- "I enjoyed a whole week with friends and family on beautiful Lake Huron. I got out on my stand-up paddle board (SUP) almost daily, an unexpected surprise for the winds of our Great Lakes. This property is the perfect location if you wish to do day trips to Singing Sands Beach, Fathom Five, The Gotto, Flower Pot Island, or Half-Way Log Dump and is conveniently located about 15 minutes from Tobermory. Perfect property, well-equipped cottage, and beautifully spacious for sitting indoors or outdoors in the cabana, on deck, or around the fire pit. A fire ban restricted us from having fires but did not impair our enjoyment in any way. The property is surrounded by a naturalized garden with wildflowers and the area is abundant with birds and wildlife. It was quiet, even over the weekend. Host Bryan was in touch with me the week before the rental to confirm contact details and provided all the necessary details to make this an excellent cottage vacation. Highly recommended!"

Guest Reviews:

- "Perfect secluded cottage to get away from it all." - "My family and I (wife and daughter), stayed for only a few short nights yet were blown away by the beauty, seclusion, and homely feel of the Lands End. With more time, I'm sure we would have settled in even further, but making the most of our limited time was easy with how close we were to Tobermory and all of the Bruce; parks, trails, waterfronts, and landscapes. The cost of visiting Tobermory has definitely gone up, as well as the amount of planning necessary to see the best of the Bruce Peninsula. This is not our first time in Tobermory, and every visit has been a wonderful experience in its own way. We were happy to share some of those experiences to our 5 year old daughter at the Lands End this year. Cheers! Jeff V. "

Bearfoot Lodge is situated on the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula beside the National Park, between Georgian Bay and Lake Huron. The area represents over 155 square kilometers at the tip of the Niagara Escarpment, which consists out of limestone cliffs, caves and underground streams, and ancient forests with some of the oldest trees in Canada. The neighbouring Bruce Peninsula National Park is comprised of an incredible array of habitats from rare Alvars to dense forests and clean lakes. Together these form a greater ecosystem - the largest remaining chunk of natural habitat in southern Ontario.

Guest Reviews:

- "Great cabin for visiting the Bruce Peninsula with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. It was just a short drive to popular spots in Tobermory and Lion's Head. The cabin had all needed ammenities and the hosts were very communicative in providing information on check-in and out, plus additional suggestions for things to do. Having six adults around the indoor and outdoor dining tables was a bit of a squeeze but totally doable. Although it's set back from the lake, it's within walking distance and a very short drive to the public lake access point. Would love to return."

Our favorite part of our stay was how shallow, clear and warm the water is. The cottage is just like the pictures. Very clean and well equipped with everything you would need for your stay. This special place is ready to welcome you – are you ready for an epic Tobermory adventure?!

Bruce Peninsula National Park has its off season from November 1st to April 30th. This means that you won’t need to make a reservation ahead of time. There also aren’t any time restraints to visit for the day as there are during the busier months. Stay as long as you’d like. While you will have to share the Grotto with crowds of people during the busier summer months, this is not the case in the winter. In fact, you might have the entire place to yourself, even if you visit on a weekend!

Visiting the Grotto at any age and anytime of the year is a truly amazing experience. Late spring, summer, and early fall can be very busy times at the Grotto so if you have the chance to visit during the off-season, November to April we highly recommend you do so. The Bruce Peninsula National Park is free to enter before the middle of May and after Canadian Thanksgiving in mid October, so it's cheaper and virtually empty so you feel like you have it all to yourself. There's plenty of places to hike and several spots to sit, relax, picnic, and enjoy the picturesque views.

Prepare to have your breath taken away in Tobermory, at the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula. This magical place is home to Flowerpot Island in Fathom Five National Marine Park. It’s one of Canada’s premiere freshwater diving destinations and the final resting place of some two dozen shipwrecks. Take an exciting Tobermory boat tour, swim in crystal clear waters, visit 19th century lighthouses, enjoy great shopping, dining and so much more. This picturesque historic fishing village is the place to shop, people watch, and eat ice-cream and fudge. Tour boats depart frequently from the harbour for shipwrecks, lighthouses and Flowerpot Island.

