We have six camp and outdoori chairs, with outdoor and patio furniture including a hammock. This is your escape from the cities hustle and bustle but close enough to duluth,mn and superior, wi. OR a great base for north snd south shore activities or duluth and outdoor for your stay.

Jay Cooke Cottage invites all outdoor enthusiasts to partake in miles of mountain biking, biking, rollerblading, birding, hiking, nature trails, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, disc golf, horse trails, fishing, snowboarding, downhill skiing, rock hounding, kayaking, paddle boarding, great photography and much more.

Our kitchen is supplied with any utensil you would need to cook a meal for your whole family or group.

We have a coffee pot that brews by the pot or uses k-pods. If you wish to cook outside we have a charcoal grill and freestanding grill for over the fire pit.

The cottage was freshly redone in 2024 including local nature art, Himalayan salt lamps, secondary lighting, essential oil diffusers and a zen nature vibe.

Transit - While having a car is recommended for convenience, no worries if you don't have one. Duluth has got you covered with plenty of public transportation options to explore the area. You can hop on the Duluth Transit, or take advantage of ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft. And if you prefer traditional taxis, there are many other taxi services available too. So, whether you're cruising in your own car or using one of these convenient options, getting around won't be a problem at all. Enjoy your adventures in Duluth!

VACATION RENTAL HOUSE RULES

1. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS a) All Guests (and any Visitors) must comply with all House Rules and any other instructions from the Property Manager during their stay; and b) Guests must notify the Property Manager of any disputes or complaints from neighbors as soon as reasonably practicable.

2. NOISE AND THE NEIGHBORHOOD a) This Vacation Rental is suitable for children of all ages! Guests are fully responsible for the safety and security of their children at all times, as well as any disturbance caused to other residents in the Neighborhood; b) Guests and Visitors must keep noise to a minimum as not to disturb the occupants of neighboring properties – especially during nighttime hours (10pm – 8am), and upon arrival and departure; c) Excessive noise is prohibited at all times and may result in termination of the vacation rental agreement, eviction, loss of rental paid and extra charges which may be deducted from the Security Deposit;

Terms include a No Tolerance Policy regarding excessive noise, parties, or disturbing neighbors. Please make sure you are comfortable with our Terms as they are strictly enforced.

3. VISITORS a) Guests are allowed a maximum of 6 visitors at any time during their stay. b) Guests are responsible for ensuring maximum visitor numbers are not exceeded; and that visitors are complicit with these House Rules.

4. FUNCTIONS a) Parties and large gatherings of any kind are strictly prohibited at the Vacation Rental; and b) Any small gathering must comply with other rules set regarding Noise, the Neighborhood and Visitor numbers.

5. PARKING a) Guests and any visitors are to comply with parking regulations and other requirements set out below and show consideration to neighbors and other vehicles; please use the designated parking with signs for the Vacation Rental.

6. SECURITY a) Any time Guests leave the Vacation Rental, it is their responsibility to ensure all windows and doors are closed/locked to maintain security and prevent rain and water damage. b) Guests must switch off the lights, air conditioning, fans, electronics such as televisions when not in use to promote energy saving.

7. SMOKING a) Smoking is not permitted inside the Vacation Rental; and b) Cigarette butts must be disposed of properly (in large trash cans located outside property or off property all together) and not thrown on property grounds. Failure to do so will result in a deduction from the security deposit.

8. PETS a) IF dogs are permitted at the Vacation Rental; b) Specific rules regarding Pets at the Vacation Rental are as follows: Please keep pets off all furniture and be sure to have on a leash at all times when outside of the home. Also be sure to clean up after your pet and dispose of waste in the trash bins located outside of property. Please respect neighbors by limiting the barking of pets on the property; c) A maximum of 2 dogs are allowed at the property; for short term reservations the pet fee is $75/dog, for extended stays the fee is $150/pet. All mention of pets denotes dogs only, no other pets are permitted.

9. DAMAGES AND BREAKAGES a) All Damages and Breakages must be reported to the Property Manager as soon as reasonably practicable. Failure to report them will likely result in a penalty deduction from the security deposit. And; b) To avoid Damages and Breakages, no furniture is to be moved from one room to another without prior agreement.

