The cottage on lost lake is cozy, serene, clean, and has all of the amenities of home, but away from the mad rush. Sitting on the deck and enjoying the 100 ft. Pines and taking in the lake view is the perfect escape from it all. The cottage is on a private road. It is accessible all year round. When you enter the cottage you are welcome by a large kitchen/ dining area, accompanied by a large living room area, all with tongue and groove vaulted ceiling. The cottage was lovingly built by a couple who live on the same lake. There is an immediate sense of serenity, and space. There are 2 bedrooms in the back. One is a Queen iron wrought bed with lovely oak furniture, many drawers, and large closets. The other has very new and solid full bunk beds with a twin trundle. In the living room, the couch is also a queen-size pull-out bed. There is one bath. It is really 2 rooms. The double sinks, and vanity, and washer and dryer are in a room adjoining the bathtub, shower, and commode. This property also includes a paddle boat, row boat, 2 canoes & 1 kayak.

For larger families looking for additional space, we also manage a property next door that could sleep another 4 people.

The deck has a small iron table and chairs to accommodate outdoor dining.

It is a walkout basement, with an adjoining dog kennel so that you can let the dog out in the middle of the night without having to suit up for a walk.

The lot will accommodate parking for a trailer, and a few cars. The entire property is 3 acres. Right off of the road are a number of trails that will lead you through the Hiawatha national forest. You can enjoy them by foot, snow mobile, snowshoe, cross country skiing, etc. Truly a place for all seasons. We would ask, out of courtesy for the neighbors. That snowmobilers would respect the 15 mile an hr. speed limit on the private road, and refrain from making noise with the snowmobiles after 10PM.

The cottage is set up with a phone and internet. There is a tv with a DVD player. There is a collection of DVDs to choose from.

- "The lake house was nice. We enjoyed the view from the deck and using the paddleboat. Lots of sightseeing in the area. Loved watching the hummingbirds. We would recommend this cabin for rental for an enjoyable vacation." - "This was the perfect rental for my family and our needs. The boats and lake front access were the best part and we had lots of fun. There was plenty of room for sleeping for us (4 adults and 2 kids). The upstairs and bedrooms were clean and there was plenty of clean bedding and towels. The only issue I had with cleanliness was the basement - there looked to be some trash but it wasn't a big deal to us because we only used it to access the outdoor kennel (which was also great so we could let our dog off leash for awhile). In response to the other reviews complaining about the musty smell - yes the basement did smell a little musty but that is normal for Michigan basements especially right by the water and I'm sure the owner does everything they can to keep it at bay as there was a dehumidifier and no leaks or standing water I could see. If you do book this rental make sure you get directions to the property and follow them don't listen to a map app! There are a lot of dirt roads going around the lakes and they don't all have through access. The place was nice and private and had everything you could need - boats, water, cooking appliances and utensils, firepit and grill. It is also near Munising and other places to explore including hiking/ATV trails. I also appreciated the owner reaching out to me to give directions and recommendations on things to do in the area. My only regret is not writing or reading in the guest book - we never had time because we were too busy relaxing and having fun. I would recommend this place for a good time both on the property and at any of the nearby attractions."

The Falling Rock cafe is just a block away for fresh coffee, hand dipped ice cream, friendship, old books and local entertainment. The cottage will be immaculately clean upon your arrival. The cottage has a 'Pottery Barn-like style, with its' tasteful furnishings and interior decorations, which makes it irresistably inviting.

We have limited parking here. We can park two vehicles max, no trailers or snowmobiles.

Everything was immaculate, and the linens/dishes were brand new. We used the kitchen well, cooking dinner a few nights. While the location was a 3 minute walk to town, the outdoor space still seemed private being set back from the road. The view out the kitchen window of the lake was a bonus. I honestly cannot say enough about this property. I even told my mom I could live here full-time."

