- "I was super happy with the whole experience at this cabin. Clean, new, and close to everything we wanted to do: hike, visit waterfalls and Lake Superior, go to the Ice Festival, and Eben Ice Caves. These being seperate units, they were super quiet. We didn't hear our neighbors at all. The windows let in the natural beauty right outside the door, and has ample windows for natural light. I read someone comment they thought the mattress was thin, i didn't find that to be true. They may have updated them, but the master bed had a thick memory foam mattress. Had a great time, and definitely will stay again. "

- "We had a wonderful weekend stay (3 adults and 2 dogs). The cabin was as described--clean, cozy, secluded. Our dogs enjoyed the large yard. We enjoyed the cute cabin decor. The beds were comfortable and the hot tub was great (especially after running the Grand Island marathon). One (minor) suggestion would be to have some brighter overhead lights. We would definitely stay here again." - "Loved the property" - "This is the cleanest VRBO I have ever stayed in. It is stocked with everything and is super cute. The hot tub is spacious and taken care of. My only suggestion is to print out directions before you go that take you in from Munising. Huron Horizons - Magical Sunsets & Four Seasons of Recreational Opportunities!
Cabin
Big Bay, Michigan, USA

Magnificent sunsets over Lake Superior's Big Bay.

Our winter guests (cross-country skiers, snowshoers, hikers and those looking to curl up in a cozy cabin) will appreciate our plowed circle drive. We have a no-snowmobile policy at our cabin. We have nothing against snowmobilers, but we think our year-round neighbors might appreciate this.

For the protection of our cleaning personnel and guests during the 2025 rental season, we've built in a one-day cushion between check-ins.

Beautiful, two-bedroom cabin on Lighthouse Road in Big Bay, MI. As you walk in the front door you are greeted with spectacular views of Lake Superior through the living room bow window. Other custom windows bring in light and nature everywhere you turn. A custom-built circular staircase leads you up to the master bedroom with a king-size bed. You'll get spectacular views of Lake Superior from the Master Bedroom which includes a private bath and its own private deck. The downstairs bedroom has a full/full bunk bed. The upstairs loft provides additional views of Lake Superior, a cozy reading area, and with a queen sleeper sofa can double as a third bedroom. The cabin is well suited for four adults and two children.

The cabin has a well-equipped modern kitchen with a gas stove, a dining room table with seating for six, and two full baths. The downstairs bath has a tub/shower with tile surround and the Master Bedroom bath has a shower with tile surround. The huge wrap-around deck includes a screened-in gazebo to keep you away from the bugs, a gas grill, and a food prep area. The cabin also has a newly installed two-zone air conditioning system, with an outdoor compressor, to keep you comfortable during hot/humid weather.

“The Huron Mountains encompass the most wild and rugged territory in Michigan. It is a region of low, yet surprisingly rugged mountains, swamps, lakes, and high plateaus.” (Huron Mountains Summit Post) The Huron Mountain Range runs from the Marquette area north and west through Big Bay and beyond, and along with the sandstone cliffs of Salmon Trout Point provides a distant backdrop for sunsets over the bay. The large lot, 225’ of Lake Superior shoreline, gives you a wide-angle view of the bay to the west. Lake Superior has been telling her serene and rugged story for thousands of years, and each daily chapter (weather permitting) ends with a sunset over Salmon Trout Point. Every sunset you celebrate from Huron Horizons is one that has never been seen before and will never be seen again. Yes, they are that special.

Make sure you set aside some time to explore Marquette during your stay. Marquette "Queen City of the North" is about a 30-minute, beautiful drive from Big Bay, and is perhaps the most picturesque city in Michigan. We're a little biased but we believe that to be true. Marquette has many wonderful shops and restaurants (our favorite being The Vierling which overlooks the Ore Dock and Marquette's beautiful Lower Harbor). While in Marquette we would also highly recommend visiting Presque Isle and allowing enough time to hike and explore this wonderful peninsula. The Marquette area provides tons of outdoor opportunities including year-round world-class mountain bike and cross-country ski trails.

