Catch the sunrise to start your day and the sunset late in the evening from multiple furnished decks overlooking Big Platte Lake - dazzling water views from the living room, dining room, and kitchen.

Our private waterfront is bathed by crystal clear water. It is an ideal water-playground for children because of an extensive shallow area (300 feet); perfect for frolicking, wading, Frisbee, and floating, with deeper water farther out for swimming, kayaking, jet-skiing, water-skiing, fishing, and canoeing. A Soft, mint-leaf lawn for volleyball or other barefoot adventures waits at the shoreline, and a flower-garden with a dizzying assortment of fragrant lilies separates the cottage from the guest house.

Our 500-foot driveway is lined with magnificent birch, maple and oak trees, lending a feeling of quiet seclusion to the property. The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore can be reached in less than five minutes by foot - we are just outside the edge of the park

Some of the most beautiful beaches on Lake Michigan are just a five minute drive (ten minute bike ride) from the house. Alternatively, you could board our canoe or kayaks on our private waterfront, wind your way down the Platte River, and emerge two glorious hours later in the splendor of Lake Michigan.

Both the cottage and guest house were custom built in the mid-1990’s. The design concept was to allow light reflecting off of the lake to fill the structures with natural light. Open floor plans, skylights and huge windows make artificial lighting completely unnecessary during daylight hours. On clear, moon-lit nights, the glitter from Platte Lake throws an ethereal blue light throughout the cottage. The cottage living room, dining area, and kitchen are one open area, making it possible for big families to spread out while still inhabiting the same space. The guest house interior is also one open space with a sleeping area, a sitting area, and a TV-nook.

Relax at our family cottage near the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The cottage is located on Little Platte Lake, ideal for fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing. Winter activities include ice fishing, snow showing, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing. We are located on a private bay, directly across from The Medenbrook Nature Preserve where you have unobstructed views of the tree line.

The cottage is located on a private road in a quiet community, but close enough to all that northwestern Michigan has to offer. Explore the beaches and hiking trails of the National Lakeshore, or take a trip up to Traverse City for shopping, restaurants, art, and music. The charming towns of Beulah, Empire, Frankfort, and Glen Arbor are within 10-20 minutes of the cottage.

If you enjoy fishing and boating, the Little Platte Lake boat launch is a few minutes out the drive on Saffron Road. You can also launch at nearby Platte Point to access Lake Michigan. Launch one of our two kayaks, directly from our 100 feet of private shore line.

With 2 beds and a queen sleeper sofa, there are a variety of sleeping options. If you like to cook, a gas range and charcoal barbecue are available for your use. You can also try your open fire cooking skills over a bonfire near the lake. The kitchen is well equipped, however we don’t have a microwave at this time.

If you want to unplug during your time away, we keep a variety of board games and books in the cupboards. The spacious yard is great for outdoor games.

Please note that we strive to use environmentally friendly cleaning products and encourage our guests to do the same in order to preserve our lakeside habitat.

This well-maintained cottage can serve as a great home-base for your vacation, or as your little "peace" of paradise for the week!
Enjoy swimming from the beach or soak in the sun on the dock. The water in front of the property is shallow and perfect for the kids, or those who want to "ease their way in". A picnic table is available just off the deck for outdoor meals, and there are lots of games and movies for evening or rainy weather fun. TV, DVD player, wifi, and bluetooth speaker available for electronic entertainment.
The rental/cleaning fee includes all linens (pillows, sheets, blankets, down comforters, and bath towels).

Located well off the main road, tucked between 10 acre parcels assures safety & quietude.
