- "The cabin is quaint and quiet. It does have a small view of the lake although we stayed in the winter so not able to review how the dock or any outside amenities are. Cabin temperature was ok for it's age and being in the north. We did not stay in the upstairs rooms but when we checked on them they were only a little bit cold, not bad. Had a drinking water tank as well as hot water for the shower. Only real issue was some lights being out but didn't bother us. The upstairs has an a/c unit we were told so this cabin should be excellent in the summer."

Would definitely recommend!" - "Nicely secluded and homey place to lay your heads at night. Kitchen had all we needed to start each day and the porch was a fun spot for Euchere in the evenings. EaglePine- A retreat setting with a unique, fully equipped cedar cabin on 6 acres nestled in the woods of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Offering the ultimate in privacy with 600ft of sandy Long Lk, private peninsula, southern exposure, sunrises & sunsets, boats, fire pits, horseshoes, & bikes. Located well off the main road, tucked between 10 acre parcels assures safety & quietude. A path to the water (350 ft) meanders over boardwalks and soft mulch through a wildlife corridor leading to an outdoor living space offering shelter from the sun. A few steps farther is the lakeshore which is ideal for adults and children-- the sand is hard-packed & water shallow. The cottage is not bare-bones stripped of its character. We bring the "outdoors in" with deer mounts, moose antlers, pelts, & local artwork. The screened porch is perfect to read in a wicker chair, play cards at the table or just listen to the hummingbirds. We include other creature comforts such as comfy beds, modern appliances, WIFI, satellite, on-demand hot water, and a wood stove for cool summer evenings.
Our family and friends love EaglePine for it's privacy, quietude, peaceful lake, wildlife, and of course... Sleeping Bear Dunes which is a half mile away. However, we know civilization is literally around the corner with Frankfort and Honor 15-20 minutes away!
- "As previous reviews have already stated, this place is outstanding! One of the best vacation rentals we’ve come by! Highly recommend!" - "Great experience. Lovely spot." - "Eagle Pine is spectacular! It was a wonderful place to take our three kids and stay while we explored Sleeping Bear and the surrounding areas. The toys Sue supplies were fantastic for all three of our different aged children. The kayaks were a blast for all of us even in the chill of fall. The property itself is magical being nestled in large trees and away from neighbors. The lake is gorgeous! We saw the bald eagle, a few black squirrels and a group of deer. Sue is a wonderful communicator and so knowledgeable about the local area. We would stay again in a heartbeat!"

