- "Had a great stay! The apartment was conveniently located to everything we needed, and was fully fitted with every convenience that you could need. Was very comfortable and cozy. The process to access the unit was not clearly described and required a couple of texts to figure out. Yens ended up calling after the second text and stayed on the line until he was sure we were in the unit. Across the street from the Whaling museum and only minutes from the Zieterion Theatre. breakfast just on the corner and lunch /dinner just down the street at my Favorite restaurant Cork wine and Tapas. Parking in the street or at Elm street Parking garage a few blocks away. Just few minutes walk back. No cable tv only streaming. Netflix etc.

Small but cute 1st floor apartment, 2 bedrooms (one queen bed with Nectar mattress, second bedroom has a pull out couch with full size bed). One mile to the ports, one mile to downtown, quarter mile to Clasky Common Park. Access to highways, both route 140 and Interstate 195 are very close by. Plenty of free street parking. No smoking.

This is my apartment, so there will be clothes in the closet, and food in the fridge. Other arrangements can be discussed for a longer-term stay.

There is an outdoor area with a table and string lights and fake grass. The outdoor area is shared space, but it is available for you to use.

- "We were pleasantly surprised by the ground floor apartment at Paula's place. The check-in process was easy and Paula was quick to answer questions. Paula's place is squeaky clean AND dog-friendly! Although we did not cook, there is everything there anyone would need who wanted to take advantage to the abundant seafood and traditional Portuguese foodstuffs available in New Bedford. The queen bed was quite comfortable, and the bedroom has a celling fan which I appreciated. My friend found that the sofa bed was not to her liking, but she was able to sleep well on the living room sofa. Paula very generously refunded a portion our money for the inconvenience. The fenced yard was a major plus for us as we had two dogs with us. What a luxury to be able to let them out in the morning before walking the interesting and varied streets of New Bedford! Paula's place was very clean, and the bathroom was spotless. The living room was a pleasant space where we could talk over our day and make plans for the next. We would definitely like to stay at Paula's place in New Bedford again."

•The Whalehouse has unique, historic architecture and things that have aged through time. If you love old homes, this is the place for you! If you'd like a scratch-free / modern home or hotel-like environment, this house may not be a good fit.

•The Whalehouse is located in the historic West End of New Bedford, conveniently walkable to downtown's amenities. Please note that while it is not directly in the city center, it is a bustling area so street noise is not uncommon.

•Beautiful Windmill window ACs are installed in the bedroom on the second floor. Ceiling fans are and a portable AC are installed into first floor. This historic house does not come with central air.

The Whalehouse is located in this historic West End of New Bedford –conveniently walkable to downtown's amenities. Take a walk around the neighborhood for a glimpse into the "Whaling City" past - well-kept whaling mansions and beautiful estates surround this area. Check out the historic Downtown, and our port – one of the last working fishing ports in the country!

As you arrive to The Whalehouse, you will be blown away with the ornate detailing of this historic home. The Italianate house was built in 1855 by Henry Taber, as a wedding present for his daughter Abby Taber Hunt. She and her husband and their daughter, Sarah, lived here through the 1860s. Upon moving to Western Massachusetts, they rented the home to Herman Melville's sister, Catherine Melville. The author was close with his sister and would frequent the home for visits, about 10 years after writing his famous novel, Moby Dick. As you look upon the estate, and the surrounding neighborhood, you can see how perfect Melville's words feel as he vividly describes the homes' facades. It's easy to see how he described New Bedford as "the dearest place to live in, in all New England."

History:

During the 1950's the home was transformed into part of the Swain School of Art and Design campus, serving as the painting studios for the school. If you happen to go on a tour of the Main House, the host can show you the 3rd floor and widows walk/cupola where many of the students wrote notes that are now a part of history. In 1983 the home was transformed into a popular Bed & Breakfast for about 30 years. When the current owner, Laura, purchased the home in 2015, she promised to restore the home to its former glory, and has been working on the renovation since. One thing to note is that while there is plenty of free street parking, there is no onsite parking even though we were told there was one spot available. I think this might have been due to some confusion regarding which property we had actually booked."

