Neighbors in hummingbird treehouse were really loud with there music. I think people need to realize you seem to be deep in woods but you still have neighbors even tho you can’t see them!. And a snake kept me from getting in the car to leave. But then again. We were in the woods! Gotta love all parts of nature. He finally moved on snd so did we!"

Welcome to the Mountain Thyme Cabin located in peaceful and serene Monteagle, Tennessee!
From the moment you approach the drive, let the rest and relaxation begin. Nestled in the middle of the woods adjacent to a private, stocked pond, the outdoors spaces will enchant you before even stepping inside. Once you break the spell, the inside will not disappoint. Mountain Thyme is tastefully furnished in well-coordinated and functional pieces, all professionally chosen to enhance your vacation experience.
Mountain Thyme comfortably sleeps up to 8 guests (6 adults max) in 2 bedrooms plus a sleeping loft with bunks (no uncomfortable pull out sofa’s here). The oversized master bedroom is graced by a king-sized, Tempur-pedic mattress and premium linens. The bathroom has a shower, separate tub and makeup area. The guest bedroom downstairs features a queen bed, has dual closets and private access to the outdoors. Both bedrooms have flat screen TVs. There is an additional full bathroom on the main floor, which houses the laundry closet complete with a full-size washer and dryer.
The amazing loft has a total of 4 bunk beds and is the perfect retreat for kids (or those young at heart). It features a train table & various toys as well as an old school tabletop arcade game to keep everyone entertained for hours. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare a wonderful family meal which can be enjoyed at the farmhouse style dining room table with room to seat everyone. As the evening winds down, the cozy and inviting living room is the perfect spot to relax. Enjoy the large flat screen TV with full cable and you can even access your Netflix, Hulu, or Pandora accounts on the Smart-Enabled BluRay DVD player. And yes, this cabin does have free WI-FI and your cell-phone should work just fine.
Mountain Thyme’s outdoors spaces truly are what make this cabin special. The screened-in porch, located just off the living room, seamlessly blends the indoors and out. Here you can enjoy swinging away those cool fall nights or morning coffee on a warm spring day. The upper porch is a breathtaking vantage point to enjoy the sights and sounds on the pond while lazily relaxing away the day. It’s the perfect spot to curl up with a good book in one of the uber-cozy chairs and let yourself be transported to a more relaxing pace of life.
The rear covered porch is as great spot to spy on the abundant wildlife in the woods such as deer, squirrels, raccoons, owls and a multitude of beautiful birds. Or just enjoy the peaceful sounds of rain on the metal roof. Even the side of the house has a covered space that you will appreciate when unloading the car should the weather be inclement.
The inviting fire pit features seating for everyone with adirondack chairs and bench seating is the perfect spot to share campfire stories or just become mesmerized by the dancing flames. Don’t worry about bringing wood, we’ve got that covered too. At some point, you’ll want to make a visit down to our dock on the pond, where a paddle boat awaits your voyage around the pond. Don’t forget to take a moment to feed the catfish (we have food, but they will eat most bread products). Once they have gained your trust, they may even let the adventurous pet them. There are plenty of woods to explore and special little spots to hide out and steal a moment of tranquility.
The best part of Mountain Thyme cabin is that we don’t want you to sweat the small stuff. We want your stay to be as relaxing, comfortable, and as convenient as possible. We include the the little things you typically don’t find in a cabin rental but are appreciated by our guests. Things like dish soap, laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, salt & pepper, spices, batteries & more. This is our family cabin and we keep it ready to use, so enjoy the convenience of a truly ready-to-rent cabin. The kitchen is fully equipped with mixing bowls, pots, pans, utensils, griddle, blender, waffle maker and everything else you might need to prepare a perfect cabin meal. Also be sure to check the storage room off the back deck where you can find things like life preservers, fire starters, outdoor games like Bocce Ball and other stuff. And if the mood for gardening strikes you, there are tools for that, so have at it!
There are little surprises everywhere so feel free to enjoy everything available to you. Sometimes we will leave you stuff to make s’mores, a bottle of champagne or a 6-pack of beer. Who knows what you will find? We also have a variety of board games perfect for family nights around the table. The arcade game located in the loft features 50 of your favorite classics like Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, DigDug, Frogger & more—and of course it’s free play so no quarters necessary. Our goal is for you to have a wonderful stay and return for years to come. We have tried to think of any and everything you might want during your visit to Mountain Thyme Cabin.
The cabin is easily accessible on good, flat roads just a couple minutes off the Monteagle exits. It is conveniently located less that 1 ½ hours drive from Nashville or Knoxville, 2 Hours from Atlanta and only 45 minutes from Chattanooga. Our cabin is just a few short minutes from the University of the South at Sewanee, St Andrews School, The Assembly Grounds and more. The area is known for its natural beauty, with soaring bluffs, creeks, waterfalls, rock outcroppings and tons of hiking trails to discover these wonderful spots. And if you are looking for nightlife, there a surprising number local dining establishments that are sure to impress. The town of Monteagle has all of the stores you may need plus a variety of shops and artisan markets to peruse. Please note though, this is not like Pigeon Forge. Prepare to relax and enjoy time with your friends and family, the outdoors, nature and just a slower pace of life away from the hustle and bustle.
We look forward to sharing our wonderful vacation home with you in the near future!
Please note: We have exterior cameras installed to monitor the home between guest stays and to confirm that guests have checked in or checked out. If you have any questions - just let us know!
- "We had a very relaxing stay after a very long drive. The kids loved fishing in the pond. The beds were super comfortable." - "Great stay. Convenient area, and good food close by. Would recommend." - "Very quite and relaxing" - "Comfortable cabin. Convenient to The Caverns. Enjoyed the outdoor spaces." - "Our family, a son, father to our granddaughter, granddaughter and the grandparent, the husband and I looked for a change of scenery for a painful birthday anniversary. Right away the 6 yo checked to see if her bunk bed room looked like the pictures, it did!! The full train set table and video game console just upped her excitement exponentially. Her dad had the ample master up on the second floor and we moved comfortably into the downstairs queen room and bath right off the kitchen. Decked out for Christmas made this home away from home very cozy. I read the stories of the Swanee angels and the Monteagle Assembly to my granddaughter and it was a great way to familiarize ourselves with the area. We had a chance to hike the fiery gizzard and explore the Assembly lookout which were right up our alley of activities we were hoping for. Overall, we loved Mountain thyme Cabin and will certainly consider coming back again."

