This beautiful mountain retreat is nestled in 8 acres of hardwood trees and mountain laurels sitting right on the bluff with gorgeous views. Located 8 minutes from the Sewanee Gates entering The University of the South and the St. Andrew's-Sewanee campuses, this is a great place for alumni and parents to stay when visiting the mountain. The drive to the house is less than 2 hours from Nashville, 1 hour from Chattanooga, 3 hours from Atlanta, and 2 1/2 hours from Birmingham.

* For people who are looking for a romantic getaway, Bairnwick Too makes it easy to unwind by the fireplace, on the screened-in porch, sitting on the front deck, or relaxing in the hammock. There are several restaurants and nature trails in the area.

* For music lovers, The Caverns Amphitheater venue in Pelham is just 25 minutes away.

* For golfers, Sewanee has a wonderfully unique and challenging nine-hole/18-tee golf course with great views. Sweetens Cove (ranked by Golfweek as the 21st best course in the U.S. you can play) is just 45 minutes away.

The house blends in nicely with its natural surroundings and is well-appointed with hardwood and ceramic tile floors, floor-to-ceiling casement windows, and ceiling fans in every room. The living room has a wood-burning stone fireplace. The dining table seats 8 and the kitchen has everything you should need. High-speed fiber internet is available throughout the house. There is a high-definition 50-inch TV with Apple TV and a variety of streaming services including access to all the common cable and local channels along with DVDs and a stereo with connections for your audio devices. The master bedroom has a king bed, TV, and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower and heated tiled floors. The main bathroom has a tub and shower. The second bedroom has a double bed as well as a single bed suitable for a child. The third bedroom is located downstairs accessed by a spiral staircase and has a queen bed and two trundle beds. (The spiral staircase could be a challenge for older people or someone with mobility limitations.)

The deck overlooks the bluff. The screened-in porch features a porch swing, lounge chairs, ceiling fans, outdoor speakers, and a wrought-iron dining table for four. The driveway is lined with fruit trees and wildflowers abound. Deer, hawks, songbirds, and crickets will keep you company.

Bairnwick Too is named after my grandparents’ house, which is now the Bairnwick Women's Center at Sewanee. Bairnwick is Gaelic and means 'House of Children.' We seek to retain this spirit and Bairnwick Too is a wonderful place for families to gather. The house is located in Deep Woods, which is behind St. Andrews-Sewanee School and overlooks the same valley as seen from Green's View. The surrounding woods are fun to explore and there are plenty of trees to climb.

Please note that you must be over 25 years old to rent and you must be in attendance. Due to the bluff and 70-foot drop-off, parents will need to provide appropriate supervision of children at all times and the house may not be appropriate for families with small children. There is not a fence and everybody will need to exercise caution around the edge of the bluff.

WELCOME TO SIDEWAYS IN SEWANEE!

Sideways is a RUSTIC, but quaint little 3 bedroom, 2 bath house right smack in the middle of campus (the University of the South campus, that is). It's a 120+ year old gem of a cottage whose poor old bones just aren't as straight as they once were.

That said, as of March 2022, we added an ensuite bath where an old closet used to be and opened up the den to the kitchen dining area. We attempted as best we could to level her out, but that just proved beyond the scope. Back in April 2018, we also performed another little renovation, so if you've stayed here before or saw previous reviews about crazy bright paint colors, you'll be pleasantly surprised! It no longer looks like a box of crayons exploded inside. The renovation included fresh paint inside & out, a new tin roof, removal of the vinyl siding outside to go back to the original wood siding, updated light fixtures, a new deck, new operable windows with screens throughout, and a new sliding glass door and glass top front door that both help to let in a lot more natural light.

While a bit crooked it may be, it definitely won't let you down when it comes to offering you relaxation on a budget and a great location to reconnect with alumni and friends! It's located within walking distance to the local coffee shop (Stirling's) and the local bar (Shenanigan's, which added a 2nd story balcony in 2018), as well as countless hiking trails, golf course, tennis courts, lakes for fishing, and just about every University building.

It is NOT the Hilton. This is an OLD house that is used as a vacation home on available weekends by the owners and their families (all Sewanee grads) and looks more like a casual old vacation cabin than a fancy bed and breakfast, so please set your expectations accordingly. All beds are queens. It has a tub shower/combo and a walk-in shower, a Washer & Dryer and a great set of porches (one covered porch, one uncovered deck).

