister property, listing #923603.
Come stay outside the box, and experience the true West Texas.

I will definitely be booking this beautiful peaceful place with breathtaking views again. If you're a writer, you will LOVE this place and the hosts." - "This place is stunning! A newly-built (just completed on 9/26/2016) guesthouse in the heart of the Old West. We also own and manage the sister property #454664. Please check out the wonderful reviews. There are no shared walls between the two properties, and they each have their own entrance.
We are located far enough out of Alpine to give you a rural feel, but in reality being just minutes from downtown, this bungalow guesthouse gives you the best of both worlds.
Sit out on the large private patio and enjoy watching the quail and other wildlife, or visit with our own assortment of livestock. There is a 6-foot privacy fence around the majority of the patio. The patio also has a 22x5-foot long sitting area that is open to our pasture to the south. You can sit out, drink your coffee, and watch the sun come up. We are pet-friendly, and can even board horses for a small fee.
After you have enjoyed your day, relax around a fire in the fire pit, or soak in the hot tub while watching the sky for shooting stars and satellites. If you feel like cooking outside, there is a brand-new KitchenAide gas grill available, or you can BBQ over the fire in the fire pit.
As you enter the bungalow, you see the attention to detail. The room has a contemporary feel, with a strong accent of the industrial age. The main room is very open, with a kitchen that comes well-equipped with high-end stainless steel appliances. It has a full-size refrigerator, double-bin sink, a very nice gas cook-top, a large convection microwave, and a dishwasher . It also has a toaster oven, automatic coffee-maker, and everything you would need to cook a wonderful meal. There is a breakfast bar that seats 4 people. It adds extra counter top space, or you can enjoy your meals there.
The living area has two large couches that double as XL twin beds. Just pull off the back cushions, put the sheets on, and you are ready for bed. The linens are stored in the space below the couches. The dining room table seats 4 comfortably, and is made from an antique drafting table. There is a 40-inch television set in the living area.
The bedroom is very spacious. It has a king-size bed, a dresser with two large drawers for folded clothes, an armoire to hang clothes, and a built-in luggage rack. There is also a 40-inch television set in the bedroom.
The bathroom has a very spa-like feel, from the tile work and the stainless steel accents to the two vessel sinks and the endless counter top space. The walk-in shower is the the size of a tiny house, with lots of room to move around. This bathroom has to be experienced to be appreciated.
There is a stackable washer and dryer, as well as a separate closet to hang your clothes. Other amenities include an iron and ironing board, another portable luggage rack, and a Pack-and-Play for those with small children.
The guesthouse is climate-controlled with a whisper-quiet heating and cooling system.
Check-in time is 4PM. Check-out time is 11AM. There is a $10/guest per night fee for more than two people.
If you are looking for a smaller, more intimate space, please check out our other property, 454664.
Come stay outside the box, and experience the true West Texas.

A beautiful property, with established "Premier Hosts" - pictures have been updated!
Enjoy a 2 bedroom, 2 bath upstairs barndominium apartment on 107 acres of pristine Desert wilderness, nestled in a valley between awe-inspiring mountains. Witness the most amazing sunrises, sunsets and star shows anywhere! See the Milky Way in all it's glory in our "dark skies" territory and from the brand new 6-person hot tub ("hot" in the winter - a "cooling pool" in the summer - you adjust the temperature to meet your preferences).
This location (45 min from BBNP) allows the enjoyment of a huge assortment of wildlife viewing - migratory birds of all colors, shapes and forms, dove, quail, ravens, red-tail hawks, mule deer, javelina, rabbits, fox, wolves, and even an occasional black bear, bobcat or mountain lion. In addition to the wildlife, visitors have enjoyed marveling at the wide and diverse array of plant and cactus life!
Another bonus is that this location provides miles of primitive walking/hiking/biking/ATV opportunities. Be sure and inquire about special excursions offered by the hosts.
If visitors choose to fly-in, to the nearby landing strip, the hosts will gladly assist with transportation (please inquire ahead-of-time).
The apartment is rustically furnished with brand new custom ordered furnishings, including queen-size beds/mattresses. Also, found in the apartment is a TV in each bedroom and living room, on-site Fiber Optic 5G WIFI, outside lounging furniture on a viewing deck as well as on the ground floor patio. A full-size stove/oven, refrigerator, counter-top ice maker, microwave, filtered drinking water, coffee pot, dishes, pots & pans, linens, towels, washer & dryer (bring your own laundry soap) and an outdoor gas grill are all provided. Tabletop heater and a fire pit are also available to ensure the enjoyment of the outdoors, even on cooler evenings. This discount is offered only when the qualifying person is present (please notify hosts, at time of booking, and be prepared to present ID card). We will text you specific driving instructions to the property just prior to your arrival but please be aware that the last 3 miles is a well maintained gravel road.
- "Hosts were very hospitable and friendly. They provided helpful and timely instructions on getting to the property. Be prepared for a drive but it’s all part of the experience. Great outdoor and indoor amenities!" - "This place is phenomenal. Beautiful dark skies at night and great sun rises and sunsets. Mark is a wonderful host and was very informative. We plan on another trip to Casita de Chiles again!! Thanks!" - "The place was very comfortable to stay at. Our hosts gave us a tour of the place to let us know where things were located. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware and utensils. There's plenty of outdoor seating as well and at night you're able to see all of the stars. It is about an hour from Big Bend, so it's not too far. One thing to note is that the last 2 miles from the property is on gravel road so bring an appropriate vehicle and not a sedan :). I will definitely stay here again in a future visit to Big Bend."