This is a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath vacation cottage with a beautiful view of Munising Bay and located right next door to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. It boasts a nice fire pit patio in the front yard to enjoy the beautiful sunsets. It sleeps 4 comfortably but can accommodate up to 6 (+$10 per night for 5th and 6th guest). Pictured Rocks Cottage provides you with Wi-Fi and internet streaming TV. All linens are provided for you along with kitchen essentials for when you catch that big king salmon across the street at the fishing pier. Come and enjoy the grandeur of the Pictured Rocks while staying at the Pictured Rocks Cottage. In the winter, hop on your snowmobile in the driveway and you can be on public trails in less than a mile. For hikers, the North Country Trail passes by the front door! And you are less than a mile from downtown Munising with plenty of food options and local breweries.

Please note that in the winter we do have someone that plows the driveway, but it will be up to the guests to keep the short path in front of the door clear. There are snow shovels available by the door. Sorry, no pets...

Bedroom is at the back of the Caboose which has a Full size bed, new I might add. There is a full bath which has a walk in shower. .The Kitchen is fully equipped. but If you would like to grill out while enjoying the beautiful grounds, it's there for you also. You are 90 feet from Lake Independence which will thrill your desire to fish or just play in her nice warm inland water. THERE WILL BE A CANOE AND KAYAK AT YOUR DISPOSAL, MY COMPLIMENTS. Enjoy your stay near Munising in this old-school cabin retreat. Nothing fancy here. Just soak in the lake and some comfortable creature comforts (WiFi, washer/dryer, 2 bathrooms) close to Pictured Rocks. Town Lake is located just 12.8 miles south of Munising.

Please note: The simple ranch style cottage has 2 bedrooms.The furniture, windows and flooring are all older and the cabin is solely for those with simple tastes. This is not a place if you are particular in any way, shape or form. This cabin is priced lower than others in the area due to the need for updates. Road can be rough going down to cabin, so if your car rides low, please use caution.

The simple ranch style cottage has 2 bedrooms. One bedroom has a King bed and a room with 2 double beds. Turtle Cove has a large living/dining room to enjoy the relaxing view of the lake or watch TV. Cabin is equipped with basic WiFi. There is also a cell phone booster for those of you that have Verizon. The living area includes a futon and a sleeper sofa as well. The kitchen has an oven, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, blender, toaster, silverware and dishes for your use. Two bathrooms each have their own shower, one of which is between the bedrooms. A washer and dryer is located within one of the bathrooms. A propane grill and fire pit are lakeside. Town Lake is known to be a good swimming/fishing/and quiet boating lake. Pete's Lake nearby is known as the all-sports lake. The cottage is only a couple hundred yards from Forest Glen convenience store where gas, boats, jet skis, pontoons, bait and ice cream can be enjoyed.

Miners Falls: it is a waterfall located on Miners River in the western portion of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Alger County, Michigan. The falls drops about 40 feet over a sandstone outcrop with a 10-foot crest.
Mini Golf: Miners Falls Mini Golf & located in Wetmore the Eagle Falls Adventure Golf
Garden Bay Winery: About 40 mins away in Cooks, MI (20 miles west of Manistique) on US Hwy 2. also have a wine tasting room where you can sample their wine.

Airport: The closest airport is at Sawyer International Airprort in Marquette (MQT), 48 miles from the cottage
65 miles to Escanaba (ESC) normally has the best rates. Flying to the Upper Peninsula is rarely at a discount.

Boat Launch: Town Lake is a private lake which is unofficially a no-wake lake. It is a quiet lake. You can rent a boat the Forest Glen General Store across the lake and launch from there. There is no official launch for Town Lake at Turtle Cove. There is not a public launch on the lake. A small boat may be possible to launch, yet it is not recommended.

Fishing: A variety of pan fish, including redbreast sunfish, redear sunfish and largemouth bass. You are required to purchase a fishing license. You can get it online at the DNR.

Pet: 1 pet is allowed (no weight limit). Freshwater Vacation Rentals currently charges $75/per pet for your entire stay.

Swimming: Not a traditional swimming beach. The entire lake is hard sandy bottom. You can swim here-but the lake does get deep pretty quickly, so small kids should be monitored closely. The first 10 feet from shore goes from 0 ft to 2 ft. the next 10 ft from shore goes from 2 ft. to 5-6 ft. then drops to 12 ft. pretty quickly. There is a more traditional shallow water beach less than 1 mile away at Pete's Lake Day Use Area.

