Our historic cowboy cabin originating from the Pecos Forest in 1860 was rebuilt in Placitas in 2009. The property around the cabin has many famous scenes from various different shows, including the series Breaking Bad! Besides the cabin being a one-of-a-kind property, the exterior is pretty awesome as well! Featuring a large pool and large courtyard, it gives for one of the most unique stays here in NM. Located perfectly for a quick commute to Alb or Santa Fe! POOL IS SEASONAL May 1- Aug 20
- "Upon entering the adorable cabin, we were greeted with a cozy fire in the fireplace. The decor has been perfectly placed and well thought out. You have the feeling of being transported into the 1800's, yet have all of the modern conveniences. The four poster bed was extremely comfortable and included plush pillows. The location is easily accessible and feels private. There is a cute cafe within a two minute drive. We will definitely return. "

- "The owner was nice and easy to talk to, the property itself was beautiful and worth the stay!!" - "Let me start out by saying that the property has great potential however I was disappointed with our overall stay. The check in process was a bit confusing as there were quite a few cabins at this location that were not marked. After trying 3 different doors, we finally found our cabin. Outside the cabin was a swing that would have been nice to sit on & watch the sunset had it not been broken. The cabin itself was clean but you can tell the property owner doesn’t put too much into deep cleaning. The stove, pots, pans and dishes were gritty and the bed looked half made. The cabin was extremely hot!! I am sure they are used to the kind of heat that we’ve all experienced this year but they should definitely invest in central air. There was a fan, a portable swamp cooler and a refrigerated air unit that spit out water the entire time. The cabin never got cool enough to be comfortable. We had to sleep with the windows and doors open just to have some circulation. The bed was soft, too soft for us actually. The pool looked very inviting however upon closer inspection, we noticed lots of algae growing on the inside walls. I did use the pool skimmer to clean out trash & bugs and we were able to enjoy it for about an hour just to cool down. We were not at the cabin very long during the daytime hours because of how hot it was. Leaving this review is hard for me because I tend to have wonderful experiences at these rentals but this one was quite disappointing."

Some say this exceptional example of Southwest-Deco interior/Rustic exterior Cabin was built by Col. D.K.B. Sellers as a model home for future East Mountain cabins, some say it was built on a lark as a joke! We’ll never know but we do know it was built in 1927 and sat on the hill alone for almost a decade while the depression ran its course.
Col. D.K.B. Sellers made his fortune in the Klondike Gold Rush then came to New Mexico where he was one of the territory’s early land barons. The Colonel was a nickname, he never served in the military. He was Mayor of Albuquerque when New Mexico became a state and had an interest in the large sawmill East of Old Town so he had a few logs laying around.
It’s said he loved San Francisco’s Nob Hill and he merely borrowed the name when he initially platted his new subdivision in 1914 with the slogan: “Get out of the low zone and into the ozone!”
Home to a New Mexico production company when not working as an Air BnB the Cabin has been on screen in the TV show “In Plain Sight” as well as home to post production on films such as “Hell or High Water” starring Jeff Bridges and Chris Pine as well, “Frank” starring Maggie Gylenhall and Michael Fassbender. TV shows including Netflix’ “Longmire” and “House of Cards” as well as Sony’s “Preacher” & “Night Shift” have also done work at the cabin.
When you stay at The Cabin you’re not just staying in a piece of Albuquerque history you’re staying in a piece of Hollywood present too!
