- "Was an awesome experience and the kids loved it!! " - "Super cute place and great customer service. Cabin was really cozy. " - "Nice place that accommodated us well. 3 adults and 2 children" - "This is probably our favorite find of all time. The cabins are so gorgeous and extremely well outfitted. I didn’t want to leave. Do not miss these sweet cabins." - "Cabin was nice. Good value. " - "Staying in Wagon #1 is an experience me and my family will never forget. It is a very quaint, cozy and clean layout. The four of us slept well in their comfortable beds. The double walled heavy duty canvas of the wagon held up great. Even with a thunderstorm passing through, we had no issues with any leaks or the heat of the day, thanks to the AC. As for the bathroom (which is about a 10/15’ walk), you have your own modernized “outhouse”, that is super clean and supplies you with a full bathhouse/restroom. Our children were expecting a hotel room, but instead walked into a wagon that was very much enjoyed. Surprise! "

The stronghold of Fortress Cabin takes its name for the centerpiece of its view gazing at the Fortress Cliffs along the east rim of Palo Duro Canyon State Park, a protected six miles of cliffs overlooking the Grand Canyon of Texas. The bluff’s look the same way the first Texans saw it — unspoiled. The steep margins of the Fortress Cliffs consist of bright, banded layers of orange, red, brown, yellow, and white rocks that represent four geologic periods. Adding to the cliffs scenic grandeur are numerous pinnacles, buttes, and mesas. Doves Rest Fortress is a place of exceptional security, privacy and refuge.
Modern but rustic, this two-bedroom, two-bath cabin is immaculate and fully furnished. It features a wood burning fireplace, covered patio facing east with porch swings, fire pit and BBQ. The fully equipped kitchen offers everything you need to make you feel at home. Clean linens and towels are provided for your comfort along with extra blankets for cozy nights. A 70” T.V. in the living area makes the nights even more entertaining! Guests can unwind around the beautiful flagstone patio and enjoy the outdoor fire pit when the temperature dips. The combination of upscale amenities and stunning vistas is what makes this Palo Duro Canyon Cabin so attractive to the discriminating intrepid traveler.
- "I don’t know if I can come up with words to describe the feeling of walking onto the patio and seeing the view of Palo Duro Canyon. It is simply breathtaking! The weather was cool and we sat on the patio all evening enjoying the views then watched the stars in the sky. The beds were comfortable and the house was lovely. I will be recommending this house to everyone and we will be back!" - "The view was absolutely gorgeous. Pictures don’t do it justice. We loved the privacy and the peace and quiet, too. Great place to stay. Would absolutely recommend."

This “aerial lift” of a cabin takes its name from the Sky Ride concession that operated at Palo Duro Canyon State Park in the 1960’s. The original ride’s abutment is sitting next to this cabin reminiscent of the good-old-by-gone-days when station wagons and family vacations were the norm, and state parks were a favorite place to take them. A series of chairlift seats moved excited park visitors from the canyon floor hundreds of feet above to the top of a mesa that can be seen below from this cabin. Now, excited ChairLift cabin guests unwind and enjoy magical moments at dawn and dusk when the golden light plays over the soaring cliffs and rock spires of Palo Duro. One of the best features of the fantastic view from this cabin is the interplay of blue sky, brick-red rock and lime-green vegetation. ChairLift is the perfect Palo Duro Escape for the nostalgic and adventuress traveler.
ChairLift is a two-bedroom, two- full bath, in a very functional and cozy 1,000 sq. ft. design. The cabin features a wood burning fireplace, covered patio and built in Propane grill. The fully equipped kitchen offers everything you need to make you feel at home. Clean linens and towels are provided for your comfort along with extra blankets for cozy nights.
- "Excellent all around! Beautiful inside and out. Will definitely be back. Watched sunset, moon rise and sunrise, all from the front porch or side drive." - "We always stop here for a few days in between softball tournaments in Colorado and Dallas to relax and unwind. AMAZING views, wildlife everywhere, stars at night are unreal, and most of all quiet!! We have stayed in two units. The Fortress and Chairlift and both were fantastic. Go see the show one night at the state park!"