- "The listing should be more honest about the location of the grocery store. While technically there is a convenience store nearby, you can hardly classify it as groceries. Even the person working at Forest Glenn considered being listed as a grocery store quite a stretch. Stayers would appreciate knowing that you need to get groceries in Munising before going to the property. That information would have saved a lot of miles and aggravation. Other than that the place was great. Appreciated good quality paper products and that the tv got more television stations than subscription streaming services."

We are surrounded by all kinds of outdoor recreational opportunities that the Upper Peninsula has to offer. Snowmobilers/ATV's have direct access to the best trails in the Midwest. The Buckhorn Resort is approximately eight miles away and they offer family dining and a lounge that is open daily. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore offers some of the most amazing hiking trails in the country and they are located just minutes away. You will also find numerous waterfalls in the area. A property manger is on-site in the office to answer any questions or be of assistance during your stay.

Rainbow's Promise located on beautiful Town Lake with 200 feet of shoreline and three acres of property. Rainbow's Promise is located within the Hiawatha National Forest, close to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and Munising, MI, 11
Mile drive through the forest. This 840 square foot cottage has 1 bedroom with a queen size bed, a 'ladder loft' with two twin size beds, a log style couch that folds into a double sleeper, and a bathroom with shower on the main floor. We have a full kitchen with dining table and extra space at the counter. A wood buring fireplace to warm the cottage on cool nights in the forest. Town Lake is a 'no wake' lake so a row boat with paddles and life preservers are provided so you can explore the 40 acres of water or dip your line for a chance at pike, bluegill, bass or perch. Bring your catch back to the dock and cook on the charcoal grill or over the large stone fire pit, firewood not included, but can be purchased in advance to be stacked for your arrival.

Further Details: Gaze into the light of the outdoor fire or sip a cool drink while lounging on the dock listening to the area birds and wildlife. You'll find Rainbow's Promise to be peaceful and serene and a place where you can get away from it all. Beautiful, Private and peaceful setting! 1 large bedroom cottage in Michigan's Upper Penninsula. The Cottage is located in Republic Michigan and sits on 12.5 acres and 970 ft of frontage on the Michigamme River. Very private, easy access, which is just about 100 yards off the Highway, so easily accessible in the summer and fall with any vehicle. Great kayaking river, nearby ATV and Snowmobile trails, many nearby lakes offering great Walleye, Northern Pike, Bass, and Panfish. There are also many nearby Trout streams, and Good Deer, Grouse Hunting. Our Cabin is easily accessible and very private. Enjoy beauty of our flowing river while relaxing on the porch with your morning cup of coffee. Then enjoy kayaking, canoeing, fishing, or just relaxing on the shoreline. You Will have 970 feet of river frontage to enjoy. There are many Bald Eagles, Deer, Turkey, and Occasionally Moose in the area. You will have the entire property to yourself and the surrounding wildlife. This Cottage is located 45 minutes from Iron Mountain, Michigan and 45 Minutes from Marquette Michigan. This is a nice central location to take in many beautiful U.P. attractions with an hour or less drive. we provide pretty much everything you will need during your stay.

Great deer hunting during the Michigan bow and gun deer seasons. lots of public land.

Great Location for ATV, UTV's, All Terrain Vehicles. There are many miles of roads and trails that are easily accessible and also many small remote lakes and streams to explore.

Book early for snowmobile season!! the cottage is located very close to trail number 5. very easy access and a nice warm cabin to return to after a long day on the trail.

There are also many ice fishing opportunities in the area, so if you are interested in trying ice fishing, there are many nearby lakes with good fishing for Bluegills, Crappie, Northern Pike, Walleye, Yellow Perch. If you are new to ice fishing, and want to give it a try, I would be happy to provide some assistance if available.

If you are interested in a Great Lakes Charter fishing trip, there are a couple of charters available in on Lake Superior that offer great Lake Trout fishing and only about an hour and a half drive from our cottage. if interested, please ask and I will gladly give you some contacts for a great charter fishing trip.

If you are looking for a boat rental, we have a 16' boat with a 25 hp motor that could be available for rent. if interested in a boat rental, please ask when booking.

The Marquette area, which is only about 45 minutes has many great dining options, shopping.