Here are some nearby attractions. Google for directions and more information. A PDF with additional information about the cabin, including links to these area attractions, will be sent after you've confirmed your reservation:

- "We thoroughly loved everything about this beautiful place located right on Lake Superior and highly recommend it." - "We can't say enough about this rental. This is our second time staying and it was even better than the last. The house was incredibly clean when we got there and has all the amenities you would ever need. The property managers are friendly and available if needed. Our favorite part of the house is the view on the bay. Being able to wake up to the view, end our evenings with the beautiful sunsets, and go to bed with the waves crashing is enough to keep calling us back. My youngest son and I were able to watch an eagle hunt for fish and bring it back to the nest while we were paddle boarding one morning. We just can't say enough about this beautiful property. We understand why it is not, but if this was a dog friendly rental we may be forced to spend our whole summer UP there."

- "Clean, cuter in person, large yard space for kids and dogs, great fire pit and seating outside, about 20-ish minutes from town, sits on dirt road that you get to on dirt road (which didn't bother us but wasn't aware of beforehand). Well stocked and great communication." - "The stay was amazing. I took one of the best naps of my life on the couch. The beds were nice, everything was clean and worked very well. The owners got back to me in a timely manner even at night which is great. I would 100% stay here again if i am given the chance."

If you are looking for some peace and quiet, simplicity and nature you will find our Cabin on Baldy Lake the perfect spot for your vacation this year! Get away from all the craziness. Bring your binocs and watch Bald Eagles, Trumpeter Swans, ducks, geese, turtles making their nests in our sand yard in the spring, and lots of other animals you might get a look at! Moose tracks have been spotted in the area too!

Our cozy little cabin on 10 acres, provides rustic simplicity , fishing, canoeing and the tranquil charm of life in the north woods of the Hiawatha National Forest. Our cabin is ON the water, isolated away from the hustle and bustle of the highway (but only 2 miles away). There are only a few cabins on this lake and we have the most private spot! If you like camping and being on your own lake, but don't like sleeping on the ground, our cabin on Baldy Lake will give you the comfort of beds and convenience of gas lights without sacrificing some of the camping feel. Although this is rustic, the cabin is beautifully done in tongue and groove aspen and decorated with wildlife decor. We are not without the very basic amenities including a composting toilet and battery operated shower. This is a regular shower stall and you only need to heat water from the unique pitcher pump on the stove, mix it with cold water to your desired temperature and then it is drawn up via a battery operated pump into the shower stall. The kitchen is fully stocked including gas range and gas refrigerator. No electricity, no carpeting, so bring your slippers!

The screened in porch offers outdoor furniture for relaxing and gazing at the lake, reading, visiting and watching the wildlife while keeping the mosquitoes out! :) You might prefer to take a walk on the old two tracks that meet up with hiking trails or take your 4 wheeler for a ride. Jump in the fishing boat or kayaks, and try for the elusive black crappie, bluegill, large mouth bass, small mouth bass, perch, northern pike, sunfish or rock bass. We have 4 kayaks you are welcome to use too. Lots of life jackets.

Large 8'x32' dock for fishing from, sitting and reading or playing fetch with your dog and watching them jump into the water to retrieve.

If you’re ready for more, you’re only 12 miles from Pictured Rocks and all our beautiful Munising area has to offer. Miles of hiking trails; many, many waterfalls; Pictured Rocks Boat Cruises, hand dipped ice cream, don't worry if you don't catch any fish, just go to Munising to our local fisheries and buy some fresh Lake Trout or White Fish. Even us locals sneak in there once in awhile! :)

Area Attractions:

Located in the Hiawatha National Forest, you can fish, kayak, read, nap, listen to wildlife, watch wildlife, grill your dinner, listen and dance to the radio, play a board game, on site. The area around the dock, is soft and mushy and shallow so not ideal for swimming, however, there are a few sandy spot around the lake where you can swim.

Nearby you can go hiking and biking (trails from door), golfing, horseback riding, antiquing, visit our sugar sand beaches and swim in Lake Superior's pristine waters, go to Music in the park, Farmers Market, Pictured Rocks cruises, Grand Island Ferry and Tours, water ski and jet ski.

We are approximately 2 hours west of Mackinac Bridge and 55 minutes east of Marquette.

We are not responsible if you don't read the listing for details prior to booking. The cancellation policy is in effect once your booking is confirmed.