Furnished in a western style with modern flair, the house is built for comfort and relaxation indoors and out. Thick adobe walls and efficient heat and air keep it cozy in any type of weather. The large front porch and screened dining porch provide shade from the heat and protection from flying insects. The carport will protect your car from desert sun and storms. The main bedroom has a queen bed and its own AC and heater for a perfect night's sleep. The second bedroom also has a queen bed and is located beside the living room. The kitchen is equipped with everything you would typically need to prepare and serve most meals. Enjoy your meals in the rock floored dining room or on the dining porch. Relax in the comfortable living room, the bedrooms, one of the porches, around the fire circle, or on the double hammock.
We can comfortably lodge four adults on the two queen beds. Dogs are also welcome. If you have a larger group, consider renting multiple homes. Dos Corazones, Crystal Valley, Terlingua Ranch Retreat, Ringtail Cabin, Texas Home, and Desert Aura are all just a short drive away.
We recommend bringing a good book, or select one from our bookshelves, many about Terlingua and the Big Bend region. Just kick back and enjoy the solitude inside or out. Of course, there are lots of other activities to keep your stay busy and exciting. Watch the abundant birds, wildlife, and desert plant life on our twenty acres or as you walk, bike, or drive along the hundreds of miles of dirt and rock roads of the 200,000 acre Terlingua Ranch. Sign in at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge and hike along the remote and breathtaking trails through the Christmas Mountains. Visit Big Bend National Park (just 30 minutes to the west gate) or Big Bend Ranch State Park (just 45 minutes to the Barton Warnock Visitor Center). Enjoy meals, drinks, live music and more at the various restaurants and bars in the area. Sit out at night to watch the stars, tell tall tales, or enjoy a small fire. Drive along some of the most scenic roads in Texas. Raft or canoe down the Rio Grande. Enjoy a guided horseback ride or jeep tour through the rugged west Texas landscape.
With so many options, you can return home as relaxed or exhausted as you choose. Either way, you'll “getaway” from everyday life and bring back countless memories.
The Neighborhood:
TERLINGUA RANCH: Located between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park and including much of the town of Terlingua, Terlingua Ranch is a private subdivision of over 190,000 acres, divided into 9,500 tracts owned by about 5,000 individuals and crisscrossed by 1,100 miles of dirt and rock roads. Tracts range from five acres to several hundred acres. It is some of the most rugged and scenic land in Texas.
Back in the 1960’s, the Ghost Town and much of what later became “Terlingua Ranch” was owned by racing legend and car designer extraordinaire, Carol Shelby and some of his friends. The decided to promote the area by holding a chili cook-off in the then abandoned Ghost Town. That little stunt of a cook-off grew into CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) which now hosts nearly 500 chili cook-offs around the nation and internationally, all leading up the championship cook-off every year in Terlingua. Shelby and friends later subdivided the Ranch and started selling it off to hunters and rugged naturalists. Over the decades, the area was reborn and an eclectic community of nature lovers, artists, musicians, adventurers, and folks just wanting to escape from “civilization” has grown and started to resettle this rough country.
People have come and gone. New buildings have risen while others have fallen, Dreams have been realized and others crushed. Through it all, the land remains. The harsh desert and vast openness encourages positive development and slowly swallows up and recovers from past abuses. The old cinnabar mine sites and ranching outposts persist as relics and ghost towns, some redeveloped, some carefully preserved, and others dissolving back into the desert. Abandoned dreams eventually become points of interests for those of us that stumble upon them decades later. Terlingua Ranch is a bizarre mix of old and new, good and bad, growth and decline, all completely unregulated. Modern homes with high values and stunning designs stand beside dilapidated do-it-yourself mistakes and abandoned ruins of the 1800’s and early 1900’s.
The landscape is even more varied than the people and the structures. Rugged mountains, deep canyons, wild arroyos, dry and wet creeks, peaceful valleys, breathtaking badlands, moonscape like mud flats, the remains of ancient volcanoes, and fossilized ancient seabeds. All of it nurturing a vast array of plant life and wildlife. Around every corner and over every hill lies new and unexpected surprises.
The Ranch is now home to a few hundred hardy souls. It is also dotted with a diverse array of vacation rental lodging options and campsites. Like the diverse land, they range in quality, style, value, and price. A few are amazing dream destinations. Some are good places to sleep. Others are the stuff of nightmares. (We don’t manage any in the nightmare category.)
Big Bend Vacation Rentals started out in 2007 and initially managed three of the first four vacation rentals in the Terlingua and Terlingua Ranch area. We now manage dozens out of a couple of hundred options. We represent dozens of property owners and have hosted tens of thousands of guests. You can trust us as managers, and you can rely on the properties that we manage. We have become very selective about the properties and the property owners that we add to our portfolio.
Interaction with Guests:
We manage several properties and live several miles away. We are available by phone, text, email, or messaging. We are typically only on site for cleaning or maintenance issues.
- "Amazing scenery, peaceful. Nothing but the sounds of nature." - "Private location with beautiful views. Thunderstorms each evening were breath-taking. Hosts provided all the water we needed. Easy drive to the national park and surrounding area/activities. Terrific directions. Rugged driveway, not for a low-slung car." - "We really enjoyed the front porch, very private, beautiful views and quiet. Watching lots of birds, and even javalina's came walking by. It was further away from Terlingua as we thought, based on the vrbo app, but worth it. Directions were clear, but written for driving from the north. However we drove from the south, since we stayed in Chisos first. We loved our stay a lot!"

