3BR, 2.5BA Log Cabin
Cabin
Nashville, Indiana, USA

Bluebird Hills Log Cabin

Welcome to Blue Bird Hills Cabin! We hope you find the cabin to be as peaceful and restorative as can be. There is nothing better than sitting on the front porch with a cup of coffee watching the myriad of birds at the feeder or watching a summer storm role through.

The bones of this beautiful cabin come from an 1800s Kentucky log cabin. In 1975 the logs of the cabin were disassembled and put back together here on Upper Schooner Road in Nashville, Indiana. The large hand-hewn logs set the tone for what is truly a piece of art. The current Owners acquired the property in 2013, updating and restoring the cabin to what it is today. The cabin is ideally situated on a bucolic dead-end road. Schooner Valley is surrounded on three sides by parkland and the cabin is minutes away from the West Entrance to the Brown County State Park – home to world class walking and mountain bike trails. Beautiful Nashville, Indiana is less than a 10 minute drive and Bloomington, with its great restaurants and Indiana University campus, is a 20 minute drive.

When you arrive at the cabin, you cannot help but be struck by beautiful views and lovely landscaping. If you are fortunate enough to come in early spring, you will be treated to the most spectacular array of daffodils. The cabin’s stunning exterior of hand-hewn logs, aged board and batten, the gorgeous Indiana stone fireplace and dark metal roof create the quintessential log cabin vibe.

Upon entering the cabin there is a large and welcoming fireplace with a hearth made for sitting in front of a cozy gas fireplace. The living space is tastefully decorated with a sofa and gorgeous leather swivel chairs and is open to the rest of the main floor. The dining area has a large farm table (an antique door converted into a table with wrought iron legs) that sits in front of a bay window. The kitchen maintains the warm feel of exposed beams, while boasting cathedral ceilings and large windows to capture the natural beauty of the surroundings. There is a farm sink with dark granite countertops and a breakfast bar with three tall stools – the perfect space for cooking and hanging together. Off the kitchen area, you will find a cool old door with a large window that takes you down to the walk out lower level and game room. The game room has a large sectional sofa that fits plenty of people - the perfect place to a watch a movie or your favorite sports team. The back half of the room is home to a gorgeous pool table with exposed wood legs and a black felt surface. Those waiting their turn to shoot can sit on the wrought iron bar stools with the rotating leather seats.

The main floor bathroom has a large walk-in shower with gorgeous stone tiles and a built-in bench. Off the main living space is the door to one of the highlights of the cabin, the front porch. The rocking chairs and porch swing make this an ideal place to relax and take in the view. The wooden coffee table has a built in chess/checker’s board for those that like to play.

The stairs up to the second floor boast the amazing iron work of a local artisan. The signature tree silhouettes can be found on the railings of all three floors, highlighting the rustic beauty of Blue Bird Hills Cabin. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a half bath. The larger of the two bedrooms has a sitting area and both have vaulted ceilings with exposed wood. Like the rest of the cabin, the bedrooms are tastefully appointed and create an inviting and restful atmosphere.

For those that enjoy games, go downstairs tot he family/game room and there is a dart board in the back corner near the pool table. In addition, the cabinet under the stairs (with the rustic wooden door) contains lots of board games and puzzles. We ask that you put all the pieces back in the box and put the games/puzzles back in the cabinet when done. Let us know if there are any other games you think we should add to the repertoire! Off the game room is the lower level master ensuite with a king sized bed. The master bathroom has beautiful stone tiled floors and a walk-in shower. There is also a washer/dryer available for your use.

The sliding glass doors on the lower level lead to another cabin highlight – an outdoor shower and a hot tub! The natural Indiana stone backing, antique brick base, weathered barnboard sides and views of the valley make for a glorious place to take a shower.

In the front yard there is a firepit for those who want to sit out by a campfire and plenty of room for croquet, bocce and tether ball.

Perfect cabin for a lovely, old fashioned Christmas." - "The cabin is really cute and full of history and antiques, yet comfortable and well supplied. It was a perfect set up for my husband and I and our 2 dogs. No internet and no phone which can be good but a bit isolating and a bit farther from Nashville, IN than we might have liked but a great retreat and screened in porch area was really a welcome spot to read."