Guest Reviews:

- "Really enjoyed our time at the cabin. Very peaceful and had a great time fishing. Close to all our excursions and still felt secluded. Our 2 yo son loved picking the wild blueberries and fishing from the dock." - "Really a terrific place. Just a fantastic location, quite secluded. Cabin was immaculate with all the amenities, especially for something described as rustic. Great area for bonfires, nice dock and fishing boat. Things I was concerned about before the trip were non-issues. The composting toilet was actually great, shower was super easy to use (never knew I could shower thoroughly with only 3 gallons of water!). The hand pump in the kitchen for water was a little tedious but worked flawlessly. We had plenty of "juice" in the battery powered Wifi for hopping on the internet for texts/emails. There were a few minor things that I would point out as suggestions, while still rating this property 5*. Maybe one more outdoor trash can available. Recommend purchasing either more firewood from the owner, or buying your own somewhere nearby. The $63 in wood we bought that we thought would last the week only lasted 2 nights. And if fishing is your main thing, not the best lake for it. You'll catch plenty of rock bass and crappie, but zero pike, perch or "eating fish" to be found. Still fun to catch them but we bought fresh Lake Superior fish in Munising! Again, all in all a really great place and we highly recommend it."

- "Iron Skillet was perfect for our family of three and super dog friendly! Very clean, comfortable, and charming cabin with great dock and fire pit. Wonderful location on Corner Lake with access to several other lakes, fishing (for Northern Pike), and swimming. Ideal for lakeside campfires with s'mores, stargazing, storm watching, hunting for the Northern Lights, and card games on the lovely sunporch. Easy access to pontoon rental and great central location for very memorable day trips: glass-bottom boat tour for shipwrecks in Munising Bay; hiking to waterfalls in the Hiawatha National Forest; visit to Kitch-Iti-Kipi natural spring; and our personal highlights -- Pictured Rocks boat cruise; hike to Chapel Rock; and Lake Superior swimming at Sand Point! Guest Reviews:

- "This cabin is very nice, smells like fresh cut cedar, and was perfect for the 4 of us to stay while hiking Pictured Rocks, exploring Lake Superior, and hanging out in Munising. It is very clean and a nice secluded location while also having easy access to town and trails (anywhere in 10-25 min). It is VERY open concept w one bedroom being an open loft and the other bedroom on the main floor being fully open to the kitchen. Our only suggestion would be putting a sliding barn door to add a little privacy between kitchen and bedroom. We made the open concept work but it could be awkward for others. Thanks so much for the great stay! We LOVED the area!!"

This home is comfortable, clean and cozy. Enjoy watching the wildlife through the many windows. Lake Superior is less than a mile away. You could even walk to the public beach! Or launch your kayak or boat in Lake Independence..also less than a mile away. Prefer hiking? ATV trails? Mountain biking? Birding? We have space for all of that on the many nearby trails. Guest Reviews:

- "I’m originally from the Marquette area and like to come back once a year to see friends and spend time with my grandkids. The home was perfect for us. Its located in the woods on a paved rd with no traffic… deer, rabbits and sand hill cranes frequently came into the yard. It’s an uncluttered open floor plan with lots of space…counter space for cooking with the kids, nice table space for games and eating, in addition to a place to keep our “in-progress” puzzle! I have mobility issues and especially loved the lack of steps and the walk-in shower with grab bars. In addition to the gas stove, we used the outside gas grill as well as the fire pit for meals. The fridge and freezer were large in capacity and everything was clean and in working order. The area had lots to do… the kids spent time at the beach and fished off the dock in the county park. We enjoyed the view of Lake Superior from Thomas Rock and the natural beauty of Algin Falls. Very little to no tourist present at anything we did in Big Bay. On two days we traveled the 30 minutes into Marquette to see Presque Isle, Black Rocks, Marquette Mountain, Sugar Loaf Mountain and Dead River falls. Great home, great location = wonderful memories!"

