Cottage on the Lake!!
Northern Bruce Peninsula Short Term Accommodation Class A/B permit #NBP-2021-557
Welcome to our beautifully restored waterfront cottage on scenic Lake Huron. Enjoy a clear view of the crystal blue waters of Warner Bay from the living room, or the huge second story deck. The original cottage was built in the 1970s and we were lucky to purchase it in 2009 from the first owners. In 2018 we made the leap into a full renovation to expand the capacity and make it super family friendly. We tastefully finished the interior with natural wood trim, solid wood doors, and ample natural light. You can relax in the same comfort of a modern home with the upgraded electrical, water filtration system, new plumbing, clean and modern bathrooms, and safety with CO and smoke alarms per modern building codes. This place has the charm of a waterfront cottage, but the peace of mind of a brand new home. On calm days the bay is amazing for canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding and swimming. The shoreline is rocky and does require some attention until you reach the smoother part of the lakebed. It’s shallow for quite a while and the clarity is stunning on calm days. Some type of water shoe or sandal is recommended. Enjoy an open fire by the shore or relax on the deck and listen to the water lapping against the rocks. Tobermory is less than 10 minutes by car and close enough to cycle for those wanting some exercise.
*** Occupancy Limits ***
Due to the Municipal Short-Term Accommodations (STA) bylaw we are limited to a maximum of 10 guests sleeping at the cottage. This limit further states that the 9th and 10th guests must be children aged 12 years or younger. We have beds for 6 adults and 4 children/youth (bunk beds). Therefore we can have up to 6 adults (18 years or older) + 2 youth (under 18yrs) + 2 children (12yrs or under).
We apologize for the complexity of the guest limits, and encourage you to seek more information on the bylaw from the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula.

Please make the utmost effort to leave no trace of garbage or recycling, leave any areas you visit as you found them, respect the wildlife, wilderness, and respect locals and other visitors. We can all enjoy the peninsula together and show the locals how grateful we are of their stewardship and hospitality.
*** Cleaning and Linens/Towels ***
Our cottage is professionally cleaned and disinfected thoroughly between guests. Linens and bath towels can be request for an added laundering fee. You will be required to bring all bedding and towels for your stay if you DO NOT request linens at the time of your booking.
Check-in is always 4pm, check-out is always 11am. Our cleaners need as much time as possible to properly turn over the cottage between guests.
Thank you for checking out our rental!! If you have any questions before booking please send us an inquiry and we'll answer ASAP.
We hope you will book and have a beautiful stay on the incredible Bruce Peninsula.
Cheers!

The cottage is very clean, rustic and modern at the same time, and extremely well and quality equipped with everything what we needed and more, including the kayaks, which we used a lot. We usually eat out but this time actually preferred to barbecue at “home” to take advantage of the serenity and beauty of the place. For the quality, and everything the property has to offer, the price is well worth and it’s one of the places we would always come back. Thank you very much, Volodymyr!"

- "Overall really nice property. It’s a new build so the property will continue to gain and offer more amenities. Our party was fully satisfied with the home and property grounds. The kayaks were nice to take out on the inlet to fish. We caught a few bass. That was really fun. The kitchen was amazing and the family room open and comfortable. We spent a lot of time in front of the beautiful electric fireplace. .The house has an open concept which made it comfortable and spacious for our party of 7. My sons loved the rooms they were split level with two beds. Really a great design idea. The inner courtyard was amazing. My mother enjoyed her morning tea and devotional out there in the AM. All of the rooms were comfortable and well appointed. My suggestions for improvement would be to supply wash cloths for baths/showers. Each room had towels, but no wash clothes were provided. Also, it would be nice to have a floor towel/bath mat to step onto when exiting the shower, especially since we were traveling with my parents. We had to put towels down but didn’t have many to spare. Again overall great property that I would not hesitate to visit again."

Our first impression was not the greatest, though. The auto code for door didn't work, plus the driveway and exterior landscape of the home was overgrown. We missed the turninto the property. Disappointed since the pictures on VRBO were very different. No TV in the main living area, BBQ was unusable and needs to be replaced, and the shower head needs replacement. These little fix ups would make a big difference. The host was very apologetic and answered me very promptly with my questions and concerns. Definitely still stay here, but these points to consider. I am sure the host will make the necessary fixes."

