AN ECO RETREAT
Our location is beautiful – isolated on a quiet peninsula jutting out into the Gatineau River, nestled amongst huge white pine trees. Riverfront to the north and east, pristine forest and wetland adjoins the property to the south and west.
The cabin incorporates a high-efficiency air source heat pump for heating and cooling, natural lighting from skylights set in a new R40 high-insulating roof, and makes great use of local materials and wood panel reclaimed from the cabin during the roof retrofit. There are plenty of operable windows, which allow for natural cooling at nights. Floors are a mix of reclaimed maple hardwood and beautiful slate and pebble mosaic in living room and bathroom. A reclaimed cast iron clawfoot tub allows for long baths. For colder nights, there is a high-efficiency wood-burning fireplace and a supply of firewood sustainably harvested by the owner. A clothesline is provided for line-drying clothes the natural way, and there is a compost vessel in the garden.
There is also an efficient “Green Egg” barbecue for which we provide the hardwood charcoal – delicious for BBQing, fish, and smoking.
Guests will enjoy our herb garden and a new “forest garden” of berry bushes (some of which may bear fruit during your visit), fruit and nut trees. Lounge in one of our hand-made Mexican hammocks and enjoy the flower garden, wildlife, and forest garden!
OUTDOOR DETAILS
Our quiet waterfront area on the tranquil Gatineau river includes a canoe and one adult kayak and kids kayaks with paddles, and life jackets. Our beautiful dock lets you lounge in the sun on the river. Note that dock may be shared with two other families. Swimming in the river is fun, and several sandy beaches are nearby.
The property includes patio seating, a firepit for bonfires, a Green Egg BBQ, and outdoor tent covering a picnic table.
The Lazy Cabin is great for families, with child’s bunk bed (also sleeps an adult), a fun treehouse, zipline (for passengers under 80lbs), forest playground area and large trampoline.
Casual bike riders will enjoy riding on the new Chelsea riverside bike trail which crosses our country road, and the beautiful Cross Loop winding through the Meech Creek valley and over an old-fashioned covered bridge, just 3km away. Excellent single-track mountain biking can be found within 1km (ask the owners for directions to the trails), and some of Canada’s best mountain biking is nearby, including downhill courses with chairlift at Camp Fortune. Road biking enthusiasts from Ottawa come up Hwy 105 right past our road every weekend – it’s a great country ride, and the Gatineau Park road network offers gorgeous views and thrilling hill climbs.

This luxurious 3-bedroom cedar log chalet is located 35 minutes from central Ottawa, Canada's Capital City. While it has all the comfort and amenities of a city home, it also provides the warmth and charm of a chalet due to its attractive round cedar log furniture, fir beams, cathedral ceiling, spectacular bay window, old Quebec style antiques on the inside, and red shutters and flower boxes on the outside. The stunning double fireplace provides a most comfortable sense of warmth during the cooler nights.
There is a huge balcony as well as two screened porches where you can enjoy the tranquility of the lake, admire the amazing sunsets, see and listen to the beautiful sound of the loons. The beautiful, pristine, lake water is excellent for swimming off the dock or from the sandy beach where toddlers and children can safely enjoy themselves. This is an unbelievable opportunity to observe and hear nature: the call of the loons, the take-off and flight of the blue herons, the jumping of fish at dusk, etc.
In addition, there is a large floating dock with ladder and diving board where you can entertain your friends on the lake. Fishing is a great pastime for young and old on the U-shaped dock. Other interesting activities include canoeing, kayaking or rowing.. A basketball net provides great fun for children and adults alike. There is a children's tree house outside with all kinds of ropes, mini zip line, swings, and many other toys. A portable fire pit in the meadow near the bay provides a wonderful area for fun sing songs in the evening.
While the chalet has 3 bedrooms, it also has a den which can be closed off as a bedroom with a double size sofa bed. Therefore it can sleep 8 people very comfortably. There are one queen size bed, one double bed and two singles (bunk bed) in the three bedrooms.
The open concept of the living and dining area provides a wonderful space to entertain family and friends. It has a large bay window at one end of this great room and a magnificent bar area in the opposite end.
This chalet contains all of the amenities associated with a luxury home: dishwasher, compactor, 2-door fridge/freezer, stove with oven, microwave, toaster oven, toaster, etc. in the kitchen; large screen TV, Wifi, washer/dryer, etc and a Bar-B-Q.
Golf is nearby and so is an eco-tourism park which will fascinate the visitors. The proximity to the Capital city of Ottawa provides an abundance of festivals, museums, restaurants, shopping, theatre, and visits to the Central Experimental Farm and Ornamental Gardens.
The four seasons are spectacular. The area is known for its splendid autumn colours. Winter is special as the snow is clean and the air is clear. There are world-famous ski hills to tackle as well as kilometers of packed ski trails nearby. Snowshoeing and skating on the frozen lake is a true Canadian experience! In Spring, there are several "cabanes à sucre" nearby showcasing maple syrup time.

- "Our stay at Val-des-Monts was amazing! Monique was so helpful and kind throughout the whole booking process. The location is beautiful, with stunning views of the lake. There are many outdoor activites to enjoy for the whole family. The cottage is wonderful, with lots of living area. The screened in porches are especially great on a rainy day. We had such a fun and relaxing week!" - "As an expat family of 5 (+ a grandpa), we were looking for somewhere we could regroup and recharge, where we could laze our days away by the lake, or head in to the city to visit with our extended family. This characterful family cottage on Lac Rhéaume proved to be just right for us. Exactly as a cottage-by-the-lake in Canada is meant to be - built of wood, canoes waiting on the shore and a table on the dock for dinner (and some quirky charm mixed in) - we loved it. Our boys are 6’3” and 6’4” so it was a bit of squeeze for us, but the configuration of beds and rooms available provided the flexibility we needed, and with a little adaptation, it worked well for us. If we ever get the chance, we’d certainly go back."

It was clean and had everything we needed and the property contact Luis was excellent in replying to questions and helping us be organized. The only thing that could have been better was more living room furniture. Other than that it was 10/10 and would definitely recommend.
