The restored historic home dates to 1840. The Stagecoach 1840 served as a tollhouse for stagecoaches traveling on the private toll road north of Jefferson Street in Nashville for many years. The important period features, original brick exteriors, wood floors, and over six sash windows can be found in this pre-Civil War Indiana building, while modern amenities, a full kitchen, and one and a half bathrooms make your stay a comfortable one.

When the Buffalo Nickel owners remodeled the property, they discovered old copies of the Indianapolis Star Newspaper used as insulation. The age of the newspapers prompted further research of the property, and they found that one of the earliest residents was a woman whose father settled in Brown County around the turn of the century. They discovered the woman's most prized possessions were two small nickels her father made upon first settling. The woman shared this story with her local paperboy, showing him the nickels to teach a lesson about hard work. Thus, the name Buffalo Nickel was adopted.

Buffalo Nickel is located on the north end of Nashville, giving visitors a view of downtown from the 300-square-foot deck with an overhanging black locust tree. - "Very cute cottage with a lot of property behind and beside it with loads of trees and birds. We even saw deer two different times in back section! About a 10 minute scenic drive into quaint Nashville." - "This property was exactly as described and exactly what we needed for a few nights away. Close to Nashville but far enough out that we got the quiet and peace desired. Would love to stay again next time we are in the area." - "The house was clean and well prepared with everything we needed, and the hot tub was ready to go on arrival. The view of the tub, woods, and little bridge across the private section of creek is absolutely stunning in the morning light. The road is close but not too busy, and the porch swing is a nice place to have your morning tea or coffee as we did. Overall very clean and cozy location. My only reservations were in how little space to prep food there was - not everyone looks to cook big meals on a weekend getaway, but it was a big part of our plans! We made due but it would have been nice to have more realistic expectations of the kitchen workspace. The Hot Tub also had a slight bee problem - we tried to redirect them by putting out sugar water but they were just in love with the hot tub vapor. Thats a difficult issue to solve without harming the bees (which we'd never want to happen), so it's just something to take note of. Luckily the little cottage cools down quickly as the sub sets in the evenings thanks to the high ground on all sides, so the bees turned in long before we did. Overall we had MANY more "wow, thats nicer than expected"/from what we could tell from the photos type moments than the few little unexpected slight inconveniences. We knew within minutes of entering we want to stay here again some day, and would recommend the place in a heartbeat. The rental company was prompt and polite at every step and that was the cherry on top!"

Upstairs is a large master bedroom with king-size bed, chaise longue, and another flat-screen Smart TV, just in case you have to get your late-night late show “fix”. Also located on the second floor is a bathroom plus a loft area that’s outfitted with a game table, TV hooked to DVD only, and a rocker strategically placed to make the most of the pretty view outdoors.

Billiards enthusiasts will be happy to know that a pool table is on the lower level, where you’ll also find a door for easy access to the fire pit and the pond. Fishing is a pastime enjoyed by many while staying at Laguna House…maybe you’ll like it, too. Catch and release fishing.

Little Nashville Getaway...THE STORY...
In 1946, Agatha Roberts Reed moved to Brown County with her mystery writer husband, G. T. Fleming Roberts, the creator of the Secret Agent X series of the pulp magazines. Because of the resemblance of their home to that of the Hansel and Gretel house in an illustration in their small son's story book, Agatha and Tommy named their log home on State Road 135 the "Witch House." For years, Agatha entertained passersby with smoking dry ice on the patio and dressing up as a witch, thus becoming known as the "Witch of Beanblossom Ridge."

Agatha moved to the "Little Nashville Getaway," which she decorated with furnishings from the Witch House. These display her eclectic taste for bright colors and contrasting patterns and include some "witchy" touches. Agatha was a flamboyant dresser and was known for wearing a hat on almost any occasion...some of which remain at the "Little Nashville Getaway" for you to try on (with care!)

Artist’s Retreat Cottage
Many a Brown County artist has set up an easel in the beautiful valley where Owl Creek flows past enormous old sycamore, walnut, and hickory trees. This is the serene setting for Artist’s Retreat Cottage, and is believed by some to be the site where artist L. O. Griffiths painted his lovely piece entitled “Owl Creek Farm”. The quaint 1-bedroom cottage offers guests a chance to rest and reflect on the important things in life.
Everything you need is provided…such as linens for bed, bath, and kitchen, soap and shampoo, and even basic pantry staples like flour, sugar, and coffee. You are invited to make yourselves at home and pretend that this is your very own private getaway.