- "We saw and enjoyed exactly what we'd read in the property description and ammenities listed. So appreciative of being able to bring our dog, pet friendly. She is considered family to us. The suggestions for us on how to best cool the rooms, great added detail. Very clean and simple. Bare minimum a few improvements for my 'old' eyes is to add brighter bulbs or additional light fixtures in the kitchen area. Nice location, right in town, not far from anything. Would absolutely rent again, next time we visit."

- "This place was great! It mostly had everything you needed. The sunsets were beautiful and the stars were amazing. It was nice to relax and chill. Terlingua is only 20-25 min drive away if you need supplies or just to check the town out. Big Bend about 45min to 1 hour drive away. The hosts were communicative with us and helped us with whatever we needed. We plan to come back again!" - "This is an amazing place to stay. The setting is beautiful and the home has everything you need. You need to plan ahead and bring your groceries, etc. if you are cooking, as it is not particularly close to anywhere, which is the point of staying there. Terlingua has a pretty well stocked market though 20ish minutes away, on the way to BBNP. We easily could have stayed longer! We loved the sunsets, sitting on the porch, just hanging out, and enjoying the setting. No one even minded short showers or hand washing dishes. And our days in BBNP were outstanding as well."

Beautifully custom-built adobe home designed in an elegant and classic southwestern style and nestled at the base of the Corazones Mountains. Relax and escape from daily stresses while enjoying the grandest splendor and comfort available in the Big Bend.
Dos Corazones was designed in the tradition of a grand Chihuahuan hacienda. High ceilings, rich wood work, stucco adobe walls, artful stone masonry, and elegant tile floors make every room exquisite and inviting. Many architectural items, including doors, hardware, and fixtures, were salvaged from historic buildings in Mexico, South Africa and Morocco and artfully incorporated into this wonderfully designed home. The interior décor proudly features an extensive collection of folk art, baskets, and textiles that the owners collected from their world travels.
This home is incredibly spacious. There is plenty of room for your entire group to spend time together or for each to claim their own private space. The great room features a comfortable leather sofa and chairs and is the perfect place to relax and tell stories while enjoying expansive mountain views. The den offers a touch of seclusion and is a great place to relax with a good book. The spacious dining room is ideal for sharing meals or playing games. Speaking of meals, the expansive kitchen is a great place to prepare a gourmet meal or a simple snack.
There are several fireplaces in the house. However, no fires are allowed. The chimneys have all been permanently capped. There are candle stands and candles for your use in each fireplace.
There are two large bedrooms. Each one has its own luxurious bathroom and private patio. The master suite has a king bed, a private bathroom with a large shower, and private patio with views of Sombrero Peak and the Rosillos Mountains. The second bedroom has a queen bed and a full bed, a private bathroom with a large shower. All mattresses are high quality memory foam purchased Sept 2017.
