Enjoy tiny farmhouse life in this adorable 375 sq. foot cottage. Loaded with everything you need this little cottage is nestled privately behind some trees on our 11 acre farm. You will soon forget how close you are to town with the beautiful view from your windows and the pasture fence just steps out the back door. The space
We have a few animals on our property, some contained...like the horses, donkey, goats and chickens and others free roaming like our dogs and cats. The dogs and cats are very friendly and will always want to greet whoever comes to stay. Feel free to say hello to the horses and goats from the outside of their space and if you would like to get a little closer just flag me down when I am outside or send me a message.

Unfortunately, if animals are not your thing our place may not be the best for you.

Welcome to Campos Tranquilos: a cozy, one bedroom, one bath cottage makes you feel at home. Setting just outside of Carbondale ,IL, guests enjoy the relaxing country setting only 5.3 miles from SIU, near downtown Carbondale, and close to the So. Illinois Wine Trail. Giant City Park is less than 5 miles down the road with it's many beautiful hiking trails. The space is on 14 acres, please come to relax and enjoy the wildlife. Our goal is to provide a comfortable retreat for all.

The space
One bedroom, one (tiny) bath apartment, with comfortable living space and kitchen built in a barn like building. Enjoy the peace and quiet of a safe and beautiful property, while being minutes from town. Walk around the two ponds and watch for deer - or simply look out one of the windows and you will likely catch a glimpse of them. Drink a glass of wine or cup of coffee while sitting in our little "gazebo", surrounded by Flowers and looking at the feeders, while squirrels and other woodland creatures scamper about. At night, you will often hear the calls of coyotes, and if you're lucky, you may glimpse a red Fox. We Have WiFi.
Plenty of Parking space for Boats, Trailers or RV's.

While we share a driveway, your place is a separate building with it's own private entrance. You will have complete access to the apartment and freedom to walk the property. Fishing is permitted in our 2 Ponds. (We ask that you respect the privacy of the other main house, especially after dark) . The rest of the barn is used for private storage.

The dock is located between 2 other rentals. You must walk between these two properties to access the dock. All 3 rentals are owned by the same person and managed by Southern Illinois Vacation Rentals.
This property is a 3-car garage conversion that sits on the opposite side of the driveway as the main house.

A spacious respite nestled in the woods but only 10 minutes from town, and a mile from the SIU Campus. Rest up in your large master guest room with queen and double beds, lush linens, high ceiling and whitewashed wood floors, and wake up to a hearty homemade breakfast served daily in the Tea Room.

The space
The country house is set off the main road on six acres of wood land. There's a large driveway with plenty of parking space.

A few feet from the property is the much-loved Chautauqua Bottoms nature trail, cultivated and maintained by the volunteer Green Earth Foundation, with lovely paths along tree-lined walking trails and bridges surrounded by Southern Illinois' native plant and spectacular bird life.

From its inception, the B&B is designed for get-away comfort, and is easily accessible by car from 5 neighboring states! You'll relax with inspired rejuvenation and a connection with nature in a spacious, well-kept home with warm British hospitality. It's also ideal for longer stay remote workers who enjoy the calm and peace of country life.

A hearty home-made breakfast is served daily in the Tea Room, where there's also a fridge for your personal snacks, a hot water urn with Nespresso coffee, tea, and other refreshments and a hand-washing sink. This cabin is in the village of Alto Pass, in the Shawnee National Forest and along the Southern IL wine trail. Adjacent to a Victorian home, it is a separate cottage, renovated in 2017-18, with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, washer/dryer, fully-equipped kitchen, dining/living area, TV (Amazon/wifi), and deck with views of woods and valley. (The couch's foot rests work by plugging in the couch and are in good working condition.)

Rated in “Top 1%” by Airbnb, the Pool House is a separate cottage surrounded by gardens and swimming pool, with retro "Danish Modern" furniture, a gourmet kitchen and plush beds. We have recently added a Finnish Sauna and Japanese Ofuro Soaking Tub. We accept well behaved dogs for a fee of $35 a night.

We allow only guests and friends of the Pool House on the grounds, gardens or pool.

The Pool House has a 50,000 gallon in-ground, unheated, swimming pool open year round with a Finnish sauna and a Japanese Ofuro soaking tub. There is an extensive herb, vegetable, and flower gardens which the guests are encouraged to use, a fire pit, a charcoal grill, and a gas grill for outdoor grilling. Equivalent in size to several hotel rooms there is a master bedroom with a king-size bed, kitchen, sitting area, 2 workspaces with desks. The upstairs has a queen-size futon couch and a twin-size air mattress, a 55" tv and space for family board games. There are two high speed wifi routers positioned at either end of the building.

Well mannered dogs are welcome for a fee of $35 per night.

We welcome children, with a high chair and gate for the bottom of the stairs for young children. Please note that there is no barrier at the top of the stairs and while the porch is fenced and gated, there is no fence around the pool, so young children should be closely supervised. We ask that guests let us know the ages of their children to better anticipate their needs.

The Pool House is inspected annually by City Neighborhood Services and the Carbondale Fire Department for health and safety. It passed all of the inspections and has been issued Carbondale Vacation Rental License No. VRU-20-06. Carbondale requires vacation rentals to be sited on the property of the resident homeowner.

Guests have access to the entire Pool House with keyless entry. The kitchen is stocked with herbs, condiments, oils, and other cooking essentials. A full set of tri-ply stainless cookware, baking dishes, and kitchen tools are provided. The pool and extensive gardens are open to guests to enjoy...take a dip and pick some vegetables and herbs for lunch. There is a table and 6 comfy chairs for al fresco dining in the garden.

A short drive west on Illinois 13 (Main Street) takes you to Murdale with a marvelous International Grocery, the Neighborhood Coop (natural foods), a green grocer, and, in the adjoining West Town Mall, the 43-year old Saturday morning Farmers' Market. The mall area with big box stores is equally close on Illinois 13 East (Walnut St.).

A winter farmers market is held on Saturdays in the High School on E. Walnut Street.

The Shawnee Hills lie just south of town. It has many hiking trails through stunning rock formations strewn with early spring wildflowers, the Shawnee Wine Trail, and fruit and vegetable farms and farmsteads.

There are several breweries in the area, including the unique (and famous) farmhouse Scratch Brewery.
