This road access 2145 sq' cottage boasts spectacular views of Lake of the Woods (LOTW), and private waterfront access on LOTW. The cottage is located on the highly sought after exclusive area of Rheault Bay, just a few minutes west of Kenora by road or water. Keewatin Arena, Two Bears Marina, Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club and other public boat launches are only minutes away. You will enjoy a cozy, fully equipped cottage set in the woods, with private access to Lake of the Woods.

The property is "L" shaped. Looking out from the house, the corresponding lakefront lot is just in front of the lower parking lot. Located at the waterfront is a private beach perfect for little children and adults alike. There is a large open lawn available for playing games and other fun activities. Located at the beach is a fire pit for those evening campfires and cooking smores!! There is also a floating dock to park any boats/seadoo’s you may wish to bring or rent in nearby Kenora.

This is a fully furnished self-contained property. The main floor features 4 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms. Linens are provided. Master bedroom has queen size bed, private bathroom, flat screen TV wtih Netflix and patio access to private deck. Bedroom #2 & #3 have queen beds that sleep two people per room. Bedroom #4 has a single bed to sleep one person. Living room has a sectional sofa (with a pull out double bed), and flat screen TV with Netflix. Entire house has free Wi-Fi access. Laundry room includes washer/dryer. The front of the house is an open concept layout that includes the kitchen, sitting room, dining room and access to elevated deck overlooking beautiful LOTW. Kitchen has fridge, dishwasher, stove, microwave, coffee machine, toaster, and various other amenities. Sitting room includes leather sectional located close to a gas fireplace. Sliding doors right beside the dining area provide access to a wrap around deck with patio set and lounge chairs overlooking Rheault Bay. Propane BBQ available to use.

If you like to fish, Lake of the Woods has some of the best fishing in Northwestern Ontario. Kenora has two golf courses and a large recreation centre that are within minutes of the property. Kenora has a weekly farmers market where you can purchase fresh local goods. There are also concerts at the Harbourfront (i.e. HarbourFest) throughout the summer.

PLEASE NOTE: The property in its entirety consists of two parcels of land. The first parcel is set back in the woods, which is where the cottage and additional parking space is located. The second parcel, which is directly across from the extra parking space, is a vacant waterfront/lakefront lot (that is all lawn) with private lake access, a fire pit, a beach, and dock. The property rental is inclusive of both parcels of land.

A booking deposit equal to 50% of the total rental charge is due at time of booking. The balance of the rental charge and Security Deposit ($500) is due 55 days prior to arrival date.

Upon submission of rental enquiry, a booking form will provided for completion prior to confirming reservation. Upon submission of completed booking form and payment of booking deposit a Rental Agreement will be provided.

The walk up the hill was steeper than expected which might be a challenge for some guests. Due to the high water level, we didn't have use of the dock. Our hosts were very helpful. Our off-grid, solar powered cabin can accommodate 6 people comfortably, but guests need to conserve power consumption. The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with shower and composting toilet, as well as an outhouse. There is a filtration system that provides clean drinking water.
Cottage sleeps 6 adults (queen beds in each of the 3 bedrooms) . 1 bedroom is conveniently located on the main floor and 2 on the second floor. Fish right off the private dock or enjoy the various fishing hotspots in the area. You can also take in the various festivals, museums, golf courses, and many other attractions Kenora has to offer.

Beds are supplied with duvets and pillows. Guests supply their own bed sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases, kitchen dish cloths/towels, and bath towels.

- "All around great place to stay. Everything worked out flawlessly" - "The check in process was very easy, and the cottage looks exactly like the photos, if not better! The place is quite big, and very easily accommodated our group of 10 adults. It also has pretty much everything you would ever need, and the camp store that is a few minutes away has everything you may have forgotten. The sauna and screen porch were definitely a favourite, along with the amazing lakeside views. It is also very private, which is a real bonus. The only thing to say that might be a bit negative is that the beds were not the most comfortable, and the dock/stairs down are not in the best shape, though not unsafe in any way. Neither of these things would dissuade us from visiting again in the least, though. I can’t speak to how accessible the property manager is, as we had absolutely no issues, but it was really nice to know there’s someone close by if anything were to happen. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for any larger group or family for a fun summer getaway. Would definitely come back if the opportunity arose!!"