This tiny community is blessed with not one, but two harbours. Little Tub anchors the downtown core with shops, restaurants and boat tour operators, while the Tobermory Lighthouse guards the entrance to Big Tub Harbour. Planning a boat tour out to Flowerpot? There's a choice of two operators that land on the island, with others offering scenic tours of the rugged shoreline, shipwrecks and Flowerpot Island from the water. With more than 20 shipwrecks to explore, Tobermory is a diver’s paradise, and Divers Den has been training and serving scuba divers here since 1967.

Elenriel Cottage - Waterfront Timberframe
Apartment
Northern Bruce Peninsula, Ontario, Canada

This stunning property, fully renovated and upgraded in 2021, sits on five acres of a very private mature forest with over 500 ft. of pristine waterfront. The cottage faces Devil`s Straits and the extraordinary Five Fathom National Marine Park, home to Canada`s best shipwreck diving and snorkelling. This property is ranked five out of five for privacy and serenity.

STA-2025-21

Although we are new to the Airbnb platform, we are no strangers to hosting guests at the Elenriel Cottage. We have proudly provided 5 star accommodation to guests using other travel sites since 2004. We are looking forward to welcoming Airbnb travellers to our cottage.

With three bedrooms and a comfortable loft, this spectacular timber frame cottage, with soaring 30ft ceilings and massive beams, will easily accommodate 6 adults and a maximum of two children. The very open plan provides both breathtaking forest and lake views from all living areas. Elenriel is only a short 4km to the picturesque village of Tobermory. An easy bike ride or walk into town, with great restaurants, a brew pub, many boutique shops and a pretty harbour.

Turning into the winding 1000ft lane, you will see groves of birch, aspen and mature cedar. The forest surrounding Elenriel has many trails to explore by foot or snowshoe. The rocky beaches and crystal clear waters are perfect for walking or kayaking. Four kayaks and one canoe are available for our guests to use, providing they follow all the required safety regulations. Elenriel is on Hay Bay which has an endless variety of shoals and bays to explore by water, and of course, plenty of fishing.

Northern Bruce Peninsula is famous as an UNESCO World Biosphere and is home to Bruce Peninsula National Park, Singing Sands Park, Five Fathoms National Marine Park, the Bruce Trail, many unique Alvar nature reserves and Flowerpot Island. All these are only minutes away from Elenriel. Our Manager and Concierge will glady answer your questions and help you plan any trips you might like to further enjoy your stay.

As you enter Elenriel, there is a spacious entry and a mudroom to the right, where coats and boots can be stored. The closet has a range of life jackets from children to adults and safety kits for the kayaks. Watershoes are highly recommended for the rocky beaches. Some outdoor games and equipment are found here for enjoyment on the sizable front lawn.

As you round the corner on the left you will enter the great room with soaring ceilings and full height windows providing stunning views of the forest and bay. The focus of the room is the master stonemason built Rumford fireplace made of the very unique local limestone which was collected on the property during construction.

The furniture throughout this property is as unique as it is comfortable with many antique pieces collected from the owners` extensive travels and residencies in Australia, Indonesia and throughout South East Asia. Many local artists are featured here as well. And don`t forget to check out the many puzzles and games that are stowed away in the Indonesian chest in the living room.

The fully equipped chef`s kitchen, has black granite counter tops, a large deep stainless steel sink and plenty of room for gourmet cooking. A small breakfast counter for two adjoins. All the appliances were new in 2021. A new water filtration system was installed in 2021, to ensure safe, clean and soft water throughout the cottage. There is also a large bottled water cooler/heater. For dining, there is an reclaimed wood table next to the kitchen that seats eight, as well as a large outdoor table on the deck which also seats eight. For outside cooking, there is a new six burner Napoleon barbecue.

The main level also has a full bathroom, a custom sink again in black granite, and a large walk in shower. Elenriel cottage has two large water heaters, to provide plenty of hot water on demand. Off the same hallway is a laundry area with full size washer and dryer.

The main level bedroom has a queen-sized bed, dresser and closet with unique night tables and side lamps. Centred above the bed, is another wonderful example of local art by Allen Smutylo, an artist who has lived in the area since the 1970s and is now collected world-wide. The bookcase contains books for young adults and children that have been gathered over the years.