There is NO CABLE and the TV signals DO NOT REACH inside the house (we've tried rabbit ears, digital converter boxes, and fancy expensive solutions that don't work). There is a DVD Player, but you will not be able to watch live TV, so plan to watch any sports games from Shenanigan's, Blue Chair or the Sewanee Inn. There is WIFI in the house. However, our goal with the house is to get away from it all, especially screens, so hopefully that's what you like about Sewanee also.

Please EMAIL (don't call) for specific questions regarding renting. If we need to talk by phone, that's not a problem, but we will respond much faster by email. Pricing is an average of $315 per night with a 2-night minimum except during Commencement/Graduation each year. Due to the high demand, the rate for Commencement is $2500 flat rate for minimum 6 nights/7 days. We don't book more than 1 year out and all stays need to be affiliated with University “sponsored” events, which are wide-ranging. Send us a message if you’re unsure what that entails. If you’re there to enjoy the campus, visit a student, give patronage to Sewanee Village, or anything in between, then you’re all set to book with us.

The Cabin at Muggs Pond

Built in 1975 and remodeled in 2006, The Cabin at Muggs Pond offers the perfect amount of mountain seclusion just 10 minutes (and three stop signs) away from The University of the South and St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School campuses. Full of rustic charm and eclectic flare, The Cabin also comes equipped with all the modern necessities and features you need during a weekend getaway or an extended vacation.

Step outside The Cabin’s back door to easily access a 1¾ mile trail perfect for walking, running or biking. Take the short walk down to Muggs Pond for plenty of fishing, canoeing and swimming. Enjoy morning cups of coffee or evening cocktails on The Cabin’s covered back porch. Grill up delicious dinners on The Cabin’s large side deck, complete with built-in bench seating.

The Cabin's great room includes a beautiful stained-glass window and large mountain stone fireplace, fully stocked with firewood for cold winter nights. Each of the bedrooms on the main level has its own 1/2 bath (toilet and sink) and shares a tub shower with an adjoining bedroom. The Cabin’s original full bath is also located on the main level, off of the kitchen. Walk up the spiral staircase to reach The Cabin’s loft bedroom, which has a cozy sitting area/den adjacent to it ideal for reading books, watching movies or playing board games with friends.

Excellent for any occasion (Myers Point, a favorite venue for Sewanee weddings and receptions; is only 1/4 mile away!), The Cabin is sure to make your trip to the mountain one to remember.

The home was originally built by beloved professor emeritus Dr. Steven Shrader, known for founding the Sewanee Orchestra.
We’ve named our home “Back on Tennessee Cottage,” bringing to mind Alumni returning to the Domain, our Tennessee roots, and capturing the location just off University Avenue. Given this is our family’s second home, we ask that guests help preserve the like new condition and we insist on no smoking or pets.

The home features an elegant octagonal suite, originally Dr. Shrader’s music room, now converted into an optional 4th bedroom. This 3, or 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath home (both full baths upstairs) is located directly across from the School of Theology and Quintard Hall on the corner of Tennessee and Mikell. The convenient location is walking distance to anything on campus or to shops and restaurants in the downtown Village.

Recent updates include fully remodeled bathrooms, added and refinished hardwood floors, and fresh paint throughout. Our home will comfortably sleep 8 guests. The kitchen is fully stocked and the floor plan is perfect for entertaining. Take your pick of two porches to enjoy nature or waive at students about their day. This cozy, sunny loft is tucked away on the Cumberland Plateau in Sewanee, with the serene forest and hiking trails only yards away. A separate 2nd-floor entrance with key-code entry allows guests to come and go, and the kitchenette and laundry allow guests to stay comfortably for a week or more.

The Bicycle House is located on the Cumberland Plateau in Sewanee, Tennessee. We bunt up to the University of The South Domain. We are avid cyclists and wanted a place where cyclists, hikers, kayakers or any type of nature lover could come! - "Our family stayed here the closing weekend of the Sewanee Summer Music Festival. We had come the year before and stayed at the local inn. This time we brought our two teenaged sons with us. We loved Sewanee and wanted to share a bit of it's small town charm and magic with the rest of the family. Happily, we were there to see the ending concert series and pick up our college aged son. The property manager communication was great. There was an issue with the hvac and hour or two before we arrived. She let us know that it was being addressed and fixed. We never would have known. When we arrived tha ac was working famtastically. Upon entry the unit was immaculate inside. They even left little treats of local baked goods (sweet bread and cookies) as well as some waters. My teenaged sons devoured them. Such a sweet and thoughtful touch. I would definitley stay again."

