At the bay:
Private southern facing sandy beach on West Grand traverse Bay with views of Power Island and distant views of Traverse City lights. Watch the sunrise over Old Mission Peninsula from the waters edge. Charcoal and lighter fluid are ready at the deck to BBQ on the grill. Firewood is stacked at the beach to enjoy a camp fire in the evening.
During the peak summer season, paddle along Cherry Cove on one of the kayaks or stand up paddle boards. Sit out on the beach deck or at the end of the dock or around the fire pit at night.

Main house:
Large family room centers around the natural gas fireplace with a smart TV and internet service (no cable). Linens are provided with washer and dryer. Main bedroom has a King bed and private sun room over looking a crystal clear stream. 2nd bedroom has 2 Queen beds. The kitchen / dinning area is equipped with all essentials.

This guest house is at the center of our 30 acre Gentlemen's ranch, one mile south of Suttons Bay and 1/2 mile from the Bay. The address for our location is 1624 South West Bayshore Drive (which is M-22), Suttons Bay While there is not a water view unless you are on top one of our hills, the setting is an idyllic location with panoramic valley and hill views. This house has a warm natural all wood interior with beautiful artwork, yet all the modern amenities such as wifi and satellite TV with multiple movie channels.
The grounds are professionally landscaped and maintained by the Landscape Architect owner.
There is a large open area that includes a wrap-around leather couch and a loft with two beds along with a separate bedroom with a queen-size bed with an exceptional quality mattress. It is important to note that the only access to the loft is a straight up and down ladder. Because of this if you have kids younger than five or adults older than 40 or so (depending how spry you feel) the loft is probably not for you.
There is plenty of room to park any toys (campers, boats, trailers) right on the property. The owners have a 26 foot motorboat and other water toys, so arrangements could be made for their use. If there is a need to stall your horses, or if you want to ride a horse or two, those arrangements can be made as well.
On the property is a large barn, a small barn (both for horses) along with indoor and outdoor riding arenas. Attached to the indoor riding arena is a viewing area with a pool table, bathroom and laundry.
At night, there is a firepit area to warm up on the cold Northern Michigan nights and we are far enough away from any city so that the panoramic star views are incredible.
We are only 1/2 mile away from the Suttons Bay to Traverse City trail and you could ride bikes/horses snowshoe/hike/cross-country ski in any direction from here and see wonderful water vistas and orchard/hill/valley views.
We are 30 minutes away from the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and the Homestead Resort that has skiing with hills that border on Lake Michigan.

White Fence of Suttons Bay is a truly unique vacation property. The property is a compilation of restored circa 1900 farm buildings just one block south of one of the most quaint villages in the Upper Midwest. The Village of Suttons Bay has deluxe shopping, art galleries and excellent restaurants abound. White Fence of Suttons Bay is within walking distance of it all and centrally located for touring all of scenic Leelanau County and its multitude of wineries, fine restaurants, charming villages and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park.

White Fence is a small and quiet property which has been meticulously renovated. The guest suite is artfully done with privacy, quiet and magnificent views of the bay kept in mind. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with seating areas throughout including private decks on the beach. Night star gazing is memorable. Although we love pets and children, the carriage house suites is not designed for either.

Directly across the street from White Fence is a gourmet grocery store which specializes in local produce and houses an extensive wine selection where the sommelier can describe to you the award-winning local wines. There is an outdoor kitchen area at White Fence with a charcoal grill should you decide to cook and hot plate for sautéing and boiling.

Also directly across the street, is the Leelanau Trail, an extensive biking, walking and running trail. It offers miles of scenic enjoyment. In the winter months, the Trail is groomed for cross country skiing.