Of course, you didn’t drive all this way to stay inside. That’s why Dos Corazones has six different flagstone patios for your enjoyment. The central courtyard features a peaceful water fountain and lots of greenery. The front porch features a built-in grill and a small outdoor dining area. The two back porches offer expansive views and plenty of space to stretch out. The private porches attached to each bathroom provide a more intimate setting with privacy walls and lots of greenery.
The owner, Gillian Hennessy, lives in the nearby guest house. Feel free to introduce yourself and ask her questions about the home or area. Otherwise, she may wave and say hello, but will keep to herself and respect your privacy.
Want to see the stars at night? Well they are truly big and bright down here in the Big Bend Area. Our remoteness means there is virtually no light pollution to obscure the night sky. The Big Bend Region is recognized and celebrated for having the darkest night skies and best star gazing in the continental United States. Don’t forget to watch for the International Space Station and other orbiting satellites. They can often be spotted in the first hour or two after dusk or before dawn.
Venture into Big Bend National Park or Big Bend Ranch State Park. Visit the Terlingua Ghost Town. Check out the Christmas Mountains. Take a horseback ride or go on a river trip. Check out the local cuisine at the Terlingua Ranch Bad Rabbit Café, in Terlingua/Study Butte, the Terlingua Ghost town, or Lajitas. You won’t be disappointed. There is often live music at the famous La Kiva Bar and Grill, the Starlight Theatre, High Sierra Bar and Grill, or the Terlingua Ranch Bad Rabbit Café. There are so many things to see and do you won’t be able to see or do it all.
Stay as busy as you like or just relax and unwind. When you leave Dos Corazones you can be as rested and refreshed, or as exhausted and inspired, as you like. Don’t worry about fitting everything into one trip. We’ll be glad to welcome you back again and again.

This el viejo (old adobe) sits directly across the street from the beautiful Sul Ross State University campus and just a few blocks from downtown Alpine. This is a great basecamp while exploring all that Alpine and Big Bend have to offer. Marfa and Fort Davis are short drives away with beautiful scenery in between.
This location is not suitable for children under 12.
This old adobe sits on land, once part of the W.B.Hancock Ranch which was located just East of the original townsite of Alpine, Texas. After decades of witnessing cowboy and ranch life, this quiet old adobe was on land to be annexed into the town, after Mr. Hancock gave 100 acres for the establishment of Sul Ross State College on “Hancock Hill”.
Located across the street from the beautiful campus of Sul Ross State Univ. (and the Museum of the Big Bend), this old adobe guest house is easily accessible to downtown and restaurants. Only thirty minutes from Ft. Davis, or Marfa, or Marathon, and only an hour and a half hours from the Big Bend National Park, this is a great place to stay!
The living room has a small sofa and two sitting chairs. It has a tv with an Amazon Fire stick to login into your own entertainment apps. (Netflix etc.) Remember to logout before checking out!
Guests may park in the parking lot to the south of the property and access the front porch and side patio.