Sewanee is a small town in south-central Tennessee. It is known primarily for its natural scenery and association with the University of the South. There are roughly 2,500 residents, of whom about 1,500 are students at the University. Sewanee is positioned about halfway between Nashville and Chattanooga. The town and the roughly 13,000 acres surrounding it -- all of which are owned directly by the University -- are quaintly called "The Domain" by residents.

Another one of the prettiest college campuses in US, the massive 13,000-acre campus of Sewanee mainly features Collegiate Gothic architecture, the highlight of which is the All Saints' Chapel.

The other major attraction in Sewanee is the natural landscape. Due to its location on the Cumberland Plateau, there are many scenic vistas overlooking nearby valleys. Some are accessible by car (such as University View on Tennessee Ave and Green's View on Green's View Rd.), but most are accessible only by foot or mountain bike. University View and its large Memorial Cross are worth a drive down Tennessee Ave. for any visitor. There are also a number of unusual rock formations and other natural oddities in the area, which are outlined in local hiking guides.

The University hosts the Sewanee Writers' Conference each summer. The Sewanee Summer Music Festival is an annual, month-long music camp for young orchestral musicians under the tutelage of accomplished teachers and conductors.

There are more good restaurants nearby than one might expect. Of particular interest is Shenanigans, located in an old building at the intersection of Highway 41 and University Ave. A student favorite and generally good source of refreshments, it is in a building that has a noticeable lean due to its old age. Almost all restaurants are located within walking distance of the University/Hwy 41 intersection.

The Blue Chair, 41 University Ave...What started out as an eclectic and quaint coffee shop and bakery has become a local breakfast and lunch hotspot. The Blue Chair bakes muffins and cookies from scratch every day. The chicken salad sandwich and soup made from scratch make a good lunch. The coffee is excellent. They don't have fried food. Everything is fresh. Mighty fine eggs benedict! The tables outside make for excellent people-watching during warm months. No one ever accused the Blue Chair of being cheap. But one thing many people don't know is that they are affiliated with the Blue Monarch, a non-profit home for women in recovery. Great atmosphere and a great place to meet interesting people.

Plenty of comfortable rooms for our group of four. The owner was very hospitable and easy to reach. You’ll love this space because of the location, amenities, and cleanliness. This home is best suited for couples, small families and those traveling with pets.

This mobile home has an open layout. It’s 700 square feet and sits near the woods, off a back road, surrounded by grass and trees. It has a spacious fenced in backyard. Located 5 minutes off I-24.

The space:
You will be renting the entire home, two bedrooms, 1 bathroom. Full kitchen and access to a full size washer and dryer included. There is only one bathroom and this is a smaller home, so we don't recommend more than four guests, however on a case-by-case basis we can provide an air mattress to accommodate two additional guests - this makes the living room quite crowded though. Please message before booking to see if this is an option.

LOCATION: We are five minutes off of I24 (Monteagle exit) and also 5 minutes from Sewanee University. 25 minutes from The Caverns and Manchester/Kimball/Winchester. The Mountain Goat Trail is a short 3 minute drive, which is a long paved trail for walking or biking. Greeter falls, South Cumberland State Park, Franklin Forest, Natural Bridge, Stone Door, Savage Gulf, and many more are all less than an hour drive.

PETS: The space is dog friendly (other pets allowed on a case-by-case basis). Three dogs is the maximum, and it is strongly recommended that they be supervised when outside and crated if left alone inside. We encourage closing the driveway gate closed when your dog/s are outside (our neighbors have dogs that roam). We provide one large dog crate. All dogs must be up to date on their rabies vaccine, toe nails clipped and recently groomed and on flea/tick prevention. There is no dog fee, however we do ask that you let us know in advance. Please pick up after them in the yard, and while we prefer they stay off the furniture, we do provide blankets for that purpose.

We have two horses, two dogs, three cats, and occasionally foster puppies/dogs. These animals generally stay on our side of the fence. The fenced in yard surrounding the home is your space to use. All gates, except the driveway gate must remain closed at all times. Do not feed our animals or try to pet them without our supervision.
If you would like to spend time with our animals, let us know and we'll do our best to arrange a meeting.

This is rural TN, and there are woods all around. If doors or windows are left open you may find unplanned visitors such as bugs or a nosy cat. If animals distress you, we suggest booking elsewhere.