NEIGHBORHOOD:
The property is in a quiet neighborhood of lakefront homes and resorts, with Big Platte Lake on one side of the road and Little Platte Lake on the other side of the road. Sleeping Bear Riverside Cabins is a group of 5 traditional Northern Michigan cabins (with modern amenities) that are available for rent. The cabins are located right on US-31, with US-31 to the north of the cabins and the Platte River to the south of the cabins. The Platte River provides for gorgeous natural beauty as well as fun in the water!
Cabin #1 is all in one building, it is the largest cabin, and it sleeps the most people. Cabins #2 and #3 are private, but are in the same building (basically forming a duplex.) Similarly Cabins #4 and #5 are also private, but are again in the same building (again forming a duplex). The cabins are quite close to the road and there is some road noise, particularly with Cabins #1, #2, and #3, so if you are sensitive to road noise, then it might be best to stay elsewhere. Cabins #4 and #5 are closer to the water and they have lovely views of the river, but they are slightly smaller. Cabin #5 is probably most shaded, private, and secluded of the cabins. In terms of parking, parking is somewhat limited. For Cabin #1, there is space for up to 2 vehicles. For all of the other cabins, there is only space for 1 vehicle.
All of the cabins are heated and available for rent year-round! They all each have a living room, a kitchen with a basic supply of cooking and dining utensils, and a full bathroom. All of the cabins also have Wi-Fi access and a television with live streaming via Roku, including Hulu, Netflix, PureFlix, and Disney+. Cabins #1 and #4 have their television in the bedroom, whereas the other three cabins have their television in the living room. Cabin #3 has a cute and cozy electric fireplace in the living room. None of the cabins have air conditioning, but portable fans are provided in the cabins as needed during the summer months. All of the cabins each have their own private charcoal grill. We do not provide charcoal though.
Note that all of the cabins are dog-friendly! We allow up to 2 dogs with each reservation. More than 2 dogs or any other kind of pet is strictly prohibited. IF BRINGING 1 OR 2 DOGS, PLEASE MAKE CERTAIN THAT THEY ARE INCLUDED ON THE RESERVATION SO THAT THE PET FEE IS PROPERLY APPLIED!
On the grounds of the resort, there are several items that are shared among the 5 cabins and are available for guest usage:
* Two riverside decks with outdoor furniture for relaxing next to the Platte and enjoying its beautiful sights and sounds.
* An outdoor bonfire ring.
* A propane gas grill.
* An outdoor picnic table
The river provides for fun in the water! The river current is actually quite strong at the resort, but the river is fairly shallow. It is allows for a refreshing dip or walk in the river. It's not quite deep enough for swimming. It is possible to go fishing, kayaking, or canoeing right from the property! The riverfront is also great for just relaxing by the river, listening to the river gurgle, and watching wildlife, including kayakers, ducks, fish, blue jays, various other birds, deer, and even occasionally a bear! (For the record, we have only ever seen bears on the opposite side of the river and we've never seen them on the resort's property.) We do advise parents to be very careful with children since, although the river is quite shallow, the current is again also quite strong.
The property owners, Richard and Mary (an older couple), live next door. Note that they are politically conservative Christians who do share their views and at times there may be some political or Christian signs or flyers at the resort, emanating from a conservative Christian viewpoint. There is also a large cross on the grounds in memory and honor of the owners' son, Rick Haan, who passed away in September of 2019. (If you are offended by other people sharing their views, this again might not be the best place for you and you may wish to look elsewhere. ;-)
Note that the property is marketed on Airbnb by Agape Vacation Rentals, which is based out of nearby Beulah, Michigan. Agape Vacation Rentals only handles the marketing of the property though. Guest reservations and the physical management and cleaning of the property are managed by the property owners.
We think that the resort provides for comfortable and affordable housing in a great scenic location, which is close to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Traverse City, Interlochen, Crystal Lake, Beulah, Crystal Mountain, Frankfort, and Lake Michigan! We invite you to book with us and hope that you do so! :-)
- "Communication was easy as they live right on the property. Check out was at 11:00am, but the day of our checkout one of the owners popped by and said if we needed extra time, not to worry as their cleaning lady had the day off. Just based on this offer alone, I feel they would be very accommodating should things arise. The buildings were nice! I felt the kitchen had a little bit of everything, the shower had nice pressure, water would get and stay very cold/hot fast when you needed it too, the t.v. was quality, the couch was comfortable to sleep on, and they provided chairs if you were to sit outside (although I stayed in winter so there was not a lot of staying outside). My only note for people who stay in the winter is that the fire pit outside is not super accessible when there is snow. But what would you expect when it is outside, in the snow, in upper Michigan... so that would be hard anyway. Not a big deal as there is a ton of things to do nearby to occupy your time and the cabins are warm enough! Overall, if I plan a trip near that area I would absolutely book here again!"

The owner was very friendly and kind and connected with us before our departure. The fully equipped kitchen was a fantastic touch. Hope to stay here again soon. " - "I can’t say enough about this lovely cabin on the Platte River! It was well appointed, perfectly located, comfortable and clean. The proximity to all the northwestern Michigan has is unparalleled! It is close to a market, and several great restaurants. - "Beautiful cabin. Very peaceful." - "We loved our stay at this charming, peaceful cabin. The view of lake was beautiful. The neighborhood was very quiet. The location was near many great area destinations. Our only regret was that we didn't spend more time just enjoying being at the cabin, because it was so fun and relaxing. We definitely recommend this cabin for a family vacation. " - "It was a great visit. A little disappointed by all of the mayflies making it impossible to be at the waterfront without netting on- not the hosts issues by any means! Recommend setting up a hammock at the waterside- we brought one but with at the mayflies and low hanging branches, it would not have worked out. Otherwise, awesome cabin, clean and comfy."