Have you ever wondered about why the waters of Georgian Bay can appear to take on a beautiful aqua colour? It's a product of light refracting through calcite in the water.
Calcite comes from the dolostone that makes up the escarpment. Rainfall events (rain is naturally slightly acidic) or water agitating surrounding rocks can cause calcium carbonate to leech from the stone or other calcium-rich compounds, such as marl, and crystallize in the lake water, becoming calcite. These crystals double-refract the light (also called birefringence), creating the beautiful hue that our eyes see.
This is the second post of a series about the geology of the Niagara Escarpment.

Bring bug spray, and get gas before you get to Tobermory proper" - "Very nice property.... they handled any concerns quickly and efficiently....Looks to be a well run business..." - "We had a perfectly fine time. Comfortable. Great view. Little breezy for the kayak but, hey, watcha gonna do. One small thing. Kids wanted to watch a movie but the dvd player was frozen shut. After ten minutes I gave up and the kids had another thing going on by then so nothing was lost. Still, its worth looking into. The hot tub was great for a cool evening but when the kids started playing with the buttons it would eventually get cranky and stop responding. Found the main power which set it up right again, but kids being kids they did it once more. Nonetheless we had a great time."

The property is beautifully decorated, comfortable, and the perfect blend of seclusion and convenience. This stunning property, fully renovated and upgraded in 2021, sits on five acres of a very private mature forest with over 500 ft. of pristine waterfront. The cottage faces Devil's Straits and the extraordinary Five Fathom Nation Marine Park, home to Canada's best shipwreck diving and snorkelling. This property is ranked five out of five for privacy and serenity.
With three bedrooms and a comfortable loft, this spectacular timber frame cottage, with soaring 30ft ceilings and massive beams, will easily accomodate 6 adults and a maximum of two children. The very open plan provides both breathtaking forest and lake views from all living areas. Elenriel is only a short 4km to the picturesque village of Tobermory. An easy bike ride or walk into town, with great restaurants, a brew pub, many boutique shops and a pretty harbour.
Turning into the winding 1000ft lane, you will see groves of birch, aspen and mature cedar. The forest surrounding Elenriel has many trails to explore by foot or snowshoe. The rocky beaches and crystal clear waters are perfect for walking or kayaking. Four kayaks and one canoe are available for our guests to use, providing they follow all the required safety regulations. Elenriel is on Hay Bay which has an endless variety of shoals and bays to explore by water, and of course, plenty of fishing.
Northern Bruce Peninsula is famous as an UNESCO World Biosphere and is home to Bruce Pennisula National Park, Singing Sands Park, Five Fathoms National Marine Park, the Bruce Trail, many unique Alvar nature reserves and Flowerpot Island. All these are only minutes away from Elenriel. Our Manager and Concierge will glady answer your questions and help you plan any trips you might like to further enjoy your stay.
As you enter Elenriel, there is a spacious entry and a mudroom to the right, where coats and boots can be stored. The closet has a range of life jackets from children to adults and safety kits for the kayaks. Watershoes are highly recommended for the rocky beaches. Some outdoor games and equipment are found here for enjoyment on the sizable front lawn.
As you round the corner on the left you will enter the great room with soaring ceilings and full height windows providing stunning views of the forest and bay. The focus of the room is the master stonemason built Rumford fireplace made of the very unique local limestone which was collected on the property during construction.
The furniture throughout this property is as unique as it is comfortable with many antique pieces collected from the owners' extensive travels and residencies in Australia, Indonesia and throughout South East Asia. Many local artists are featured here as well. And don't forget to check out the many puzzles and games that are stowed away in the Indonesian chest in the living room.
The fully equipped chef's kitchen, has black granite counter tops, a large deep stainless steel sink and plenty of room for gourmet cooking. A small breakfast counter for two adjoins. All the appliances were new in 2021. A new water filtration system was installed in 2021, to ensure safe, clean and soft water throughout the cottage. There is also a large bottled water cooler/heater. For dining, there is an reclaimed wood table next to the kitchen that seats eight, as well as a large outdoor table on the deck which also seats eight. For outside cooking, there is a new six burner Napoleon barbecue.