The boathouse also has a bedroom downstairs, at water level, with a queen bedroom and two sets of bunks. A few steps away on the island there is a guest cottage with a queen bed and two single beds up a steep ladder in the loft area. There is only one bathroom on the island, located in the main cabin. There is an outhouse located just a short walk from the sleeping areas. The island is a private island and you will be the only ones on there. You will need to bring a boat or rent one in either Kenora or Keewatin.

- "We spent 7 great days at the Boathouse in June of 2015. Not our first visit to this beautiful lake but our first time at the Boathouse. We were very happy with the accommodations. The entire trip, payment, facilities, etc. was very nice. We arrived to find everything in excellent condition. The living area is updated, clean, comfortable and everything worked just fine the entire week. Kitchen was well stocked with all utensils, dishes and appliances. Beds and linens were clean, comfortable and well maintained. The deck was huge and well stocked with lounges, chairs, tables, etc. The boathouse was very roomy and super nice to pull into at the end of the day. I am particularly grateful that a place like this is available for rent and I appreciate the owners keeping it in such great shape for many to enjoy. We will stay here again! I highly recommend for families and groups large and small. "

Amazing Location just a 10 minute boat ride from Kenora. This IS an island so you do need to own a boat or rent one from one of the marinas. Water taxi service is also an option if you don't own your own boat. It is a basic cottage. Built in 1980. Large Screened in Porch. 6 bedrooms. Kitchen appliances. Barbeque. - "Our third time returning to Janet’s property of course did not disappoint! We experienced a very wide range of weather from 8 degrees to 40 degrees! Our dogs loved exploring the island and swimming off the dock. We visited the farmers market on Wednesday morning, boated in for dinner at the Boathouse restaurant, caught tons of fish, and most importantly relaxed! The wildlife was impeccable, we saw bear, deer, loons, eagles, pelicans and more!! We will be back to this most perfect camp in Kenora :)"

Beautiful 2.2 acre Westshore Island is a place to escape the modern world, set 20 miles by boat amidst a vast maze of wilderness islands between Kenora and Sioux Narrows, Ontario. There’s a buoyed track leading from either town but once you’re out there, you’re totally on your own, with a cozy off-the-grid cabin and many of the comforts of home, surrounded by prime fishing waters, wildlife and a magnificent landscape filled with countless things to do: canoeing, camping, photography, painting, swimming, water sports and more.
Aside from a few scattered neighbors and periodic passing boats, it offers profound solitude, a place for a respite where you can become one with the flow of nature around you.

You need some navigation and boating skills to reach Westshore Island, but once you get there, we have you covered. Our rustic, but comfortable cabin boasts hot water, shower, composting toilet, generator-backed solar power, gas fridge, stove and oven, cell service and satellite Internet/WiFi. The more primitive boathouse has no AC power or running water, but has beds for four people (just above the waves) and a bathroom with a composting toilet. There is enough dock space for several boats and a generator cords to recharge trolling batteries.
Overall, the sleeping accommodations include three bedrooms with seven beds: a king in the cabin master bedroom, a futon in the living room, a queen and two twins in the boathouse bedroom and two twins in the boathouse bunk room. There are also beautiful tent sites scattered across the island and the facilities are big enough to feed and serve up to ten people, including a well-provisioned kitchen, spacious living room with a hearty wood stove, generator-powered AC power outlets, outdoor fire pit & big screened porch.

We try to have the cabin turnkey ready but there isn’t an onsite person to warm things up and you might have to re-ignite pilot lights or troubleshoot something else. We make it easy with a detailed user’s guide that walks you through all of the systems in use on the island and you can always reach out to us with questions. We also have a handyman standing by in Kenora if you need him.