We live a few hundred feet from the space, and will be available if needed but will otherwise let you enjoy your time in Sewanee alone.

Same-day bookings are welcome, outside of normal sleeping hours we usually respond very quickly to requests.

Guests will have acess to the entirety of the home. The property does have a garage, but is reserved for the owners only.

To the extent now or hereafter permitted by applicable law, the lessee shall hold harmless the Cooley’s Rift Homeowners’ Association, Inc. from and against any and all liability related to access to and use of any Association facilities, structures, roadways, gate, natural habitats (including lakes, rivers, waterfalls, and trails) or other common areas contained within the Cooley’s Rift community.

FIRST TIME STAYING IN A SHIPPING CONTAINER HOME?
We get tons of questions - Many asking, "Is this a 'normal' home?" - The answer is, yes! The outside looks extremely unique, but once you're inside, you'll forget you're in a shipping container because of the comfortable design and thoughtful touches throughout the home. Split units keep our home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Please note, all of the bedrooms are single containers and therefore, are narrow. The photos show this as the containers are the width of queen/king size beds. Additionally, this is still a cabin in the woods! It is an upscale cabin, yet imperfect. If you are looking for hotel quality perfection, please consider booking elsewhere.

The pool is a 2 ft deep, 8 ft wide Palmingo Pools Stock Tank pool that is filtered and circulated just like a normal pool. It fits 6 adults (the size of a hot tub)! Our 'spa guy' comes by every Friday between the hours of 10am & 4pm to balance the chemicals in both the pool and hot tub. Outdoor shower and pool are open Mid April - Mid Oct depending on weather (Inquire for specific dates). Hot tub & Sauna open 24/7/365!

EARLY/LATE CHECK IN:
We schedule our cleaning team & pre arrival inspection team immediately upon your booking. If you would like to check in early or leave late, they have to reschedule their crew and request a fee for this. The fee is $30/hr for extra hours to compensate our crews for rearranging schedules and working different hours.

WINTER BOOKINGS:
Our container home is heated and cooled with split units. However, there are many outdoor spaces including the forest view room that will be the temperature of the outdoors. If not using the patios during a cold winter stay would ruin your time here, please consider booking elsewhere. Additionally, in Tennessee, pipes are traditionally under the home not fully protected from the elements and this is true with our as well. If temperatures are consistently below freezing during your trip, we will ask that you drip the faucets to prevent freezing pipes. This will likely only apply to select December, January and February bookings.

SAFETY:
We have 4 Ring security cameras on property:
1. Front door of the main home deck facing the driveway/street
2. Side of the main home facing the driveway
3. Back deck of the main home facing the North side of the property
4. Backyard facing the back door of the Canopy Container
All cameras are motion activated, are on the exterior of the home & in plain sight of the guest.

Booking party will be asked to sign a waiver/home agreement as we have many unique features on our property. This is required by our insurance.

DINING:
Living room 1 in the main home is the largest gathering area and can fit ~20 people. However, we do NOT have a formal indoor dining table. There is a large kitchen island with seating, 2 outdoor tables that seat 6-8 and a folding table.

EVENTS
As stated in our house rules, loud noise outdoors in the evenings/over night is now allowed. If you plan to throw a party, please do not book. This home feels VERY private, but noise carries. There will be a $500 fine for any noise complaints from neighbors.

CONNECTIVITY:
We have great wifi & okay phone service. Hour long Zooms are no problem! Depending on your provider, phone service may be limited, but we have 3 separate routers at our home to ensure that everyone is able to 'connect' while they are disconnecting. ; )

CRITTERS:
We have regular pest control for a variety of critters & regularly treat for snakes. However, you might see them anyway as we are on 5 acres of wooded forest. We do our best to prevent it, but sometimes bugs find their way inside. If this will ruin your stay, you might consider booking elsewhere.

CANCELLATIONS:
Holding our home 'just in case' hurts us as small business owners and home owners as this blocks our calendar, making it harder to rebook those days. Please ensure that all members of your party have fully confirmed these dates prior to booking.

We cannot provide any refunds for weather unless there is a government issued evacuation. Please protect yourself by purchasing travel insurance. We will infrequently experience winter weather and snow. While we are not in a true mountainous area, there are steep hills in parts of our town. Please plan accordingly. When booking our home using certain sites that use a payment processor, we incur fees that cannot be recouped if you cancel. We cannot refund any credit card processing fees.