10. CHECK OUT ARRANGEMENTS a) Please be sure to lock all doors and leave both sets of keys back in the lockbox. Check out is at 10am - if you need a later checkout please contact me as soon as possible to request arrangements.

11. EMERGENCY CONTACT DETAILS: a) In the event of an emergency relating to the Vacation Rental, your emergency contact is: Heirloom Vacation Rentals b) In the event of all other emergencies please call 911.

12. COMPLIANCE a) Breach of any of these House Rules is a breach of the Terms and Conditions of occupancy as per the Rental Agreement. b) The Owner and Manager reserve the right to terminate permission to occupy and to evict from the Vacation Rental, any Guests or Visitors who refuse to follow these House Rules or who cause a nuisance to neighbors or other residents of the community.

Welcome to the historic Pumphouse on Lake Superior with 200' of lakeshore! The Pumphouse is one of Duluth's iconic and historical properties. This home was originally designed by John Wangenstein in 1860 as the water pump house for the City of Duluth but was abandoned when the new pump house was built in 1897. Miss Elisabeth Congdon purchased it and hired renowned architect Harold Starin to convert the pump house into an absolutely stunning French-style home. Enormous 8' windows face the courtyard and London Road, while a terrace along the entire length of the home overhangs Lake Superior. French doors frame the large living room and its commanding view of Lake Superior and the Aerial Lift Bridge. This stunning 3,100 square foot French home sits on 200' of lakefront on London Road. The Pumphouse faces southeast for beautiful sunrises and overhangs Lake Superior. The home features large multi-paned French windows, French doors, 10-foot ceilings, a Pullman-style kitchen, period chandeliers, four gas fireplaces, and other unique elements. The master bedroom is located on the upper floor and is outfitted with comfortable and luxury class king size Stearns and Foster mattress for a restful night's sleep on a modern platform bed. The master bedroom has a full bathroom and TV. For additional sleeping arrangements, there is a pull-out couch located in the lower level.

KITCHEN
The kitchen is fully equipped with stunning views of Lake Superior from the main floor kitchen and living room. A walkout deck overlooks Lake Superior and offers a relaxing and refreshing spot for morning coffee on the lounge furniture. The Carriage House is located at the start of the popular North Shore of Lake Superior while located close to the canal, restaurants, entertainment, and downtown Duluth. It is located only two (2) blocks from Brighton Beach Park (Kitchi Gammi) and Lester River Park for great hiking or mountain biking. A grocery store is within two (2) blocks. The house known as the 'Captain's Quarters' sits at the forest's edge, set back from the road and tucked into a very private estate. A four year build, (completed in 2008), it is filled with modern luxuries such as a gourmet kitchen, beautiful bluestone gas fireplace, radiant heated floors, a spa bath, air conditioning and wifi internet. Though the amenities are modern, the 'feel' of the home is steeped in an old world charm and beauty. Built with a love for the art, nothing was overlooked. From the heavy Douglas fir timbers, to the ornate cast iron radiators, much was borrowed from days gone by and re purposed here. Details in brass, marble, red wood, granite, copper, maple, limestone, and stained glass are to be found throughout.
This home was designed with friends and family in mind, and so is very social and entertains beautifully. It is truly a pleasure to experience!
The house is surrounded by gorgeous natural landscapes. White pines tower above mossy cliffs and rocky outcroppings. Wild life big and small weave through the trees. Sweeping cedars huddle and lean into each other. Colorful maples surround it all, both glowing over, and shading the acreage. There's even a pretty forest pond for the frogs and ducks, and ice skating come winter, that sits below a cozy 'lighthouse' on the bluff. And now we have a large pond nestled between the cliffs and the house with a beautiful pavilion to sit and enjoy the ducks and dragonfly's go by. Not to mention all the birds coming and going. (five bird feeders)
The property adjoins hundreds of acres of diverse designated 'green spaces' that are woven with miles of walking and cross country ski trails. And if you like e-bikes, we have those available too. And Hartley Recreational area but a short peddle away.
This house is located in the perfect part of Duluth. While being only minutes away from Lake Superior and Downtown one way, and the malls and airport the other, there is still an absolutely enchanting feel to it all.