Cozy and quiet northern cabin with fabulous lake views and screen porch.
Cabin
Republic, Michigan, USA

Welcome to the Puffin Ln Cottage, we're so excited to share it with you! Located 2.5 miles off M95 on Island Lake in Republic, this cute cottage has plenty of amenities for your Up North getaway. The cottage has a large living room for all your friends and family to gather. There is an updated and fully stocked kitchen, walk-in pantry, breakfast bar and large dinette. Escape the bugs and the rain on the screened porch with beautiful lake views. Bedroom 1 is on the main level with a king sized bed. Bedroom 2 is on the second level and has 2 full beds and 4 twin beds (bunk beds). Outside is a large deck with seating, a quaint firepit area, and a private dock. The lake has a rocky entry and is immediately 2-3ft deep then goes to 5 feet pretty quickly. The max depth on this side of the lake is 11', but does have a deeper hole on the other side of the island that's around 30'. This cottage is located behind the island and cannot be seen from the main road, which adds to the private nature of this cottage. Island Lake is around 50 acres and plenty of scenery to enjoy while kayaking. **Please note that the last 3/4 of a mile is a two track road that is rutty and rocky. An SUV or larger vehicle is best on this road. The bright side of that is no one is going to be zipping up and down the road, so it's very quiet back by us! At this cottage you're about 15 minutes to South Republic, 20 to North Republic, 50 minutes from Marquette and Lake Superior. Nearest full grocery store is in Ishpeming, about 35-40 minutes away, although basic items can be bought in both South and North Republic, including gasoline. My favorite things to do: Have all you can eat spaghetti dinner at the Summer Place in North Republic, then jump into the Pine Grove next door for an Old Fashioned. Take a day trip (or half day) to Marquette and spend some time relaxing and rock picking at Lake Superior. Be sure to eat at one of their fabulous restaurants and shop their charming downtown. Take a day trip to see waterfalls. Some of our favorites are Bond Falls, Dead River Falls, and Canyon Falls. All of which are about 1-1.5 hours away, so leave in the morning and be back by lunch! At the cottage, play games on a rainy day in the screen porch. Enjoy a s'mores by the fire. Spend the day swimming, kayaking, and watching eagles.

Nordic Vibe on Lake Independence
Cabin
Lake Independence

Escape to our serene Lake Independence cabin for a tranquil getaway. This cozy retreat offers one BR with a king bed and a loft with two additional queen beds, perfect for family and friends. Warm up by the enchanting wood stove, cook in the fully equipped kitchen, and unwind on the expansive deck with stunning lake views. Enjoy everything Lake Independence has to offer- including swimming, boating, fishing, and eagle viewing. Relaxation and adventure await!

The space
Big Bay is a small town with rich history and a vibrant community. The area is surrounded by water (Lake Independence & Lake Superior) creating masterful views with energetic wildlife in a natural environment. There is numerous hiking, biking, swimming, snowshoeing, snowmobile trails to explore no matter the season.

Our cabin is located on the shores of Lake Independence which brings ecological changes and weather shifts throughout the year which might be experienced by guest. Below is a outline;

1.) April-May= Spring Thaw, yearly snow fall average in the area is more that 200 plus inches. It is a beautiful time with the birds singing and the trees budding but the ground is wet a muddy in certain locations. Great fishing starting May 15th.

2.) June= Every year around this time Mayflies hatch and can be seen around the lake and near the cabin. These flies provide an essential function to the ecosystem keeping the natural habitat thriving and healthy.

3.) July-August= Beautiful time of the year. Warm temperatures, mild swimming temperatures, great fishing, and a few flies on a warm day when the wind is from the south. The Big Bay area is thriving with outdoor enthusiast enjoying the beautiful landscape and environment.

4.) September-October= Fall season change is on the horizon. Around the cabin there is a lot of Oak trees. The oak trees start to drop acorns and leaves at this time. We leave an electric leave blower for guest at the cabin to easily blow off the deck for guest staying multiple days.

5.) October-November= Winter is getting close and upon us. It is not abnormal to have snow fall in this month range. Typically, the snow will be wet and heavy this time of the year making it hard for driving in and out of the driveway. It is recommended to have a four wheel or all-wheel drive car while visiting the area at this time.

The Big Bay area is so special! It is a great place to connect with nature and reset. Hope everyone has a rejuvenating and blissful stay!

Other things to note
Access to the Lake is a gradual decent with a 3’ high bluff at beach/water edge. This access is not ADA.