The main level also has a full bathroom, a custom sink again in black granite, and a large walk in shower. Elenriel cottage has two large water heaters, to provide plenty of hot water on demand. Off the same hallway is a laundry area with full size washer and dryer.
The main level bedroom has a queen-sized bed, dresser and closet with unique night tables and side lamps. Centred above the bed, is another wonderful example of local art by Allen Smutylo, an artist who has lived in the area since the 1970s and is now collected world-wide. The bookcase contains books for young adults and children that have been gathered over the years.
Located down the hall beside the main staircase, is a another bookcase filled with interesting literature and novels also to be enjoyed. The built-in desk is perfect for those who need to catch up on emails or work while they are here - or for quiet drawing or writing. This is where the router for the wifi is located.
Upstairs, you will find a lovely loft area that can be used for day lounging, reading or watching TV. The TV is new and WiFi enabled so you can access your favorite streaming accounts such as Netflix and Disney. This area can also be converted into a large double bed with drawers underneath.
The children's room, with two twin beds is situated adjacent to the loft. Children's art from Indonesia adorns the walls and children's books and toys are in the closet.
Down the open hallway, is the primary suite - pure luxury, with a hand-carved Indonesian king-sized four poster bed, soaring loft ceilings and an open view to the fireplace below. Large windows frame a beautiful view of the sky and shoreline and sliding glass doors open out to the "Gin and Tonic" deck for great suntanning in the afternoon, followed by a lovely sunset view. This extensive room was inspired by a Swiss mountain lodge, with a substantial shower, deep soaking tub and a custom wood and black granite sink. Black slate floors in the bathroom area finish the design look. The washroom is tucked away in a private room behind the shower.
Elenriel cottage has been finished with an 800 square foot wrap-around cedar deck outside that is protected by plexiglass railings. The wide side deck accomodates the aforementioned outdoor table, and the deck facing the water has a generous seating area with sizable Muskoka chairs covered with comfortable cushions. The lower deck has two more chairs beside the six person hot tub that overlooks water, trees and the shoreline as part of its view.
Going down the stairs to the left of the hot tub, you will find a path that joins a wooden walkway through the trees to the dock area. The dock is 250 square feet and offers an incredible experience close to the water. Water birds, otters, beavers, even mink and the occasional fox have been seen to early risers who sit quietly and watch carefully. This is a wonderful area to be enjoyed for sunsets and stargazing as well. Please be cautious, as water levels have varied greatly over the past few years and the dock is no longer over the water. Children must stay well back from the edge and cannot run on the dock. There is a ramp there to provide safe access down to the rock slab beach.
The kayak launching area is left of the dock at the end of the path through the trees. The best swimming is located even further left from the kayaks and can be spotted by looking for a large smooth rock under the water. Water depths can range from 7 - 10 feet deep here. There is also great swimming off Bonnet Island - a 20 minute paddle across Hay Bay from the cottage. This is a great location for picnics and diving off the rocks into deeper areas. Further out from Bonnet Island, is one of the area's famous shipwrecks. Our Concierge will be glad to help direct you to Bonnet Island and the shipwreck should you wish to make the venture.
This is the first time Elenriel cottage will be available to rent since its renovation. All efforts have been made to make certain that all who come here will enjoy a truly exceptional experience!
- "A beautiful house and property. Everything needed for a quiet, comfortable lake house vacation was in this home. Would love to come back." - "My family and I stayed for 4 nights and we had a wonderful time. The home is comfortable and offered beautiful views. Would definitely recommend others to stay here!" - "We had a great vacation with our family (teenage sons and 4 adults - mom/dad and my sister and her husband). House was a great size, well equipped. Kayaks were great to explore the bay, kids and my sister/husband used the bikes to cycle into town (we brought extra helmets with us), and the hot tub was fabulous! We loved exploring the area - Tobermory was busy as expected as it was the middle of July but we found some quieter areas to hike and explore. Important to book your parking at some of the hiking spots and beaches in advance as they book up quickly!"