- "Very secluded. Very relaxing! Ken gave us all kinds of suggestions on things to do in the area. The cabin was very clean. It was supplied with everything you would need. Highly recommend this place." - "This is a wonderful, secluded, private little cabin right on the Michigamme river in the west side of Michigan's U.P. Cabin is clean and comfortable and exceptionally well equipped with a fire pit, a pellet smoker, and sitting area overlooking the river. The kitchen has everything you need, and the water is good to drink so no need to lug it with you. The area around the cabin is stunning, with mature trees providing shade following a clear area along the river offering a place to play or fish the river. Saw lots of animal tracks/scat including bear/deer/turkey. Saw lots of deer/turkey in the area. We didn't have time to fish, but the river was calling us! Ken and Sara quickly responded to any inquiries. Location is about 30 minutes from Ishpeming where you can find grocery stores; about 50 minutes to Marquette; about 90 minutes to Munising and the start of Pictured Rocks National Shoreline; and about 90 minutes to Escanaba which has a great public beach on Lake Michigan. There are many close-by water-falls, lakes for fishing/kayaking, and trails for hiking. We couldn't possibly have explored them all! Couple of things to be aware of. -The cabin is only 300 feet from the highway. So at 0530 every morning you start hearing the big trucks coming down the hill, over the bridge, and back up the hill. Our cottage is a cozy, two-story Cape Cod which includes all the conveniences of home with the sights, sounds and surroundings of Lake Superior. The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with a new stove and refrigerator. There are beds to sleep 6, which includes a bedroom downstairs with a full bed and an upstairs loft with 1 full bed and 2 twin beds. In addition to the full bathroom there is a sauna with wood burning stove and an extra shower that allows for bigger groups to get ready quicker. The large wood deck off the back of the cottage has a charcoal barbeque grill and picnic table. The use of our detached garage is available. Evenings can be enjoyed sitting next to a camp fire.

Updated bathroom with a new sink/cabinet, toilet and flooring. All linens, towels and bedding are available for your convenience. Please bring your own beach towels. A washer and dryer are also available. The cottage has a television with Fire Stick and DVD player. There is WiFi service. The phone is available for local calls and 911 services.

Right on the property we enjoyed views of Grand Island, Sun and Moon rises, strolls on the beach, dinners on the deck, campfire, black bear sighting and the Northern lights! The space
There are 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with a full sized bed. There is a third room that has fitness equipment, including an Assault Fitness manual treadmill, weights, a fitness box and a yoga mat. The lower level has an open concept living room, kitchen, dining room and sunroom overlooking the lake with a sauna. A sliding glass door leads out to a spacious deck. The deck stairs lead to a grassy area where native wildflowers grow and the lake shore is a few yards away. There is a small private beach area that you can wade into the water. The lake is shallow and sandy for about 50 feet beyond the shore. If northern lights are visible, this is a great viewing location because there's a clear view of the northern sky over the lake and there's no light pollution.

This house is about as remote as you can get in the UP while still being able to stay connected with high speed fiber optic internet. Guests can use the internet and work from home by connecting to the wifi and make calls and texts by enabling wifi calling on their phones. The space revolves around the view of lake to help guests disconnect and reconnect with nature so there is no TV but you can stream via Wi-Fi on your own device.

The property is very private because the lake is on the back side and Hiawatha National Forest borders another side. This is the only winter-occupied house on this section of the lake, so you will feel like you have the whole lake to yourself. In the summer, trees block the view of the neighboring house. Neighbors are very quiet so we hope guests will keep the peace as well. Across the water is another section of Hiawatha National Forest, which provides a nice view of nature and a small island.

Please note that there are some minor unfinished trim details in the living room, bathroom and utility room. It shouldn't affect the quality of your stay, but I wanted to make guests aware in case aesthetics are important to you.
Guest access
Guests will be able to access the full house, minus one small armoire closet and shelving unit in the utility room where I keep personal items because I use the house when it's not being rented. Garage access is not available. Guests are able to access Stella Lake and Hiawatha National Forest from the property.
Other things to note
4 wheel drive is required October 1 - May 31. This house is "off the beaten path." The road will be plowed year round, but it can be rough with potholes, depending on weather conditions.