- "We rented the Artist's Retreat just to getaway for a weekend during the pandemic. Such a nice place. The cottage is cozy and sits on a beautiful piece of land. Fully equipped kitchen made it easy to make our meals. We enjoyed sitting with our coffees in the morning in front of the gas fireplace. The hot tub was also wonderful! Several times, groups of deer would venture into the field behind to graze. We would definitely recommend this for a couple and plan to come back when we can."

The bedrooms share a full bath on the second floor; but there’s a handy half-bath on the main floor, as well.

Dogwood Point is nicely situated between Nashville and Bean Blossom so you’ll be within just a few scenic minutes of activities in either location. Think: Bill Monroe Bluegrass Festival, Remember Me Antiques, Greg Schatz Pottery Studio, and the Flower & Herb Barn just to name a few all to the north in the Bean Blossom area. - "We loved the property, the room, location everything about it. My only suggestion would be to add blinds or a curtain to the entry window. You can not see anything up the stairs into the room, however we did have a few people out walking around ( expected it was New Years) However, when they were standing outside our door and the lights were on you feel a bit vulnerable. Once you’ve parked the car and headed toward the house, the covered porch is the first place you will be tempted to sit and enjoy the view of the pretty yard and woods surrounding the cottage. As you come into the house, there’s a bright and cheerful living room all decked out in beige and red, with a stone wood-burning fireplace (duraflame logs only and NOT provided) centered on the main wall. The tongue and groove cathedral ceiling adds a lot of rustic character, and French doors bring in loads of natural light, while providing access to the expansive deck on the back side of the house. Your fully-equipped kitchen extends off the living room, and the open design means that not a word of conversation, or a view of the winning touchdown on the big screen TV will be missed just because someone went to the kitchen for a snack. Pretty cabinetry, a stainless steel side-by-side fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and smooth-top range offers all the conveniences you likely left back home…but isn’t it more fun playing house in a different location? We certainly think so!

The bedroom features a queen-size log frame bed and matching dresser, but there’s also a few antique pieces thrown in for interest and convenience, and guests will also appreciate the door that goes out to the deck, too. The bathroom which adjoins the bedroom has a nice shower and plenty of fluffy towels to refresh you after a day spent tromping around Brown County.

The outdoor dining table and charcoal grill on the deck offers options for dining al fresco. A small but nice hot tub makes the deck experience complete, as you and your mate engage in the daily unwind…country style.

You may be aware that there are plenty of outdoor adventure opportunities in our area…so take your choice from zipline trippin’ through the treetops, hiking a trail in Yellowwood State Forest or Brown County State Park, guided ATV tours, saddling up a horse for a ride through the woods, or giving mountain biking a go. Swimming, fishing, boating, and kayaking are totally fun outdoor pursuits you might enjoy, too. Don’t forget that Brown County has lots to offer in the way of arts & crafts shops and studios, as well as music a’plenty. Prepare to be entertained by attending a concert at the Brown County Music Center, or at the Brown County Playhouse (movies are also shown there on certain days/evenings), Mike’s Dance Barn, or at the Bill Monroe Memorial Park. There’s also live music provided lots of evenings at a number of area eateries. The cottage has a wood burning stove, a flatscreen TV, a loveseat sofa and a sitting area with a table and chairs. Although it is operational, the wood burning stove is just for ambiance. (it is larger than needed for the Couples Cottage and if you fire it up, you will have to sleep with the doors open)LOL

This wonderful cottage is new on our property in 2021. The building used to be the Ice Cream Cottage that our great friend Donna operated for 20 years and retired in December of 2020. We reinvented this wonderful building as our next lodging unit. The building was completely gutted down to the bare studs and our architect did a wonderful job designing a fantastic, comfortable layout as an awesome lodging accommodation. The decor has all been handpicked by the owners, Matt and Amy. The location can't be beat. It's nestled in the heart of the village on the forward south area of our property and allows you to exit your door and walk 30 feet west to the sidewalk. Six restaurants are between one minute and four minutes walk from the SUNSHINE COTTAGE.