It was very clean, updated, and had all the small details covered that many rentals overlook. Check in/out was a breeze. Only wish we could have stayed longer. " - "We dropped our son off at Sewanee and stayed at the Chalet for the second time. We love this place. It’s very convenient, it has everything you need and the hosts are very accommodating. - "We so enjoyed our stay at Proctor's Haven. The expansive property, which includes a lovely view and a small lake, provides quiet and natural beauty in abundance. Indoors, the owners have stocked the kitchen with everything one might need, as well as games for family enjoyment. The screened porch was my personal favorite place to play guitar and read. Highly recommend!" - "It was great! First class cabin and furnishings - very comfortable and quiet. Lots of unspoiled nature to enjoy. We saw many deer, turkey, assorted, colorful birds that I had never seen, and we caught several largemouth bass in the lake. The view out back of the mountains and valley were wonderful too! I liked the fact that it was new and that it had a nice TV with plenty of channels and a new, emergency stand-by generator, just in case. We will be back!"

- "This property was truly amazing! So peaceful and relaxing. We spent our days with warm fire in the wood stove and reading books. The kitchen has everything you need for meals. There is no oven but the grill temperature is consistent enough to bake in it. Our nights were spent either in the hot tub or watching Christmas classics on the smart tv. If you are bringing you own wood, make sure you cut it down to 8-10 inch logs or bring an ax and hand saw to trim the wood down for the wood stove since it’s smaller. Water pressure and hot water was great! The mini fridge is perfect for a 2-3 day stay. Make sure any drinks you wants are already chilled and bring your own ice in a cooler. I found the cooler to be easiest since there is not an ice machine. There’s plenty of stores close by for anything you may need. We will be staying again!"

"I've stayed at 100+ Airbnbs all over the world. And Rachael and Steph's place is my favorite. If two sisters running an Airbnb wasn't enough of a fun origin story, who they were throughout the process and how thoughtful, conscientiousness, and articulate they were made this a remarkable experience." -Recent 5 Star Review

FIRST TIME STAYING IN A SHIPPING CONTAINER HOME?
We get tons of questions - Many asking, "Is this a 'normal' home?" - The answer is, yes! The outside looks extremely unique, but once you're inside, you'll forget you're in a shipping container because of the comfortable design and thoughtful touches throughout the home. Split units keep our home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Please note, all of the bedrooms are single containers and therefore, are narrow. The photos show this as the containers are the width of queen/king size beds. Additionally, this is still a cabin in the woods! It is an upscale cabin, yet imperfect. If you are looking for hotel quality perfection, please consider booking elsewhere.

