- "Quick stay before we started back country hiking. Comfy beds. Free play arcades in lounge. Great place to stay." - "It was our first time in the UP and the lodge was perfect. My wife and I loved, and spent most of every evening in the lounge area playing the pinball and dart games. If we ever make it up that way again, we will definitely be staying at the lodge. Even the couple that we came to visit didn’t know it was here and are getting there family members to stay there when they visit. "

Excellent experience." - "This was our second year stay at Rainbow Lodge. Once again, we would gladly give this place a 5+ star rating. Everything you could possibly need is already included in this home away from home. The owners, Matt and Brandi are quick to respond with any questions or concerns you may have and so very helpful. Waking up to the sounds of Lake Superior, directly across the street is divine. And not only watching hummingbirds just outside the kitchen window but hearing their motors roar while sitting outside on the porch has its own fun. And out back, what a perfect way to relax after a day of hiking and exploring the area at the firepit with plenty of wood to keep that fire going until the wee hours of the morning. Also perfect was having a washer & dryer at our disposal which meant packing less and coming home with clean clothes. What a concept! No matter if you're a hiker, biker, explorer or just looking for some much needed R&R... this IS your place."

- "Quiet neighborhood close to hiking and lake superior." - "Location was perfect for some hiking and waterfall viewing. Cabin was clean and cozy. We enjoyed our stay." - "The place was clean and cozy! Very nice locations would love to stay again!" - "My children upon entering mentioned that it was an incredible layout. Despite the small size the place can accommodate many people. Previous guest took the dishwasher pods and coffee. I failed to contact Jerry in time for him to fix that but that is my only complaint. There was a Kwik Trip 3 miles away so I was quickly able to grab some."

Welcome to your UP adventure headquarters: *Floodwood River Oar’asis*! Our tranquil little artfully curated getaway is the perfect home base for anyone visiting the UP! Our vibes are a blend of outdoorsy inspired northwoods nostalgia balanced with some comforts you’d find at home (picture cozy linens, comfy beds, a rainfall style shower head, the crackle of a campfire under the stars, and a warm cup of coffee/tea). Hosting is so much more to us than just renting out our cabin. We strive to help create a memorable experience for our guests! A bit about our location: perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, we are situated along the banks of the Floodwood River, and we are a few miles from the public beach for Lake Superior access. During peak snow season, bring your sleds and ride (safely) along the shoulder of the highway to the trailhead (3mi)! If conditions are just right, you may even fall asleep to the sound of the waves of the big lake, or stay up late and catch a glimpse of the breathtaking dance of the northern lights! The cabin sits on serene 32 acres of private wooded property so you are welcome to explore, snowshoe (provided for guests in winter) and relax to your hearts content. We are located just a few miles from town, where you’ll find a selection of shops, groceries, gas as well as options for dining out (we reccommend The Squeeze!). We are also approx 20 miles away from Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park including Lake of the Clouds, all levels of hiking trails, waterfalls, beaches, cc and downhill skiing and more! There are plenty of nearby snowmobile, atv and hiking trails/UP adventure hotspots (Bond Falls, Agate Falls, etc. or take the ferry to Isle Royale) within an hour or so radius of the cabin; the possibilities are endless no matter what season you visit! Interior cabin amenities include: the main floor is wheelchair accessible, has a covered porch with spacious entryway, full bath with tile shower, petite yet well equipped kitchen and wet bar as well as a dining and living area. There are two queen beds, one on the main floor and one up in the loft, sleeping a total of 4 people. Upstairs, opposite the sleeping area, you’ll find a desk for creatives and a cozy reading nook. We have internet service for you to work remotely, but also encourage you to disconnect and take time to enjoy a hobby of yours or explore the outdoors! Speaking of outdoor space: Please be respectful our occasional animal visitors, including deer, hummingbirds, river beavers, and more! We have a firepit with chairs as well as a trail down to the river. There is a very large and level gravel area with plenty of room for parking and unloading trailers for those of you who are visiting us to snowmobile or ATV/side by side on the local trails! If youre looking to rent, Hamilton’s North Coast rents sleds and atvs. We cannot wait for you to join us @floodwoodriveroarasis on your next trip to Upper Michigan!
**We fully respect your privacy during your stay, but we do stop by occasionally to water the outdoor plants, plow snow and take the garbage out for collection. Thank you for understanding!**
- "This property was amazing! We had everything we could possibly need in this sweet little cabin. Heidi was so nice to work with and even left yummy muffins for our arrival. Great location in between the Porkies and Ontonagon. Heidi went above and beyond to make this cabin comfortable. Night sky so beautiful! We hope to come back next year!" - "Heidi provides above and beyond. Have never had such great service from a host. Would definitely stay again."