- "Clean and relaxing" - "My friend and I stayed at the cabin for a writing retreat. It was a perfect spot. The cabin was cozy, the kitchen was well equipped, and the internet was fast and reliable. The location was quiet and secluded (however, it was pretty close to the street, and many drivers went quite fast, so if you bring kids or pets, you need to keep an eye open). The hot tub was relaxing, and they had a great fire pit and grill in the front yard. The back porch overlooked the woods, which made it particularly nice. Plus, the property manager was incredibly responsive whenever we had a question (e.g., we had a question about the water level of the hot tub on our third evening; it was well after business hours, and they responded within minutes!). We certainly would stay here again if we had the opportunity."

- "Lovely property. Beautiful cabin." - "We had a wonderful stay here! There were 4 of us (all adults), and we had ample space. The house itself is beautiful, with lots of wood paneling and matching furniture. The beds were comfortable, everything was very clean, and the house was well-stocked with dishes and towels. Everything in the house, including the furniture, was in great condition and looked almost new. The deck is a particular gem and has 2 loungers on one side and an outdoor table on the other. It was very peaceful to sit on the deck with coffee in the morning and look down the hill and through the trees at the lake. Overall, we had a great stay, and Theresa herself was very communicative, kind, and accommodating. We would definitely recommend staying here!"

This delightfully cozy two bedroom (4-person) historic log cabin is just a “hop, skip and jump” from downtown Nashville, yet has a private setting perched high on a 2-acre wooded lot overlooking a creek. Both the huge front deck and the back hot tub deck provide tree house like views. The owner’s joy of antiques and fun “quirky uniques” shows through in this beautifully decorated cabin that was totally renovated in winter 2016.

Both the main floor and upstairs bedrooms have queen beds and on suite bathrooms. The kitchen and dining room features rustic beams and opens up to the living room with a fireplace (gas logs) and a large bank of windows providing lots of sunlight and wonderful views.
The location is extra special in that it is only one mile out of town and two miles from the Brown County Music Center.
On a pretty day you’ll enjoy the short walk down a quaint county road to take advantage of shopping, dining and live entertainment that Nashville provides.
You’ll be part of nature in the private setting which is perched on a small bluff overlooking a babbling creek. The two decks take full advantage of this beautiful setting.

Serendipity Park Cabin, as its name suggests, is a lucky discovery on 13 acres next to Brown County State Park. It is surrounded by woods & meadows, hills & valleys, and bottomlands & creeks. Please be aware that all state parks have entrance fees, and guests should have a park pass or pay these fees at an official park gate.

Sit on the front porch during the day to enjoy birds attracted to the spring and creek. A grill and fire pit will add to your enjoyment outside.

- "Very clean, very comfortable. No cell service. No Wi-Fi. No telephone in cabin." - "This property was beautiful. We felt that we had privacy, and were still only a few minutes away from the park, grocery, and downtown Nashville. Our only complaint was that the bathtub didn’t work (we used the shower). However, because we were only there for a quick weekend, we didn’t reach out to maintenance about fixing it. Just ignore the email from the property management group about how tourists are a burden and danger to the area-come down anyway and enjoy a beautiful stay!"

This is an early1800’s era hand-hewn log cabin relocated to its current site in the 1960s when Lake Monroe was built. It maintains its old-time vibe. Enter the covered porch by 2 steps and walk into the authentic kitchen. Despite its old-time feel, the cabin has been updated with all the essential modern amenities, including air conditioning and WiFi. The cabin features an upstairs bedroom with a queen-size bed, but be careful on the steep staircase. Everything else, including the bath with tub and shower, is on the main level .

The Owl’s Roost offers tranquil enjoyment of the natural world in a great location that allows you easy access to Nashville and Bloomington. You may even be lucky enough to see the turkeys that regularly pass through the property.

The Owl’s Roost is a charming, unassuming little cabin loved by its owners who are happy to share it with you. So call Hills O’ Brown Vacation Rentals, or make your reservations online when you have a few days to come and relax.