The Boca de la Roca cabin is built on 81 acres of private desert mountain property (no neighbors, no highways, no noise), and is nestled at the base of our 4,700-foot mountain - in the most majestic mountain range in Big Bend. The cabin is surrounded by mountains, large mesas, cacti, and other eye-catching desert scenery. All of Big Bend is beautiful, but we undoubtedly have the best 360-degree views of anywhere in Big Bend - hands down.
Relax and unwind with all of the creature comforts of home, and soak up the undeniably best views in Big Bend. This Terlingua lodging destination was built with an abundance of windows throughout to compliment the landscape day and night, accentuating the scenic terrain not only while outdoors, but from inside as well. The cabin is fully furnished, with a clean, luxurious, modern with an aged-elegance appeal. And it’s 100% off-grid – solely powered by El Sol.
- "We were met by Christin, one of the owners and followed her to the cabin. Would be hard to find on your own the first time but easy to return to once you have been there. Everything was exactly as described. Ross had called beforehand to go over everything and Christin took us through the property again when we arrived. Be prepared to conserve water and utilities as it is off the grid and rainwater supplied. If we hadn’t chosen this area in mid-June when temps were above 100 during the day I am sure we would have enjoyed it more. We cooked dinner and the gas stove worked well. Nicely supplied with all the kitchen tools and dishes you could need. We would rent again but next time in early Spting or Fall when not so hot. I highly recommend if you want something totally different but nice."

Summary:
Christmas Mountains Ranch is the perfect home away from home for experienced or first-time visitors to the Big Bend Region of southwest Texas. Just a half mile from the restaurant at Terlingua Ranch Lodge. Located between the lodge and the Christmas Mountains, this vacation rental cabin with 65 acres offers solitude, adventure, and convenience.
Solitude comes easy with plenty of space to get away from everyday life and crowds. No city noise or congestion, no close neighbors, and no traffic. Just the solitude of the remote Chihuahuan Desert and the Christmas Mountains. Plenty of wildlife and diverse desert plant life. We even have trees along the arroyo out back. Relax inside, with air-conditioning, comfortable, and attractive furnishings, and modern fixtures. Enjoy all day shade and 24-hour views from the comfort of the wrap around cover decks, furnished with chairs, tables, lighting, and a grill.
Adventure is in abundance with the rugged and dynamic desert landscape. Follow the marked trail down to the arroyo and watch for birds and other wildlife. Enjoy the crystal-clear water of the Terlingua Ranch pool. Hike or drive (4WD) through the Christmas Mountains (register for free access at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge) for breathtaking views. That’s all in the immediate neighborhood. Drive a little further and take in all the wonders of Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, Rio Grande River or the Terlingua Ghost Town. Local adventure outfitters offer river trips, jeep tours, guided hikes, bike rentals, horseback riding, sightseeing tours, and more.
Convenience is provided with WiFi, modern appliances, full bathroom, comfortable lodging and lodge restaurant. While the last four miles of roads are dirt, they are well maintained and easily driven by a typical car, without any need for high clearance or 4WD. We also provide easy reservation service and clear communication plus quick local service if there is ever a question, concern, or problem.
As an added bit of adventure and convenience, we even provide the option for you to fly in. The Terlingua Ranch airstrip is just a short walk away and can accommodate small private planes. Don’t worry about the noise, the strip is rarely used and only during daylight hours.
While the Big Bend region offers a wide range of lodging options for our visitors, very few vacation rentals can compare to Christmas Mountains Ranch as all-around great place to stay. The owners have taken great care to build and furnish a home base for their Big Bend visits. It was completed in 2020 and graciously opened up for others to enjoy. Our team at Big Bend Vacation Rentals is proud to manage it. As the one of the longest serving and the most established vacation rental management provider in the Terlingua Area, we are eager to serve as your host.

Visit our website at www.BigBendVacations.com.
Other Things to Note:
From Christmas Mountains Ranch it will take you approximately 45 minutes to get to the west entrance of the Big Bend National Park.
Interaction with Guests:
We manage several properties and live a few miles away. We are available by phone, text, email, or messages. We are typically only on site for cleaning or maintenance issues.
- "Beautiful and homey cabin with a great wrap around porch with a gas grill! Scenery is unbelievable!!!" - "Exceptional property! Clean and nicely appointed. Location is remote with great views and dark sky. Big Bend National Park is a little drive but this place was wonderful to return to each day. Highly recommend." - "We really enjoyed our week at this home. We thought it the perfect size for the two of us and loved the quiet and the sky at night. It was a bit of a drive to Big Bend National Park (at least an hour one way) but was worth it to stay in such a peaceful spot. The place was spotless when we arrived and the property managers were always prompt in replying and so helpful. We had a marvelous time!"