- "We had a nice weekend away at this cottage. The property and cottage itself is as described in the ad; nothing is misleading or inaccurate. The cottage was very organized and clean. We were impressed with the sunsets and outdoor opportunities nearby. We would recommend this location to our family and friends. Thank you. " - "Excellent experience. Lovely location. " - "Cottage was very comfortable, with beautiful views of the lake. Very rocky shoreline that extended all the way out into the lake. Very slippery, even with water shoes, and not suitable for young children. There should be a ladder on the dock to get in and out of water. Cutlery and kitchen implements were borderline. Nice fire pit area right in front. It was handy having access to washer and dryer. "

- "Great communication, as advertised, lots of little extras to help with cooking and making the best of rainy days. Highly recommend. " - "Would defiantly consider visiting again." - "The good - Great location, walking distance to downtown and lighthouse, not on water side, but convenient quiet and peaceful. Lovely cottage, 3 rooms, bedding included, clean, video games, board games, pool table - enough to keep everyone entertained and great outdoor space to eat with family/friends. The neutral - BBQ was not clean, 3 propane tanks but all were empty - we filled ourselves. Pool table is great, but all 6 cues have broken tips, no chalk. The bad - owner is not on site, so if things go wrong, it is difficult as in our case. 1) Hot water did not work - see error code - we tried resetting with permission. You get 15 seconds of hot water every few hours. Property manager did not show on Friday nor Saturday as promised - we were offered no alternatives. Owner is responsive and talks the talk, but does not walk the walk. We brought up compensation and verbally agreed, however, this amount became half after our stay, then we got ignored completely and received $0 compensation. Hot water is listed as an amenity in the other listing. Not being able to shower for 3 days with kids is not acceptable for a premium cottage. 2) The water is yellow/brown and has a smell. Strongly recommend bringing your own water. All in all, great place to stay, if water was working properly."

Welcome to Hay Bay: A Hidden Gem on the Northern Bruce Peninsula
Tucked away in one of the most coveted corners of Ontario’s stunning Bruce Peninsula, Hay Bay offers an unparalleled escape into nature, serenity, and exclusivity. Surrounded by the quiet beauty of inland waters, lush forest, and dramatic Georgian Bay coastlines, this secluded bay is just minutes from Tobermory—yet feels worlds apart from the bustle of everyday life.
Where Tranquility Meets Wild Beauty
Set in a sheltered pocket of the Northern Bruce Peninsula, Hay Bay is a serene retreat embraced by the rugged charm of this UNESCO-designated Biosphere Reserve. Whether you're kayaking across the glassy waters at sunrise or listening to the haunting calls of loons at dusk, nature takes center stage here. With Lake Huron to the west and Georgian Bay to the east, the peninsula delivers spectacular diversity—crystal-clear waters, dramatic cliffs, and pristine beaches.
Adventure Awaits Around Every Bend
Just a short drive from Hay Bay, Bruce Peninsula National Park offers a wonderland of scenic lookouts and wildlife encounters. From hiking the Bruce Trail to discovering the turquoise allure of the Grotto, this region is a dream for outdoor lovers. The nearby Fathom Five National Marine Park invites exploration below the surface—paddle, dive, or cruise by glass-bottom boat to uncover storied shipwrecks and the surreal rock formations of Flowerpot Island.
Local Charm, Northern Hospitality
A quick drive north brings you to Tobermory, a vibrant harbour town known for its nautical roots and artistic flair. Wander through boutique shops, discover local artisans, or indulge in the area’s culinary gems—whether it’s a classic fish fry at Shipwreck Lee’s, craft pints at Tobermory Brewing Co or fresh-caught whitefish with a view of Big Tub Harbour.
All-Season Wonder
Hay Bay is more than a summer destination. In autumn, the forests erupt in color, offering some of Ontario’s best leaf-peeping. Winter transforms the peninsula into a quiet snowscape ideal for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and winter hikes. Spring brings the chorus of returning birds and the first wildflowers, while summer dazzles with long, golden evenings and star-filled skies.
Picture-Perfect Sunsets
Thanks to its unique position, Hay Bay offers front-row seats to some of the most breathtaking sunsets in Ontario. Whether from your private dock or a peaceful lookout along the shoreline, you’ll witness skies ablaze with pink, orange, and deep indigo, reflected in the calm waters below.
A Private Retreat with Prime Access
With its exclusive setting at the end of Pedwell Point Drive, the cottage at Hay Bay feels miles from civilization, yet is only a short trip from iconic Bruce Peninsula attractions. Whether you’re craving quiet moments by the lake, thrilling adventures in the wild, or cozy evenings under the stars, this location offers the perfect balance of privacy and proximity.