“Marúaweeka,”
(“Welcome” in the Uto-Aztecan language spoken by the people) to Doves Rest Cabins – Comanche!
The Comanche’s were fierce warriors who reached present-day New Mexico, the Texas Panhandle and Palo Duro Canyon by 1700. During that time, their population increased dramatically because of the abundance of buffalo. Though the tribe was large, they never formed a single tribal unit, but rather, were divided into some eight to twelve independent groups. Sharing the same language and culture, they sometimes fought, and other times at peace, cooperating one with the other, similar to the modern family today!
Comanche in their native language is “Numinu”, meaning the People. And, Comanche Cabin is just that…for the People. We are proud to bring you this newly constructed home with a universal and accessible design to accommodate a wide variety of guests. This single floor house has been specially designed to accommodate people of all ages, genders, sizes and physical abilities. 36” wide doorways and hallways, generously sized bathrooms with roll in shower, staggered height kitchen countertops, front entrance and back patio low thresholds for wheelchair ease of access are some of the notable features that make Doves Rest Cabins – Comanche accessible to the PEOPLE.
Comanche is a three-bedroom, two- full bath, in a very accessible, functional and cozy 1,440 sq. ft. design. The cabin features a wood burning fireplace, covered patio and BBQ grill. The fully equipped kitchen offers everything you need to make you feel at home. Clean linens and towels are provided for your comfort along with extra blankets for cozy nights.
Unwind and enjoy magical moments while the golden light mixed with clouds plays over the expanse of Palo Duro Canyon State Park. One of the best features of the lovely view from this cabin is the vistas one can see in an 180 degree angle.
Only 16-miles from the city of Canyon, home to West Texas A & M University and just 30-miles south from Amarillo and historic Route 66. There is plenty of shopping, restaurants, museum’s and all local amenities to enjoy in the “city.”
- "We took my grandmother to the Texas play and this was the perfect set up for us! We had four generations staying and it was a fit for all of us. Would definitely book again!" - "Beautiful house over Looking the Canyon. Everything was first rate! Welcomed by a beautiful bottle of Champagne 😊 10 minutes from the canyon park. 100 miles long second largest following the Grand canyon. Also a live musical about the history of Texas. If I could give 10 stars I would. We will all be coming back! My Aunt and Uncles-had a wonderful stay. My Aunti Lora turned 79."

- "The property manager is so kind and friendly. She showed us around the property. The horses came over and said hi to us while we were walking around. The property is just a few miles from both the canyon itself, the city called canyon, and Amarillo. We stayed during the cold storm in early January and the power actually went out for an hour or so. The manager was right there to help us out with more wood for the stove and even offered to put us up in a hotel for the night. We stuck it out and the power came back in. It just made the experience more memorable for us. We highly recommend this nice little cabin. It’s so quiet and dark at night so you can see all the stars"

Situated on the storied and historic Marshall Ranch, moments from the entrance to America’s most beloved State Park - Palo Duro Canyon, Chisholm Cabin is a destination on most traveler’s bucket list. One of the best features of the lovely view from this cabin is the proximity to the sheer edge of the canyon wall. Flint scrapers and arrowheads can still be found on this grouping of North Rim Cabins. The site where these cabins were constructed was used by Comanche’s as a “butchery,” and nearby Buffalo Draw was where the Indians drove buffalo over the cliff as a hunting technique.
Blending the West Texas legendary ranching past with the relevance of Americas second largest canyon, this cabin is sure to engage the senses and captivate the imagination of our guests. Longhorn Cattle roam the adjacent pasture and the steep margins of the canyon view consist of bright, banded layers of orange, red, brown, yellow, and white rocks that represent four geologic periods. Modern but rustic, this cabin is immaculate and fully furnished.
- "Great visit. The views from the porch and bedroom are awesome." - "Loved the Cabin. It was too cold for us to do any hiking. We are going back in a month and staying at same cabin. We hope to see more of the canyon and get in some hiking." - "Spacious, clean, beautiful location!" - "Our family stayed in the Durango & Chisholm cabins and everything was better than we could of imagined. I know this sounds over hyped but they were clean, fully stocked kitchen for Thanksgiving (they even had a Crock Pot) and a wonderful view of the canyon. The location is 3 minutes from the Park entrance and there is a new convenience store (Sad Monkey Mercantile) with a Wine bar and a place to read a couple of blocks away. The host was readily available and very helpful the couple of times we called. we will definitely rebook if we come back to the park."

