The term "Rosie the Riveter" was actually first used in 1942 in reference to the WWII female workforce supporting the war effort. This old Shipyard Worker's Apartment served Mare Island workers for WWI and WWII. Sitting on the 3rd floor of an 1890 Victorian the unit boasts updated amenities in a "shabby chic" style with a color scheme reminiscent of its unique past.

Sleeping accommodates 6 adults with 1 bedrooms (with 2 full double beds) plus a sofa sleeper in the living space. The bath has a shower over tub and kitchen is fully equip, including a portable dishwasher. There is space to eat in the dinette or bar counter in the kitchen. A toddler bed can be set up upon request and there is one high chair available.

You have exclusive use of the entire unit. Outside there is a small deck common space with table/chairs in the yard and a BBQ. All essentials are included. Unit complies with smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, first aid kit and fire extinguisher.

The unit is rustic and that is what lends to its charm. We recognize the uniqueness appeals to different people but know that we work hard to maintain the unit by routinely cleaning the carpets, curtains and furniture. A clean and healthy vacation rental is your right and our obligation! We pride ourselves in providing sleeping accommodations that are protected with mattress AND boxspring total encasements ("Bug Blocker" brand) for your complete peace of mind. The property is also thoroughly cleaned prior to the arrival of every guest and our goal is to provide an impeccably clean and comfortable space for your visit. This routine includes laundering all the linens (whites are bleached with traditional bleach & colors bleached with color safe alternative bleach), polish all table tops, vacuum all carpeting, wash (mop with sanitizer) all the floors, sanitize all the countertops with a bleach additive cleaner, and clean the bathroom entirely including bleaching the toilet, sink, tub & floor. The cleaning fee imposed at booking covers linen service and sanitary cleaning but does not dispense with the customary expectation that before departure you remove trash, clean up after yourselves (spills), wash/put away dishes/dishware and leave the unit tidy (broom swept condition). Extra cleaning is charged at $30 per hour.

Booking this space is an agreement that you are responsible for damage to the unit and furnishings (calculated at market rate replacement cost). Insurance is made available at booking if you desire but you accept the risk of liability should you decline it. Please also understand that this unit is made available as a vacation rental unit, not an event space. No parties are to be held on site without a separate written agreement detailing the purpose and cost. Booking constitutes agreement that ignoring this provision will result in tripling the rental rate, plus a $700 surcharge plus supplemental cleaning expense at $30 per hour. Any holdover of the unit (remaining in residence beyond your agreed final date & time) also constitutes agreement under your booking to payment of damages (that may be incurred for incoming guests not able to take up residence) and the tripling of the rental rate plus a $700 surcharge together with supplemental cleaning expense at $30 per hour.

The bus terminal is 3 blocks away which allows public transit access throughout Vallejo, neighboring communities and BART (the subway). The BayLink Ferry to San Francisco is a short walk to the Vallejo waterfront.

After 2 years of the biggest labor of love of my life, I have finally finished structurally retrofitting this 100 year old house (built in 1924) and adding a whole NEW apartment to the lower level of my home. If I do say so myself, it is a stunning, magical and comfortable space designed in a Moroccan/Turkish themed space. Each piece, material and layout is completely bespoke. You will enjoy a very unique stay.

Inside the apartment, you will find a colorful and unique space to relax in. This includes a kitchenette set up with a coffee maker, electric kettle, mini fridge, microwave, toaster, cutting boards, dishes, glasses, and utensils like flatware, wine & can opener, cheese grater etc. It does not have a stove or hot plate. The first 5 guests will receive an additional and delicious amenity.

There is Wifi via fiber internet and a smart TV in the comfortable living room. The expandable dining table offers a space to work from home.

The beds are memory foam and plush (even the murphy bed). There is room for storage of clothes and a space to hang them up.

The bathroom shower is something to be seen and experienced in person (which I designed and tiled myself).

You will have the whole lower level to yourself including a private patio. I am a professional landscape architect so designing my own garden was a given. It was newly installed as of October 2024.

There are a few outdoor cats that lounge around in the back yard. They are all very chill and one in particular is very friendly.

While Vallejo might not be as typically sought after as Napa or SF, it is very central to both and can offer charming local food, drinks, and nearby sights and activities. The apartment is a 4 minute drive to the ferry that takes you straight in to the city and a 20-25 minute drive in to Napa. I lived in SF for 8 years so I can offer some suggestions there if you'd like. Vallejo has a lot of history and culture and is also home to the Bay Area artist E-40 who grew up a few blocks away.