- "Great location! Had row boats & kayaks! Very quiet lake! Had everything you needed to cook! Close to other small towns! " - "The Green Laker is one of the best cabins here at the property with direct view of the lake and very short walk to the dock to catch sunrise/ sunset. The cabin is cute and has everything you need, a big refrigerator and enough pots and pans. No washer drier so take ample clothes if you are staying longer, there was a laundromat at Beulah, you could use it if you have no backup clothes. The water may have tannins, so be prepared for it, have your own drinking water just in case. On the overall, this is a fantastic cabin away from the Deadstream road and has no traffic noise which makes you hear all the birds. It is a bit cooler by the lake also which will be ideal for summer. My visit was during memorial day week, the weather was still a bit chilly and the heater in the cabin worked really great. I forgot a few things and the property has contacted me and said they would mail me the items, so the service is top notch, only a phone call away and it was always answered"

The location of the resort right on US-31 is also very convenient for travel to nearby Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Traverse City, Interlochen, Beulah, Crystal Lake, Crystal Mountain, Frankfort, and Lake Michigan. The location really provides a wonderful and very convenient base from which to explore northern Michigan! :-)

* An outdoor bonfire ring.
* A propane gas grill.
* An outdoor picnic table
- "Very comfortable cabin. Everything was as described in the description. Did not find the road noise bad. Great location for Platte River activities and visiting other area attractions. Would stay here again and recommend to others." - "We loved our time in Honor Michigan. Richard was helpful and friendly. Free coffee was a nice touch. Would stay at this place again."

* An outdoor bonfire ring.
* A propane gas grill.
* An outdoor picnic table
- "Perfect spot for my young son and me. The cabin is just right, and being on the river is beautiful." - "These cabins are a little old, but they are clean and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. I stayed in cabin 5 and other family members stayed in 3. When we weren’t out on the docks or playing corn hole during the day, we were getting together for s’mores and cards at night. There was a grocery store just a very short drive down the road. There was a tiki bar/kayak rental/ice cream shop a short walk in the other direction. A great spot for a getaway."

- "Clean, nice site on the Platte River." - "Very nice stay. Everything we needed. Will stay again." - "When I arrived I found a bunch of dead bugs on the kitchen floor and some trash in the wastebasket. I swept up the bugs and no more came back until 3 days later. The batteries in the heater remote and the bathroom nightlight were dead. The location on the beautiful Platte river made these inconveniences seem trivial."

- "I love watching the ducks on the river." - "We enjoyed the location and easy access to local sightseeing. The riverfront is very peaceful. The cabin had everything we needed to be comfortable during our stay. The sleeper couch was okay to sit on and watch a little TV, but it's pretty worn. The kitchen is equipped with basic necessities. Overall, a great weekend getaway spot." - "A sweet little get away cabin just right for two, with the bonus of a riverside deck that's the perfect place for your morning coffee. The location was perfect for day trips to Sleeping Bear Dunes, E-Beach, Glen Arbor and Traverse City."

The space
The house is set back from the tree-lined Taquaka Road. In this setting nestled amongst the trees, the house is very quiet, and private. The large porch is a meditative place to sit and enjoy the tranquil setting. The large flat grassy yard provides the perfect space for yard games and at the same time opens up the sky to allow sun to flood into the property. Part of the magic of this area, is that there are relatively very few mosquitos, so an evening by the fire pit is very relaxing.
We have a basketball hoop, corn hole boards, volleyball, soccer goals, bocce, and some other fun yard games available. Make sure to take advantage of the private beach access which offers a view of the Manitou islands, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and some of the most breathtaking sunsets you will ever experience.