The house is in a very remote location and GPS gives incorrect directions. Before you arrive, please see the written directions in the directions section.

There is no cell phone service in the area, but you will be able to use your phone like normal by connecting to the wifi and enabling wifi calling.

To offer a wellness-focused experience, this house has a fitness room with a treadmill, weights and yoga mat, a sauna, stainless steel pots, pans and cooking utensils, glass cookware, spices, olive oil, coffee and tea.

I have taken extra care to provide a hypoallergenic space by not allowing pets, using fragrance-free cleaning products, keeping the house pesticide free and providing a dehumidifier and humidifier. I can't guarantee that your specific allergies will be accommodated, but I have gone above what is typical of a VRBO hosts to improve indoor air quality.

To reduce interruptions during your stay, snow removal will only happen after an accumulation of 4 inches. A shovel is provided if you want to remove snow on walkways. For accumulations over 4 inches, snow removal will happen without advance notice. Snow removal may happen at night time during heavy snowfalls to reduce the chance of you getting snowed in.

A spacious living room, and even a dedicated workout room. While the hosts were thoughtful enough to provide two kayaks for our use (along with safety vests), we were never able to fit them into our schedule. A really nice (and totally unexpected) addition was the presence of three hummingbird feeders, which were in very active use throughout our stay. Watching hummingbirds at any time of day provided far better entertainment than a TV would have (we have yet to turn on a TV at any vacation rental home we have used, so the absence of one was a benefit, although I understand others may feel differently. All in all, a place I hope to return to the next time we visit the upper peninsula. "

Our cottage is nestled in one of the many small coves and inlets that make up Lost Lake, a private, sand-bottom lake that's great for swimming and watersports. We're just 10 miles south of downtown Munising - the gateway to Pictured Rocks; we're surrounded by hundreds of miles of roads and trails which boast amazing fall colors; and we're just 3 miles away, as the crow flies, from the Buckhorn Resort and snowmobile Trail 7. Come enjoy a cup of coffee in the breakfast nook or out on the back deck overlooking the lake; take a paddle boat or kayak out on the lake (or drill a hole in the ice) to catch a fish; get out and explore some of our hiking trails during our beautiful fall color season; take your sleds out and ride the snowmobile trails all day, then relax in the entertainment room after a long day of exploring Pictured Rocks or the Hiawatha National Forest.

The House and Property:

The 2-car garage, sitting on top of a small hill, is the first building you’ll see. It’s perfect for parking your sleds, other grown-up toys, or your vehicles. The house itself sits farther downhill, and the driveway features a concrete pad and allows for extra car parking or a turnaround spot. Below the wraparound deck is a walk-out basement (not yet ready for visitors) that leads directly to the beach area with a seasonal dock, a fire pit, and seating area.

The house has a full kitchen stocked with enough dishes, utensils and cookware to whip up simple meals for your group. A microwave, coffee maker, toaster and blender also make it easy for you to grab something on the run if the outdoors is calling you.

This 3-bedroom house has the master bedroom situated on the opposite side of the smaller two, allowing for more privacy. The two smaller bedrooms share a bathroom, while the master has a private one. With a queen bed, two twin beds, and a twin bunk bed/full-size futon combo, six people will have plenty of space. There are also two separate living room/entertainment areas, should your group want to have smaller breakouts.

Free 15/2 Mbps wifi, Roku, and DVD player are available if you prefer to settle indoors. The house is set up with a landline phone that has local phone call capabilities. Verizon service has worked here, but depending on your cell phone carrier, your service may vary.

If you need to cool down or warm up fast from playing outside in our 4-season playground, there is a water bubbler, along with a Keurig, at your disposal. The laundry room is also good for popping something into the dryer for a quick warm-up, or to dry your beach towels if you've been swimming all day. We also have "nature's dryer," a clothesline, out back.

Outdoors enthusiasts? You’re just 10 miles from Munising, the gateway to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and it's beautiful all year round! You can't hike very far without stumbling upon one of the ubiquitous waterfalls in this area, and the North Country National Scenic Trail runs right along Lake Superior on its way from North Dakota to Vermont.

Valley Spur is also nearby and offers skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and mountain biking.