At night watch meteors fall and satellites fly overhead as you marvel at the Milky Way. Relax around the campfire with a refreshing beverage, maybe even a sausage on a stick, or better yet, some s’mores. Whatever you eat and drink around the fire ring, will go well with campfire stories, some songs, or whatever else you want to do. It’s just you and your partner, or family and friends, under a starry Texas sky.

Terlingua and the western entrance to Big Bend National Park is a short 35-minute drive away. Adventure outfitters located in Terlingua offer river trips, horseback riding, jeep tours, ATV adventures, Jeep rentals, guided hikes, and mountain bike rentals. The famous Terlingua Ghost Town is just 40 minutes away. Both the Ghost Town and the Terlingua/Study Butte area offer shopping, dining, drinking, live music, art galleries, and more. Heading another 15 minutes west from Terlingua will take you to Lajitas for more upscale dining options, a few great shops, and the chance to meet Clay Henry, the beer drinking goat that happens to be the mayor. Big Bend Ranch State Park (the national park’s wild and rugged cousin) is right there as well. Stop in at the Barton Warnock center just before you get to Lajitas for an overview of the park, museum, and a terrific book shop. Alpine, Fort Davis, Marfa, and the McDonald Observatory are also within easy day trip range.
Come on down. Enjoy the Big Bend. Do as much or as little as you like. You’ll have a memorable time and will likely start planning your return trip before you even leave. That’s great. We’ll love to have come back over and over. In fact, that’s how the owner of Crystal Mountain became the owner. He came out here so often and enjoyed staying at other Big Bend Vacation Rental properties so much that he eventually decided to acquire his own properties. He now owns Crystal Mountain One and Two and Crystal Valley, just a short drive away. He was very deliberate and considerate in incorporating all the things he enjoyed the most at other rentals, plus adding extra touches to create the ultimate Big Bend vacation home base. Now, he’s eager to share it all with you.

The whole house and 65 private acres are exclusively yours. The house next door will remain vacant, unless you add it to your rental. Contact us if you would like to upgrade to use both houses.

- "The view each morning was absolutely extraordinary! As was the evening sky! We couldn’t wait to get to get back there each day from our trip into the national park. I actually think it was the best part of our trip! Highly recommend it." - "This property is absolutely breathtaking. The home has everything you could ever need. It is well appointed and very beautiful. But, it is the location that is beyond fabulous. We have stayed in many VRBO properties across the USA and Europe. This property is my all time favorite!!! I was really sad to leave. You are in your own little valley between the peaks of the mountains. It is so quiet and peaceful. I LOVED THIS PROPERTY!!! If I am ever in this area again, I will book this property! Absolutely phenomenal!!"

The garden and seating area outside invite you to relax and enjoy listening to the birds or if you're up early, watching the deer that roam through the neighborhood. Inside, the house is very comfortable and nicely decorated. A record collection is available if you want to listen to music the old-school way. It's a great place to escape the fast pace of life to. - "Charming, clean and comfortable 2 bedrooms, one bath home in the center of everything. Hosts are amazing and very accommodating.; they even brought us some books to read when I mentioned I’d left mine at home. Well stocked coffee and snack bar. We really enjoyed our stay! My one complaint is the traffic noise which you can hear inside the house; I am noise sensitive so I had to wear earplugs at night to sleep, but my friend was not bothered by the train and traffic noise at all. We would stay here again when in Alpine!"

- "We chose this beautiful home for it location and beauty of the home." - "Property was as nice as described and probably better. We loved the solitude, view, and quiet. You are close enough to Alpine to have access to anything you might need, but away from the noise of town and traffic. The only thing lacking was a king size bed, but we knew this before we booked and that wouldn’t keep us from staying there again if we are ever back that way."

