The space
We are located 1 mile from picturesque Old Town New Bern, which was named after Bern, Switzerland and founded in 1710. It is surrounded by two major rivers, the Trent and the Neuse, great for boating, fishing, live theater, lots of live music, and relaxing. It is a historical treasure with the Tryon Palace, state of the art History Center, battle field, and lovely parks. After its incorporation in 1723, New Bern served as the capital of North Carolina until Raleigh became the permanent government center in the late eighteenth century.

This fully furnished guest apartment is very private and separate, reached by an outside stairway. It overlooks a beautiful back yard from a sitting balcony. Given the stairs, deck and apartment layout, we highly recommend that guests be 12 years of age or older. The neighborhood is lovely for walking and safe. Off-street parking is directly below the apartment for convenience and set back for safety. We are in the separate big house on the property if needed.

Welcome! Booking open for May 2025 and beyond! Comfortable, quiet, 1 BR/1 BA, apartment in New Bern. This is a one story walk up above detached garage. In addition to the queen bed in bedroom we have a queen air mattress on frame and twin air mattress also available. Five miles from downtown, 1.5 miles off Highway 70, 3 miles to the hospital, & 45 min. to the beach. Grocery & shops just outside the neighborhood. Perfect for tourists, travel medical staff, business travelers, & families.

The space
Our guesthouse is above our back garage and detached from our home. It is a short walk up a stairwell with outdoor seating. The guesthouse is beautifully painted, furnished, and decorated. The kitchen is equipped with everything one might need to enjoy a night or morning in. Our guesthouse is also non-smoking.

The space
On our property are two private dwellings: our main house and the Carriage House that is over a detached garage in a separate building. Per the National Register of Historic Places, this architectural feature is harmonious with many homes in DeGraffenried Park that have separate brick construction that matches the main house. At the time the neighborhood was established, it was common to rent these these types of upper level apartments to military families.

Your private entrance opens to a small foyer with wood staircase. Multiple windows in every room bring in lots of natural light. Blackout curtains allow a sound night's sleep on the adjustable luxurious foam bed. Open plan fully stocked kitchen for the chef and novice alike. Enjoy entertainment on the Smart TV with Netflix & Hulu Live TV, with fast speed Internet. Mid-century modern sofa converts to an extra bed. Step outside, lounge & enjoy fresh air in the serene gardens.

Our dedicated workspace is a flex space customized for your stay so we can make the best use of the apartment without clutter. Just let us know if you will need to work and we will provide a comfortable work space for you with ample lighting and office supplies.

The library ladder is the only way to the loft bedroom. Rubber stoppers are provided to prevent it from sliding while climbing. A safety gate is provided in the loft should you feel more comfortable with one. Also, the bathroom is accessible through the downstairs bedroom only.