The dock/sitting area for the cottage house is not great, but we were able to use the main beach that is generally reserved for renters of the main house. The onsite winery and Tai resturant was ideal when we did not want to travel. I drove across the road almost every morning to fish. Late morning it was either back on the boat for the afternoon, off sight seeing and off to wineries. 4 wineries within about a mile. Suttons Bay maybe 10 min, Fishtown was only 30 min Glenn Arbor was 40 min. Staff were great very friendly and helpful. It was a great 5 days away for me and the wife. We will be back. This fully furnished newly remodeled cottage with large windows for your unobstructed greater than 180 degree panoramic water views. For even better views we recently installed all glass railings on the deck. Other recent upgrades include new deck furniture and full house air conditioning. You are only 50 feet from the water (10 steps down). Every room has a view of the water. The kitchen is open to the living room which allows exceptional views as well.

The cottage is immaculate. Our renter customer feedback surveys in the last few years have rated 'cleanliness' as 'outstanding' by 100% of our renters, 'location' as outstanding by 90% of our renters. The home is furnished with family antiques and art for a warm homey feel. The kitchen is stocked with matching dishes/glassware so the chef will find the appropriate cookware to concoct his/her culinary creation. Set yourself a fine dining table with linens and cloth napkins Come relax on the porch (in summer) and watch the horse and ducks play, and listen to the soothing waterfall across the street. You can view them from two picture windows and sit by the fire with a hot drink in the Fall! Enjoy waving to the neighbors as they walk their dogs or jog by. The tiny sun porch in the back faces east so it's an early risers best place for that hot cup of coffee and the news. The back yard is a perfect place to relax and either get warm in the sun or cool down under the huge maple tree. Enjoy wonderful meals on the picnic table under the lights strung up in the trees. The smells of freshly cut grass or blossoming flowers will delight you.

Downtown Traverse City is 22 miles or (35 minute) drive. Location is close to many beaches, restaurants, wineries, microbreweries, and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. It is a great place for couples seeking a quiet romantic getaway or a single outdoor adventurer.

Getting Around:

There is parking for about two (2) cars in front of the cottage. BATA Village Loop connects Suttons Bay to TC and surrounding towns. Route 10 runs along Highway 22 to Northport via Suttons Bay with customer requested deviations to stops within 3/4 mile of normal route path. A stop at Putnam Avenue which is about 10 minute Walk to the Cozy, Rustic Cottage. Route Map and Schedule are available at BATA site or phone call.

Notable Items:

The cottage has only an outside shower and outside toilet room. They are both simple to use and have clear posted instructions. The WIFI has a password that will be in the HOUSE INSTRUCTIONS binder. There is a ladder to go up to the loft sleeping area. There is no TV. Guests can use WIFI to connect to their favorite on-line shows etc.

Provided for your comfort are white noise machines, room darkening blinds, all bedroom linens, bath and beach towels, a smart TV, Sonos speaker, and well appointed kitchen.

Location wise, the Watercolor Cottage is truly unique and offers something for everyone. Step out the front door and walk 3 minutes to the right (East) to find the Vic Steimel Waterfront Park, ideal for rock hunting and a cup of coffee as you catch the sunrise. It's also the perfect spot for morning, smooth water SUP rides. In the opposite direction out the front door, another easy 3 minute walk to the public sandy shore of Suttons Bay for an afternoon or evening swim. The Caribbean blue water and sunsets do not disappoint! We're happy to share a garage full of water floats, sand toys, kayaks and life preservers as well.

When you're ready to get out and explore, some of Leelanau County's best vineyards are within a 15 minute drive, not to mention 7 minutes to Hop Lot, 20 mins to Farm Club, and 25 mins into Traverse City. The nearby Village of Suttons Bay is a vibrant, creative community offering convenient and quality groceries at Hansen Foods, unique local shops, restaurants, bayside parks, a theater, bike and boat rental, trailheads, and much more. We'll be happy to provide recommendations to the best of what Leelanau County has to offer if you desire them.

The WCC is on a peaceful side road, with large yard space and mature trees perfect for hammock lounging. One hammock provided, bring more if you wish! The rear patio offers a large dining table, Weber grill, and outdoor lounge area. Facing west and with beautiful sunset views is the fire pit. Cornhole boards, croquet set, and other yard games can be found in the garage.