WINTER BOOKINGS:
Our container home is heated and cooled with split units. However, there are many outdoor spaces including the forest view room that will be the temperature of the outdoors. If not using the patios during a cold winter stay would ruin your time here, please consider booking elsewhere. Additionally, in Tennessee, pipes are traditionally under the home not fully protected from the elements and this is true with our as well. If temperatures are consistently below freezing during your trip, we will ask that you drip the faucets to prevent freezing pipes. This will likely only apply to select December, January and February bookings.
SAFETY:
We have 4 Ring security cameras on property:
1. Front door of the main home deck facing the driveway/street
2. Side of the main home facing the driveway
3. Back deck of the main home facing the North side of the property
4. Backyard facing the back door of the Canopy Container
All cameras are motion activated, are on the exterior of the home & in plain sight of the guest.
Booking party will be asked to sign a waiver/home agreement as we have many unique features on our property. This is required by our insurance.
DINING:
Living room 1 in the main home is the largest gathering area and can fit ~20 people. However, we do NOT have a formal indoor dining table. There is a large kitchen island with seating, 2 outdoor tables that seat 6-8 and a folding table.
EVENTS
As stated in our house rules, loud noise outdoors in the evenings/over night is now allowed. If you plan to throw a party, please do not book. This home feels VERY private, but noise carries. There will be a $500 fine for any noise complaints from neighbors.
CONNECTIVITY:
We have great wifi & okay phone service. Hour long Zooms are no problem! Depending on your provider, phone service may be limited, but we have 3 separate routers at our home to ensure that everyone is able to 'connect' while they are disconnecting. ; )
CRITTERS:
We have regular pest control for a variety of critters & regularly treat for snakes. However, you might see them anyway as we are on 5 acres of wooded forest. We do our best to prevent it, but sometimes bugs find their way inside. If this will ruin your stay, you might consider booking elsewhere.
CANCELLATIONS:
Holding our home 'just in case' hurts us as small business owners and home owners as this blocks our calendar, making it harder to rebook those days. Please ensure that all members of your party have fully confirmed these dates prior to booking.
We cannot provide any refunds for weather unless there is a government issued evacuation. Please protect yourself by purchasing travel insurance. We will infrequently experience winter weather and snow. While we are not in a true mountainous area, there are steep hills in parts of our town. Please plan accordingly. When booking our home using certain sites that use a payment processor, we incur fees that cannot be recouped if you cancel. We cannot refund any credit card processing fees.

We watched football games in style! Owners extremely friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere! Thank you for building something so cool!" - "This property is so awesome! Not only is it beautiful and aesthetically pleasing, it was equipped with everything we could possibly need. Rachel and Steph really thought of everything, and were so helpful and communicative. Spent the weekend here with friends, cooked tasty meals, enjoyed the beautiful view of trees from our bedroom, relaxed in the sauna, hot tub and pool. The only complaint I have is that we didn’t book a longer stay. 🙂 Definitely will be rebooking this home in the future."

Clifftops cabin close to the front gate. Nearby lake, bluff view, waterfalls, hiking. Sewanee University 3-4 miles away. Chattanooga-30-45 min, Nashville-90 min. 2 bedrooms, one of which is a loft.
Important: the stairs leading to the loft are very steep so it’s probably not the best option for young children or the elderly.
During the winter months from Christmas to March, the washer/dryer will be unavailable due to freezing weather.
Note: all of the work you see done to renovate the cabin I have done by hand over the past 5 years.
- "My family and I had an outstanding weekend getaway at this wonderful cabin! The amenities are first class all the way around and our stay was extremely enjoyable. This host is top notch and was extremely easy to communicate with about a very minor issue we had where I accidentaly broke a piece of the decor. I would not hesitate to stay at this cabin again if we ever have another opportunity to come back to this part of TN. Highly recommended property and host. Absolutely perfect stay! Thanks so much!"

The views are spectacular, the accommodations are cozy and comfortable, and the property is beautiful. The home is charming and thoughtfully put together—it certainly doesn’t feel like a rental (in the best ways!), but rather feels as if you’re visiting a really special family property. - "I’ll start with the good. This was a small perfectly cozy cabin with a beautiful Mountain View. Had all the amenities you need in the kitchen. The hot tub was so nice to sit in at night and look at the stars. The owner was very responsive to us during our stay. Check in and out was super simple. Now for the negatives. The listing seems to be intentionally misleading in the pictures. This cabin is not isolated, it is the guest house adjacent to a large house. Lucky for us, there was nobody in the large house, otherwise we would have felt a little uncomfortable trying to enjoy the outdoor space. (If you’re like us and prefer privacy). The fireplace in the bedroom is not usable and the gas log in the living room did not work for us. (The owner was very apologetic and tried her best to help us from afar but we weren’t able to get it working. I’m sure she’ll have it fixed soon). There are bugs. A ton of lady bugs in the windows so the whole place smelled like lady bugs and the ants were terrible. We had a literal crumb of toast on the counter from breakfast and came back to a ton of ants on the counter. I understand these things are hard to control when a place is not occupied consistently, but this is what was there.Overall I would still recommend this to anybody looking for a nice getaway without kids. There are plenty of nearby beautiful mild to moderate intensity walking trails and hikes that include beautiful scenery such as waterfalls and Mountain View’s. "