Hiawatha Hideout - Clean & Cozy Off Grid Log Cabin
Cabin
Au Train Township

Escape to our secluded off-grid log cabin with modern comforts. The Hideout is nestled on 73+ acres of a private forest preserve and wildlife sanctuary adjoining the vast Hiawatha National Forest.

Explore private trails, take a hot shower and fall into a cozy comfortable bed. Centrally located for easy access to Pictured Rocks, Eben Ice Caves, Lake Superior, and many other local attractions. Very remote...even by UP standards. All well-behaved dogs are welcome!

The space
We fell in love with this property the first time we visited it. It's remote, private, serene and the views are breathtaking. The property has maple covered hills, hemlock forests, swamp, marsh and islands. The Northern Boreal forest is pristine and untouched by the industrialized world. This is truly a place you can escape.

The log cabin was built with spruce and cedar logs sourced directly from the property. The log cabin is cozy and while off grid, offers hot water, propane gas lights and gorgeous views of nature. You won't want to leave.

It features an open living room, dining room, full kitchen, modern bath and two bedrooms each with a comfortable queen bed with fresh sheets and cozy heritage brand wool blankets.

The kitchen has a propane four-burner cook stove with an oven, propane refrigerator, propane heated water, and all the supplies you need to make any meal.

The full bath features a pedestal sink, a full bathtub with a shower, and an indoor potty.

The living room is set up for casual comfort to relax in after your adventures. During winter drink hot cocoa and warm up by the wood stove nestled in a massive stone hearth. During the warm months open the windows and relax while bird watching or reading one of the many specially curated books.

Electricity is only needed for the water pump and is effortlessly accessed from inside the cabin by the simple push of a button to start the fuel-efficient and quiet generator. In order to minimize our carbon footprint, generator use is limited to 5 hours per day.

The outdoor fire pit is a short stroll from the cabin for making s'mores under the stars. A couple of local boys run a camp wood stand that's located right at the property so you'll have access to all the camp wood you want.

We spray down all surfaces in the cabin with a disinfectant solution and take the necessary precautions to ensure your safety.

We love dogs and know how hard it is to find a place that allows them to come on vacation with you! Potty-trained, well-behaved dogs of any size are welcome! Dogs cannot be left in the cabin unattended and are not allowed on the furniture. If you would like to leave your pet in the cabin while you're out exploring, you may do so if they are in a crate.

Guest access
The 73+ acre property is a forest preserve and wildlife sanctuary, explore any part of it. You'll have full access to the main floor of the cabin which includes the living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms. The covered front porch is the perfect place to sit and watch wildlife and listen to the wind blowing through the trees. Explore the private trails which are perfect for snowshoeing, cross country skiing, or hiking.

WINTER ACCESS INFORMATION...
The Hideout is located down a privately maintained road. It is accessible by vehicles equipped for winter driving.

Other things to note
VERY IMPORTANT TO READ BEFORE YOU BOOK:

We will leave you very clear directions on operating the cabin. If you feel like you will need additional help, we can have someone meet you there. We will coordinate with you a few days ahead of your stay. Checkout time is 11 am.

The cabin is located 2 miles off a paved road. Our road is maintained and plowed by local residents. During the winter months, it will be snow-packed, icy, slick, or unplowed at times. During warm months the dirt and sand road could be rocky, soupy, hard-packed or all of these at the same time. There may be small water crossings and there could be loose sand or mud. All types of cars can make it to the cabin but before booking please take into consideration whether you are concerned about the abilities of your car or your driving abilities on varying types of terrain. If you have any concerns we are available to provide up-to-date road conditions prior to your trip.

The cabin is off-grid and the generator uses gasoline to make electricity for the water pump. There will be enough fuel to provide you with a reasonable amount of electricity to use during your stay (about 5 hours per day). The generator is only needed to power the water pump. The lights, refrigerator, stove, and water heater are all powered by propane. Bring along lanterns, headlights, or flashlights to help you navigate at night. Lighters are also a good item to have in your pocket for lighting the lights. If you need to have any type of device that runs off electricity through the night or for long periods of time you’ll need to bring a battery-powered solution or reach out to discuss your situation before booking.