The Red Gate is an upscale studio apartment with combination lock for easy check-in. It sits in a lovely, quiet cul-de sac. The entire downstairs apartment is separate and totally private with no access to or from the upstairs unit.
Avoid the Bay area traffic, leave your car at home, and head to the ferry (7 minutes from here) to San Francisco or drive 13 miles to Napa or 17 miles to Sonoma. Nearby flat walking trails or be brave and try the hill outside our door.

Located in the Heritage District, Eldritch House is conveniently located 10 minutes from Six Flags, Kaiser, and Sutter hospitals, 30 minutes from Oakland, Berkeley, and Napa, and about an hour from Sacramento (driving) or San Francisco (driving or ferry).

The Garden Suite is a private unit attached to Eldritch House with its own bedroom, full bathroom, and kitchenette. The unit gets lots of light, with French doors opening into the deck and a skylight in the bedroom.

The bedroom has a queen size bed, as well as two full size folding foam mattresses (perfect for kids!).

The kitchen has an induction cooktop, microwave, toaster oven, and mini fridge, as well as a coffee maker and electric kettle. We provide coffee and tea. You're also welcome to use the propane grill on the patio.

The Garden Suite is the perfect spot for a work trip. We provide high speed internet and a desk overlooking the garden. It's conveniently located near several area hospitals, making this a great spot for travel nurses.

Eldritch House is a grand dame of a house, built in 1898. She sits at the base of the historic Capitol Street steps in Vallejo, a few blocks from vibrant downtown Vallejo. Enjoy fresh produce from the Farmer's Market every Saturday morning, dine at a Micheline restaurant, or check out local artisanal shops such as Anchor Pantry. If you'd like to explore all that the Bay has to offer, Vallejo is a great base camp for day trips to wine country, the Santa Cruz boardwalk, John Muir Redwoods, San Francisco Giants and Oakland A's stadiums, and more.

The Garden Suite is private for you and your guests, although access is limited to the people listed on the reservation. You are invited to enjoy the shared backyard space, which includes two decks, a grassy area, and a patio with a propane grill. I live on the property, along with my 11 year old, so I'm able to respond to most questions or issues with the unit very quickly. You might see us in the yard or hear us making meals, as the garden suite shares a wall with our kitchen.

Please note that the house is not accessible. There is a flight of 25 stairs from the street to the house, and 12 stairs from the bedroom to the bathroom.

The room gets early morning light from the skylight and windows. I provide blackout curtains for the windows in the bedroom, and an individually wrapped sleep mask and ear plugs. The house is located in an urban area, and there may be noise from traffic, emergency vehicles, or occasional fireworks. The room shares a wall with the main house. If you are exceptionally light or noise sensitive, this may not be a good fit for you. There is an outdoor cat who is very friendly and affectionate, and loves to get all the scritches.

The space
Your Zen studio is a large and comfortable 450 square feet. This is a space where you will find many beautiful artworks created by the owner. This is designed as a quiet retreat for couples or friends. We have a small kitchenette for you and we make sure that you have all items you may need for reheating meals out or making an easy breakfast. It comes with a kettle, a microwave, a griddle, and a full sink and fridge. If there are any special requests, please feel free to ask. We live only 15 minutes away from the studio and are always available to help. Our guests are able to access the laundry room if you are on an extended stay, please contact us for more info. We do provide WIFI and TV and encourage guests to play the mindfulness game provided.

Safety/Crime etc.: This is a developing area. We have never had a guest's vehicle broken into, or any of our hundreds of guests be a victim of any crime, but we strongly recommend you do not leave valuables in your vehicle. Additionally, as is true with most of the more vibrant art areas of neighboring Oakland and Berkeley, these are transitioning areas that are safe and dynamic but NOT a gated community and can look a little rough from the outside sometimes. If you require a more gated community environment, you would be best to book elsewhere. That being said if you are interested in a non-sterile environment with a dynamic artist community and a rich waterfront district, you will love it here! Enjoy music at the Mare Island Brewing with the sunset epic view and enjoy farmers markets on Saturday, and 2nd Friday art walks.

Guest access
Your studio room has a private entrance on the first floor and full access to the downstairs space. Please do not walk up to the stairs inside the upstairs home. The back entrance through the gate is reserved for our long-term tenants and is off-limits. If you are staying longer than a week, ask us about laundry access and the garbage area.

• Parking and transportation: You can park on the street in front of the house. If you want to explore the City, the ferry to downtown San Francisco is only a 5-minute walk.
Other things to note
Vallejo is centrally located about 20 miles from Napa and Sonoma wine country and about 30 miles to downtown San Francisco. The Sierras Nevada mountains are a few hours away by car. This is an ideal location to make as a base camp to visit the whole Bay area.

• Hosts always recommended taking a ferry from San Francisco to Vallejo during sunset. You will have an unforgettable experience.