Only thing that was difficult was only bedroom up steep steps. I slept downstairs. This is not a good cabin for older folks that can't climb up and down steep steps." - "This is the perfect cabin in the woods!!" - "We loved the cabin and will come back for sure. The screened in front porch was amazing to set and watch the birds, read, nap, and enjoy nature. Quiet cabin in the woods, if you’re wanting WiFi and can’t live without it, this might not be for you. We had no problem without WiFi! Everything is laid out perfect. The Owl’s Roost♥️"

Moose Mountain Lodge
While guests of Moose Mountain may not see any moose in Brown County, they are totally likely to see plenty of other wildlife. Within the boundaries of the 100-acre property on which the three-bedroom cabin sits, there are birds, squirrels, raccoons, and deer a-plenty…so bring your binoculars and get ready for fun. The hilltop views are spectacular, whether you’re on the porch or enjoying a soak in the hot tub.
Moose Mountain is a spacious log cabin that offers a wood-burning fireplace in the living room , and comfy furniture surrounding it for your flame-gazing pleasure. Hiking, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, and shopping…all entertaining activities available to you throughout Brown County…can really work up an appetite.

You’ll be thankful for the fully equipped country kitchen, with plenty of space and utensils to cook a family dinner for your hungry tribe. There’s a nice, big dining table to gather round for meals or board games. Two TVs with satellite service will allow movie buffs and sports enthusiasts to enjoy their favorites.

When night falls, everybody has a cozy bed to crawl into for that much deserved slumber. There’s a queen-sized bed in the master bedroom, and one of the bedrooms features twin beds. Another bedroom also has a queen bed, as well. All bedrooms are on the main level, and a full bath, plus a half-bath means less “standing-in-line” time.

Well-behaved pets are invited to come along on the family outing…and there’s plenty of room to run on the very private and secluded property. So many new smells to investigate, your pooch will have a heyday!

We want to make our guests aware that Moose Mountain’s water supply comes from a well…and while it is perfectly fine to drink, you may want to consider bringing bottled water along for your stay, as not everyone appreciates the finer points of country well-water.

All our cabins have a 3 night minimum for Major Holidays.

Call and make a reservation for Moose Mountain your Brown County adventure awaits!

4BR, 3.5BA cabin
Cabin
Nashville, Indiana, USA

THIS UNIT IS PROFESSIONALLY MANAGED BY HILLS O' BROWN VACATION RENTALS.
Lake Forest is more of a lodge than a cabin. It has been built in the "post and beam" architecture of the Pacific Northwest, with wood and beams coming from Washington State and British Columbia. It sits on over 12 wooded acres, on a five acre private lake (only shared by the sister cabin named Serendipity Park), adjacent to state forest and a large land conservation area protected from development. The entrance drive is private and beautiful. It's as though you are driving through Brown County State Park. The entrance is enhanced by a short, easy ramp as well as steps, so that a wheelchair or mobility cart can easily access the lodge.

The Master and an additional bedroom are on the main level, and two additional bedrooms are on the lower, walk-out area facing the lake. All have king beds and exceptional views. The Master Bath (main level) is handicapped accessible. The doors to the Master Suite and bath are oversize 34" doors for wheelchair access. The second main level bedroom is adjacent to another full bath with tub/shower. In addition there is a powder room off the main living area.

The large kitchen has solid cherry cabinets, and is open to the dining and living areas. A large island provides seating for intimate gatherings. The dining area has a solid white oak table made by the owner, seating eight. A huge stone fireplace and expansive windows dominate the main living area. Outside on the main level, a deck runs the length of the lodge, plenty of space for your entire group to dine al fresco.

Off the dining area two sliding, eight foot tall oak doors on barn hardware slide open to reveal a large enclosed all-season porch with large windows and a comfy hide-a-bed. And another spectacular view. The open stairway from main level to lower level has a custom iron work railing depicting a blue heron, dragonflies, and cattails, made by a well-known Brown County artisan.