Are you into fishing? You’ve got plenty of national forestland, lakes, and streams to accommodate you. But the best-kept secret is our private lake, which boasts some of the best bass fishing in the area (guests have also caught plenty of northern pike and panfish - right from shore).

In summertime enjoy water activities like swimming, kayaking, and SUP-ing, right out your back door. We’ve got people-powered watercraft for your personal use, and also indoor games for kids both large and small, because you never know what type of weather Mother Nature will provide!

For snowmobilers: access hundreds of miles of trails right outside the front door. The Buckhorn Resort (on Trail 7) is just 3 miles away as the crow flies on the trails or 11 miles via the roads.

Explorers: You may choose to day trip across the UP to Tahquamenon Falls State Park, Kitch-iti-Kipi (the Big Spring), Marquette’s Sugarloaf Mountain, Seney Wildlife Refuge, Mackinac Island, or visit Sault Saint Marie and take a Soo Locks boat tour from your Lost Lake home base.

Whether you're bundled up like a snowman tackling the drifts or down to your swim trunks splashing around our swimming hole, you'll have a blast out here on Lost Lake!

Welcome to the Captain’s Residence! This unique historic rental is located on the grounds of Lighthouse Park in Marquette, Michigan, a small peninsular park that juts out into Lake Superior and is capped by the iconic red Marquette Harbor Light. This property is surrounded on three sides by Lake Superior and is the easternmost home in the City! Historically, this home was the residence of Coast Guard Captains of years past until the property was given to the City.

The space
The first story contains the living room, dining room, and a full kitchen. The living room overlooks Marquette Bay and is the perfect place to spend a morning. The dining room seats six and has windows overlooking Lighthouse Park and the forested area in the back of the house. The house is on a peninsula and gets a lovely cross breeze off of Lake Superior with the windows open. A curated collection of local art is displayed throughout the house!

There are three bedrooms on the second story, the Southern facing rooms each have a queen bed and the Northern facing room has two twin beds. The queen rooms have a magnificent view of Lake Superior and Marquette Bay. The twin room looks out onto the rear forested portion of the property where McCarty's Cove, Lake Superior, and even Presque Isle can be seen through the trees. The full bathroom is also located on this level.

The property is located on the grounds of Lighthouse Park and is steps from the Marquette Harbor Light on the East side of the property and the City Multi-Use Path on the West side. The park is open to the public from 7 a.m.- 10 p.m. each day.

The space
There are 2 bedrooms with queen beds. There is a third room that has fitness equipment, including an Assault Fitness manual treadmill, weights, a fitness box and a yoga mat. The lower level has an open concept living room, kitchen, dining room and sunroom overlooking the lake with a sauna. The kitchen comes with plates, utensils, glasses, stainless steel pots and pans and glass baking pans, an electric kettle and coffee machine, as well as coffee, olive oil and a large selection of spices. A sliding glass door leads out to a spacious deck with an outdoor couch and a hammock. The deck stairs lead to a grassy area where native wildflowers grow. There is an outdoor fire pit and the lake shore is a few yards away. There is a small private sandy beach area where you can wade into the water. The lake is shallow and sandy for about 50 feet beyond the shore. Two kayaks are available for guests to use. If northern lights are visible, this is a great viewing location because there's a clear view of the northern sky over the lake without light pollution.

This house is about as remote as you can get in the UP while still being able to stay connected with high speed fiber optic internet. Guests can use the internet and work from home by connecting to the wifi and make calls and texts by enabling wifi calling on their phones. The space revolves around the view of lake to help guests disconnect and reconnect with nature so there is no TV but you can stream via Wi-Fi on your own device.

The property is very private because the lake is on the back side and Hiawatha National Forest borders another side. This is the only winter-occupied house on this section of the lake, so you will feel like you have the whole lake to yourself. In the summer, trees block the view of the neighboring house. Neighbors are very quiet so we hope guests will keep the peace as well. Across the water is another section of Hiawatha National Forest, which provides a nice view of nature and a small island.