WELCOME to our Tennessee Mountain Resort! Our home is a convenient 5 minute walk to the Clifftops lake. We are located minutes from "The Caverns" music venue, The University of the South at Sewanee, South Cumberland State Park, and some of the best hiking trails in the region. We are located only 45 minutes to Chattanooga, and just over an hour to Nashville, TN.

The Doc Holiday is a two story home with approximately 2,800 sqft.

-The master suite is located downstairs with a queen bed, full private bath with a tub and a walk-in shower.

-The Office "Nashville Room" is our office that features a full sized sleeper sofa that will accommodate two guests, It also has a closing door for privacy.

-The Bunk Room has 5 platform style bunk beds that are full sized. Perfect for kids!
-Bedroom 3 is located off the bunk room with a queen sized bed and a full bathroom with a walk- in shower. (Please note this is the only bathroom upstairs)

-The Patio is equipped with furniture, corn hole boards, and a wood burning fireplace. Please use responsibly.

- "Great place!" - "We were looking for a larger home to accommodate 6 adults and 3 children with room to spread out and yet enjoy each other’s company. This home did not disappoint. Really nice layout with a large “living_kitchen” room all rolled into one making it easy to watch the kids and go about the business of feeding everyone. Cliff tops is a peaceful location with homes on 5 acre + lots where you can see your neighbor in the distance and still feel like you are “in the woods”. We did not get to enjoy the lake given the weather but did play a bit of pickleball. Would be fun to return in the summertime as it would be a totally different experience. Bunkhouse setup was nice for accommodating the kids but that area does not have its own bathroom. The immediately adjoining bedroom does have its own bedroom making the second floor ideal for a mom/dad/kids arrangement. The “office” has a pull out which we did not test. My older “Kids” are not big on pullouts and that room would be made more functional with a simple double or even a single bed with a good mattress. Lastly, the indoor fireplace has not been completed and would be a great additional to the main “living_kitchen” room. All in all, great house, great layout and lot’s of room to enjoy. The grandkids have already asked if we can return to the Mountain House. Good chance we will :)"

Crooked Nook is a spacious apartment located in lower level of beautiful new mountain home on heavily wooded scenic lot. The Nook features a private entrance and private outdoor balcony with dining and seating areas. The sunset view from the balcony is amazing.

Inside, there is an extra comfy brand new queen size bed and also a sofa that folds out to double size bed. The fully furnished kitchen boasts a full-size refrigerator, microwave, air fryer/toaster oven, 2 burner hot plate, and full-size coffee maker. The indoor dining area seats up to 4 people The desk provides a space for working. For those longer stays, a washer and dryer are in the unit.

Host provides coffee, tea, breakfast items, snacks, and basic cooking supplies.

Option for rental of additional bedroom, bath, and family room. Message host for information.

Chattanooga is 45 minutes away for all the attractions it has to offer.

Welcome to our custom built home on the Cumberland Plateau near Sewanee. This house has been loved by all who visit. The forest setting and the many uniques spaces in the house make it an unforgettable accommodation.

Michael shares the property, downstairs on the garden level, unobtrusively. So a host is readily available if you need something.

This is a wonderful and quirky place in the woods. Lots of windows looking out to trees, water and sky. Two levels with open architecture for commons spaces. Great kitchen with new appliances. Soaking tub in one of the bathrooms. Wrap around deck with 600 square feet of outdoor living. Wood stove for cozy winter nights. Central heat and air too. We welcome dogs, and we request that you register your pet as a guest.

We rent the whole house except for the subterranean level and travel trailer. This is where we stay when guests are here. Guest self check in through the front door.

Return Guest House is in the woods, so it is smart to bring insect repellent. There is lots of wildlife that live on the property and fish, frogs and snakes at the lake. We have had no unpleasant incidents with our wild neighbors. Enjoy!

Brand new, fully furnished, bluff view cottage located in Cooley's Rift development in Monteagle Tennessee. The location is 2 miles from The University of the South in Sewanee TN.
2 Bedrooms and loft that sleeps 6 people. Very accommodating for a weekend of university activities or for quiet mountain getaway. Fall foliage will be beautiful on our property. Bluff views are also amazing and the covered porch allows for peaceful relaxation.

This is a fully equipped mountain bluff cottage. It is situated in the wooded quietness of a natural setting. All bed and bath linens provided. Complete with kitchen appliances and utensils.