Welcome to Hadley House! This spacious and newly renovated 3rd floor guest suite is located in one of New Bedford's fine historic homes. Minutes from the downtown area of New Bedford and the highway; situated kitty corner to the lovely Clasky Park, with easy walking paths and beautiful light displays during the winter months. Your stay will not only be a comfortable one; it will also contribute to the extensive renovation work in our efforts to restore this amazing property to its former glory.

The guest suite at Hadley House is a spacious 3rd floor apartment. It's recently gone through some renovations including an updated kitchen. The space has simple décor that we will be adding to over time to make it truly unique as well as ongoing restoration work that your stay will help to make happen.

We are locate on a very safe street in a friendly neighborhood. But we just install a safe to you safeguard your valuable items, 28x13, enough that for your lap top. We just bought a new king bed to give you more comfort and pleasure. We are close to New Bedford Airport, a block from Highway, New Bedford Park and Ride, 50 minutes (by car) from Boston, 4 hours from Ny. We are also close to two nice plazas .We are an 8 min drive from downtown ,park Zoo and Dartmouth Mall, and Beach,(fort Taber).

You can use any room and it includes a washer and dryer in the basement.

I just remodeled a room, with a computer station in the basement, making it five rooms available now, for the same price.

The full house is at your disposição.

The apartment is accessed through a gate on the left side of the house past a modest garden space with a private entrance which opens into the kitchen. Our space offers one bedroom with a queen bed and a sofa-bed in the parlor for additional guests. The kitchen is spacious with all that you need for cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plenty of room to spread out. The exterior of the house is well-lit with motion sensor lights and security cameras and the interior has plug-in nightlight type motion lights as well. My wife and I live upstairs and are happy to help with your travel questions or concerns.

Parking is almost always available directly in front of the house for ONE guest vehicle. Please park any other guest vehicles on adjacent side streets. Please pay close attention to New Bedford’s infamous one-way streets.

Other things to note
Our house is over 100 years old so there are some quirks. We live upstairs and are available to help make your stay 100% enjoyable. The house has one thermostat and it is in our owner’s unit. We keep it toasty when it’s cold out and there are “fireplace” style space heaters in the parlor and bedroom for added heat and a touch of ambience. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you need more or less heat.
On occasion you may hear footsteps because we live on the second floor but I assure you we don’t wear clogs while bowling when we have guests:)
Please be mindful of parking. There is no parking on the side of the street with the “no parking this side of street” sign. Please allow 4-5feet from our neighbors driveway and only park one guest car on our street. Thank you in advance for your attention to these details.

The 1844 Abraham Gardener house was originally owned by a Whaling Captain. For ten years this was our family home, and we have really never stopped renovating, ha ha. When we first moved in with our kids, we didn't even have walls! Upgrades include full de-leading, tile baths, clawfoot tubs, restoring the original oak flooring and mahogany railing, 20 new, giant windows with original trim preserved, and all updated appliances.

This is a second-floor flat, so please take a look at the pictures to make sure the stairs work for you. There are 13 steep steps in the front, and another curved staircase when you get inside.

Blue bedroom: one twin bed, desk for working or drawing, and a comfy cot I am happy to set up upon request! (cot can go in any bedroom...just advise!)

Once given the lockbox code, guests enter through the locked exterior door, headup a set of stairs, and enter through Henry's front door via another locked door.

there are multiple options for parking
1. there is metered parking along street. no fee for meter parking over the weekend
2. The Elm Street parking garage is two blocks away & cost $12 per
3. The parking lot adjacent to Henry’s is available for $20 per day, must go into Carter’s Clothing next door to pay ( weekly discount $100) Up to 2 vehicles