Detroit Zen Center monks & students use this hermitage for retreats half the year, and rent to guests the other half. Our hermitage has a tri-level floor plan, and sits 100 yards from Lake Superior, with a 100 yard circular walking path down to 360' of her shoreline (pebbles & rocks). Set on 8 rolling acres of wooded land, 2 woodstoves we have a traditional Finnish wood-fired Sauna just behind the main cabin. The property sits 1/4 mile from the entrance to Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park.
Entering off the main road, down a 1/4 mile wooded drive, to park in front of the large tongue-and-groove hand-milled home, with a friendly front porch with a stone chimney, chairs & lots of wood! Enter into a light-filled, spacious, open concept main living area - living - dining room - kitchen. It includes a woodstove, wood floors, stone chimney, smart tv, surrounded by huge windows & a wall of sliding glass doors going out to a deck that looks down to the lake & the walking paths. The dining table seats 8. At the back of the main floor is a master bedroom with its own stone chimney & woodstove, as well as a large picture window overlooking the land. Just outside the master bedroom is a full, marble tiled bathroom.
Upstairs is a loft bedroom, with a private bedroom with its own large deck adjacent. The loft has a full bed with an antique desk & walk in closet. The adjacent fully enclosed bedroom has a king sized and a full sized bed, and a large deck.
Downstairs is a lower level walkout -- a standalone space with a sitting room, bedroom, and full bathroom, as well as a separate entrance door that leads to a deck, the walking trails & lake.
The heating system is very efficient & radiant (no furnace or forced air noise/dust), and we are very well insulated -- the 2 woodstoves add charm & coziness in winter. In summer, the lake keeps us cool, but we do have AC here as well.
Our road leads to the Lake of the Clouds, and is within minutes of endless hiking, cross country trails, waterfalls, & 2 miles from the Porcupine Mountain Downhill Ski Resort. Our hermitage is set 1/4 mile down a driveway, away from the main road, and is very quiet, and very private. Our land is filled with old-growth hemlock, oak, maple, cedar & pine. Deer & turkey & other wildlife are abundant. We enjoy exploring all the area has to offer, and it truly is like heaven on earth here.
We have high speed wifi, and use it for our phone service (cell service is spotty up here). We have a smart tv with Roku, and you can use netflix, hbo, fox sports, tcm, and much more. Our shoreline is lovely and rocky -- 1/4 west is an endless sandy beach as well. The historic mining town of Ontonagon is 12 miles east (15 minutes), where you can find an IGA grocery store, hospital, & full amenities. We are just outside Ontonagon in Silver City, where there is an Americinn Hotel 1 mile away, with a full bar & menu, or try Konteka -- a bowling alley & full restaurant 6 miles away in White Pine.
- "We wanted a place near Lake Superior, and boy did this place fit that desire. You can see the lake down through a short path. At the end of the path, you'll find a firepit, kayaks, and plenty of seating. The house was clean, and the kitchen was stocked well for cooking utensils. It was incredibly quiet at the house, mostly birds and the waves. The host was extremely communicative and wanted to ensure we had everything we needed. We even used the swinging grill over the firepit on the side of the house. It's perhaps a 15 minute drive from Lake of the Clouds (you could even bike up there if you wanted), and about 15 minutes from Ontonagon if you need a proper grocer. Caveats for guests would be to make sure you have bug spray, and maybe some warmer clothes for cool evenings to be outside. You can swim from the shore, but you may want water socks to walk on the rocks below the water line as they're a bit slippery until you can get to a good depth. There are sand beaches in either direction nearby. As for the accuracy of the listing, I may not have properly understood the layout of the BRs. Nothing wrong for our party, just wasn't what I'd envisioned after reading the description. I think everyone in our party would be happy to go back. Thanks again!"