Unplug at this camping destination, perfectly situated near Terlingua and Big Bend.
This site has plenty of space for tent camping, whether camping solo or with a group. Land includes not only amazing 360 views, but also a shade structure with solar lighting, picnic table, composting outhouse, hammock posts to hang your own hammocks, fire pit and grill. BYO-tent & beer!
Views of Nine Point Mesa, Black Mountain and more and just minutes away from Little Country Burro Store.
The space
Check us out on IG @stayawhileranch
While the property does have a shade structure and outhouse, this is still considered primitive and off-grid camping. There is no electricity or water and little to none cell signal. It's the perfect place to unplug and relax while being surrounded by mountainous views with Nine Points Mesa, Black Mountain and more.
You will need to bring your own tent, food and water, hammock and other camping essentials.
The shade structure will provide relief from the sun and shelter from rain. It has solar powered lights that will turn on automatically at night and provides the perfect amount of light for sitting at the picnic table for a game of dominoes or cards while enjoying a cold drink at night. The hook and string game is also set up on one of the posts to enjoy.
You can put up two hammocks at the hammock station - a perfect place to relax and take in the mountainous views and enjoy the dark night sky. On clear nights you can see the Milky Way! Hammocks are not provided.
There is a composting outhouse that is covered. There is intentionally no door so you can take in the views of Black Mountain. Do bring toilet paper.
Two chairs are provided for use around the fire pit. You are welcome to source any kindling from the property. Please burn responsibly as winds can pick up and do not leave the property without completely extinguishing any fire. Do not burn if Brewster County is under a burn ban. There is also a grate for grilling over the campfire as well as a charcoal grill you may use. Bring your own charcoal.
There is also a bin that has misc supplies such as games (dominoes and cards), cooking utensils, extra batteries, first aid kit, and more that are available to use. Please wash any cooking supplies if using and pack everything back in before you leave.
If you need to connect to the outside world, the Little Country Burro Store is about a 10 minute drive and has wifi. It's a great place to grab more ice and other goods too. There is also the Cottonwood General Store about 30 mins away that has a larger food selection and other items. I also recommend stopping at the Porters grocery store in Alping on your way in - they have a great beer selection. There is access to a full service bathroom with showers ($2 per person), a pool to cool down in ($8.50 per person), washer/dryer (coin operated) and a restaurant at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge. The American Legion Post across the highway is a great place to have a cold drink and chat with locals.
Guest access
You will have access to all 10 acres of the property. There is room for multiple tents if traveling with a group.
The roads leading up to the property are dirt roads. To get to the property, an AWD or high clearance vehicle is not required although it is recommended if you plan on doing further exploring on the surrounding dirt roads. Monsoon season is during the summer - please be aware of the weather around your trip. In my experience, I've still been able to get to and from the property after a rain but it can make for harsh driving conditions. It is always a good idea to come with a tire plug kit and small portable air compressor.
The property is secluded. It is part of Terlingua Ranch but there's a good chance you won't come across anyone on the roads while getting to and from, but always please be respectful to our neighbors.
It can get windy - make sure you stake your tent and be aware of what you're leaving out overnight or when you leave the property.
Dogs are allowed, but be aware of the harsh environment and do not leave your dog unattended. You can often hear coyotes at night and it is mountain lion country. We often bring our black lab Mack and he has a great time, just make sure you're bringing plenty of water for your pups and check paws for cactus needles. Do keep in mind that if you plan on visiting Big Bend National Park that dogs are not allowed on the trails. Please pick up after your dog, waste can be placed with the outhouse waste.
You will notice that there are no cleaning fees added to your stay. We practice pack it in and pack it out and expect you to do the same. Take any and all trash back out with you and leave the property ready for its next guest. If the American Legion Post is open, you may be able to tip them extra and dump your trash there. You are also expected to dispose of your outhouse waste. More info about that will be provided as it gets closer to your stay and trust me, it's not as gross as it seems!
Other things to note
I tried to cover everything, but if you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out!

Please make sure to check the weather a few days prior to your arrival and it might be a good idea to bring an additional blanket if it gets chilly. If you are traveling with more people, feel free to check our other bungalows, they are located on the same property.

This casita was originally an adobe single story structure that was remodeled, and an addition was built to house the former tenant’s mother-in-law. In 2020 the home was purchased by local businesswoman Jenny Hatch who had just started a record label and the little casita became a studio for Ross Fleming, her label’s only artist. Ross wrote songs and practiced guitar in the little house without interruption or bothering anyone. It’s completely private and very secure.
The Loft - the queen bed is up the ladder in the loft with only 5”3” ceilings. It's super cozy for reading or sleeping but not great for walking around! Back down the ladder is 8’ ceilings, plenty of room to stretch.