This house has a beautiful great room and view of the lake. There’s 113’ of shoreline to dip your toes . You can see Lake Superior from three sides of the building. Two 12’ x 12’ bedrooms in the back have lake and woods views. The 38’ x 25’ great room has views on all three sides. A large u-shaped couch allows everyone to watch the lake in comfort. The location is convenient with a good supermarket 3 miles away in Two Harbors and Betty's pies within walking distance. ATV and Snowmobile trails are within a mile. The Superior Hiking Trail is close, too. Essy access to the water makes kayaking and cannoeing convenient. It's easy to find adventures all around this location.

There is lots of wildlife to be seen on this property. Eagles are regularly sitting in the top of the pines overlooking the lake. Deer frequently go through the property and a grouse or two have been known to hang around. You won’t have a lack of things to look at.

This beautifully renovated cottage is a bright and restful retreat and the perfect basecamp for exploring the magic of the North Shore. SUMMER IS BUSY IN CANAL PARK! There will be traffic on most weekends, especially with special events going on so just be aware when making your vacation plans. During the busy summer boat traffic months, you will be what locals call "Bridged". This can take anywhere from 5-25 mins. Enjoy watching the big boats passing by!

**Please Note** Northern winters can bring a lot of snow in unpredictable patterns, we have a snow removal service that will be triggered with a 1" minimum snowfall and the property has a quality shovel if necessary before we are able to reach you. Please allow at least 12 hours after a snowfall for our team to get out to plow/shovel as necessary.

VACATION RENTAL HOUSE RULES

1. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS a) All Guests (and any Visitors) must comply with all House Rules and any other instructions from the Property Manager during their stay; and b) Guests must notify the Property Manager of any disputes or complaints from neighbors as soon as reasonably practicable.

2. NOISE AND THE NEIGHBORHOOD a) This Vacation Rental is suitable for children of all ages! Guests are fully responsible for the safety and security of their children at all times, as well as any disturbance caused to other residents in the Neighborhood; b) Guests and Visitors must keep noise to a minimum as not to disturb the occupants of neighboring properties – especially during nighttime hours (10pm – 8am), and upon arrival and departure; c) Excessive noise is prohibited at all times and may result in termination of the vacation rental agreement, eviction, loss of rental paid and extra charges which may be deducted from the Security Deposit;

3. VISITORS a) Guests are allowed a maximum of 4 visitors at any time during their stay. b) Guests are responsible for ensuring maximum visitor numbers are not exceeded; and that visitors are complicit with these House Rules.

4. FUNCTIONS a) Parties and large gatherings of any kind are strictly prohibited at the Vacation Rental; and b) Any small gathering must comply with other rules set regarding Noise, the Neighborhood and Visitor numbers.

5. PARKING a) Guests and any visitors are to comply with parking regulations and other requirements set out by the property manger and show consideration to neighbors and other vehicles; please use the designated parking.

6. SECURITY a) Any time Guests leave the Vacation Rental, it is their responsibility to ensure all windows and doors are closed/locked to maintain security and prevent rain and water damage. b) Guests must switch off the lights, air conditioning, fans, electronics such as televisions when not in use to promote energy saving.

7. SMOKING a) Smoking is not permitted inside the Vacation Rental; and b) Cigarette butts must be disposed of properly (in large trash cans located outside property or off property all together) and not thrown on property grounds. Failure to do so will result in a deduction from the security deposit.

8. PETS a) IF Pets are permitted at the Vacation Rental; b) Specific rules regarding Pets at the Vacation Rental are as follows: Please keep pets off all furniture and be sure to have on a leash at all times when outside of the home. Also be sure to clean up after your pet and dispose of waste in the trash bins located outside of property. Please respect neighbors by limiting the barking of pets on the property. c) A maximum of 2 dogs are allowed at the property; for short term reservations the pet fee is $75/dog, for extended stays the fee is $150/pet. All mention of pets denotes DOGS ONLY, no other pets are permitted.