Snail Court is a clean, one-story bungalow featuring an all-pine interior. Most rooms are equipped with ceiling fans, and due to its surroundings of rocks and trees, the cottage generally maintains a comfortable temperature indoors. Each room has new windows that can be opened.
Upon entering, you'll find a small foyer for storing outerwear, leading to the kitchen, which includes a microwave, a 30" oven/stove top, and a full-sized refrigerator with a small freezer on top. The cupboards are stocked with kitchenware, including a crock pot, coffee maker, toaster, George Foreman grill, casserole dishes, salad spinner, cutting boards, dishes, glassware, and cutlery. Extra containers are also available for storing leftover food for your hikes on the Bruce Trail. Paper towels, standard condiments, and plastic wrap are provided, along with tea towels and dish soap. The water is tested monthly and deemed safe to drink; however, we recommend bringing your own drinking water. A BBQ is available outside, with tin foil provided. Please remember to clean the BBQ after each use to avoid attracting bears.
From the kitchen, you can see the open-concept dining and living area. A large pine table is available for everyone to gather around, whether for board games, meals, or engaging conversations. We offer Wi-Fi and an Amazon Fire Stick on the TV, allowing you to sign in to your accounts.
The full bathroom features a tub with a shower, along with a toilet and sink in a vanity. Shampoo, liquid soap, and toilet paper are provided, but please bring your own bath towels; kitchen towels are available. There is hot water and good pressure in the shower.
Bedroom #1 features a closet and built-in drawers, along with a stylish Ikea white iron queen-sized bed that comes fully made with linens for your convenience. The mattress is a high-quality foam option. Please note, this room accommodates a maximum of two people due to new municipal regulations.
Bedroom #2 is equipped with a closet and built-in drawers as well, offering both a single bed and a double bed. The mattresses here are also quality foam from Foamite and Ikea, and they are ready for you to enjoy a restful night's sleep.
Our favourite spot is the front sunroom, which is perfect for relaxing with a book or simply enjoying the beautiful water views through the expansive windows that span two walls.
From the sunroom, you can step out onto the front patio, where outdoor furniture is provided. You will find folding chairs that can be adjusted for lounging or sitting around the fire pit. The Muskoka chairs are particularly cozy for enjoying the water scenery, and there are stacking plastic chairs available for fire gatherings. We provide firewood for your first night, and there are plenty of local options to buy more if needed.
If you prefer a quieter indoor setting for conversation, there is an enclosed gazebo furnished with basic seating.
The property is typically set back from the water, but this distance can change each year. Currently, it's about 100 steps to reach the water's edge. The water is shallow enough for young children to play safely under supervision, yet deep enough for adults to enjoy swimming. It's clear, and we provide water shoes since the bottom varies from flat rocks to boulders. You might often spot baby geese or paddlers in the area. While we do not have kayaks or canoes available, you are welcome to bring your own non-motorized water toys. It takes roughly ten minutes to paddle straight across the bay, or you can spend hours exploring the bay itself. More experienced paddlers can venture north or south along the Lake Huron shoreline, but be aware that the waters can be unpredictable!
The cottage is nestled along a picturesque road. This well-wooded property ensures privacy from nearby neighbours and the road. Kids might enjoy playing Robin Hood among the trees. The property is regularly groomed and well-maintained.
Local driving times - 10 minutes to Tobermory, 10 minutes to ChiCheemaun Ferry for Manitoulin Island, 10 minutes to Little Cove, 15 minutes to Singing Sands, 25 minutes to Bruce Peninsula National Park parking lot, 30 minutes to Halfway Log Dump parking lot, 40 minutes to Lion's Head, 40 minutes to Devil's Monument, and 60 minutes to Wiarton.
Additionally, it is a pleasant short drive to Singing Sands beach and walkway, the Bruce Trail, Dunks Bay sand beach, Bruce Peninsula National Park, and Flowerpot Island (accessible by boat). There are plenty of outdoor hiking and exploration opportunities to enjoy.
Wildlife thrives in this peaceful environment, and you are likely to spot a variety of birds, snakes, squirrels, and chipmunks. While you can share some peanuts with them at the fire pit, please remember to clean up any food scraps both inside and outside, as bears have been known to wander nearby! And keep doors closed - wildlife is not welcome in the cottage!
If you are seeking relaxation in a clean and tranquil atmosphere, this could be the perfect spot for you. Being in a rural area means that if the power goes out, you will only have access to water from the lake. There is a phone available for local calls and incoming calls, and cell service is generally reliable. Public phones can be found in Tobermory.
You will have the entire property to yourselves. We are always reachable by phone and available to help with any unexpected issues.
If your family is in search of a peaceful and safe getaway, our cottage is a great option. Just a reminder that guests are expected to clean up before leaving (make sure to check the house rules), but you will not need to worry about bedding! We do ask for a written agreement before renting to ensure everyone has a pleasant experience. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
So, if you believe Snail Court is where you want to be, send in the completed form!
Guest access
You have the entire property to yourself! Parking is available for two vehicles. There are well-loved bicycles available for guest use.
We will provide you with a personalized door code.
Other things to note
Roadside garbage pickup is Monday morning; otherwise you need to remove all garbage and deliver to the landfill site.
To expedite the booking process, submit this form in your request, as it will be the first thing we ask you do to! Be sure you are in agreement with the cleaning requirements listed at the end.