There is a Roku TV. It has a window A/C unit and a panel wall heater.

- "Just the right size for a quick stay in this area. All that we needed for this trip. Location was also great." - "Amazing how much was crowded into this small cabin. We enjoyed our stay--especially seeing those enormous long horn cattle just outside our cabin." - "Perfect for the two of us right outside Palo Duro" - "Great little house! The property owners went well out of their way to ensure our stay was superb." - "The cabins are well kept and extremely cute. We loved that each cabin has a backyard of its own. The location of the cabin is amazing for a quick run into either the canyon or town. We felt like we had our own private paradise despite the other cabins close by. The hosts were always quick to answer and flexible with our arrival time. We absolutely cannot wait to book again."

Our most private and secluded Doves Rest Cabin. This amazing stone cabin is named in honor of Charles Goodnight, the legendary cattle rancher and inventor of the old-west chuckwagon. Goodnight took advantage of available grass, timber, and water near this cabin, and in 1876 founded what was to become the first Texas Panhandle ranch – the JA Ranch at Palo Duro Canyon. One of the best features of the fantastic view from this cabin is the interplay of sights of high and low mesa steeps on how Charles Goodnight entered the canyon with hundreds of Longhorn cattle. Located a mere 100-feet from the state park boundary, Goodnight Cabin is the perfect for the most discriminating guests who enjoy interweaving historical perspectives of the old-west with the modern luxury of a Doves Rest Cabin.

This destination offers the view of a lifetime only a short drive from the second-largest canyon in the United States. A quirky older cabin has been updated so it’s a glamping experience with a breathtaking view
The bathroom is tiny and with a standard shower.
Hike early and return to At Last cabin to spend the hottest part of the summer day in air conditioning, with internet and Netflix, and then enjoy an evening of stargazing away from city lights
NOT kid friendly. This property sits on the edge of a canyon cliff. It is beautiful, but not safe for children if they wander off or are not closely supervised.
This destination offers the view of a lifetime only a short drive from the second-largest canyon in the United States.
When the wind blows it feels like an intense wind tunnel. It blows large heavy things off the porch so there are cushions and tables that can be set up outdoors for evening enjoyment
The mattresses are luxury models
There is no stove; only a microwave, crock pot, coffee maker, and toaster oven.
The bathroom is small with limited counter space with a standard shower. There is an outdoor grill ( a green egg) with charcoal and an electric starter.
Enjoy the panoramic view of Palo Duro Canyon all across the horizon.
Be sure and save an evening for stargazing away from the city lights.
This is a remote location and the internet can go out during storms. AT&T is the only mobile service that works inside the cabin. Most other services work nearby but not at this exact location.
Check out the destinations in nearby Canyon, Texas. Panhandle Plains Museum is one of Texas’ largest museums and there are great restaurants and a quaint shopping town square with a farmer’s market on Sat mornings during the summer.

Allow some extra time to experience the zip line between the Palo Duro Canyon entrance and the last cabin in the private gated community.

- "We loved our stay - unprecidented views of the canyon. We even saw the rare Barbary sheep from the deck, and the herd of longhorns of all ages on the road to the house. The house is great, and the merchantile down the road is great to drop in for a quick bite or for things you may have forgot. Loved it and plan to come back!" - "Amazing view. Very clean. " - "We loved the great view of Palo Duro canyon. " - "We had an incredible stay and a very relaxing time. Wish we could have stayed longer. The scenery is one that will not be forgotten. The only area of improvement would be communication. We never received check- in instructions after booking. I sent several messages on VRBO to host. 2 days later and day of check in I texted the listed number. Reached out to VRBO. Then finally called which should have done first. Not hearing anything until check in and having to reach out so much was a little frustrating. Overall we loved it and wont forget our time there."

