But even in this country paradise we are only an hour away from the urban delights of San Francisco, twenty minutes from Santa Rosa, and eight minutes from downtown Sebastopol.

From here you can easily spend your days walking, jogging or surfing at gorgeous Pacific coast beaches, hiking in old growth redwoods, discovering world class wineries, exploring the many art galleries in our neighboring towns, browsing in unique boutiques featuring the works of local artisans, biking through the vineyards, kayaking the Russian River, dining in Zagat-rated restaurants, small, local bistros or oyster bars along the coast, or just relaxing here at Apple Blossom Retreat.

The cozy, wood-shingled studio, surrounded by wisteria, apple trees, and flowers on the two-acre property is your home away from home. It is attached to our larger, country home where we live right next door, but you are completely private with your own separate entrance. Your studio and our house are separated by an 8 foot utility/laundry area. We are right here if you need anything, but we completely respect your privacy and desire for peace and quiet.

There is a small garden patio for your personal use where you can sip coffee in the morning or enjoy a glass of wine after a day of exploring hidden wineries. On sunny days, curled up in a comfy armchair with a book, you can bask in sunlight pouring through the expanse of southern exposure windows; on rainy winter days you can watch the row of poplars dance in the wind.

We’ve made the spacious living room both comfortable and beautiful, adding a few country antiques from my beloved Midwest family home. The centerpiece of the room though is a stunning, antique Japanese screen that creates your private bedroom. There you can luxuriate in the queen bed with high thread count sheets and piles of fluffy pillows. The sounds you may hear are reminders of simple, country life: the screech of a barn owl out for a night hunt, coyotes on a far away ridge yipping at the full moon, or perhaps the distant crow of a rooster. We also have Wi-Fi, cable TV, and a DVD player for those wanting to be more connected.

There is a fully equipped kitchenette with refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave, and a state of the art induction hot plate.

The studio cottage works well for a variety of Sonoma County travelers: adventurers wanting to explore the area, couples seeking a romantic retreat, or individuals seeking a quiet refuge for study, writing, artistic pursuits, or quiet contemplation.

Amy’s Local BNB is nestled among huge fir trees in a quiet neighborhood a short walk from downtown Sebastopol. This sunny contemporary gem focuses on our commitment to local and sustainably sourced food, wine, and crafts. With a full kitchen, you can enjoy the comforts of a meal cooked “at home” from the local farmer’s market, or walk to superb local eateries. We will share maps to our favorite swimming hole on the Russian River or to ocean beaches, or introduce you to excellent local vintners.

The space
Amy's Local BNB is a completely separate studio on the third floor of our home in Sebastopol. You enter via a private exterior staircase into this newly renovated space with high ceilings and wonderful views of old growth fir trees and the valley and hills beyond. As a professional contractor and interior designer, we have taken great pride in the quality of the design and construction. The full kitchen has top quality appliances, and we have included a full complement of cooking and serving wares. There is a comfy king bed and a washer/dryer. You will have super fast fiber optic WiFi and an Apple TV to use with your own streaming services. (No cable or local TV stations).

There is a hot tub and a private back patio with a gas grill available for guests from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Coffee (3 options for making coffee: pour over, french press, or standard drip) or tea, with organic additives of your choice, and fresh home-baked gluten-free pastries are complimentary each morning. As an extra service, we can provide full breakfasts or fresh eggs from the girls in the backyard.

Our back yard is a permaculture micro-farm. We have installed large rainwater storage tanks that provide irrigation water for the fruit and vegetable gardens, and a seasonal swale, with native plants, that soaks water into the ground. We are creating a full-circle ecosystem with kitchen scraps feeding the chickens, to compost, to gardens, and back to the kitchens. Come be part of our nourishing circle.

We believe that our vacation rental should not negatively impact the planet and therefore have implemented steps to reduce waste and decease our carbon footprint. We provide bulk soap and shampoos some taken from cardboard packaging, use compostable trash bags, and use bamboo toilet paper and 100% recycled paper towels in plastic free packages. We have a large solar installation with electric heat pump HVAC system and water heater. We have used renewable building materials such as cork and linoleum flooring. Wherever possible we use fair trade and organic linens and always use scent free laundry soap.

Our newly renovated marble tile shower from floor to ceiling is a luxurious experience. Brand new high end custom oak cabinetry with hidden TV, desk, mood lighting, and plenty of guest storage gives such a luxe vibe.

While our listing is pet friendly, please let me know if you’re planning on bringing a dog (or other pet) as that helps me prepare and determine whether additional services might be needed.

You will have full use of this private studio and parking in the driveway or street. Please note that the studio is up two flights of stairs and is not handicap accessible. A hot tub and patio with a small BBQ and bistro table is available for all guests.

We have air conditioning in the unit, but the temperature is rarely above 80 in Sebastopol and cool breezes from the coast make for great sleep.

Other things to note
We are about 25 minutes from both the Russian River and the coast. There are wonderful small wineries in Sebastopol and the surrounding Sonoma County hillsides. We are about 45 minutes from Napa Valley, and about an hour and half to San Francisco.

We are situated in a rural area in West County. It's close enough to downtown Sebastopol, but also peaceful and quiet and lush with plants and fruit trees. I have one bedroom and one full bathroom. There is a kitchenette with a microwave, electric pot, toaster and mini fridge. There is a feeling of being in Italy with the lovely outdoor seating areas. My house is a hand built Adobe house made with over 7000 bricks by the previous owner. The walls are thick and keep cool during summers.