Winter guests will enjoy many options for snowmobiling. The house is about 7 miles from the snowmobile trail, which can be accessed via the path along Hwy 440. If you prefer to drive to the trail, Midway General Store, which is 1/8 mile from the trail, allows parking for $5/day. There are also a number of seasonal roads that can be accessed from the house if you prefer to make your own trail. Ice fishing is also an option on Stella Lake when ice conditions allow.

Guests will be able to access the full house, minus one small armoire closet and shelving unit in the utility room where I keep personal items because I use the house when it's not being rented. Garage access is not available. Guests are able to access Stella Lake and Hiawatha National Forest from the property as well as a number of seasonal roads where you can walk, bike, snowmobile or use ATVs.

Other things to note
4 wheel drive or all wheel drive is required October 1 - May 31. This house is "off the beaten path." The road will be plowed year round, but it can be rough with potholes, depending on weather conditions.

The house is in a very remote location and GPS gives incorrect directions. Before you arrive, please see the written directions in the directions section.

There is no cell phone service in the area, but you will be able to use your phone like normal by connecting to the wifi and enabling wifi calling.

To offer a wellness-focused experience, this house has a fitness room with a treadmill, weights and yoga mat, a sauna, stainless steel pots, pans and cooking utensils, glass cookware, spices, olive oil, coffee and tea.

I have taken extra care to provide a hypoallergenic space by not allowing pets, using fragrance-free cleaning products, keeping the house pesticide free and providing a dehumidifier and humidifier. I can't guarantee that your specific allergies will be accommodated, but I have gone above what is typical of Airbnb hosts to improve indoor air quality.

To reduce interruptions during your stay, snow removal will only happen after an accumulation of 4 inches. A shovel is provided if you want to remove snow on walkways. For accumulations over 4 inches, snow removal will happen without advance notice. Snow removal may happen at night time during heavy snowfalls to reduce the chance of you getting snowed in.

At the end of your day take a nice swim, grill your dinner (you will need to bring charcoal) or have a bonfire in the firepit (bring firewood you can pick it up at most convenience stores) overlooking the water or just relax on the deck or in the porch and enjoy the views.

Our clean, modern cottage is located on Ostrander Lake in the heart of Michigan’s Hiawatha National Forest. Our property is private river front on the Michigamme River. There is a place to park your car and snowmobile and a place to dock your boat. There is a public boat landing about 1.5 miles away. You will have access to the entire house.

There is a small Mini Market within walking distance. There is also a well stocked hardware store with some groceries in South Republic, about 5 miles away. Also within walking distance is a church, Pine Grove Bar and Summer Place Restaurant. Summer Place is a great family run restaurant with a great menu, however they do not take credit cards. We are the 12th cabin on the lakeside (right side). GPS will stop you 200 yards short of the mailboxes just continue until you see the mailboxes and follow the above directions. It may also bring you in off road thru narrow roads and trails. Do NOT use gps. I don't know how many times we have to share this... do not use gps use our directions.

The space
The simple ranch style cottage has 2 bedrooms.
Please note: The simple ranch style cottage has 2 bedrooms.The furniture, windows and flooring are all older and the cabin is solely for those with simple tastes. This is not a place if you are particular in any way, shape or form. This cabin is priced lower than others in the area due to the need for updates. Road can be rough going down to cabin, so if your car rides low, please use caution.

One bedroom has a King bed and a room with 2 Double beds. Turtle Cove has a large living/dining room to enjoy the relaxing view of the lake or watch TV. Cabin is equipped with basic Wi-Fi. There is also a cell phone booster for those of you that have Verizon. The living area includes a futon and a sleeper sofa as well. The kitchen has an oven, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, blender, toaster, silverware and dishes for your use. Two bathrooms each have their own shower, one of which is between the bedrooms. A washer and dryer are located within one of the bathrooms. A propane grill and fire pit are lakeside. Town Lake is known to be a good swimming/fishing/and quiet boating lake. Pete's Lake nearby is known as the all-sports lake. The cottage is only a couple hundred yards from Forest Glen convenience store where gas, boats, jet skis, pontoons, bait and ice cream can be enjoyed.