We hope you’ll come and stay awhile. It takes time to unwind and you’ll have more fun if you stay at least two weeks, a month or even the whole summer. We prefer longer visits, too, and offer big discounts and preferential early booking for more extended stays.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY - Westshore Island is not for Everyone.

A visit to our island is a rare opportunity to stay in a genuine wilderness environment with many of the comforts of home. Time here can be relaxing, peaceful and adventurous, with little evidence of the modern world except for occasional passing boats. However, it's very remote and important to be well-prepared, self-reliant and know exactly what you are getting into before you embark. We provide guests with a detailed users guide but a few things to be aware of before you book:

The island is very remote and accessible only by water! You must have or rent your own boat and be comfortable navigating a buoyed track through a maze of islands. Even if you are familiar with the area, detailed marine charts are essential and GPS is recommended.

We highly recommend that visitors have previous experience with camping and backcountry safety. Guests need to be well-prepared, self-reliant and recognize that they will be on their own with no on-site caretaker standing by to help if things break or something else goes wrong. Please don’t come if you are afraid of seeing a bear.

Although it has seldom happened, there is a possibility that severe weather, waves and wind could temporarily make it dangerous to return to town. Come prepared for the possibility that you might not be able to get home on schedule.

Tap water is filtered after being pumped up from the lake but it is not treated and must be boiled before drinking. We provide several 5-gallon jugs of commercially bottled water to each group.

The camp is swept and stocked after each group, but it is a family-built wilderness cabin that’s 50 years old. There is some ground-in dirt from years of use.

Camp internet is a satellite connection that can be very slow at times and stop working entirely during bad weather. It is intended for basic communications, reading the news and other simple online chores like booking travel plans but it doesn’t have the bandwidth for video streaming, gaming or large file transfers. There is also workable cell service on the island and we highly recommend you use your mobile phone as a hot spot if possible. It's both faster and more reliable.

There is AC power and running water in the cabin but NOT in the boathouse bedroom, bunk room or bath. We do provide a collection of solar and battery lanterns for use there, as well as pitchers and basins for simple washing up.

- "This place and Sherri were great. Water system was too rough to swim in at the time I went based on the record high water levels, but that’s a once in a lifetime thing. Had a great time sitting on the decks and dock, neighbour’s were all great, and if you are on a boat we found some great fishing spots. This stunning cabin is on over an acre of property on Gun Club Island approximately a 5-minute boat ride South from downtown Kenora. The property is in an East-facing bay for spectacular sun-rises. The shoreline has a boathouse, including a covered docking slip, large deck area, and sand beach. It is protected from the typical Western winds and gets full sun exposure until mid to late afternoon.

The main cabin features 4 bedrooms and one bathroom and an additional outdoor shower. There are 2 bedrooms on the main floor and 2 bedrooms upstairs and is currently set up to sleep 10 people. Additionally, the "tower room" can be used as desired and is accessed through an upstairs bedroom. The large screened-in porch features a large seating area, a dining area, and contains the washer and dryer. The cabin is on a septic system and full electricity. It has electric baseboard heaters and a large wood stove in the living room if needed for heat. The cabin is equipped with wi-fi internet.

Additional space can be found above the boathouse and the separate guest cabin. The boathouse upper level contains living space that can be used for sitting and has beds to sleep 5, a screened in porch, and outdoor sitting area. The guest cabin feels removed from the main cabin and has a queen-sized bed to sleep 2, a sitting room, a screened-in porch, and deck.

The outdoor space can suit all needs. Near the boathouse there is an elevated rock perfect for small evening fires. There is a larger bonfire pit in the large field beside the cabin. The low-profile lot leaves a field excellent for outdoor games and activities. There is also a trampoline.

The kitchen is fully stocked with cutlery, utensils, appliances, cookware and has a dishwasher. There is a BBQ and outdoor dining area on the deck.

This property is water access only. Guests will require their own boat. This lends itself well to hours on the lake doing watersports, fishing, or exploring. Watersports provided include pedal boat, kids kayaks, paddleboards.