On the lower level there is a large gathering room with pool table, Smart TV and wet bar with an under counter beverage cooler. Two additional bedrooms flank the central gathering room, as does a full bath with double vanities and a tub/shower. One of the bedrooms has a second bonus room. Step outside and into the large hot tub with seating for eight! Lake Forest contains over 3000 square feet of custom designed space suitable for larger families or up to four couples.

This lodge was designed for peace and quiet and comfort. We hope you enjoy your stay!

Sharing part of the same property is one of our sister cabins, Serendipity Park. While the two cabins are both located on the same 25 acre property, neither house is visible from the other, so your privacy (except shared lake) won't be interrupted. The fact that the cabins share the same property is very handy for families or group of friends who desire two cabins being fairly close together.

These cabins are individually owned and this Owner has some special event pricing and has a 3 night minimum requirements other than just the holidays. Those 3 night minimums for 2025 and 2026 are:

Sunset Getaway
When was the last time you allowed yourself to stop and take delight in a beautiful sunset at the end of the day? The cabin known as Sunset Getaway is nestled in a pretty wooded area just four miles northwest of Nashville, and its front porch is a perfect spot for watching the sun go down. The well-mannered dog who understands the meaning of “house-trained” will be welcome here, too, if Rover likes to accompany you on the occasional countryside romp.

The log cabin is cozily outfitted to ensure you have a relaxing stay, with comfy furniture in the great room where you may want to cuddle up with a big bowl of popcorn for some TV time. The kitchen has the necessities for cooking up a simple snack or a feast, and all the dishes can go in to the dishwasher when the party is over.

The main level also offers two bedrooms: the master bedroom… ready for you to get a good night’s sleep in the big king-size bed that’s dressed in a pretty patchwork quilt; and the second bedroom with a queen-size bed is close by.

No need to let boredom take hold while you’re a guest at Sunset Getaway…trot downstairs and call your best shots as you gather round the pool table; watch a favorite movie on TV; and set up your favorite drinks at the wet bar. You can pull out the bed in the sleeper sofa for an extra guest or two. A second bathroom on the lower level is handy for guests having fun or sleeping there.

We think you’ll appreciate the accommodations outside, too… there’s a hot tub, firepit and an outdoor grill to round out the fun. A picnic table on the deck will be an inviting place to chat as you pass around a platter of your favorite foods from the barbecue. You may want to challenge your friends to a quick game of cards here, or just discuss where you’re going to go next as you pursue the vacation way of life in Brown County.

When you’re ready to venture out from the cabin, you can choose from many activities in our area, such as hiking through Yellowwood State Forest, mountain biking in Brown County State Park, riding horses, going after your opponents in paintball games, or swooshing through the treetops on a zipline. If you prefer more laid-back pursuits, then you should investigate the variety of shops and galleries in the village of Nashville and beyond. Reserve Sunset Getaway today so you and your BFFs can make some awesome memories!

All our cabins have a 3 night minimum for Major Holidays. Must be 24years or older to book.

Guest Reviews:

- "Only about 10 minutes from downtown Nashville, hidden in the hills. private hot tub, pool table. Definitely need to be able to traverse steps to stay as the main living space/kitchen is on the "upper" level." - "It was so peaceful on pleasant during our stay. The accommodation were great, the only thing that would of made it better was the weather being a little warmer. We look forward to coming back here in the future." - "Our visit to the property was in January, two weeks after the area had received a significant amount of snow. There were no warnings ahead of time that a four-wheel drive vehicle would be the best option for access to the property. The only warning was when the lady at the check-in asked what type of vehicle we were driving and gave us a weary look when we told her what we had. The driveway to the cabin was not cleared off nearly as well as it could have been from the previous snow. The decks and outside seating areas were not cleared at all, beyond a tiny path to the hot tub. If we cannot cancel our reservation due to weather, I expect every portion of the property to be accessible, it was not. Thankfully, there was a shovel available so that we could clear the driveway better the next morning, get into town to get salt and actually get my vehicle all the way up the driveway on our return to the cabin. I sent photos via email to the property management office of damage being created by an ice damn on the gutters and received no response. I also received no response via email when asking if an earlier check in would be possible. Cleanliness was fairly decent with some small issues here and there, otherwise the cabin itself was comfortable, had everything we needed and a very beautiful view of the surrounding area. The neighbors were friendly and very helpful, especially the gentleman who was plowing snow with his gator. "

SWIM SPA
Safety is a top priority at Helmsburg Homestead, particularly when it comes to enjoying the Swim Spa. While this feature offers a relaxing and fun experience for guests, we urge vigilance when children are near or using the spa.