Miners Falls: it is a waterfall located on Miners River in the western portion of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Alger County, Michigan. The falls drops about 40 feet over a sandstone outcrop with a 10-foot crest.
Mini Golf: Miners Falls Mini Golf & located in Wetmore the Eagle Falls Adventure Golf
Garden Bay Winery: About 40 mins away in Cooks, MI (20 miles west of Manistique) on US Hwy 2. also have a wine tasting room where you can sample their wine.

Airport: The closest airport is at Sawyer International Airport in Marquette (MQT), 48 miles from the cottage
65 miles to Escanaba (ESC) normally has the best rates. Flying to the Upper Peninsula is rarely at a discount.

Boat Launch: Town Lake is a private lake which is unofficially a no-wake lake. It is a quiet lake. You can rent a boat the Forest Glen General Store across the lake and launch from there. There is no official launch for Town Lake at Turtle Cove. There is not a public launch on the lake. A small boat may be possible to launch, yet it is not recommended.

Fishing: A variety of pan fish, including redbreast sunfish, redear sunfish and largemouth bass. You are required to purchase a fishing license. You can get it online at the DNR.

Swimming: Not a traditional swimming beach. The entire lake is hard sandy bottom. You can swim here-but the lake does get deep pretty quickly, so small kids should be monitored closely. The first 10 feet from shore goes from 0 ft to 2 ft. the next 10 ft from shore goes from 2 ft. to 5-6 ft. then drops to 12 ft. pretty quickly. There is a more traditional shallow water beach less than 1 mile away at Pete's Lake Day Use Area.

Classic UP Cottage on Big Shag Lake. 20 mins from KI Sawyer Airport, 35 mins from Marquette, 1 hour from Munising. Enjoy fishing off the dock, paddling around the lake, swimming and a Sauna! 12' aluminum row boat, a two person paddle boat, two sit on kayaks, a SUP, and a kids kayak included. Big Shag Lake is an all sport lake that is perfect for swimming, fishing and boating. There is a public launch, bring your boat! Enjoy fantastic sunsets on the deck and stargazing after dark.

Two pairs of snowshoes provided for winter adventures

WIFI and basic Cable provided, wood provided for outdoor firepit. No indoor fires allowed. No A/C fans are provided in bedrooms.

New 30' long x 5' wide dock for summer 2025 perfect for fishing and all watersports. Bass and sunfish can be caught right off the dock. Michigan fishing license required, bring your pole and some worms!

Swim at your own risk, life jackets are provided and must be worn if out on kayaks/SUP or in row boat. The shore is a mix of sand and rocks. The lake is about 7' deep at the end of the dock and quickly drops down to 30' deep. There is a parking area for boat trailers at the cottage and a public launch nearby.

It is our family cottage no parties or events. You will have the place to yourself but our neighbors are nearby and will call us if noise level is not reasonable.

8 people can be accommodated with a provided air mattress.

Due to the location of the properties, smoking is strongly discouraged around the home and strictly prohibited in the home. Parking: There is a half-circle drive with room for 5 cars MAX.

Snowmobiles: a person (resident and nonresident) that operates a snowmobile in Michigan is required to purchase a snowmobile trail permit. The trail permit enables snowmobilers to ride state-designated trails and thousands more miles of public roads and on public lands (where authorized). It is valid for one year, which begins Oct. 1 and ends Sept. 30 of the following year. State-designated trails are open Dec. 1-March 31 and grooming occurs when there is enough snow on the ground.

Our cozy, and clean home openly sits on Town Lake, a 40-acre spring fed body of water with depths of up to 30ft that's great for swimming, fishing, kayaking and canoeing. This quiet serene place is perfect for families and friends to relax, recharge and decompress in the UP’s pristine natural beauty. (No A/C in the summer.)

The space
As you drive down our country road, you immediately feel the lake's majestic charm. The space inside is clean and cozy and offers all the amenities you would have at home. The view of the lake from the kitchen and living room is storybook. There is gas wall heating in each room with the option to use the wood fire stove on colder nights. There is a campfire pit outside along with four Adirondack chairs you can relax in. Step outside onto the back patio and your just a few paces to the dock where there is a flat bottom boat and canoe that sits four. A fishing paradise, with a handful of homes that dot the lakeshore. Townline is only accessible to owners and guests. There are no issues with overfishing here. Throw a line in and catch a bass, northern pike or panfish.