9. DAMAGES AND BREAKAGES a) All Damages and Breakages must be reported to the Property Manager as soon as reasonably practicable. Failure to report them will likely result in a penalty deduction from the security deposit. And; b) To avoid Damages and Breakages, no furniture is to be moved from one room to another without prior agreement.

10. CHECK OUT ARRANGEMENTS a) Please be sure to lock all doors and leave both sets of keys back in the lockbox. Check out is at 10am - if you need a later checkout please contact me as soon as possible to make arrangements.

12. COMPLIANCE a) Breach of any of these House Rules is a breach of the Terms and Conditions of occupancy as per the Rental Agreement. b) The Owner and Manager reserve the right to terminate permission to occupy and to evict from the Vacation Rental, any Guests or Visitors who refuse to follow these House Rules or who cause a nuisance to neighbors or other residents of the community.

- "We were a family of 7 along with our dogs. It worked out very well. We enjoyed the backyard fire pit as well. Lovely quick walk to the lake." - "We really enjoyed our stay, good time with the family. But, you may want to communicate with your cleaning staff. We had dirty towels on the back of one of the bedroom doors, a big ball of hair on top of the cooler, side door was unlocked when we arrived, under toilet seat was covered in feces, and my dog found a pill under the downstairs bed. Also, toilet paper rolls were very low when we arrived, and there were no extra rolls to replace when gone so we had to go buy toilet paper."

Knife River is between Duluth and Two Harbors. The cottage is within walking distance to hiking trails, parks, Knife River Beach (3 blocks), Knife River Marina & The Great Lakes Candy Store. Minutes drive to Canal Park, Two Harbors, Gooseberry and Split Rock. The marina has public access for all your boating/fishing needs or fish the river -located across the street.

The space
Knife River was a railroad town when the cottage was built in 1905 (or so). We think the cottage was used to house railroad workers. If you look close at the floor between the dining area and living room you will see where we have added flooring. At one time there was a wall dividing the rooms and it ran through the bath to the back of the house (no indoor plumbing back then). When indoor plumbing was installed in the house the wall was moved towards the smaller bedroom to make room for a bathroom. Prior to this the two sleeping rooms were the same size with closets in the now bath area. Old school duplex. Later the kitchen part of the house was brought up from the flats (down by the river), and the basement was erected. Many families have lived in the house since the railroad left town. ( There is still an old metal bed in the unfinished attic ( insulation was blown in less than 20 years ago) . I can’t imagine sleeping up there in the cold of winter.

We bought River Bend Cottage in the fall of 2017. We have rehabbed the cottage keeping as much of the vintage personality as we could. It is a cozy place with 2 sleeping rooms (no closets or solid doors) , and a couch in the living room. Again- the sleeping rooms do not have doors- but do have a black out curtain for privacy. Large kitchen plus a large dining table. The yard has plenty of room outside for games, bon fires, or just enjoying Knife River.

Wildwood Cottage is a newly built, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, pet free retreat, nestled into the woods. There are 80-plus acres of forested state land to the south of the property and a walking trail to the Sucker River leading to a fabulous swimming hole. Located 19 mi. from Canal Park/Downtown Duluth, 14 mi. to Two Harbors, 4.5 mi. to Stoney Point and 6.6 mi to Knife River Marina Beach, makes this a fabulous location 1 mi. north of Lake Superior and the North Shore Scenic Drive.

The space
The cottage is on a single level with entry on grade. A hand stenciled floor, vaulted pine covered ceiling and original artwork by area artists create a warm and welcoming vibe. The Great Room provides up to 6 people space for cooking, eating, and watching a movie.

The Cottage has a keyless entry. The code will be provided close to arrival day.

For cross country skiers, Korkki Nordic Ski Trails are just a few miles away! Come to snowshoe through the woods, or bring cross country ski's and head to Korkki!