#3 Sunflower is one of five Wildlife Cabins at Doves Rest situated on the storied & historic Marshall Ranch, moments from the entrance to America’s most beloved Texas State Park - Palo Duro Canyon, a destination on most traveler’s bucket list. Five identical 480sq.ft micro-cabins built of wood & native stone to fit in with the natural beauty and solitude of the setting. Studio feel with full bathroom, kitchenette & flatscreen TV. Private patios with views & propane gas grills.
The space
In the 1920’s, the U.S. National Park Service commissioned Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter to draft plans for a series of cabins, a historic oasis nestled at the bottom of Grand Canyon. She named them the Phantom cabins at Phatom Ranch. Still in operation today, these rustic cabins are built of wood and native stone blending with the natural beauty of the setting. Colter literally invented the “Rustic Look” that now all National Parks in America incorporate. The vision for Doves Rest in creating our version of Phantom Cabins was blending the same Mary Colter building tradition into our one-bedroom rustic jewels. We’ve incorporated a similar feel & look that blends with our own unique natural beauty and Native American history. Elegant and modern touches inside, along with full technology packages are not over-looked in each of these identical cabins for our discriminating guests that have come to expect and enjoy from Doves Rest Resorts.

Guests have the entire cabin centered on over 6 secluded acres of peace and quiet all to themselves. There is only one other cabin (The Hideout at Palo Duro Canyon - Rider’s Roost, which sleeps 4), on the 6.5 acre property. There are beautiful horses and two goats, Danny Boy and Fern, grazing the property. All this privacy, yet the State Park which offers hiking and mountain biking nirvana, Palo Duro Creek Ranch Jeeping tours, and Palo Duro Riding Stables are all less than two miles away! And don’t forget the musical drama TEXAS which shows in the park’s outdoor amphitheater June through mid-August.
If you like museums, the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum is approximately 10 miles away and is the largest history museum in the state of Texas.
Bar Z Winery is also near by.
It’s a 30 minute drive to Amarillo, home of the famous Route 66, the Cadillac Ranch, The Big Texan Steak Ranch, the Amarillo Center for the Performing Arts, Amarillo Botanical Gardens, and the 6th street antique mall.
We as hosts and owners of the property will frequently be on the property tending to the animals, watering trees, perhaps cleaning the other cabin on the property.
Other things to note
Due to the fact there are horses on the property, it is imperative that guests keep the entrance gate closed at all times when entering or exiting the property.
Our horses graze on our neighbor’s property. However guests are not allowed to access neighboring properties and must remain within the 6.5 fenced acres of this property. Please be sure all members in your party are aware of this.
While our horses are very friendly, DO NOT FEED THEM. They are seniors, with worn teeth, chewing difficulties, metabolic issues requiring specialized diets, and choke issues. Thanks!
All activities on the property are subject to the Equine Inherent Risk Law. By renting the property you have indicated that by your presence on the grounds you have accepted the limits of liability resulting from inherent risks of equine activities under Texas Law.
Please note, it is against the law in the state of Texas to kill bull snakes.
There are snakes of all species on the property. We do not allow guests to kill any animals on the property.
Please note ONLY the number of guests booked can be on the property. This means no additional visitors. Meet with your friends at a restaurant or other public place. We do not have the septic, parking, or insurance for anyone other than the 4 (or less), in your party.
We do not accept 3rd party bookings as this is against Airbnb policy.
No smoking or vaping is allowed inside the cabin or elsewhere on the property due to high fire danger in our area. We do allow smoking/ vaping on the screened porch where we provide a cigarette disposal receptacle.
We do not recommend this rental for children under 12. Due to there being a pond, the occasional snake, wild animals roaming through to drink at the pond, and free roaming horses, parents are required to supervise children at all times. Also, the home is decorated with antiques and may not be suitable for some families. We do not allow use of the wood burning stove to guests with children and pets.
The property is a no drone zone. Use of drones is expressly prohibited. Drones frighten wildlife and could cause our horses to run through fences.
We will not ship forgotten items to you!
Swimming in the pond is prohibited.
Lastly, this property is subject to HOA rules and regulations. Therefore, no parties, events.
Failure to follow property policies could result in additional cost to guests and/or early check out.

On the vast open ranges of yesteryear, rustling was a serious problem and punishable by hanging. At its peak, one of the largest ranches in the Texas Panhandle had over 150,000 head of cattle and a thousand horses. Obviously, thieves could drive stolen livestock miles away before a rancher learned he had animals missing. Relax in this 2bedroom, 2 bathroom hideout situated on open prairie with expansive views of Palo Duro Canyon.
The space
Rusticity is the theme in this exquisite 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom complete with large picture windows in every room, allowing for views of the open prairie and Palo Duro Canyon in one glance. Enjoy watching the Longhorns roam or the abundance of wildlife while relaxing in total luxury themed on the past of Texas Ranch houses.