Located down the hall beside the main staircase, is a another bookcase filled with interesting literature and novels also to be enjoyed. The built-in desk is perfect for those who need to catch up on emails or work while they are here - or for quiet drawing or writing. This is where the router for the wifi is located.

Upstairs, you will find a lovely loft area that can be used for day lounging, reading or watching TV. The TV is new and WiFi enabled so you can access your favourite streaming accounts such as Netflix and Disney. This area can also be converted into a large double bed with drawers underneath.

The children`s room, with two twin beds is situated adjacent to the loft. Children`s art from Indonesia adorns the walls and children`s books and toys are in the closet.

Down the open hallway, is the primary suite - pure luxury, with a hand-carved Indonesian king-sized four poster bed, soaring loft ceilings and an open view to the fireplace below. Large windows frame a beautiful view of the sky and shoreline and sliding glass doors open out to the `Gin and Tonic` deck for great suntanning in the afternoon, followed by a lovely sunset view. This extensive room was inspired by a Swiss mountain lodge, with a substantial shower, deep soaking tub and a custom wood and black granite sink. Black slate floors in the bathroom area finish the design look. The washroom is tucked away in a private room behind the shower.

Elenriel cottage has been finished with an 800 square foot wrap-around cedar deck outside that is protected by plexiglass railings. The wide side deck accomodates the aforementioned outdoor table, and the deck facing the water has a generous seating area with sizable Muskoka chairs covered with comfortable cushions. The lower deck has two more chairs beside the six person hot tub that overlooks water, trees and the shoreline as part of its view.

Going down the stairs to the left of the hot tub, you will find a path that joins a wooden walkway through the trees to the dock area. The dock is 250 square feet and offers an incredible experience close to the water. Water birds, otters, beavers, even mink and the occasional fox have been seen to early risers who sit quietly and watch carefully. This is a wonderful area to be enjoyed for sunsets and stargazing as well. Please be cautious, as water levels have varied greatly over the past few years and the dock is no longer over the water. Children must stay well back from the edge and cannot run on the dock. There is a ramp there to provide safe access down to the rock slab beach.

The kayak launching area is left of the dock at the end of the path through the trees. The best swimming is located even further left from the kayaks and can be spotted by looking for a large smooth rock under the water. Water depths can range from 7 - 10 feet deep here. There is also great swimming off Bonnet Island - a 20 minute paddle across Hay Bay from the cottage. This is a great location for picnics and diving off the rocks into deeper areas. Further out from Bonnet Island, is one of the area`s famous shipwrecks. Our Concierge will be glad to help direct you to Bonnet Island and the shipwreck should you wish to make the venture.

This is the first time Elenriel cottage will be available to rent since its renovation. All efforts have been made to make certain that all who come here will enjoy a truly exceptional experience!

Guests will have access to the entire home and property

We are available via Airbnb message, phone or in person, whichever you prefer!

The Neighborhood:
We are located right in Tobermory. The cottage is less than a five minute walk to the shops, and restaurants in Little Tub Harbour.

Tobermory is a harbour village on the Bruce Peninsula in the province of Ontario. Just southeast, Bruce Peninsula National Park is known for the Bruce Trail footpath on the craggy Niagara Escarpment, and the Grotto, a wave-carved cave in Georgian Bay. The village lies next to Fathom Five National Marine Park, which is home to the Flowerpot Island sea stacks, 19th-century lighthouses and multiple shipwreck dive sites.

Getting Around:
We are less than a five minute walk to the heart of Tobermory and approximately a 10 minute car ride to the Grotto. We have parking available on site. Paid parking only in town (you should not need this as everything is walkable).

We are in a rural area and our house is on a septic system with a well. Instructions are to be followed on 'water use', on drains/toilets etc. Your host will show you around upon your arrival.

During your stay
Love us or leave us. Whatever you prefer.
We are happy to help out in any way but we also respect your privacy. Your wish is our command :)

Other things to note
As above, we are on a septic system and well water. These are 'delicate' eco systems, not at all like city sewers and water systems. Details must be adhered to, to avoid costly septic clogs, water shortages etc. that guests would be responsible for. Your host will explain procedures upon arrival, and a booklet is provided with our house rules and general info.
Oh.. and we have a cat, a boy, new to the family. He really needed a home this winter and he found us...