Tucked away on 1.5 acres in the middle of Duluth, this one-bedroom cottage has breath-taking panoramic views of Lake Superior, the Aerial Lift bridge and the St. Louis River. With the large property and surrounding trees, the home feels secluded but has wonderful access to hiking and biking trails, parks, beaches and all that downtown Duluth and Canal Park have to offer.

The space
The home is a single-level home with an open floor plan and everything you need for a fun and relaxing stay for up to four people. The bedroom has a queen-sized bed and the living room has a new, very comfortable queen-size sleeper sofa. The kitchen is fully equipped with major appliances including a dishwasher, pots and pans, dishes and utensils, and a drip coffee maker. The home offers free WIFI as well as an HD smart TV with access to streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. There is a Fubo account set up for live TV programming. Board games and a selection of books are also available.

Guest access
Guests are free to make use of the entire home and outdoor space, including the outdoor patio, firepit and gas grill. Guests are also welcome to use the washer and dryer with the provided laundry detergent. A small "A-frame" cabin is located on the north end of the property and is off-limits to guests.

Privacy abounds with over 7.5-acres featuring a babbling creek, winding path through towering trees, and over 200' of shoreline. Built in 1955, the cottage has been meticulously renovated, inside and out, to highlight original features and the exceptional surroundings. Take your pups swimming in the lake, enjoy a backyard bonfire, venture out for seasonal activities, or stay in and admire the views!

The property was the earliest homesteaded in the area back in the late 1880's by three brothers, remained in the same family up until 2010, and we're now lucky enough to become a part of its story, as well. We want to celebrate the history of this truly magical place, rather than erase it. You'll find original features (the yellow bathtub, pocket doors, kitchen casework, built-in hutch, millwork, & more), as well as furnishings and finishes throughout that are the epitome of a cottage: inviting & warm. There are places to kick-back with a book, play games, stream a show, or simply marvel at the endless beauty of Lake Superior.

We had a visitor stop-in once who was a friend of the original family and spent his summers here as a kid. He was able to share a lot more about what 'once was' with us, including how the property had been an operational farm, featured a turn-around driveway (which we hope to bring back), stories of using the outhouse in the late-night hours (which is still standing!), and more, all of which was delightful. We love the history and details, and can imagine the cattle that once grazed in what's now woods! While the barns are no longer, the spirit of the property's former life remains.

Guest access
Guests can access the entire cottage with the exception of the basement. This is to remain private (door is intentionally left open for air circulation).

There is a small shed and a large garage, both of which are also private. Access to either/both is not included in the rental of the cottage.

Other things to note
Lodging Tax - Airbnb automatically collects Minnesota Sales Tax and Local Sales Tax. Lake County (MN) Lodging Tax (4%) is also required, which Airbnb has yet to start collecting automatically. We'll request this payment via the "Resolution Center," which you'll receive prior to your stay.

Per Lake County Planning & Zoning regulations (Sec. 6.16), the following must be provided to us in advance of stay for every guest occupying the cottage:
- name
- phone number
- home address
The vehicle license plate number of all overnight guests using the property, along with issuing state, is also required.

Only the guests included on the reservation are allowed on the property. If more guests arrive at check-in than expected, all guests will be required to immediately vacate the property without a refund. We do have four (4) cameras on the exterior of the property [front door, driveway, side yard, & lakeside].

If there are any changes to the interior or exterior that'll make the arrival of the guests behind you any different than your own, you will be charged accordingly (e.g., stained/damaged furnishings or flooring, missing items, etc.).

Do not peel bark from the birch trees on the property or harm any plants, trees, etc. on the property. Please let nature remain and enjoy it as-is.

FOR DOGS - two (2) dog maximum. Dog(s) to be kenneled when left alone at the cottage. Dog poop MUST be picked-up prior to departure.

We have an independent contract that must be signed and returned to us BEFORE you can access the cottage. This is emailed roughly 1-2 weeks ahead of your stay. You're welcome to request a copy in advance.

The indoor fireplace is NOT available for use. No exceptions and significant fine if violated (see details in 'Welcome Guide' emailed with the contract).

The cottage has Dish Network satellite TV. There may be outages due to weather and/or obstructions. Please park at least 10' behind the dish.