We love our neighbors at The Watercolor Cottage, and the serenity that everyone who comes here experiences. In that spirit, we ask that guests are mindful of others and the surroundings so it can continue to be enjoyed by many. In accordance with the Suttons Bay short term rental ordinance, we can accommodate up to 4 adults and 2 children. We're unable to accept reservations for more than 4 adults. Vacation in Leeelanau county. This fun two bedroom rental sleeps five comfortably and has a full kitchen, dining room. and living room. If you are old enough to remember the first Star Wars or a fan of L.O.T.R. you'll love this decor. the unit has a seperate entrance and living space from a down to earth owner who will respect yoiur privacy and expects you to have some fun while on vacation.

Minutes away from the Village of Suttons Bay, public beaches, Hop Lot and other great local eateries and shops. Enjoy Northern Michigan's clear starry nights and beautiful sunsets on a large deck with table, umbrella, chairs and small fire place or sit around a mostly hidden fire pit near the woods. Twin over full size bunk, queen bed and a pullout couch could sleep more people but there is only 1 bathroom. Coffee nook only seats 4 as does the kitchen table. Dining room table seats 8.

There is no air conditioning but opening the front and back doors and/or windows almost always allows a nice breeze.

Surrounded by 15 acres of vacant land makes it easier to enjoy yourselves.

Coffee grounds and a brewer are provided. If you are a coffee connoiseur, bring your own grounds, beans or K cups. Paper goods are provided (Paper plates, bowls plastic silverware & cups.) Towels, washcloths, hand towels and soap are provided

The kitchen has most accessories that you will need: Pots and pans, rice cooker, slow cooker/crock pot, milkshake blender, pizza cooker, toaster, cappucccino maker, tabletop mixer, hand held mixers, chocolate fountain. Almost all utensils. (Text ahead of time to check on specific items)

I am a pet owner and I understand that they cause wear and tear on a place. I am also a pet lover so I will allow 2 pets for $30 per night. YOU will still be responsible for any damage to the house. I.E. torn screen door, etc.

New stove, dishwasher, microwave & coffee maker, washer and dryer, refrigerator New 12' slider, carpet & a fresh coat of paint.

Queen pull out couch adds to the number of guests that can sleep comfortably but only 1 bathroom really needs to be considered.

I was a Lord of the Rings fan way before the movies came out & I have always tried to keep the decor fun. A number of puzzles, the suit of armor and exact costume for Darth Vader can be gently enjoyed. I found out that Gandolf's staff is no match for Anduril, Aragorn's sword. Sting and the light sabers of Luke and Anakin can't be appreciated without holding them in your hands.

The small refrigerator in the coffee nook is ideal for cold beverages. The electric fireplace can be on for ambiance or set to heat. 65" TV is nice but most guests don't come to Leelanau county to watch TV. I subscribe to Direct TV, Peacock and Prime.

- "The kitchen was big, new and well stocked with everything you need. Nice deck area with table and chairs and a firepit. Plenty of table room to eat and Darth Vader not really eat much. Owner was very generous with letting people use the memorabilia and we definitely tried to respect that so they will be nice for others in the future. The owner was also very accommodating and let us come a little early since no one was staying there the night before. There is no air conditioning, but the breeze kept it cool enough most of the time. There were a few problems we had while we were there. One was fairly minor, the kitchen sink was not draining very fast. The owner said he would look into it after we left. The second was a little more serious. We had a problem with the bed the first night that made it unusable. The owner fixed the problem while we were out of the house and refunded a part of the amount we paid. He was very apologetic as well. The description says there is a hot tub, but the hot tub on the deck doesn't work. The owner said they use it to cool off in the summer. It wasn't a big deal as we were only 2 miles from the Sutton's Bay beach which was more interesting to us anyway. Overall we really like staying in the place and would definitely consider staying again."