The water comes from a drilled well and goes through a water softener system. The system has a pressure tank that is filled so when the generator is not on you will still have water to wash hands, do a few dishes, and flush the potty a couple of times. You'll want to turn the generator on before jumping in the shower.

We do not have wifi. You’ll be able to truly unplug here. Cell service is generally not available in the area. You will be able to call any number that is in the 906 area code from the landline and you will be able to receive calls from anywhere.

All well-behaved dogs are welcome! Please help us stay dog friendly by cleaning up after your pet around the cabin.

Dogs may be off-leash if you are able to maintain control over your dog. This is a remote wilderness area with wild animals and the safety of your dog and our wildlife friends is important.

Firefly Cabin/ Snowmobile Trails
Cabin
Au Train Township

Kick back and relax in this calm, stylish space. Close to Snowmobile Trail #8

Log Cabin with a View
Cabin
Powell

Enjoy a peaceful stay in a cedar log cabin nestled on thirty wooded acres overlooking Lake Superior. Located approximately 20 miles north from Marquette, the cabin is a short drive to Lake Independence and Lake Superior.

In the winter, take advantage of the close proximity to snowmobile and cross-country ski trails. In the summer, enjoy hiking and access to some of the best beaches in the UP.

Spend quiet nights gazing at the starry sky, and wake up early to catch the superior sunrise.

The space
The open bedroom loft has a queen-size bed overlooking the living room, and is accessed by a spiral staircase. There is also a Pack 'n Play stored in the closet. The living room has a queen-size pull-out couch. There are two small, additional lofts with full-size inflatable mattresses that can be accessed with removable ladders. These two small lofts would be best for older kids (8+) or the adventurous adult.

The kitchen is stocked with cookware, utensils, and dishes. The coffee machine accommodates both ground coffee and K-cups, and there is a compact coffee grinder for whole beans.

Outdoor amenities include a fire pit, playground, wood-fired sauna and an expansive deck with a charcoal grill and outdoor seating in the summertime to take in the panoramic view of the lake. We provide seasoned wood to use in the sauna and fire pit.

Our wireless internet works pretty good 90% of the time. If you need a consistently reliable internet connection for work during your stay we would recommend booking elsewhere.

Other things to note
Although the cabin offers spectacular views of Lake Superior, there is no lake access from the cabin. The closest beaches are to the north past Big Bay, or to the south at Little Presque Isle. Both are about a 10-15 minute drive from the cabin.

Bugs can be a character-building presence in the Upper Peninsula, especially in the early summer. Houseflies love log cabins, and can be a harmless nuisance as the seasons change from summer to fall and winter to spring.

The cabin is located off a county road, part of which (approximately 3/4 of a mile) is unpaved but well-maintained.

We welcome one well-behaved, house-trained pet, and expect that pet waste is picked up responsibly. The cabin is unfenced and surrounded by miles of woods. If your dog is prone to wandering or chasing wildlife, we would suggest leashing them when outside.

Quiet cabin with screened porch.
Cabin
Republic Township

This cute cottage has plenty of amenities for your Up North getaway. Escape the bugs and the rain on the screened porch with beautiful lake views. The cottage has a large living room for all your friends and family to gather. Outside is a large deck with seating, a quaint firepit area, and a private dock. **Please note, you will need a truck or SUV to access this cottage. The road is rough for about 3/4 of a mile.**

The space
Welcome to the Puffin Ln Cottage, we're so excited to share it with you! Located 2.5 miles off M95 on Island Lake in Republic, this cute cottage has plenty of amenities for your Up North getaway. The cottage has a large living room for all your friends and family to gather. There is a updated and fully stocked kitchen, walk-in pantry, breakfast bar and large dinette.

Guest access
You will have the entire cottage and it's yard all to yourself. There is a private deck and dock for your use as well.

Other things to note
Individual responsible for the rental of Puffin Lane Cottage must be 25 years old or older to rent.

After booking, you'll receive notification to complete a google form. This google form will be used to complete a property specific rental agreement between the guest and the host. You will then be asked to digitally sign the rental agreement. These steps are required to confirm you reservation.

It is important to note that the last 3/4 mile is a rough, ruddy, rocky two-track road. An SUV or larger will be needed to access the property.
