- "The cottage comfortably accommodated four adults. The view of the lake is spectacular. The area was quiet and secluded. However, the stairs down to the dock and the dock itself are a bit unsteady." - "I stayed here with some friends and family this past summer. It's a beautiful view, with a protected bay. The lake side/water front is somewhat secluded, and the fire pit location is great. The dock is what it is- it's a dock, and it's not necessarily unsafe, but caution should be used, especially around young children. But that's a rule with any dock. The one plus with this cottage would be if you could bring your boat and use the hoist- the owners kept their boat in the hoist, which they can absolutely do, but having direct water access increases the interest in renting in the area, IMHO. There were issues with the septic system, and we all noticed it- especially after we all took showers. One review just touched on this issue. There were some other minor things, like having the A/C unit in the living room taped off and unusable- but, then again, I don't come up to Northern Michigan needing A/C. It would, however, be nice to have that option. The other nice amenity would be for people staying at this cottage to have access to cable or satellite- so many rentals in the area have this, it's a plus. Internet is not something I'm looking into when I rent, but, again, it's very nice to have. This rental has a ton of potential- I, myself, have rented several different locations around the Burt Lake/Mullett Lake area over the years- this one in particular could be one of the 5 star places, but some things need to be updated before that happens."

Our cottage is a clean 2 bed, 1 bath vacation home with room for six. Set amongst lofty pines in the quaint little town of Topinabee, it is an easy stroll from Mullett Lake -- part of Northern Michigan's famed Inland Waterway. A short drive away are Mackinac Island, Mackinaw City, Indian River's Cross In The Woods, the Boyne area ski resorts, Petoskey, and the shores of Lake Huron and Little Traverse Bay.
- "My husband, son and I had a great stay at this cottage! We stayed for 7 nights and loved the location and also appreciated the long driveway for our boat. My son and I loved how close the cottage was to trails for running and walking, esp with the beautiful views of Mullett Lake. The cottage was very well stocked with everything you could possibly need! We enjoyed our stay so much that we have already booked a week for next summer :-)" - "We loved the cozy cottage. It was just right for our family. There is so much to do in the area and the host was happy to give me recommendations when I asked. My 2 and 3 year old daughters loved having their own room with their own beds. The swing set in the back yard was definitely a bonus for our kids and kept them busy while we cooked and packed up. It was such a nice time. We would like to go back."

BRINGING A BOAT? Please let us know for valuable information! We can accommodate a boat up to 18 feet. We are on a two track along side the lake and on a dead end so it makes it difficult to trailer both your vehicle and boat attached on trailer down the road so any boat especially bigger than 18' should put the boat in the water first as you have to pass up the boat launch enroute to the cottage and both drivers of boat and vehicle w/trailer can meet at Sunrise which is only less than 2 blocks distance from launch so its really close otherwise you will have issues. Please be so kind and let host know you are bringing a boat so we can give you details to make your arrival seamless. There is one whole side of the dock for guest usage, no lift.

- "We loved the outdoor deck looking out to the water and the location near Pigeon River. We saw Eagles, Lunes and Belted Kingfishers. Enjoyed the boats. I was unable to sit on the matching couch and chair because of the dog dander and smell. I am allergic. Everything else was great." - "The cabin was very clean everything supplied. It could have used some brighter lights and more of them. Would stay again we had a wonderful time and it is located in a great area to sight see a lot without driving along way."

- "Cottage was well stocked with everything you need for a great stay." - "From the beginning communication with Claudia, to her flexibility with us bringing our fur-babies, to arriving to such an exceptionally well-appointed vacation rental, we were made to feel at home. The kitchen was well stocked with all the dishes, utensils, spices, coffees and teas we could need. The grill and flat iron griddle were a welcome cook feature. The dock was a perfect place to bring our 17-foot fishing boat and 23 foot tri-toon. We enjoyed exploring Mullett Lake, Indian River and Burt Lake. Very generous mayfly hatch made fishing more of a meditation activity than a catching crusade. But as they say, "A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work" Overall, this has been the BEST VRBO our combined 3 families have enjoyed in the last 6-years. Highly recommend Claudia's Valla Villa!! Thank you, Claudia"