Come to play, explore, or just relax. A lite remodel has kept its rustic charm, and freshened it up a bit.
Steps away from the Cabin are trails and hills of the 25 acre mature forest. The Campfire area is light by torches and decorative lighting. Black River is a mere 1 mile hike through the forest. The new paved bicycle path a mile away down the bluff.
- "Beautiful historic area and the place was very clean and had everything we needed. Easy check-in and Charlie was wonderful. Very helpful and kind. We enjoyed riding the Iron Belle trail on our bikes, explored Interstate Falls and Little Girls Point, and had fantastic food at Jagger’s Ore House restaurant at the bottom of the hill. Great stay!!" - "Cute, clean, and comfortable cabin. Host was very quick to answer any questions. Close to many outdoor activities. - "This property is fantastic for a large group, and has much more to offer than what is in the listing. We vacationed with our extended family, with 20 people. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out. We were worried about the bathroom situation, but there are more than listed. There are 2 full baths with showers, one half bath, and 2 commercial bathrooms with two stalls in each, for a total of 7 toilets. There are many more couches than can be seen in the photos. There are 3 large recliner sofas in the front of the living space plus 3 more couches and a large chair toward the back of the space. There are a few couches in the basement as well. The deck has a table and chairs and a large outside sectional. There are 4 large benches around the fire pit. All bedrooms are in the basement with the exception of the two beds in the loft. This property used to be used commercially as a bar and restaurant, so there is plenty of room for a large group to spread out. The kids had a blast playing in the basement while the adults enjoyed the bar area on the main level. The kitchen is well stocked, we cooked most of our meals there. The host was quick to respond to questions. The location was very private, but also within a couple miles of town and groceries. Lake Superior beaches are a 15-20 min drive away with many neat waterfalls and parks on the way. We really enjoyed this property!"

We are also located close to all the recreational activities that the beautiful Upper Peninsula has to offer including snowmobile and ATV/ORV trails, Black River Harbor, Copper Peak and the shores of Lake Superior. The Porcupine Mountains and Bond Falls are also nearby. The open kitchen, dining area & living room are on the main level as well as a bedroom & full bath. A nice size loft overlooks the living room offering a great spot for the kids. On the lower level are 2 good size bedrooms and a full bath. Great location - great property and the perfect starting point to your Northwoods vacation. Prefer no pets :).
- "Always a great stay. Everything we need for a great ski vacation." - "This was our second stay. It’s a great location - close to waterfalls, hikes, and Little Girl’s Point. The cabin is cozy and fits our needs perfectly. Thanks!" - "My 16-yr old son and I had a great time at Big Powderhorn and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Mary was very prompt to answer our text questions and went way above and beyond to make sure our stay was awesome. We walked to and from the ski lifts. We went late season so we couldn't ski back to the house due to the lack of snow in the parking lots and on the road. Still, no complaints. We highly recommend this place to make your vacation enjoyable."

After 9 years, every year... This is a home away from home to our kids, and we're treated like family." - "The place was very nice, clean. The ski hill was not open. They are closed Monday-Wednesday. But the sister ski hill is very close. Callie is an amazing host. Responds quickly and very accommodating. Would definitely stay again."