Children: Always supervise children closely around the Swim Spa. It is not a substitute for a swimming pool, and its warm water and jets require careful attention to ensure their safety. We recommend setting clear rules, such as no running on the deck, NO DIVING, and always having an adult present.

Pregnant Guests or Those Taking Medications: If you are pregnant, have medical conditions, or are taking medications, consult your doctor before using the Swim Spa. Prolonged exposure to warm water can raise body temperature and may not be suitable for everyone.

The Swim Spa is a wonderful amenity designed for relaxation and enjoyment, but safety and care are essential to ensure it remains a positive part of your stay. By staying vigilant and adhering to these guidelines, you can enjoy this feature responsibly and make lasting memories at Helmsburg Homestead.

As our chickens free range the property, pets are NOT allowed.

Embracing the charm of country living means sharing the space with nature's tiny visitors, including ladybugs and other critters that add to the relaxing rural vibe. We schedule quarterly pest control and work diligently to keep the home as bug-free as possible. However, bugs may occasionally find their way inside through open doors, shoes, or luggage—it’s simply part of the countryside experience.

You may notice some mole holes and mounding around the property. We kindly ask you to stay mindful of this when walking to ensure everyone’s safety. We want everyone, including your furry friends, to have a safe and enjoyable stay. Please note that we cannot be held responsible for injuries on the property.

On the lower level there is a large gathering room with pool table and wet bar with an under counter beverage cooler.

While the two cabins are both located on the same 70 acre property, neither house is visible from the other, so your privacy (except shared lake) won't be interrupted. There is also a full bathroom on this level, with a tub, and shower. New Moen shower trim makes sure that you have great water pressure, too.

In the center of this level, is an open area office space with a desk and easy chairs. This is a great place for checking in at office or, maybe engaging in some awesome gaming tactics! The high-speed internet at 7 Acre Legacy Lodge is fantastic!

Are you coming to Brown County having already planned your activities? 7 Acre Legacy Lodge is located within minutes of all the great shopping and eateries of Nashville and is close to many of the other great attractions that Brown County has to offer! However, be aware that Legacy Lodge has so much to do, you may never want to leave the property!

The lower level of the home is made just for fun! At the bottom of the stairs, a left turn will take you to the entertainment room! With a table and many board game choices, you can have hours of fun laughing, playing, and competing! There is also a sitting area with a comfy couch and a 60 inch Smart TV. Turn on the fireplace for a cozy movie night. A right turn at the stairs will take you to something a little more physically demanding-a ping pong table! How about a rousing game, anyone!? What fun!

The patio doors on this level will lead you out to a 6 person hot tub where you can relax and enjoy the scenery around you. Maybe you’ll want to take a soak at night while enjoying the open, night sky! This level of the home has another full bath with a large, walk-in shower and an open laundry area for your convenience.

The fun doesn’t end at the entertainment room. Bring the party outside! There is so much to see and do! Create some memories together around the firepit next to the pond. Perfect for roasting some S’mores! Take a hike in the woods surrounding the house. Sit on the small patio out by the pond and listen to the frogs sing you a song. There will always be wildlife around to keep you company and keep you entertained! There is provided fishing equipment here. Feel free to dip a pole in the water, which has been nicknamed “Bass Pond” for a reason. Catch and Release is appreciated. There is enough space and flat land to put together a wiffle ball game, play a game of soccer or just about anything else that you can imagine.

Feel free to bring your dogs along for the fun too—7 Acre Legacy Lodge is pet-friendly and welcomes your furry companions!

Whatever your fancy, chances are you will find it at 7 Acre Legacy Lodge! Bring a group of girlfriends for a weekend getaway.