- "Such an adorable cozy cottage! Located on the peaceful Sturgeon River. We Enjoyed our week as it is close to everything you could need. The owners are wonderful people offering so many extra’s. You could not be disappointed in choosing this vacation rental." - "This is an immaculate rental with every amenity you can think of in place and the owners were next-door, ready and willing to help out with whatever you might need. We really enjoyed the location which is extremely convenient right off of I 75 and on the sturgeon river just less than ~10 houses in from Burt Lake. We use the kayaks and the paddleboards, which was a lot of fun on the river. We brought a very large boat that is 22 feet long and quite deep and had a little bit of difficulty getting out into the lake, but nothing insurmountable. There were some spots that were very shallow, so just listen closely to directions and you should be fine if you are bringing a deep v boat. Both the owners are incredibly kind and helpful, which our kids who are between the ages of three and 10 commented on multiple times. And we would agree. Their dog is super sweet and great with kids too. The house itself is very updated with a well-stocked kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms. Beds were very comfortable and the pull out couch fit two small kids no problem. Everything felt very high quality and thoughtful. Definitely not a rustic upper Michigan cottage. This is a very comfortable, upscale place to stay. We didn’t make it there but there’s also a nice beach just a block or so away. Easy to walk and accessible. Overall this was a great stay. I would highly recommend!!"

Enjoy dazzling sunsets from your deck overlooking scenic Burt Lake!
Home Features:
Our cottage features a bright, open floor plan with a loft. You can relax inside with stunning lake views through the two-story “wall of windows” overlooking the water, or feel the cool lake breezes on the screened-in porch with attached deck. There are pine ceilings throughout and a stone fireplace for an authentic 'rustic' feel, as well as a large, modern kitchen, and full-sized laundry room. The cottage is our family's 'home away from home'. We only rent it out a few weeks a year.
Property Features:
The secluded, wooded lot includes 90 feet of private beachfront. Enjoy listening to the waves wash up against the beautiful smooth rock beach, or take a relaxing swim off the end of the dock, where the lake depth is about three feet, with a sandy bottom, for approximately 100 feet beyond the end of the dock. Burt lake is crystal clear - PERFECT FOR SWIMMING!! A twelve-acre nature preserve immediately behind the property and the 'Seven Springs' nature preserve about a mile away offer great hiking. The property also includes a buoy for mooring small (less than 21ft) boats and the use of both a canoe and a kayak. Two of the bedrooms feature queen-sized beds, one of the bedrooms includes a bunk bed and another twin bed, and the fourth, smaller, bedroom is furnished with a standard double bed.
Area Features:
Burt lake is on northern Michigan’s “inland waterway” that includes a chain of four lakes and four fully navigable rivers. Nearby attractions include Mackinac Island, the Mackinac Bridge, and the charming resort towns of Harbor Springs and Petoskey. Sport and pontoon boat rentals are available at several local marinas. Other nearby activities include hiking, golf, horseback riding, and canoe and rafting trips.
SOME ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- The cottage does not have WiFi or cable TV service.
- We are on the windy side of the lake. While the lake is generally calm, this means that outdoor fires and overnight boat mooring are not permitted.
- Burt lake state park is about 5 miles away and has a good boat launch, and several local marinas offer short-term boat slip rentals. Unfortunately, renters are not permitted to use the boat hoist.
- Occupancy is strictly limited to 8 people. We are on a quiet, family-oriented beach, and we want to keep good relations with our neighbors!

The owner was very responsive and easy to get in touch when needed. The waves on this side of Burt can be a little rough so it is not feasible to dock at the cabin, otherwise there is a lot of stuff to do for any age group."

- "We were a group of anglers up at Indian river for a bass tournament. There were 6 of us with 3 truck and trailer rigs. Plenty of room for vehicles. Homeowners lived next door and were super welcoming. Got home the first evening after fishing and we had a fire bull for us and plenty more wood for the week. The cabin is open and spacious. Great for a larger group like ours." - "Was very clean when we walked in. Very spacious and the 2 separate living areas was very nice. Owner was very nice. When renting please be aware that you need to bring your own paper towels and tp. Beds were super comfy. Overall a great experience."

- "This place was awesome and had everything we needed to have an enjoyable stay: cooking space and utensils, access to the lake, space for the kids, plenty of towels, Internet and tv, a kayak, a dock onto the lake, a porch swing… The fire pit and the sunset lake views made it extra magical. The only downside was the lack of ventilation/cooled air to the second story where most of the beds were. A big thank you to Jimmy for hosting us here and we are looking forward to our next planned stay here hopefully for our vacation next year."
